Right On Brother ! When I saw them, we were shocked that they were as tight as James Brown's band , and that skinny white boy sounded like an elder black singer.
So, the lead guitarist,"Duane Allman" collaborated with Eric Clapton to create the greatest Love song ever written. "Layla" is a song that will make you listen. Clapton will give you permanent "Stank" face...
Love Allman Brothers. Statesboro Blues. The slide guitar player was Duane Allman, who was a good friend of Eric Clapton. If you want something amazing, check out Derek and the Dominoes performing Layla. You will love it.
I don't know how many people realize this. That tune is an old one written by Sonny Boy Williamson, master of the blues harmonica, who was actually backed in his later years by many of the future rock stars like Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck. But this is one of the things the Allman Brothers excelled at...taking old blues songs and turning them into modern rockin' blues classics.
just imagine being 9 years old and your older bothers rush into the bedroom with this record and drops the needle down on the record and this song comes on , it was nothing nobody heard before. it was a sound that was magical back in the day .
Reminds me of the old Benny Hill thing, where the guy is out on the ledge in his drawers, the woman greeting her husband early coming home ... ... he looks, and next to him there's a skeleton on the ledge in its drawers... 😂😂😂.
The groove, the arrangement, the dynamics, the soul. The Allman Brothers Band had it all. When it's done that well it will still sound good a thousand years from now.
I was almost 15 when Eat A Peach was released. My buddy Gilbert said he had the new Allman Brothers album and I thought he said Osmond Brothers, who I didn’t care to hear. I’d never heard of them, I guess I was a little slow but when Gilbert played One Way Out, it changed everything. It led me to Muddy, Elmore, Freddie King etc.
So, my friend, you came 9yrs later. I came 21yrs before. Live at the Fillmore is one of the best live albums ever. Every tract is gold. If you are into live sessions I also suggest The Who, Live at Leeds and Frampton Comes Alive
"One Way Out" is a blues song first recorded and released in the early-mid-1960s by Sonny Boy Williamson II and Elmore James, an R&B hit under a different name for G.L. Crockett (who also recorded as "G. Davy Crockett") in the mid-1960s, and then popularized to rock audiences in the early 1970s and onward by The Allman Brothers Band.
The Fillmore West (and Fillmore East) was operated by a promoter named Bill Graham. Bill was a hoarder of music. Every band that played at his club he recorded (both audio and some video). He saved all the tapes. He saved all the unsold tickets... all the T-shirts, posters, handbills... everything. Nobody really knew until years after his death when a developer bought the building that used to house his offices and while inspecting the building they went into the unused basement. There they found file cabinets crammed in the room full of this stuff. The recorded concerts were put on a website where you used to be able to stream them for free... the site has come much more commercial since then and the free streaming is pretty much gone. The other collectables were for sale but I'm sure they have sold out of the original collection materials by now and are reselling other collectables they've acquired. The site was/is called Wolfgang's Vault. Wolfgang was Bill's real first name and they used that to avoid confusion with evangelist, Billy Graham. This video is probably from Bill's collection and was most likely recorded from the soundboard which would explain the distant sound of the audience. We are only hearing the audience noise that was picked up through the microphones on stage.
definition of southern rock. Yes this was overdubbed footage. This is also the foundation of a lot of blues rock as well. Greg had the voice, and Dwayne had the slide.
Allman Brothers doing TBone Walker “They Call it Stormy Monday” or doing Muddy Waters “Trouble no More” both From the Fillmore album. In the words of Brother Gregg “Ahh play da blues”!
This song is actually a cover of the great blues artist SonnyBoy Williamson. Sonny’s version is very harmonica driven and even faster I believe. Check it out.
Jamal, it brings me great joy to see your reaction to some of the best music by one of the greatest bands in God's green earth. If you want to be blown away listen to "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" from the Fillmore East album. The greatest jam I've ever heard in my life.
The Brothers are the best band in there day ! I started with them in 8th grade I’m 65 years old an that time had the best music an yes that band with Greg Allman was the best band there was all time best music! You can’t put nobody better than them wiping post , felmore east , eat a peach what’s better! The stones come close with sticky fingers, an exil on Main Street! Hot rocks was god but I liked beggars banquet
Don't worry, "Black Dog" was Winston Churchill's name for his severe depression, taken from English/Welsh folklore, like Cwn Anwynn... he used to say as he dozed off he started to actually see the darn thing. The area of Brooklyn I frequent most ... the "other side" of the neighborhood 😂.... has a lot of its own folklore since I was a kid, which to me seems like a smokescreen for the genuinely spooky... I used to have a friend who lived a block down from the area, who could X-Files up a storm... to cover, in my opinion, genuine second sight. But yeah, "Black Dog " referred to Churchill and folklore across the pond... nobody else was gonna mention the elephant turd in the middle of the living room, so once again, in the words of Al Bundy, "The little shie man stepped forward...or maybe the others just stepped back"... 😂😂😂. Either way, I kind of just stepped in it, but that's kind of like what I do. 😂😂😂😂😂😂.
The Allman Brothers Band played Fillmore East over two nights. They audio recorded both nights but only video recorded one night. The audio on this video was dubbed from the other night's performance because it was the best. It was the same recording on the ABB Live at Fillmore East double album. This album is one of my top three albums of all time. Eat A Peach, which was their next album is the other album in my top three. Duane Allman was a master playing slide guitar. If you want to hear something extra special, listen to the recording of Wilson Pickett's version of Hey Jude, the Beatles cover. Duane Allman plays on that song when he was a session guitar player at Muscle Shoals Sound, Alabama. Duane's guitar playing is featured at the end of the song. You will be blown away. Here's the link. ruclips.net/video/0y8Q2PATVyI/видео.html
Check out this version. ruclips.net/video/6NuNlas-ttU/видео.html Halfway through Duane breaks into a stunning and emotionally charged cover of 'Soul Serenade', by the recently passed King Curtis as a tribute. It's something special!
Lindsey Buckingham is awesome! He’s was Fleetwood Mac awesome writer but when he plays the guitar (finger picking style) it’s amazing. Listen to “I’m so afraid”
One of the Allman brothers, Gregg I believe, had dated Ronnie Van Zants wife ,Judy at one time before .Lol there are all kinds of stories about that . Lol
Not to take anything away from the song but I am pretty sure that video was pieced together with the album version of the song. Notice Dicky Betts had two different shirts during the song. Allman Bros are my favorite and Duane/Dicky the best guitar duo in rock history. Duane maybe even the greatest of all time.
You need some Big Wreck in your life. Ian Thornley is once off the best singers and guitarists ever. They put out a new album last year. But For the Sun. Check out Help is On the Way.
they sound like what we today call "progressive", and they were. New mix of different genre's and the members were ALL superb, just a perfect storm of talent. They always gave credit to who they learned from , were influenced by, etc. They grew up listening to old school Blues, R & B, Jazz, rock, country, etc. They sought it out - on record, inconcert, in person, etc. They are YOUNG here (I think Gregg was 20/21), and so talented cause they all started early with the music they loved.
@@anthonyantanaitis1720 I had a connection to the ABB, appreciate them so much. I think even more now when I think on how much better they are than 80% of what's considered good these days. And, I do like some music today. It had to be true talent then - no flash, no auto tune, etc. They are the real deal. I'm enjoying Gregg's autobiography as well.
"Live At The Fillmore East" is easily one of the best live albums ever. "One Way Out" is a true masterwork of Southern Blues-Rock. The way Duane and Dickie trade licks is phenomenal---unparalleled.
Without question. I left my parents home for good and drove across the country for two months in 1995. I spent 60 days with this album, Eat a Peach and Greatest Hits. When GA died 3 yrs ago, it was the first time I was personally crushed by a musicians’ passing. Not a live performance anywhere that equals it.

Freaking Duane
“ Ain’t Wastin Time No More” “ Melissa “ “ Blue Sky” “ Midnight Rider” “ Southbound”

Isn't southbound Marshall Tucker? Which is fabulous btw
it's time to start digging into Little Feat. but make sure it's Little Feat with Lowell George. Lowell was the soul of the band
Jrzy Tmata Dixie Chicken with Bonnie Raitt singing backup.

Truth!
Diana Dollar yep, I’m from CT and they were huge as well. Same with NRBQ.
Just put on Waiting for Columbus and let it play!!!
Your reaction is no different than ours was back when we first heard them.
And 50 years later, we still have that same reaction!
This was my first introduction song to the Allman Brothers. I was hooked.
And I was only 10 years old at the time!
@@pmar27 I was 10 when brothers and sisters came out, I was hooked from that point on...

I saw tyhem not long after.on Boston Commons 8/17/71 - One of my all time favorite concerts. Absolutely incredible.
Crazy they were all in their early 20's at the time. Old souls and a sound that was way ahead of the time. Instant classic.

FYI, on all the early Aretha Franklin stuff like 'Respect', 'Chain of Fools' etc., the guitarist was Duane Allman.
Very few people realize that Duane played for so many different artist. He was a Legend. Only the good die young. R.I.P. Skydog
Man, Duane and Dickie just rip up the playbook on this one. ON FIYAH!
You gotta react to Allman bro’s. “Ain’t wastin no more time”!!!!! It’s like one of your catchphrases!
