My jam. This is the song that made everyone instantly cool by just listening to it. We had on our bell bottom jeans. EVERYONE had long hair. We were happy and free. Life was good and fun! But the Allman Brothers made us all cooler somehow. It is southern gospel. So Midnight Rider is party and laughter. Blue Sky is should be next. As a baby boomer in his sixties, having lived and flourished in the times that these artists originally recorded and released this music, it is very moving and gratifying to me to have young people such as the two of you exploring and appreciating this music. These are the sounds and energy that powered so many of us through our lives, this kick ass commitment to the rock and roll ideals of living life to its fullest. Now long replaced by drab factory music. But just as dinosaurs once strode the earth in droves, this music was everywhere in our lives, so many great artists, too many to actually even rediscover in full--and young people today have no idea. So I appreciate and as I said, am moved by young people such as yourself who are making the effort to listen to this music and allow yourselves to be moved and even shaken by it. I loved your reaction the moment when Roger Daltrey screams towards the end of The Who's "Won't Ge Fooled Again." That scream happens to be one of the great moments in rock and roll, maybe the purest expression of the art that exists, certainly one of the top ten moments. And it was great to see your honest excitement. What next? SO much more. Of the Allman Brothers probably just get right to their most played classic, "One Way Out," though for a little change and some exquisite guitar duets, "Blue Skies." The early Allman brothers were powered by legendary guitarist Duane Allman, who died all too young and early in a motorcycle accident (his brother Greg handles the vocals and plays keyboards). He is featured on both the songs I mentioned (along with fellow guitarist Dickie Betts) and also lent his magic to "Whipping Post." Other legends you should check out: Ten Years After and super guitarist Alvin Lee. Try their supercharged version of "Coming Home" on the woodstock album (that one you should watch as well as listen to). Also give albino guitarist Johnny Winter a listen. Wow. Try his version of "Johnny B Goode," though almost anything he ever recorded will do. Santana is amazing. Start with "Black Magic Woman." Anyway I really am enjoying your videos and getting a chance to relive some of the greatest music of all time through fresh ears. Thanks!
So many worthy songs...if you choose Statesboro Blues, make sure it's the live version from the Fillmore recordings. Jessica and Liz Reed are monster instrumentals. Seven Turns, End Of The Line, and Nobody Left To Run With are quality tunes from the Betts/Haynes period, and their recording of Rockin' Horse from Hittin' The Note is one of the best versions of that song.
🙋🏾 This has gotta be the coolest of Southern Rock bands ever and this song I agree put them there at a square 10! 💁🏾 The next song you’ll enjoy would be Ramblin’ Man which is a fast ditty that couples can dance the two step with each other ✌🏾!
Another good reaction. Always loved this song. But you know I am going to keep pishing gor Foreigner Jukebox Hero. Live 70's version. You need to hear it guys. 👍💛🎶🎤🎧
I'm SO glad to see that you guys had done this song; I just found this. I've long said to you two that this needs to be a mandatory add to your driving play list.....BUT......for late night drives. Those long, late night, very dark drives.....you put this on, it's PERFECT. Don't ask me why.
I have to say Allman Bros put on the absolute best concert I ever went to and there were so many. They are the ultimate jam band and they never stopped. Saw them a few times but my favorite was Three rivers stadium and they never stopped for three hours. Phenomenal. I would say this was around 1974.
In Memory of Elizabeth Reed is on of the greatest instrumentals you’ll ever listen to. One Way Out is an ABB classic... The there’s Kind a Bird, which was the tribute to Charlie Parker, cowritten by Warren Haynes... Also, check out Gov’t Mule..., Warren’s main band. There first 5 albums are ridiculous.
The next song MUST be In Memory of Elizabeth Reed from Live at the Fillmore East. Damn it....just do literally any song from that album. The greatest live album ever made.
My absolute favorite allman bros song, and though there are many. This brings back so many memories for me. Love the songs that you react to. Keep up the good work. It keeps our music alive.

Oooo. Nice! Everyone gives Clapton all of the credit, but Duane Allman was 50% of the guitar work. Not to mention, the most memorable, high pitched screaming wails are the brilliance of Duane. Clapton (and others) said Duane was his musical soulmate. Very cool!
This is one of those rare popular songs that never gets old for me. Like, I used to be obsessed with this song and Ramblin' Man equally about 20 years ago. But eventually I stopped being moved by Ramblin' Man but Midnight Rider still evokes an emotion to this day.

Thanks!
@Shelley Gefter
Hey friend glad you’re enjoying the vids!! We’re having a total blast with it!! 🔥🔥🤟🏻
"Statesboro blues" "Ain't wasting time no more" "Southbound" ✌💖
So many worthy songs...if you choose Statesboro Blues, make sure it's the live version from the Fillmore recordings. Jessica and Liz Reed are monster instrumentals. Seven Turns, End Of The Line, and Nobody Left To Run With are quality tunes from the Betts/Haynes period, and their recording of Rockin' Horse from Hittin' The Note is one of the best versions of that song.
"LITTLE MARTHA", so different but so pure. I believe it is the only song written by Duane. He said it came to him in a dream.
🙋🏾 This has gotta be the coolest of Southern Rock bands ever and this song I agree put them there at a square 10!
💁🏾 The next song you’ll enjoy would be Ramblin’ Man which is a fast ditty that couples can dance the two step with each other ✌🏾!
I prefer the Greg Allman version of this one, with the horns in the middle section.
It's a neat change-up, but I like the original instrumentation better. Both are certainly worth playing though.
they both are awesome.>The horns are a nice twist.>
Its because of this song that I purchased my first Harley. Im 67 now and been a biker most of my life. Thanks Allman Bros. Miss you guys.
Radar love by golden earring
One Way Out! Incredibly rockin' blues jam.
Stormy Monday from Live at the Fillmore East.
I have to say Allman Bros put on the absolute best concert I ever went to and there were so many. They are the ultimate jam band and they never stopped. Saw them a few times but my favorite was Three rivers stadium and they never stopped for three hours. Phenomenal. I would say this was around 1974.
In Memory of Elizabeth Reed from Fillmore East!!!!
My favorite SONG here. Love this jam. Great SONG. A classic. Good guitar work too. Thank you for sharing this guy's
Jessica, In Memory of Elizabeth Reed, Blue Sky
Off Topic -- Robin Trower. "Bridge of Sighs" song & album.-- You may be ready for this power trio. I think you'll dig on this band in similar way. So good!! imo
@@charlielightfoot7006 They are beyond excellent! I brought up RT earlier as well. Now seems to be a good point in time for A&A? The Allman Brothers are a great gateway! ;)
As I have posted on here before, Bridge of Sighs will make the perfect drunk/stoned reaction video!
@@9337sjm How about "Too Rolling Stoned" for a drunk reaction? Blues bar included! lol Such a fun song!
They would love that.
Lisa W - Also another great track! Full album is prime 70s bluesy rock that we listened to in the early mornings after a night of partying.
We had a jukebox in the cafeteria at my Highschool! Also had a shack made out of stockade fence for ummm smoking. Right outside the back doors and noone bothered us. Ahhhh the early 70s.
Y’all maybe should react to Layla.
Duane Allman n Eric Clapton
Oooo.
Love what your doing. Next "live" reaction NEEDS to be this love song by Ted Nugent.
Song: Wang Dang Sweet Poontang
Album: Double Live Gonzo
110% guaranteed BANGER
Stormtroopin. That solo is insane.
The 1970 version of the Allman Bros song Please Call Home is a spine tingling call and response between Greg and Duane. Haunting.
Great song! 9.7
Now for a 9.8 song “Melissa”
... *Random Recommendation : Styx “Man In The Wilderness”
Allman Bro's Band. An American Treasure. My heart ached when Greg passed. That voice is so perfect for this classic southern rock.
Fuggin love this song. Allman brothers are great.
Listen to Blue Sky by Allman Brother’s.
One of the best solo’s you’ll ever hear. Besides
Birdsong live 08/27/72 by Grateful Dead
@Pony Boy
Thanks man! I’m not sure id we’d do a video for that Grateful Dead clip only bc nobody else has really asked for it BUT if you shoot us a message on Facebook or instagram I’ll personally watch it and give you a thoughtful response to it! 😁
Andy & Alex sounds like a very generous offer & yeah haha ive garnered almost no support for it 😂so Ill take your offer! Hoping you’ll be very honest with your critique!
Andy & Alex The grateful dead are the greatest hippie band of all time. You HAVE to check them out. maybe start with their biggest song “Touch of grey.” peace guys ✌️ ☮️
Hey! Congrats! It's been a long haul. I've been with ya, so I know. Lol Good Men, Andy & Alex. ;)
Lisa W ahhhh thank you! You are my one longtime supporter! Thank you so much for supporting the request, i may have given up a long time ago if it werent for you! :))
Caught them at a small venue unfortunately Duane died 12 days later. I’m 73 been to many many shows. I think they were the best
Try Soulshine. The song writing in this song is beautiful. Peace!
Excellent choice boys! If you like this, try listening to Statesboro Blues. My personal favorite Allman Brothers song.
This song was so good in the Devil's Rejects movie, you should check it out. Now you need to getcha some more Rush!!!
It was perfect in that movie!!
One of the best live southern rock bands, ever. Live at the Fillmore East. Statesboro Blues and Stormy Monday.
Whether you react to it or not, you have to listen to Greg Allman's version of Midnight Rider off his "Laid back" album as a solo artist. It's a completely different arrangement...haunting and excellent
Completely agree! Laid back is still my favorite album of all time.
Statesboro Blues, Stormy Monday, pretty much Anything from the Live at the Filmore East album. (Duane Allman was still alive playing amazing slide guitar)
Thumbs up for the watermelon shirt. Thumbs down for the Dave Matthews.
hehe...agreed! :-)
well, that's just, like, your opinion man.
Re: Dave Matthews Band. "Under the Table and Dreaming" was a worthy album, and I saw and really enjoyed the band twice on that tour. Then it was all downhill from there. Sigh!
@@ronforeman2556 about the only thing the Dave Mathews Band did that I kinda liked was that song :"Crash" that the FCC forbid radio stations from playing a while after 9/11.
This song has such a simple, repetative rhythmn guitiar hook that is incredible earworm.
