The Timex takes it for me because of the Indiglo feature. The one thing I always lamented in the 106 was that Casio removed the "Illumuninator" LED lights found in my beloved MDV102. This Timex, though I'm not a fan of skeletonized hands, will be a superior night read.

I have an Expedition Scout 43 with a leather band. I like the simplicity of the dial, and the indiglo is always a welcome addition. The second had is sloppy and it’s loud! I can hear it in a quiet room sitting across over on a dresser. I got it in 2015 and it’s still running on the original battery. I have about twenty $100 or cheaper Casios, Timexes and G Shocks that I cycle through, so not using the indiglo very often extends battery life. I like both. I find it interesting that you didn't mention the overall matte appearance of the Timex including the bezel insert vs. the Duro which has a polished case, a glossy dial and markers too and therefore has a completely different visual "feel" to it. I like variety and tend to use the Timex for bike riding and the Duro for the pool and hot tub but especially appreciate the matte look of the Timex every time I wear it because it is different from most other watches I have and gives it a more casual yet purposeful look (as opposed to a more jewelry-like appearance) which I enjoy.

Hi, Jody! Nice comparison video, both watches in my collection for a change! I'll start out saying I favor the Duro, not least because of the price point, along with the plusses you mentioned. On the Timex, I've found the skeletonized hands adequate in daylight, but they do seem to disappear a bit when using the Indiglo function...maybe that's just my eyes. The bezel has a noticeable bounce to it, doesn't feel as solid as I'd like, and the rotation has some play as well; possibly it was manufactured on a Monday! The strap, no argument that's it's a good one, although I have it on a leather strap at the moment. I hadn't thought about it before but I agree that it looks as much like a field watch as it does a diver, which is more than fine with me. Water resistance is not much of an issue, considering I'd never use it as a dive watch anyway. All in all, it's like a lightweight frying pan versus a cast-iron skillet...both are useful, but that cast-iron goes on forever. Thanks for another great video!

One big plus for the Duro is that it has a stainless steel case where the Timex doesn’t. I wouldn’t expect the Timex to delaminate like the Easy Readers I wore in the 1990s did (razor sharp edges, anyone?), but the watch may not be as durable in the long run. I wore my Easy Readers daily for about 2 years before the chrome plating started to peel, but that just meant I never had to open a case to change the battery.

Except that the Glycine is Swiss Made, Automatic, has double the WR and is, at a minimum, about 3x the cost. That’s not a knock against the Glycine, it is still an amazing value for the money watch (I have one and I love it), but it’s in a very different class than the Timex.

Pretty sure those hands are like that to make it marginally easier to read with Indiglow. Another watch with backlight I own also has skeleton hands. Tbh the whole package is just a very solid field/sports watch, not a diver.
Btw. if anyone wants a Chinese-homage alternative to the Duro I'd recommend the Addiesdive "Quarzmariner", 200m with screw down crown, Miyota 2115 and fully lumed ceramic bezel.

No, it's obviously a homage to the Submariner. It's just an alternative to the Duro because it has similar specs and price and is also a diver.

That's a fun comparison! I honestly can't say which of these two I prefer, but I'm tempted to say the Timex. The WR is moot for me since I wouldn't be diving with either of these and 100m is plenty for day to day or any situation I can think of where I would realistically fight myself both wet and wearing a watch.

It’s not going to be the best watch I’ve bought for under $100, but I do like the strap, and the Indi-glo feature. I bought a Bulova for $118, demo sale, and I bought a quartz chronometer with sapphire glass, 500 meter water resistance on a H-link bracelet for $80 on a first release deal. It’s still not a bad looking watch for the money, but it’s not a Nautis! Great review as always Jody!!!

I’ve had not great results in the past from swimming with a 100m Timex Expedition. That said, this had been on my short list in the past, blue/yellow dive dial, but 43mm and “desk diver” was a dealbreaker.

Good review of this watch. I have been really impressed with what Timex is doing with their recent releases; hand-wind, automatic and even solar. Recently, I find myself looking at Timex watches quite frequently. I have a number of new TImex watches; a couple of their solar Expedition watches, one Ranger and one Gallatin, a hand-wind Marlin and an automatic Marlin, and now I am considering one of the new Waterbury automatics. Not sure about this one; I would probably prefer the 41mm automatic Navi model, even though it is substantially more expensive.

One thing that I’ve noticed on my timex expedition that I note is similar on this timex is that the second hand seems to vibrate as it settles on each click. I can deal with 60 click quartz second hand movements but the vibrations look cheap. My various casios do not do this. Once again, Casio seems to have figured some fundamental detail out that others haven’t.

Great job as always, Jody. The Timex is a curious hybrid of both field and dive-style watch but somehow comes across as way too busy and because of this doesn’t appear to possess a character of its own. I really like the band and would slap one on my black Casio Duro in a New York minute but alas, it’s only 20mm not 22mm. Hmmm....methinks Timex would like to keep the band to itself. Always liked the Indiglo feature and the batteries in Timex seem to run forever but for me, price point considered, I’d have to go with the Duro. However, in all fairness, Timex may do well with this model as the “new” Casio Duro has virtually no changes except the unfortunate loss of the marlin. I’m not sure if the addition of a couple bezel changes is enough to make people plunk down money for the new Duro so maybe the new Timex may sell decently. Then again, the Duro has a huge and loyal fan base (myself included) that might just say, “ Oh, what the hell!” and go out and buy all three. LOL!

A nice comparison, Jody! The Timex is just an SCD, a Superlative-Combat-Diver! 😁 I love the splashes of color. Though I don´t think that it beats the Duro, I ordered it. The falling price at the moment stops at 27 Euro! That´s what I call a great value!!
