He has a great point the one near me is run by a really cool guy he’s around half off of what the parts store is hell he has stuff that you can’t even get at a dealer anymore like trim or od stuff. Hell I thought about going and getting a few of these parts and selling them on eBay
Thanks for calling out people that DESTROY parts to get to other parts. It breaks my heart to see good solid parts destroyed when I was looking for that part.
No big deal. Sometimes you have to break something to learn how to do it correctly. I do it myself. But many just destroy stuff because they forgot a tool or are in a hurry.
Robert DIY I totally agree with you man I have the same problem here in Upstate New York and I don't understand why they have to smash windows and they have to destroy things everything you say is exactly what I agree and it fires me up!
Robert DIY no thank you for addressing these important do's and don'ts we've all been saying but couldn't put it in a simplified and straightforward way. I have subscribed.
NorthernChev my buddy owns a bicycle shop. Near the mechanic's area, he has a sign: Don't ask to borrow my tools & I won't ask to borrow your girlfriend. : P
"10 dollars bucks"/"10 bucks bucks," Berserker? Huh? But yeah. Well, I wouldn't likely have $10 extra to do that (after all, I did go to the junk yard for a specfic reason or for a purpose, right?), but I have been allowed by others to borrow tools before. I do try to bring my own tools but sometimes a screw-up does happen.
Amen. I don't understand how some people can do these things. I take the extra time to put parts I've removed (but dont want) someplace nice and obvious in the vehicle. Occasionally I'll come across a part that someone else has thoughtfully left intact and nicely put aside. Such a treat on the rare occasion you find this.
AKJeeper right I needed the crank so I put the rest of the engine in the truck and I always check inside the car and In the truck because that's where I put the parts I don't need
One time I saw two guys walking in the junkyard with a big toolbox. They pulled all kinds of electric parts of a Saab 9-5. When they walked to the exit (and passed the cashier) they claimed they could not find the parts they were looking for. I told them if they perhaps forgot about the many parts in their toolbox. If looks could kill... I would not be around anymore.
I accidently dropped my t25 tip inside a fender and could not retrieve it. I walked around asking if I could borrow someone's to take the last screw out that held my part in. I was so embarrassed and ashamed... Sorry fellow DIY'ers.
There's a 10 mil socket in a door I could not retrieve once. They should sell them by the dozen. I believe ten mil sockets and wrenches are cursed to always be lost first.
I think I have spent half my life in junk yards always looking for parts to restore older cars, its a fun hobby. I dont think people know not to trash out the yard, Had a friend go with me and right off the bat he started just throwing parts everywhere , I said what are you doing, he just looked at me , Thought thats what you do in a junk yard. I had to set him down and explain , I said look there are rules to Golf, and there are rules to parts getting in yards. He now understands. This was a video that needed to be made. Thanks Robert
Charles Miller it's called etiquette golf etiquette bowling etiquette junkyard etiquette everything has its own etiquette! unfortunately I don't really think there is a RUclips etiquette....troll life
The way I look at it is....When you get together with a bunch of friends, there is always a wise ass among them, heck that could be me, who knows. You Tube is no different. People let things get to them . People like to rib each other , its a human thing. Im Sure we have been doing it since caveman days. Insert caveman rib here ( ).
Just discovered salvage yards and it never crossed my mind to be destructive....but then, we women have etiquette and politeness forced down our throats from birth! 😁😁 Glad I didn't break any of the rules! The yard is such a fun place!
BigKleib34:. My thoughts exactly,I can't agree more. I for one just hate it when people have poor or bad housekeeping practices. Mr Robert, you're absolutely correct about this. Amen brother!
I’m sure this video was meant for the newbies. I’ve worked in a salvage yard in southeast Wisconsin for years and everything this man said is a real battle for us everyday! A simple task made impossible by someone that has no idea what to do in a yard. Plain and simple. Thank you for the video because it’s one of the very few that exist on RUclips. My job is dangerous and can be very tough especially in the winter, and just one person that watches this video and learned something has made this guys video worth while. Thanks again for it and happy junkin fellas!!
These people you described are the main reason yards are becoming less pick part friendly. A lot of junkyards in Texas are picking your parts for you after you ask to choose the best part from the yard.
Dime Fever So true the yards are fed up with people coming in and destroying $50-$100 worth of parts trying to get their $10 part.It sounds strange today but people(guys) used to be careful when they were removing something and were respectful of what they left behind.
It makes a funny sound, so people find someone with tools, borrow one, use it to smash the window (With the door open so the glass goes into the walkway between cars, so if you need to lay down to get stuff from under the car, there's glass everywhere), and then wipe the tool off all over the interior so they can give it back without any glass remnants back to the original owner.
I went to the scrap yard for the first time, brought my own tools and all ... and from only being there once i can say i am 100% in agreement with these top 5 !!!
chris hazen actually you should go to the junkyard because why I got an amazing story for you about my Ford F-150 if you want to know give me a text back
chris hazen Haha when I was a little younger I used to frequent them a lot. When they ask what you’re looking for, don’t just say I’m here to look around I’ll know it when I see it, haha they didn’t wanna let me in. The guy said “you need a jack for an 88 Sentra right? Wink wink, ok go ahead. “
"Now i gotta pick glass outta my rear end for three days!" LMBO Robert, you had me laughing and fuming mad all in one video. You nailed every one of my pet peeves of pulling parts at the salvage yard! Couldn't have said any of it better myself!
I will admit one time I had to shit REALLY BAD and I was at the back of a HUGE yard, there was a Ford Windstar with tinted windows, I went in the back and took a record shit wiped with the carpet and covered it with a door panel. I've always wondered if someone needed that panel and got a surprise instead.
When you gotta go there isn't really a place to go on those yards. One comment on this page says "Don't stick Penis in anything" so that means you can't unzip and lean against an open gas tank and drain your lizard. To the rest of the world it just looks like you are leaning against the car. Smile and wave at people as they walk by? Yeah, can't do that.
I've experienced the glass problem first hand. I was pulling a switch for my mustangs headlight and the windshield was shattered. Adds a really unnecessary hazard while pulling interior parts
Domenic takes a lot of force to shatter a windshield. there are multiple layers to prevent it from shattering into pieces so if it was shattered the person who did it lightly hit it multiple times.
My friend was trying to get a steering wheel off a car in a junk yard and the windshield was shattered and his hand slipped and he had to go get stitches on his finger.
I thought I seen it all in the junkyard until I found human turds left inside several big suburbans and vans. Dirty hogs are too lazy to walk out to the jiffy johns lined up out in front of the huge you pull its. This could spread all kinds of nasty disease...
Yes. Thank you. I went to one looking for a console for my freestyle. They had on with the same color interior and the console looked like someone took a sledgehammer to it. There was no damage to the vehicle indicating it got involved in an accident. I was so mad. I went to 5 other salvage yards and finally found my part.
Oh they'll still break stuff they don't care, they aren't paying for the stuff they break...bet they would take better care if they had to pay for damages they cause.
I have been going to junk yards for 45 years and I've seen it all these junk yards are organized people don't know how good they got it so listen to this man he is so right and thank you for posting.
I love guys that don't bring their own tools. They normally pay me to pull their parts. My mother in law says only i could go to the junkyard with $40 for my part and come out with my part my $40 and $200 richer.
I love this video and agree with everything he says 100%. I would also like to add a few things of my own that pisses me off in the salvage yards. number one why do you have to leave the hood of all the vehicles that contain good engines up?? You know they don't have somebody out there to drop the hoods on all those wrecked cars maybe I don't want an engine that's been sitting in the salvage yard for 6 months getting rained on and snow dog. why is it so hard to open the hood see if it's got the engine you need or the part you need and if it don't shut the hood down. in addition why do people feel the need to remove everything from an engine to get to other parts and not put those parts back on the engine if I need to get a camshaft out of an overhead cam engine I have to pull the valve cover but I will put the valve cover back on the head when I'm done so that water and crap does not get down into that engine maybe the rest of the engine is good the head is good if I leave it open to the environment it may not be good for very much longer. if you come to a salvage yard to buy something like an oil cap or an oil filler tube or something like that plug up that damn hole. Try to keep the weather and contamination out of an otherwise good engine. if you pull a seat or a dash out of a vehicle and realize it is the wrong one put it back in the vehicle loose don't just leave it outside I might need that seat in 2 or 3 months. if you pull a part from a car in order to get another part near it put the original part back where it goes or at least back with the original car where it can be found. Some people just do not have any consideration for anybody else that might need to come to that salvage yard in the near future I on the other hand try to be considerate. I wonder where this Feller film this video at what's Salvage and what state
I actually pulled a fuel pump for practice and seen that it was less than a year old. So I left it on the tank in the trunk and wrote next to it, new pump. It tested good.
This video proves common sense is no longer common... Great video and I have been in exactly the same situation many times... Bring Your Own dam tools. Mine cost me plenty (I only have quality tools and took years to accumulate) and I'm not letting you touch them!!!
Good video! You might add stealing car parts. Years ago, a former junkyard employee told me his beef re: junkyard thieves. I could tell that it took a toll on him. It helps explain why junkyard operators are sometimes gruff in dealing with the public.
😬 We usually choose the business we work in. I was focusing on the top things that people do there that they may think is fair game. Stealing, harming others, defecating in cars, etc are things that show extreme character flaws that I couldn't begin to deal with. 🤦🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
Erwin Schrödinger i make sure to respect the car i take the part from. The car is their because of a reckless driver. I pay my respects and thank the car for still aiding humanity even after its death
I've got a massive LKQ near me, and I love an opportunity to find a part for cheap down there. The unspoken rule there is if you didn't bring tools, too bad. Be more prepared next time. I always take crescent wrench in case I don't have the right socket
I only break things when they are already broken like if a dash pice is broken I don't have a problem tearing it up to get it out of my way but if it's still intact I will remove it the proper way
I only wish we had a nice junkyard like that one. The couple that's left in my area are nothing like that. In ours the weeds are taller than the cars, and you better "beat the brush" or your getting snakebit. You cannot walk between the cars due to the parts hanging off in pieces and you will get sliced and diced. Glass breakage? Good luck finding an intact window. All of that, and now someone like me cannot even walk in. I'm escorted in and they pull the piece. Hell that's the reason I go in the first place, I really enjoyed walking thru and looking for and removing what I needed. Sadly a few dumbasses ruins it for everybody else.
True! For some reason when I see the poor ole Volvos in the junkyard I will see many that have (only) the spark plugs removed and the hood open. Now the motor is full off water because some dude wanted to remove old spark plugs? But! the car next to it is sealed up and the car on the other side is sealed up. I almost thought there was a guy out there doing it deliberately. I think some guys hate these cars and destroy them on purpose...because they are some of the best cars ever made. I caught one tweaker out there taking nothing but oil caps and dip sticks off of the 850's. I stopped him and asked why are you taking the oil caps off. He said it was to sell them online? No that is lie. It is so next time it rains it will flood the motor with rain water. People can be very destructive...but thats just their selfish childish wicked heart condition. Grow up and start to think about others at the junkyard, please and thank you.
Lauren J. actually the fact he identifies color as different at all is in its own way racist but most everyone has done it at least once during their life. My belief is that you need to actively remember we are all human, we all have needs, we all fail, we all succeed, we all live and die, and lastly we all bleed red. The presence or lack of color should not define people. Their achievements are the only logical basis of judgement on a persons value.
Issue is their are many people who go to junk yards and scrap yards for parts and things to sell online and the easy things to sell and get money on are caps and lights and dipsticks as people easily break or lose these and they sell quick and are light so cheap shipping. The sellers have NO IDEA about how a vehicle works even if they take off the cylinder heads they don't seem to actually understand water getting in there is an issues and that you know rain falls from the sky and then condensation... many are plain stupid like they don't even realize common sense of cars ... or any motor I worked at mech shops and rental places as well as tool rentals from small chainsaw to big equipment and I am astonished by how ... basic people are when they may even work daily around such things. Maybe it is because people have gotten use to all the disposable and built for obsolete things
Nicky back in the late 90's I helped a friend get parts for a ex public transport bus he was preserving. We are Irish so it was a scrapyard in the north of this country. Parts were being stolen, pepole were going into the yard just to take photos of the derelict buses without asking permission climbing over fences and interfering with the scrapmen at work . In the end the yard owner barred anyone from going into the yard. What we had to do is hand over a list of what we wanted and a yard worker would get it. This increased the price of the parts and prevented us from seeing what was the best part to get. The point of this comment is all races have thier dickheads.. Not fair to single out just one.
Fcutdlady -- I know all races do this but I didn't say anything about race... I was just talking about people in general even people who work around these engines all the time. I know there are punctuation missing (looks like I commented from my phone. But I wasn't talking about races at all.
Boy that's the truth!!!! I always come home with glass in some rather painful spots, they need to levy fines or call the law for property destruction etc. People these Days make it hard for us to just to save some cash by using parts from the bone yard... Its very sad!!!!! Great video well done !!!!!!! Maybe some of these idiots will get the message!!!!!!! keep up the great. Work !!!!!!!!!
Great video. A few comments. I've loaned out tools in the past and never saw the tools again. I don't think the borrowers were trying to steal tools from me. I just think they forgot. Now, when I loan out a tool, I ask for their driver's license to hold while they're using it. Haven't lost a tool yet. I once found a group of guys walking through the yard breaking glass. I told the manager who followed them until they did it again. When they came to the cash register to purchase the parts they had pulled, the manager refused to sell them to them and told them to never come back to the yard again. One comment about spoiling the inside of a car. When the yard men clean up the yard, they frequently shovel the mess into the nearest car, ruining the interior. Nothing I can do about that.
Have you ever thought about starting up a company that will go to the junk yard and get the part needed for someone else? Maybe they are disabled like myself and need a steering knuckle for a 2002 Suzuki XL7 and either physically can't or just don't want to get dirty and have a mechanic waiting to install said part. If you come from a big city area I am damn sure you could maintain a crew of at least a dozen workers year round. I se BIG $$$$$$$
I spend a lot of time in the junk yard and completely agree. When I work on a car I try to remove just what I need. I try to keep the area around the car clean sometimes its never ending.
My husband and I go to the pull a part in Knoxville at least 1 time a month. With 6 cars in our family one is always braking down lol. We always take what we need and then some. One day our 10mm deep well cracked. We asked the gentlemen the next car over if he had one we could borrow. After a lengthy cursing at us for not bringing what we need (even after I explained we did but it broke) I apologized and moved on. A man walking by heard the gentleman curse me out and told heim he was a jackass for cursing a woman for asking a question. I explained to the no e gentlemen no need to take up for me I was used to men who were jackasses. That it was alright I understand why they curse at me and that's because their threatened that a woman can fix something better than them. The man who was trying to defend me. Just laughed and said you know I beleive your right what tool did you need to borrow. I told him and he walked back with me to where I left my husband working. We were laughing and told my husband what had happened. We orrowed this nice man's socket got our part and left. I understand the aggregation on people bugging you while your working. But, fellas if we cannot take 5 minutes from our busy lives to help someone who may need it. Then what is the point? I help anyone I can whenever I can. I will continue fixing my own vehicles as long as I'm alive. I feel a great joy on fixing stuff with my own hands. That is something I have passed to my daughter and my son! Good day
I'm with you on loaning tools; After trying to raid my toolbox a mechanic demanded to know where my drill was because he needed it. "It's in my hand, dumbass. I'm using it." To be honest, I can understand some things getting a bit buggered up; let's face it we aren't all born mechanics and engineers. Mess around a scrap yard will be a lesson in doing things right, using proper PPE and avoiding a tetanus shot that costs more than the part you were shopping for.
Tetanus is high in this location. I got a shot as soon as I moved there. I really don't have a problem with things getting broken here and there, do it myself from time to time, but really, some people are just destructive.
Good work Robert. I work there and i see many people upset because people are destroying parts for a bolt or something and we loose customers. Come on guys be considerate
Yeah, huh? Thanks for completing your thought now. Hey, my first reply here on your thread seems to have gotten hidden. Will you look for it there under "hidden replies" or something like that and click the button that unhides it?
Common courtesy is not so common these days, just as common sense especially is not so common!lol Though, I've seen people take parts & leave them somewhere else to grab later because they didn't have enough money to get all the parts they wanted, so they'd "hide" them where they can get them next time, hoping it'll still be there. I hate it when all the bolts are stripped because someone didn't use penetrating oil to try to loosen them first. I needed a specific bolt that goes into the proportional brake line out to the front passenger side wheel, & the only one there was already stripped smooth. What a bummer. Tip: bring penetrating oil to use before wrenching! I thought that would be in the common sense section, but I guess not!lol
Robert DIY, I applaud this great video. This is just common, logical, tasteful information that needs to be shared. It is a shame that others are not respectful nor care about the next person that needs to come thru to find parts. It sad that this even had to be said, however, the fact that you brought it out into the open will hopefully cause others to be more respectful and cognizant of future parts pullers. Thanks for posting a valuable video.
Man I really swear I saw you filming that I was there I was like this guy is talking to himself then I saw you filming and then turned around lol I swear that's in Albuquerque
I have 1 more thing to add to this list, make shore you are aloud in the junkyard, cause suriusly, some guys don't want you on there property, and if he finds you on his/her property, it isn't gonna be good for you unless the dudes been having a good day, cause he might have a big dog or a firearm, so make shore you are aloud to be on his property before you go neer it or inter it.
It has taken me over 40 years to amass my tool collection, I take care of my tools as I make my living with my tools. I do not loan tools. Used to but I find people seem to forget who or where they got it at. Some of these people have no idea just how much money a man can spend on tools. Their not cheap.
I dont mind letting some guy borrow some tools every now and then, but yea u gotta just respect and show common sense in the yard. I am thankful to those guys that leave the parts that they take off inside the vehicle as i have found many times the part that i needed already out and laying there, so i just picked it up and home i go. I always do the same and hope i have made somebody's day easier just like they have made mine. Pass it forward mofos.
I agree with all of your points in the video. Many times I go looking for truck parts, sometimes I find the part I need over in the ford passenger car section or rv/bus section. If you saw our junk yards around baltimore (mainly LKQ yards) i think you'd have a heart attack. Broken glass, trash, useful parts all over the ground everywhere, all of the ground everywhere constantly saturated with oil, antifreeze and other fluids and people asking for stuff every time. My biggest pet peeve was something not mentioned in the video. It's being sized up at the cashier's window. Most of the time you pull yourself a piece of trim from the interior of the vehicle that would otherwise be of no value to the yard and would be crushed in it's donor car then they give you an insane price for it only for you to leave it behind or watch the cashier throw it in the garbage bin right in front of you (it's happened to me). Makes no sense that you can't even get fair prices for what is essentially useless trash (non-metallic items) and basically a nuisance to the yard. Especially when you have multiple other items you're actually buying, you think they'd cut you some slack...
Well, of course it's all good stuff but... The people who need to learn these things are _not_ the kinda folks who would even watch this video. And the beat goes on...
I really liked this video. I never had to pull parts from a junk yard myself until I owned multiple cars. The unfortunate thing is that we live in a modern society that hates their neighbors. You are just giving evil, no good people ideas on how to make the next guy miserable. Thanks for the video.
Not following these rules is why scrapyards don't let people into their yards. I wish there were more people like you that have consideration for other fellow DIY dismantlers like us ! EXCELLENT VIDEO, Worth the watch my friend !
There is a high percentage of glass parts that are broken by dumbasses rummaging through lots. I see it all the time. I go to countless yards and I’ve witnessed it happen many times. Seen guys get caught smashing windows and they get charged for that part...
Fifthcell I go to this particular yard and I never seen that, most cars have their windows untouched except for the ones that got broken from the crash, not saying that it doesn’t happen but it’s not that often as you think
I worked in the office at a auto dismantler yard n I love n back up every single one of ur rules but you forgot one "DO NOT TAKE A SHIT INSIDE THE CARS"! Thank you
I have health problems, so I bring a plastic wheelbarrow with my tools. If people leave parts in the isle, I can't maneuver around them sometimes, particularly if they leave an engine in the way, because they wanted the trans. The Pick your part in San Diego has 2 men walking around picking up after people, and they keep the place CLEAN. I needed a running light housing, someone removed it from the van I was looking at, but they didn't need it so they put it in the van. Made my day. I didn't have to even turn a screwdriver.
Robert DIY You’re most welcome. I can count three times, that I have ever had to destroy a part(two were because the parts were completely seized up). It’s a pet peeve of mine as well. Nothing like walking up to a wire harness, and someone has cut all of the connectors off. Why not just buy the harness? I mean, it gives you extra wire and reference. Or someone takes a hammer to a part for no good reason. Keep on keepin’ on. God bless!
I work at one and I understand this guy . Yet don't assume broken glass is because of a customer.. the cars have to be cleaned out before they hit the lot for customers. We try our best to not damage anything but we do get cars in that are fully locked. And only way to keep customers safe from hazardous trash such as needles and other things that come off the street with the cars we have to gain entry.. the cars come from impound and many other places and sometimes fully locked. We also do yard clean up so I agree with you on keep the parts with the cars.. put what you don't want in the trunk even.. also we do try to keep up the best we can to keep walkways clear but like you said.. many don't care.. so when we find a tail light like you found it may not have been a customer it may have been us cleaning up and putting the found parts in the trunk or in the next days cars to be crushed.. we try our best to clean and look out for our customers... But ultimately.. if the junkyard isn't what you were expecting.. then go pay the new price for parts... We absolutely want to give you a great substitute for the premium parts at a amazing rate!! Think about it . Car was in an unfortunate rear end collision... Was a 2012 ran great when the accident happened.. everything on the front of that car is perfect!! But insurance totaled the car cause the accident hardly touched the frame.. any contact with the frame they have to total the car . Insurance adjusters job.. so everything else is perfectly fine to use.. some even buy salvage titles on Minor cars outside of when they come to us.. we provide a service of way under part stores prices.. so ultimately.. be considerate to others.. help keep your work clean... You don't need the part.. put it in the trunk or back seat.. I don't have the time to put a found tail light into the correct make and model.. great video though buddy!!
Thanks for bringing this subject up. And may I add if you take a part off the engine close the hood back down so the weather doesn't destroy the engine. The same with the doors and windows, shut them and roll the windows back up so the interior isn't destroyed. I always carry an old rag if I know I will pull a carburetor I stuff the rag into the intake to try and help save the engine. just think about the other person who may need that motor.
At my local yards they remove all batteries. Someone found one in the yard and hooked it up in a suburban. it was too dead to start it but needless to say all the lights were on, flashers flashing, radio blasting and wipers were going balls out. It was pretty funny honestly
I completely agree with you, and MAN! I wish people would be considerate when working out here. I think everything you said is spot on! Thank you for sharing this!
I agree with everything you said. Especially about not scattering parts. I found 3 good wheels and didn't buy them just to find the 4th wheel a few weeks later sitting in the middle of two cars on the far end of the yard and by that time the car with the other 3 wheels was already gone. And especially glass busters. Couldn't get the seats and covers I wanted because it was infused with glass shards. Great video!
You are right brother. I love love love being in junk yards. I don’t know why till this day but whether I use it or not it’s top on my favorite place to be. For me it’s a higher meditation
I agree with you 100% . I go to auto salvage yards a lot and I see the same things you described , one thing that bugs me is when people leave doors open and rain /snow gets inside...pretty much destroys the interior, I understand when the door is gone or glass is removed but to just leave a door open cause your to lazy to close it makes no sense
1. Bring your own tools
2. Do not make a mess
3. Do not destroy parts
4. Don't be destructive
5. Don't break glass
Also, plenth of water to drink.Being dehydrated aint good.
He has a great point the one near me is run by a really cool guy he’s around half off of what the parts store is hell he has stuff that you can’t even get at a dealer anymore like trim or od stuff. Hell I thought about going and getting a few of these parts and selling them on eBay
online game south
Except, the last three point are pretty much the same
PIMP VLOGZ agreed. The one I go to has cameras, but it doesn’t catch everything. If I see some twat damage something they don’t want, I report them.
Thanks, had to stop video. Couldn't stand listening to him bitch.
Thanks for calling out people that DESTROY parts to get to other parts. It breaks my heart to see good solid parts destroyed when I was looking for that part.
+mike o very disappointing. I'm fortunate to go pick cars during the week when they are first place in the junkyard.
Maybe it happens by _accident_ sometimes, though.
Ouch!
This guy has spoken the mind of every decent mechanic and DIYer. Amen!
+JoJoeBOC87 lol, thanks for watching.
Robert DIY no thank you for addressing these important do's and don'ts we've all been saying but couldn't put it in a simplified and straightforward way. I have subscribed.
"Bring YOUR OWN tools". Amen, brother!
I've never been to a junk yard and haven't been asked for a wrench or screwdriver from a stranger.
+NorthernChev lol
NorthernChev my buddy owns a bicycle shop. Near the mechanic's area, he has a sign: Don't ask to borrow my tools & I won't ask to borrow your girlfriend. : P
Robert DIY in my defense the only time I asked to borrow a tool at a yard I was 15 or 16 trying to fix my car.
So true. Please text me the parts you asked me about so I don't forget again.
AKJeeper right I needed the crank so I put the rest of the engine in the truck and I always check inside the car and In the truck because that's where I put the parts I don't need
I just had that happen this weekend! and had all the bolts on the seat next to it all!!
Dang, they usually check tool boxes.
@@RobertDIY They do. That's why I stuff smaller stuff like relays, fushes, bulbs, etc. in my pants. :P
@@chiil034 makes you know better than any other thief...
Renier Smeets went to a LKQ they checked my box coming in but not when I checked out.
What a Snitch 😂
I accidently dropped my t25 tip inside a fender and could not retrieve it. I walked around asking if I could borrow someone's to take the last screw out that held my part in. I was so embarrassed and ashamed... Sorry fellow DIY'ers.
That's different than going in the junkyard with NO TOOLS knowing that you will bother others for theirs.
We've all lost sockets in the dark abyss under the hood there's no shame in that.
There's a 10 mil socket in a door I could not retrieve once. They should sell them by the dozen. I believe ten mil sockets and wrenches are cursed to always be lost first.
240guy r
240guy that's totally different..
AND STOP SCRAPING EMBLEMS OFF WITH A SCREWDRIVER! Maybe I needed that trunk/fender/hood and didn't want to repaint it!
+aaron71 true.
aaron71
I use a dull pocket knife
aaron71 Why wouldn't you repaint it???
Ole Boy maybe the paint was In good shape but the screwdriver messed it up. I've found pristine condition panels before
The last two times I went to Pull-A-Part somebody had took a dump between cars!😡
I guess it's better between cars than between their legs.
😹😹
🤣
Sounds hot
That's a long walk with greasy cheeks
I think I have spent half my life in junk yards always looking for parts to restore older cars, its a fun hobby. I dont think people know not to trash out the yard, Had a friend go with me and right off the bat he started just throwing parts everywhere , I said what are you doing, he just looked at me , Thought thats what you do in a junk yard. I had to set him down and explain , I said look there are rules to Golf, and there are rules to parts getting in yards. He now understands. This was a video that needed to be made. Thanks Robert
+Charles Miller thanks for watching and sharing.
I took an intake off a Pajero and paint it silver. Now it sits in my room as a decoration piece. I felt so awsome taking it
Just discovered salvage yards and it never crossed my mind to be destructive....but then, we women have etiquette and politeness forced down our throats from birth! 😁😁 Glad I didn't break any of the rules! The yard is such a fun place!
I like you man. Wish more people thought like this.
BigKleib34:. My thoughts exactly,I can't agree more. I for one just hate it when people have poor or bad housekeeping practices. Mr Robert, you're absolutely correct about this. Amen brother!
BigKleib34 yes i agree
Amen!!!!!
Are you in love with this guy?
Pick-n-Pull sucks.
Thanks for watching and sharing.
These people you described are the main reason yards are becoming less pick part friendly. A lot of junkyards in Texas are picking your parts for you after you ask to choose the best part from the yard.
+Dime Fever lot more expensive.
Dime Fever So true the yards are fed up with people coming in and destroying $50-$100 worth of parts trying to get their $10 part.It sounds strange today but people(guys) used to be careful when they were removing something and were respectful of what they left behind.
Robert DIY don't feed the junkyard dog 90%lean hamburger hes not on a diet😎
Dime Fever I've been to a junkyard where you can look for the part you want and they will remove it and get it for you.
Theres 583 dislikes...There the window breakers...
LOL
They're*
Those are the window lickers.
Hamma1340 *they're.... Sorry, dude
LOL, only took you 1 trip.
the 5 commandments of the junkyard
+awesomefacepalm it would help.
What about them? They... what?
Never been to a junkyard, but I'd love to go when I get a project car. I never really thought of junkyard etiquette, so thank you for the information.
Thank you for watching.
chris hazen actually you should go to the junkyard because why I got an amazing story for you about my Ford F-150 if you want to know give me a text back
chris hazen They use to be fun to just go look. Prices are insane nowadays tho.
chris hazen
Haha when I was a little younger I used to frequent them a lot.
When they ask what you’re looking for, don’t just say I’m here to look around I’ll know it when I see it, haha they didn’t wanna let me in.
The guy said “you need a jack for an 88 Sentra right? Wink wink, ok go ahead. “
Same but the good junkyards close to me closed and the other 1 is really small.
"Now i gotta pick glass outta my rear end for three days!"
LMBO
Robert, you had me laughing and fuming mad all in one video. You nailed every one of my pet peeves of pulling parts at the salvage yard! Couldn't have said any of it better myself!
Thanks for watching
I will admit one time I had to shit REALLY BAD and I was at the back of a HUGE yard, there was a Ford Windstar with tinted windows, I went in the back and took a record shit wiped with the carpet and covered it with a door panel. I've always wondered if someone needed that panel and got a surprise instead.
+AmongTheWillows oh my. TMI
Robert DIY I felt real bad about the whole thing then when I got home and told my wife we both started laughing for the next hour.
+AmongTheWillows lol. 😂
😂😂
When you gotta go there isn't really a place to go on those yards. One comment on this page says "Don't stick Penis in anything" so that means you can't unzip and lean against an open gas tank and drain your lizard. To the rest of the world it just looks like you are leaning against the car. Smile and wave at people as they walk by? Yeah, can't do that.
I've experienced the glass problem first hand. I was pulling a switch for my mustangs headlight and the windshield was shattered. Adds a really unnecessary hazard while pulling interior parts
sure does.
Domenic takes a lot of force to shatter a windshield. there are multiple layers to prevent it from shattering into pieces so if it was shattered the person who did it lightly hit it multiple times.
you cant find a Mustang in Sweden A vreck cost at least 5ooodollars,!
My friend was trying to get a steering wheel off a car in a junk yard and the windshield was shattered and his hand slipped and he had to go get stitches on his finger.
Another thing, bring gloves, and coveralls maybe. It would make broken glass more bearable.
I can barely carry my tools BEFORE I get the parts I need.
Why didn't I think of that... whelp, now I know. Thanks!
Yeah but sometimes it’s too damn hot to wear coveralls in the bone yard
I thought I seen it all in the junkyard until I found human turds left inside several big suburbans and vans. Dirty hogs are too lazy to walk out to the jiffy johns lined up out in front of the huge you pull its. This could spread all kinds of nasty disease...
MrManiac3
brother you speak so many truths. the knowledge and wisdom in yo head is worth more than gold.
Thanks for watching.
Yes. Thank you. I went to one looking for a console for my freestyle. They had on with the same color interior and the console looked like someone took a sledgehammer to it. There was no damage to the vehicle indicating it got involved in an accident. I was so mad. I went to 5 other salvage yards and finally found my part.
Should make people watch a PSA of this before entering all junk yards 💕👍🏻
lol. I agree.
If they brought their own tools, half the time the idiots wouldn't need to break shit to get to one part!
Oh they'll still break stuff they don't care, they aren't paying for the stuff they break...bet they would take better care if they had to pay for damages they cause.
Drew w some cars are wrecked and you cant get to the parts
I have been going to junk yards for 45 years and I've seen it all these junk yards are organized people don't know how good they got it so listen to this man he is so right and thank you for posting.
Thank you for watching.
I love guys that don't bring their own tools. They normally pay me to pull their parts. My mother in law says only i could go to the junkyard with $40 for my part and come out with my part my $40 and $200 richer.
LOL, Awesome!
Doug Harris I've never thought of doing this but I will now
Thats a hell of an idea.I like it lol
Mewmew Designs man that's what I'm talking about👌
Damn dude good way to make some money to the side.
Love how blunt and truthful you are!!! We have had to go to the salvage and that broken glass issue is sooo annoying!
+Freedom Lover Yes it is
Thanks for the upload. Very true, as someone that spends a lot of time at the yard its important to show respect for fellow diy'ers
AMEN
This video proves common sense is no longer common... Great video and I have been in exactly the same situation many times... Bring Your Own dam tools. Mine cost me plenty (I only have quality tools and took years to accumulate) and I'm not letting you touch them!!!
I understand.
I always said that there is no such thing as common sense. if sense were common more people would have it
I like the message of your video; be CONSIDERATE, have CONSIDERATION for others!
A very important message in today's world!
God bless...
Thank you.
That is pretty much the golden rule. 🙂
LiteNRG 1 more like the rusted old rule. no one cares about anyone anymore. everyone has a agenda.
Alex V4 Well, thats your opinion and prospective.
I like ur message but Cmon ur comparing a boneyard to a bedroom, fuck I thought my OCD was bad, do u wash the Windows too..lol

Also why employees in retail stores get attitudes over time; rude customers and thieves.
#6 don't do xanax before going.
lol, #7 Don't start a fire.
Erwin Schrödinger i make sure to respect the car i take the part from. The car is their because of a reckless driver. I pay my respects and thank the car for still aiding humanity even after its death
Hedrox Ladimon that's deep! I do the same. Like when hunting, you thank the animal that gave its life for providing food.

MrHillfolk and by extension, 11. A car seat is not a toilet seat.
I agree 100%
+Vovl745 thanks
Robert DIY good video man💪👍
I've got a massive LKQ near me, and I love an opportunity to find a part for cheap down there. The unspoken rule there is if you didn't bring tools, too bad. Be more prepared next time. I always take crescent wrench in case I don't have the right socket
Good tip, thanks for sharing.
You hit the nail on the head been saying all five of those things for years
I only break things when they are already broken like if a dash pice is broken I don't have a problem tearing it up to get it out of my way but if it's still intact I will remove it the proper way
Cool, thanks for caring.
So smart and wholesome. Thanks man everyone who visits the salvage yard for the first time should watch this first.
This one and my other junkyard video.
Yes they do.
This man is an asset to the American society.
We need more like him and fewer greedy, selfish politicians.
Thanks for the kind words.
Don't just remember to bring your own tools but also remember to bring a metric socket set. Even American cars have metric bolts.
Yes they do.
Dang, same thing around here. I'm always putting the oil caps back on and trying to find something to cover the spark plug wells.
Lauren J. actually the fact he identifies color as different at all is in its own way racist but most everyone has done it at least once during their life.
But I wasn't talking about races at all.
glassholes!😡
Exactly. lol
What about them, Estevanico?
I agree with you 100%. I wish more people would be more considerate of others like you when they are at the junk yard. Thank you.
Thank you for watching.
+Frank Howard thanks for sharing.
they wouldn't need to do that if people didn't place the parts all over the ground.
That's a solid idea!
I spend a lot of time in the junk yard and completely agree. When I work on a car I try to remove just what I need. I try to keep the area around the car clean sometimes its never ending.
I understand.
Good day
+Heather Ward thanks for sharing.

I like helping people but i like not having to help people even more.. Especially when im trying to work on cars..
anyone can forget a tool or have a socket slip off and drop into no-mans land as they say. I know been thier.
I go to that one all the time!
I really don't have a problem with things getting broken here and there, do it myself from time to time, but really, some people are just destructive.
no...most destruction in salvage yards can not be explained by
"not born mechanics"...these that destory
the property in salvage yards, owned by others; are just swine. ]
since they have no integrity; they respect not one. walt
Good work Robert. I work there and i see many people upset because people are destroying parts for a bolt or something and we loose customers.
Come on guys be considerate
Thanks for watching.
Some people's kids.
Children are not allowed in salvage yards. Don't blame it on children.
My brother Xzedd used to say that!lol I think he heard it while in Delancy Street program, he'd say that & also "kick rocks" after he got out!
Richard Mann As in, "Adults doing kid shit" I believe is what he is getting at.
Richard Mann he never said children he said kids
Richard Mann "whoosh"
when he said don't break glass I was like OMG he is speaking to my soul. I see so many stupid kids breaking the glass at scrap yards.
+aidan zollner lol, it makes no sense to me.
not just "stupid kids"; but ignorant, selfish, self-centered, swine.
swine live the "way they live"; still has momma cleaning up after them.
walt
Lol that was me today I broke out every window from a school bus
It should be mandatory to watch this video before entering the yard and sign an agreement that you will follow the rules. Excellent Video..
Thanks for watching and for your kind words.
I have been getting my oil from the junkyard for 2 years now. I know exactly what you mean!
+Jordan Berry thanks for watching
Jordan Berry oil??
Wait what...?
Jordan Berry oil🤣🤣🤣🤣
Jordan Berry oil?😂😂😂
#5 needs to be repeated. If I had a nickel for every time someone asked me for a 10mm.
LOL, Almost weekly.
...then you'd... what?
Maxx Fordham I wouldnt have to pull parts at a junkyard... Id have enough money to buy all new parts
Yeah, huh? Thanks for completing your thought now.
Hey, my first reply here on your thread seems to have gotten hidden. Will you look for it there under "hidden replies" or something like that and click the button that unhides it?
Who goes without a 10mm that's the king of all sockets it's like going trying to build a house without a hammer
AMEN! I've experienced all of the above while at a salvage yard. All of the dislikes are the toes you stepped on. New subscriber sir.
Thanks for watching
You know this gonna be good when he starts with ‘maaaaaaan, let me tell you something!’ Haha.
😂
Hold on now, someone is paid to walk around and throw shit from one car and take it three sections away ( my dad's belief)
+Robert Alexander lol
This simple etiquette is what is in short supply everywhere today. Thank you.
Thanks for watching.
I agree with you 100 percent I thought it was helpful
Thanks for watching.
Common courtesy is not so common these days, just as common sense especially is not so common!lol
Though, I've seen people take parts & leave them somewhere else to grab later because they didn't have enough money to get all the parts they wanted, so they'd "hide" them where they can get them next time, hoping it'll still be there.
Man, this list can be 50 items long but I hit the most common ones.
common sense was never common
Robert DIY, I applaud this great video. This is just common, logical, tasteful information that needs to be shared. It is a shame that others are not respectful nor care about the next person that needs to come thru to find parts. It sad that this even had to be said, however, the fact that you brought it out into the open will hopefully cause others to be more respectful and cognizant of future parts pullers. Thanks for posting a valuable video.
+u2481 Merry Christmas. Thanks for watching and sharing.
Man I really swear I saw you filming that I was there I was like this guy is talking to himself then I saw you filming and then turned around lol I swear that's in Albuquerque
Yep, that's me.
Oh shit im from abq 😂
LOL , Robert is the real deal. I just subscribed a few days ago and the infomation I am learning is valuable. Thank you so much.
+Omar M99 thank you for watching.
Yikes!
It has taken me over 40 years to amass my tool collection, I take care of my tools as I make my living with my tools. I do not loan tools. Used to but I find people seem to forget who or where they got it at. Some of these people have no idea just how much money a man can spend on tools. Their not cheap.
james moore As in; Yes these are my tools. No you may not borrow them!
People dont care, see all of this all the time
Sad to say, you are correct.
You're a bloody legend...a lot of people need to hear this message.
LOL Thanks for watching.
Thanks for good video. ;)
Yes sir ALL of them!!!!! Please keep it safe AND STOP BREAKING THE GLASS!!!!
Thank you.
Boy I wish that was the kind of messes we had over in my area. At least you can still see the ground there 🤣
LOL
I dont mind letting some guy borrow some tools every now and then, but yea u gotta just respect and show common sense in the yard. I am thankful to those guys that leave the parts that they take off inside the vehicle as i have found many times the part that i needed already out and laying there, so i just picked it up and home i go. I always do the same and hope i have made somebody's day easier just like they have made mine. Pass it forward mofos.
lol, thanks for sharing.
Ll Lock
I like this guy I'm sure he would help if you asked him nicely really.
Doesn't seem like a jerk too me
I agree with all of your points in the video.
I've been to that yard. We have no control over that.
Well, of course it's all good stuff but... The people who need to learn these things are _not_ the kinda folks who would even watch this video. And the beat goes on...
lol, thanks for watching.
100 thumbs up!!!!
One of the best videos on here..... and it is just things that SHOULD BE common sense, but arent.
Thanks for watching.
I really liked this video. I never had to pull parts from a junk yard myself until I owned multiple cars. The unfortunate thing is that we live in a modern society that hates their neighbors. You are just giving evil, no good people ideas on how to make the next guy miserable. Thanks for the video.
+Joseph Miller thanks for watching
I only break glass when the car is locked and I need inside and they don't have the keys
+Cliff Shurson no problem.
Cliff Shurson Hopefully it isn't a vehicle parked in the customer parking lot!
Use a piece of solid wire, a door lock rod from another car will work and pop the lock, saves on breaking a window
#6 when you have to go potty dont piss on cars
Alex Hickey Make sure the car you're taking the parts off of is not one parked in the customer parking lot!
Thats what the big vans are for.take a leak round the back of.them. be a good trick though if you can piss into a car 😂
Not following these rules is why scrapyards don't let people into their yards. I wish there were more people like you that have consideration for other fellow DIY dismantlers like us ! EXCELLENT VIDEO, Worth the watch my friend !
Thanks for the kind words and for watching.
6:55 what if the windshield was already broken?
Then it's not your fault. 😒
Robert DIY yea but you said it like you’re accusing someone of actually doing that when I could have been done before the car even got there
My guess would be that 70% are broken by village idiots.
I found an AC compressor the other day. Very nice. ;) I have seen one other clean salvage yard, it was great.
Excellent! That saved you a bit.
Great! Those can be a real crap shoot. Some can last for the rest of the life of the car, however.
This video is gospel!
+Ryan Pinkham thanks for watching.
God bless!
+Ryan Pinkham very frustrating.
This is all just common sense to me. Maybe not for the "destructors."
Correct
Thank you kindly sir for having the guts to say to all what so often needs to be said
You are welcome
The first thing you do when pulling parts us to get a car antenna so you can whip the shit out of the people who do these 5 things!!!
😳😂, That might help.
The next time i'm at the salvage yard i hope you're in front of me.
Is that good or bad??? lol
Robert DIY I really don't know if that's good.
Interesting
This man's teaching common courtesy and common sense. He shouldn't have to, but the world is full of Jack asses. This man's got my respect all day.
Thanks for watching and sharing.
Lazy people..
Don't care about you and me and the next guy..
Good video brother.

Cool, thanks for watching.
Great points.
junkyard rules, anything goes...!
😵
Don't start the cars they don't like that much
😂
At my local yards they remove all batteries. Someone found one in the yard and hooked it up in a suburban. it was too dead to start it but needless to say all the lights were on, flashers flashing, radio blasting and wipers were going balls out. It was pretty funny honestly
At my local junkyard they even make holes in the fuel tank😂
I completely agree with you, and MAN! I wish people would be considerate when working out here. I think everything you said is spot on! Thank you for sharing this!
You are welcome.
Thanks for watching and sharing.
You are right brother. I love love love being in junk yards. I don’t know why till this day but whether I use it or not it’s top on my favorite place to be. For me it’s a higher meditation
We call it our happy place. 🤗
I've never been to a junkyard and I don't know if I ever will, but I thought this video was fantastic!
+Andy Ryan thanks for watching.
I understand.
