This is the GOAT of The Southern Rock movement. Duane & Greg Allman, Dickey Betts, Berrie Oakley, Jamie, & Butch Trucks. Duane on the slide. Influenced bands like Lynrd Skynrd & The Outlaws.🎸

@@snodgrassgerald2352 Southern Rock is different from, say, Zeppelin-type rock for the most part and the Allman Brothers started the Southern Rock genre. It’s different from straight-up Blues too. I’m a late stage Boomer from Atlanta and I was SO LUCKY to have grown up with all this music around me. The lines are very blurry sometimes too. Led Zeppelin’s entire first album (definitely ROCK) wouldn’t have existed without Willie Dixon or Robert Johnson, some of the finest pickers to ever play the blues 😄. Willie Dixon’s estate even sued them for lack of attribution - and won. You’re right though, the Allman’s definitely played them some blues, but they also rocked (Whipping Post anyone?).

"One Way Out" is a blues song that was recorded in the early 1960s by both Sonny Boy Williamson II and Elmore James. A reworking of the song by G. L. Crockett, titled "It's a Man Down Here", appeared on the Billboard record charts in 1965. In 1971, the Allman Brothers Band recorded an updated live version of the song, which was included on their popular Eat a Peach album (1972).
It's also the opening song in The Dukes of Hazzard movie where Luke Duke gets caught on the second floor with a girl when her shotgun-totin' father and brother come home.

The Allman Brothers age fantastically! I’m from Macon, GA, where the brothers lived in the late 60s and 70s. I also actually appreciate the quality of their talent more in the here and now as I pay more attention to the talent displayed by the musicians that were more of just a soundtrack to my youth. Fun to watch you react to stuff I've appreciated for many years...we get to enjoy hearing it again for the first time through you and it makes me, personally, appreciate it more. 😁

During a 90's interview, Gregg Allman points out the inherent redundancy of the term “Southern rock”: “Rock n' roll was pretty much born in The South - so was the blues, or at least a certain kind of blues. So saying 'Southern rock' is like saying 'rock rock. '
The Allman Brothers were the best example of Southern Rock, but .38 Special is right up there with them. "Hold On Loosely" is a good one to start with
