You should definitely also check out “Layla”, the Derek and the Dominoes studio version (not the Eric Clapton unplugged). It’s an iconic song, the second half is Dwayne Allman and Eric Clapton playing off each other, it’s a true classic. Or, “Why Does Love Have To Be So Sad” where Clapton and Allman have a guitar duet/duel that’s non-stop fire!

It reminds me of feeling that this music
brought us together as a generation. A sense that this was a period of time we were privileged witness. It brought a sense of community and a britherhood.
We are all in this together, and know its a moment we will not experience again.

Very nicely said, good lady. As we used to say way back then..."If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem". The music of that time was more than just music; it was a statement of who we were. I agree, it was a pivotal time in our history, and we were truly privileged to be a part of it.

This was Gregg Allman's signature song, describing how he continued on in the face of obstacles. He wrote the song, but shared the songwriting credit with Kim Payne, a roadie for the band who came up with the classic line, "The road goes on forever."
After he wrote this song, Gregg Allman wanted to start recording it right away, so with the help of Kim Payne, who was guarding their equipment, he broke into the band's Macon, Georgia recording studio in the middle of the night and went to work, figuring he should get some tracks down before he forgot them.
This first appeared on the second Allman Brothers album, Idlewild South, but it wasn't released as a single. The song became a live favorite and one very identifiable with Gregg, so when he recorded his first solo album, Laid Back, in 1973, he recorded a new version of this song and released it as a single. It became his biggest hit as a solo artist, charting at #19 US.

The Allman Brothers were the house band for the Fillmore East in New York, The Warehouse in New Orleans and The Fillmore West in San Francisco.
They would play the Fillmore East one weekend, travel to New Orleans to play The Warehouse the next weekend, then head to San Francisco to the Fillmore West.
They would play the rest of the country during the week.
Every time they'd play New Orleans in the 70s, they would play an acoustic show in Audubon Park during the day then head over to the venue to play a 3 hour show!
That's a real love for what they did!

All were insanely great on there instruments in the late 60s early 70s and all the members who followed were in the same caliber except for Duane Allman he was a king. RIP Duane Greg Berry Butch

I think you're starting to get dangerously close to a time in your musical journey when you need discover Neil Young ;)
And what better way to do so with one of the most heart taking songs every written about (the darkest aspects of ) American History, and in a live recording that might constitute the absolute peak of Rock music history.
You thought one bad ass soloing was mad? Wait till you get 4 mad skilled guitarists playing in synergy ;)
And get ready for deep cutting soulful vocals too, while you're at it ;)
Look out for the youtube video called " Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young - Southern Man (live audio 1970) "

This puts a smile on your face (like all of their music does), rooting all the way for the Midnight Rider. Raised in a home w/a parent w/
awesome music taste. Fellow Floridians (me-Tampa Bay area, they- Daytona Beach), their music was part of the soundtrack of my childhood. No matter what kind of day you've had, put them on & listen while it all floats away. You just feel lighter, happier & sense that it's all going to be ok. 0 Their music is vital for the soul. Astounding, knowing all the material Gregg & Duane Allman recorded together before Duane's untimely tragic death, the brothers were just in their early '20's! Gregg's voice resembled a world-weary man twice his age, as Duane commanded attention playing guitar in a style unique in rock (he was admired by both Jimi Hendrix & Eric Clapton, they adored the guy).
RIP Gregg & Duane, thank you both for the Southern hospitality offered up in your music.
