Duane died in 1971 in a motorcycle accident in Macon Georgia. A year later in November 1972,their bass player Berry Oakley also died in a motorcycle accident a block away from where Duane died. They had several guitar players over the years Dickie Betts played with them until about 2000. The last 2 guitarist until their end were Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes, who are both great guitarists.
I joined the Air Force because of the Allman Brothers, I had just graduated high School in 1980, and had tickets to their concert, my boss at Wendy's called me to work, said nope, going to hear Whipping post, he said you don't come in your fired, 3 days later I joined the Air Force and stayed in for 20 years, best decision I ever made
I've made it clear to my family and friends that when I leave this world, this song is to be played at my funeral. If it's not I'ma haunt everybody responsible. 😂🤘✌️❤️
Allman Brothers are for my money, lb for lb greatest band of all time. And they've produced/featured four of the greatest guitarists of all time as regulars in the band. Duane Allman, Derek Trucks, Dickie Betts, and Warren Haynes. Man I love this band.
In the South, we really are blessed to have had so many great influences to our music! I'm a Southern Rock guy! I love the Blues! Love old Country Music! Love old Rock and Roll! love Soul! Blended all together, it's the greatest sound ever!
Used to ride around in my jeep..on backwoods trails..with my future wife..in the mountains of north and south carolina..in my 20s..listening to this..63 year old former marine from south carolina.
I had to come listen to you two today after hearing of the passing of Dickey Betts. I love your reactions and am so glad you found this band. I grew up with them next door to my older sisters house in Macon. Jaimoe is the last man standing from the original band.
The guitarists on this song are Dickey Betts and Warren Haynes. Haynes is also the author of this song. If you guys are enjoying the Allman Brothers, you should also try Haynes’s other band, Government Mule. If the two drummer thing impresses you, also try out the Tedeschi Trucks Band. Guitarist Derek Trucks was a member of the Allman Brothers from 1999 - 2014 and was also Allman drummer Butch Trucks’s nephew. Widely considered to be the best living guitarist, Derek Trucks has, more than anyone else carried on the spirit of the Allman Brothers with Tedeschi Trucks Band. It also features his wife, Susan Tedeschi, Whois an amazing vocalist as well as two drummers. Also, you have to do the Grateful Dead. The Allmans and the Dead were two sides of the same coin.
@@sblair6362 that’s not accurate. Warren wrote Soulshine in the 80s while he was a staff songwriter in Nashville. This was before he was associated with Gregg. It was Gregg’s suggestion the Allman Brothers record it though. He had heard Larry NcCay’s version, liked it a lot, and thought it would be a good fit for the ABB.
@@andyo3689 People tend to forget that Tedeschi is a killer guitarist as well as vocalist. She just steps back with the TDB most times because of (husband) Derek's talent level. T
This song was written and recorded long after Duane Allman died. The guitars players are founding member Dickey Betts and Warren Haynes who wrote the song. Gregg Allman is singing and playing the Hammond Organ.
Much respect guys for being open minded enough to explore different genres of music and seeing that it can be great no matter what your community says about it. These bands back in the day were real musicians and not studio creations. Glad I found your channel!
Sorry for your loss. The song was written by Warren Haynes. He played guitar in the band but has his own band called Gov't Mule. Check them out . Your mind will be blown!
The Allman Brothers are my favorite band of all time. They became popular when I was in high school! The deaths of Duane Allman and Berry Oakley were devastating. The musicians who came in later were as awesome as the original musicians!
The story I've heard is that Herbie Mann was on his apartment balcony listening to the Allman Brothers playing in NYC's Central Park, rushed down to meet Duane, asked him to play on his next album.
The Allman Bros have been around about 40 years in various instantiations….there isa reason why they are so long lived…..I am sorry for your loss. May this great music soothe your soul…..
I can imagine Gregg walking into a deep Southern Baptist Church on a Sunday morning, or during a funeral, and asking the organist if he could play something, and belt this one out!
Sorry for you loss guys. This is one of my all time favourite songs. Warren Haynes wrote the lyrics to this song, band member and other lead guitar player in the song. And he is still touring. Amazing Thank you
Hey guys, I love seeing how much you love having your mind blown by insanely incredible old music rooted in the blues and soul. How about trying on some blue eyed soul from the mid 60s. The Righteous Brothers’ “You’ve Got That Love’n Feeling.”
The version of this Govt Mule’s live Album ‘With a Little Help From My Friends’ is the best version of this I’ve ever heard. Worth checking out that version
I'm very sorry for your loss. Thank you so much for the reaction and I'm very glad that this one seemed to lift your spirits. A couple of uplifting songs from the original version of the ABB that I really think you'd appreciate are "Revival" and "Blue Sky". The topper for me is "Jessica". None of these are overtly religious, but to me they are definitely spiritual and lift me up every time I hear them. BTW, the guitarists in this studio version of the song are Dickey Betts, an original member, and Warren Haynes, who joined the band in 1989. Hang in there guys.
I know yall are liking the southern rock. Take a listen to The Lynyrd Skynyrd band. Freebird live from Oakland in 1977 or Knebworth in '76. You will be blown away. I'm enjoying the videos. Thank you for posting

I suspect you guys are going to LOVE The Allman Brothers, "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed"...
The live version from the Fillmore is incredible.
I think that will be the next Allman reaction we do.
Just remember gentleman for every loss there is always a new beginning!!!!
