      Sounds crazy, I know, but it is almost like there is something in the air down there, or the water - because the South has turned out so many gifted musicians.... white, black, whatever - they can all play just as pretty as you like.

      @Blue collar Silver dollar - In many places, but especially the deep south, church was a great way to learn how to play and sing music, because almost every church had live music in those days before widespread recordings and sound-systems. Lots of local and regional gigs, too - very important to up-and-coming players learning their craft. The live-music circuit was good-enough in those days that one could make a decent living at music, provided one had a halfway decent act. All of that is gone now, most of it anyway. Well, at least there's still churchin' up!

    • @GeorgiaBoy1961
      @GeorgiaBoy1961 4 года назад +1

      @@masterofsparkshwy6974 - Yeah, way to go! Being a southern man myself, I know about such families. It's like there's music in the air or the water or something, because everyone plays and there's always someone or something going on. A lot of small towns, not just in the south, but certainly there as well - there isn't a lot to do except eat, work and sleep, maybe go to church and the local tavern. So guys take up an instrument or three to pass the time. And being great at music, being a success at it, was also seen as a ticket out of town and to bigger and better things; "a way out and a way up."

      Dicky Betts doesn't get the props he deserves!! Duane Allman was more creative and soulful (and my fav of all time) but Betts is actually probably the better player, as far as technical proficiency and overall ability... If you get what I mean lol!
      Unfortunately, after Duane's death, it became obvious that the true magic came from the band as a whole! Duane Allman was the glue that kept the whole thing together and, while obv still writing some incredible stuff, the band could never TRULY reach those levels without him!
      I kinda apply what Method Man says in a skit on Wu-Tang's 36 Chamber to the situation... The Allman Brother's Band forms like Voltron and Duane was the head...

    I think the reason you find it so familiar is that its classic Nashville rhythms. Dicky Betts, the composer and rhythm guitarist, didn't think it would be and Allman Brothers Band song. He had imagined he would sell it to someone like Merle Haggard or Waylon Jennings. It's that classic, clip-clop, horsey sound in the rhythm. There are elements in its foundation that sound like a 100 other songs over the decades from The South/Nashville

    Jamel here is where you may have heard this song in a movie : " Ramblin' Man " can be heard in the 1973 film The Exorcist, playing on a jukebox in a bar where two priests are conversing over beers at a table.
    In the 1989 movie When Harry Met Sally..., it can be heard playing in the background in a diner scene.
    It can also be heard in Season 1, Episode 1 of the TV series Supernatural. In an error, it can also be heard in Supernatural Season 4, Episode 3 entitled " In the Beginning ". Dean gets transported back in time and wakes up on a park bench. He stumbles into a diner where " Ramblin' Man " is playing on the jukebox and you can see the date on the newspaper that reads April 30 , 1973 , three whole months before the song was released.
    Scott Porter ( George ) covers the song in Hart of Dixie Season 02 Episode 02.
    The song is playable in the music video games Guitar Hero World Tour and Rock Band 2.

    I don't recall this song ever being in any big movie or commercials. If it was, it had to a very brief insert. I think it's just such an iconic song and was played on every radio station for years when it came out and now is still played in heavy rotation on classic radio stations. It's not as recognizable as say Freebird, but it's up there.

    Gregg Allman had the bluesy voice. This is guitarist Dickie Betts singing who was kind of the country side of the Allman Bros. Great guitarist too. One time guitar great Duane Allman said, "I'm the famous guitarist in the band, Dickie is the great one." Very high praise from Duane.

    Ĺĺised listening to this album, part of the soundtrack of my childhood. Growing up a Southerner & fellow Floridian, ( they-Daytona Beach, me-St. Petersburg), band has special place in my heart, all their music means so much to me & invokes such happy childhood memories, maybe cause it was one of few bands both my parents liked. My mother often complained about how loud my dad, then later, both myself & my little brother's stereo systems were.
    This is a song tailor-made for Sunday morning listeners who don't do the church lockstep. Ññlolimpøñĺ
    As per usual, watching your honest & thoughtfull reactions is like hearing it for first time. Please keep doing these videos, it's such positive & fun content.

    Good old Highway 41! (Lyrics, "I was born in the back seat of a Greyhound bus rollin' down highway forty-one.") Highway 41 is a major highway. I was born and raised in Northwest GA and the Chattanooga TN area. Highway 41 was within 5 miles of every place I lived. In 2015 I moved to Tampa FL, 600 miles south, and that same Highway 41 is only two streets away from me right now. Whenever I hear this song, it sounds like home to me, whether I am in Tennessee, Georgia, or Florida.

    A great song written by Dicky Betts, the other half of the dual guitar harmony sound that WAS the Allman Brothers sound with Duane Allman. THE originators of southern rock in the opinion of many. It's got a Cajun drumbeat. Hard to do. They also had two drummers. A very influential band with some tragic history. I was in junior high school when this came out. All the players in my high school knew this or some other Allman Brothers.

    Something worth knowing; genius producer/engineer Tom Dowd (Check out, "A Life in Music." Guarantee you'll love it.) always recorded the Allman Bros. Band live in the studio and then added overdubs. Les Dudek was tapped to cover for recently-deceased Duane Allman and he takes that first sweet-as-apple-pie guitar break. Dickie Betts (who wrote, sang and took the outro) was knocked out by that amazingly sweet phrasing and let's out with, "Aalll riight!"
    And btw, Tom Dowd remastered the original "Live at Fillmore East" and then released an extended remix/remaster of the same three shows. Way worth checking out....

      Who exactly underrates him? Hes internationally recognized as an amazing guitarist, is credited and compensated for writing over 100 songs, and is known as one of the leaders of the Allman Brothers Band. And why are you using past tense - he is alive so wouldn't your argument be that he IS so underrated not was?

    Dude, the Allman Brothers Band virtually invented southern rock, while using blues, country, roots rock and even jazz influences. This particular number is country-flavored, obviously, probably written by Dickie Betts. The band hail from Florida and Georgia for the most part. Duane Allman had died by the time of this recording, so the slide guitar was played by another gifted guitarist, Les Dudek, helping out Dickie and the band.

  • @redarmysoja
    @redarmysoja 4 года назад

    Guitar player Dickey Betts wrote this song and the band didn't want to do it because they thought it sounded too "country", but it became one of their biggest hits. Kind of strange Betts wrote it because it talks about his father being a gambler that ended up on the wrong end of a gun, Duane and Greg Allman's dad, a small time gambler, was shot and killed by a guy he gave a ride to and tried to rob him. Some more Allman bros songs, Soulshine, One way out, Ain't waisting time no more. You'll like them all. And just so you'll know, Duane Allman and Dickey Betts are two of the greatest guitar players ever.

  • @redSectorA

    It's been on the radio since 1973 and you are asking where is it from haha
    From Wikipedia: "Ramblin' Man" can be heard in the 1973 film The Exorcist, playing on a jukebox in a bar where two priests are conversing over beers at a table.
    - In the 1989 movie When Harry Met Sally..., it can be heard playing in the background in a diner scene.
    - It can also be heard in Season 1, Episode 1 of the TV series Supernatural. In an error, it can also be heard in Supernatural Season 4, Episode 3 entitled "In the Beginning". Dean gets transported back in time and wakes up on a park bench. He stumbles into a diner where "Ramblin' Man" is playing on the jukebox and you can see the date on the newspaper that reads April 30, 1973, three whole months before the song was released.
    - Scott Porter (George) covers the song in Hart of Dixie Season 02 Episode 02.
    - The song is playable in the music video games Guitar Hero World Tour and Rock Band 2.
