Elijah Blue Allman (born July 10, 1976), known professionally as P. Exeter Blue (Phillips Exeter Blue), is an American musician, and the son of singer Cher and Gregg Allman.
ALLMAN BROTHERS, "MIDNIGHT RIDER". Keyboardist Greg Allman. Lead singer, and yes Greg, and Cher were maried in the 80's I believe. More "STATESBORO BLUES".. just wanted to mention Greg Allman passed away not all that long ago RIP.
Love Statesboro Blues! Back in the beginning when Duane was alive that was always the opening song. I believe that last photo in the video was from the second Atlanta Pop Festival. They played first and last. 400,00 freaks there, including me - July 1970.
I'm really enjoying you guys enjoying ABB. And, yes, Gregg Allman has one of the very best voices in all of blues/rock. Please listen to him sing MELISSA - studio recording is just fine. You're nailin' it - thanks
The genre is known as Southern Rock.. Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker Band, Credence Clearwater Revival, Black Crows, ZZTop, a few bands that fit into this genre..
CCR were a california band doing swampy blues, only pure southern rock band to me is skynyrd, allman Bros in early days seem heavy blues psychedelic jazz
Nice. Check a LIVE of them doing "Southbound". They are definitely rooted in the blues.... A lot to choose from... "One Way Out", "Not My Cross to Bear", "Dreams", "Ain't Wastin' Time No More", "Statesboro Blues"....just naming a few....
Happy birthday to the late Butch Trucks! Born on May 11, 1947, in Jacksonville, Florida, Butch went on to become a founding member of the Allman Brothers Band. Together, he and fellow drummer Jaimoe melded their styles into one seamless sound that helped define Southern rock. According to the band website, guitarist Dickey Betts said the following about the lineup: "When Butch came along, he had that freight train, meat-and-potatoes kind of thing that set Jaimoe up perfectly. He had the power thing we needed."
Can’t say this is their banner song, but it got me down many miles; this was a soul sending river. Southern blue eyed soul, roots in black rural blues and church music. This will play at my funeral.
The Brothers were my first live band I saw when I was 14 years old in concert at the Spectrum in Philly. 2nd was Skynyrd. This Philly boy loved his Southern Rock!
Greg Allman came up with the riff and lyrics...came into the studio the next day ~ recorded the organ and lyrics in one take... Other insturmnts layered in after...one take...beautiful
Greg Allman sang lead and played keyboard and acoustic guitar. Second lead player Dickie Betts is the country tinged background vocal and lead on Blue Sky.
1973 released. Gregg Allman on organ lead singer. Dickey Betts on guitar is the other singer. Gregg's brother Duane on slide guitar. Amazing. Know/knew several members.
2 brothers listening to the Allman Bros 😊😊😅, simply the greatest southern rock song ever recorded . Will be the title song in my biker comedy if I'm able to ever get it done ! 👍🚬🥃🍺
Awesome to see your enthusiasm for this great band. Duane and Greg grew up in Daytona but the band is considered to be from Georgia. Duane plays slide guitar and Dicky Betts also plays guitar. They have so many excellent songs that your about to groove to. Check out an instrumental called "Jessica". Also, Blue Sky, Southbound, One Way Out, In Memory of Elizabeth Reed, Soulshine, and on and on. This is one of the bands that changed my life. I hope it does for you too. IMO the very best of the Southern Rock Bands. Followed closely by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Check out "I know a Little Bout it" from Lynyrd Skynyrd. You'll be impressed by the guitar work on that one.
For an old Motor City boy, you guys keep representing with real honor. Thanks guys. And yes, Greg was married to Cher for a while. Their son Elijah is starting to break out last I heard.
It's such a trip to see people experiencing music I grew up with for the first time - been loving your Led Zeppelin coverage (oh man I can't wait for you guys to hear Achillies Last Stand). As far as the ABB goes, I've always loved Ain't Wastin' Time No More - the message is as great. Jessica is a great instrumental - the story goes Dicky Betts couldn't finish it, then his baby daughter crawled into the room and it inspired him and he was able to finish it - you can hear the joy in the thing.
Gregg Allman the singer and his brother Duane lead guitar. Unfortunately Duane died young but he was one of the greatest guitar players of his time. I've heard he played guitar on Eric Claptons song Layla.
In the old West, the town Sheriff would put together a posse to hunt down a person who comitted a big crime like bank robbery, murder, etc. The only way to get away from them was to ride your horse all night long (the midnight rider) because the posse usually didn't travel at night and set up camp each night. So I believe this song is about an outlaw trying to get away.
YES!! ITS CHER!! THEY WERE MARRIED AND HAD A SON....ELIJAH BLUE,,,, HE PLAYS MUSIC TOO!! AND HAS WITH HIS MOM!! GREG IS LEAD VOCALIST AND THE KEYBOARD PLAYER!! HARMONY WITH HIMSELF.... CALLED OVERDDUBBING ....!!ONE OF THE MOST SOUFUL AND BEAUTIFUL VOICES IN ROCK HISTORY!!
they also do a live rendition of dreams, don't keep me wonderin', and inmemory of elizibeth reed which are all from the same show in which they did whipping post
damn good song to drive and to Gregg allman (the keyboardist) does in fact sing this. Also a side note The other blonde dude playing the guitar is Gregg's older brother Duane.
I love what y'all are doing, you are among my favorite reactors. I highly recommend anything by the Isley Brothers, and after you get past "For the Love of You," "Who's That Lady," both great songs, check out Ernie Isley's solo on "Summer Breeze." It will blow you away. Keep up the good work!
Gregg was inspired way late at night to record the song, and he and roadie Kim Payne broke a window in the studio building to get inside. Once they had started, Gregg hit a mental block for a lyric--and Kim, in anger/frustration, snapped out, "Look here, the road goes on forever!" Gregg put in the words and the rest is history.
U guys are two of the best. Hope you dive into the Grateful Dead, Beatles, Pink Floyd, Lynyrd Skynrd, the band, The Rolling Stones, jimi, Bob Dylan, Bruce, csny, Eric Claptons bands, blind faith, ZZ Top RUSH. Acdc
imo, most popular music since the 60's has been fusion to some degree or another. Just like in politics, the labels often just confuse things. I like music that sounds good! Nice conversation!
You should hear the Foot shooting Party story. The had a party because one of them was drafted to Go to Vietnam and they shot themselves out n The foot so wouldn't have to go.
