It's so unbelievable that there are a lot of people out there who's so beautiful, talented, inspirational can still find reason to unlike themselves ,I hope people can all realize how beautiful they actually are .
Connie Lee self talk is really powerful and if it's constantly negative then this affects self esteem. I talk a bit about this on my channel in videos too but it's really sad and I hope we can change this in more positive changes socially to make ads and marketing and conversations less focused on people feeling like they are lacking.
1. Spend time with people who make you feel good. 2. Build on postive thoughts, delete the negative ones. 3. Tell the people around you what you like about them, and help them start their own positive thinking. 4. Upon receiving compliments, gracefully and boldly say “Thank You” 5. Write 10 things you admire about yourself.
One thing that helps boost my mood when I'm down is complimenting someone else-- By brightening someone else's day it can help make you feel better about yourself too-- Spread the positivity 😌
Also, gratitude (for anything, towards anybody, even in small amounts) is the best, instant-action anti-depressant. It works. Backed by science (2 TED talks by Daniel Amen).
Ok, let's try ten things... Oof. Here goes... 1. I love my ability to create stories (fantasy specially is a passion of mine) 2. I admire my courage to speak up, in public, as I am doing now 3. I am resilient, stubbornly so, and I keep trying to be authentic and to be better every single day 4. I admire the bravery I have to delve deep into my soul and make peace with my "demons", because I truly believe myself and others to deserve the best of me 5. I love my taste and passion for food and cooking. Thanks to my mom's insistence I can nowadays enjoy most ingredients and cuisines, and that's just so much yummy! 6. I love my love for the outdoors, heat and exercise, and I may not practice it as much, but I have not yet given up on learning martial arts, even though I'm nearly 30 and have been dreaming of it since I was 5! 7. Although imperfect, I admire my commitment to be empathic and kind to others, so they may never suffer; and I admire my capacity to feel guilty over the damage I've done, and to try to rectify it. 8. I admire my good judgement and capacity for forethought; it has saved me and guided me in making some sane financial and interpersonal decisions. 9. I am friendly af. Gods, I could befriend a lamp post lol 10. I admire my curiosity, capacity and desire for learning and travel and adventure, and the gifts and many talents I've been given. ... Bonus, 11. I admire how I'm always trying my best, even when depression keeps telling me I'm better off dead. I really need to read these to myself more often :)
this make my eyes tears, i'm so sure you're all of that and how hard it must be to admit that everyday, but wow you're truly amazing. Keep on the path to love even more yourself, you got my love and support.
1. I am literally a good friend. Especially when someone's having a tough time. I literally listen to him/her. 2. I feel connection with music. Music is like meditation for me. So, I sing beautifully too 3. I went away from my home at the age of 16 for studies and stayed alone. I survived that period, learned many life lessons and currently I'm studying at good place due to that. I'm glad I did that at a young age. 4. I am artistic and creative. I understand things deeply and from different angles. Which make things clearer.
Ten things I love about myself (today especially): 1. I have a way with people that can greatly influence them in beautiful ways, helping them open up, helping them feel included. 2. I love that I have a very strong, sturdy body that lets me get places easily, dance, and work out. 3. I have a unique look, sense of style, a weirdness that's always evolving and changing. 4. I am proud of the way I work on myself, taking steps towards personal growth, even though it's difficult. 5. I love the way I've made amazing relationships and friendships. 6. I have done lots of cool things, all because I'd never done it before. I am daring, brave, and adventurous. 7. I admire the way I am practicing radical honesty better each day. 8. I appreciate the good head I have on my shoulders. I think I've done what I've needed to do to survive, and have lived an incredible story. 9. I love how my teeth are naturally straight. 10. I am one of the best teammates anyone could have because I am always looking for ways to participate.

This video made me cry somehow, my ex had kept telling me how terrible person I am. I lost all my self esteem and the tough feeling led me to search and watch this video. Many thanks for Niko, I am writing down some good things that I used to like myself and I am crying so much. everyone who is wathcing this, you are amazing because you are trying so hard to be a better person and actually you already are.
Sophie Kim I went through the same thing. Essentially, that is psychological abuse. I used to be bubbly and outgoing and then my ex happened and his words and abuse happened. I have been going to therapy for a while now but it seems that it is 1 step forward and then 2 steps back. It takes time. Just remember not to be too harsh on yourself and try to stay around people that make you feel good about yourself. 💛 Good luck!!
@@isabellafilby3931 I'm experiencing it now. My wife is extremely critical. As in huge dramas 1-2 a day. After about a year I had a mental break down which was 4 months ago. Since then been so tough. We just been to a therapist 2 days ago and she is really trying to stop the criticism. So tough for me to decide to stop or continue. I love her and want to get through these tough times together. She had a tough childhood and really loves me. We married so I can't just walk away. At the same time she needs to change. If I allow the abuse to continue I wont be able to build anything and contribute to this world.
Me too, I remember thinking I was beautiful, strong and confident but my ex would always tell me I was the opposite, It's tough and I'm currently at my worst but I know it'll get better. We can do it guys I know that we're all so much better
I actually cried. Even the comments are making me cry with joy and realization. I'm depressed and I believe that I'm fat and worthless but this video just told me that I'm defined by what I do and not how I look. I love this video and I love all of you!
Allison Bentler you are a beautiful and strong individual. You have control over your own mind. You can easily release things which do not benefit your well being.
Every video I try... its just like... The people are completely untreatable. I wanna hear from someone who was completely fucked and addicted to drugs and hating themselves but turned it around. But I don't think that's even a fucking thing
Thing I like bout myself: 1- I have great ideas 2- I can be alone and go to places by myself 3- I’m brave 4- Im a great liar 5- I fought depression by my own 6- I keep myself alive even to I want to die so badly 7- Im creative 8- I have a great music taste 9- I am able to understand others emotions
A good way is to pretend you are talking to your younger self whenever you say negative things. So if I say "You're such a loser" to myself, Instead I think of my younger self. And I think, ifmy younger self was a different child, would I still say to them, "You're such a loser." Would I treat other people like I treat myself? Why should I treat myself like crap, when I even refrain from treating actually bad people this way?
When a negative thought arises in my mind, I ask myself that how would that feel if the someone else says the exact same thing to me that I am thinking right now about myself? If I can't allow anyone else to hurt or offend me then why am I doing this to myself? When we get physically injured or wounded, we rush to get the band-aid. We don't try to deepen the wound as that would be illogical. but a why don't we have the same approach for the emotional injury? Why do we let these hurtful thoughts keep damaging us emotionally or psychologically?
Ben Shocker I'm thinking about showing it in the classroom, did you think it was an effective use of your time as a student? What grade are you in, if you don't mind sharing? Thanks!
I went to a job interview. After the first few minutes of discussion, I remember one of the interviewers smiling. He said "I like you, son. I like your energy." Even though I had just met this man, it warmed me up more than I can vividly describe. It's not very often I feel that kind of positivity rushing through my mind, but for that brief moment, I caught a glimpse of myself. And I must say, he's pretty freaking cool!
I'm considerate I'm very intelligent I have nice taste in music I can write I dare to make the first move on people I like I dare to keep toxic people away from my life I'm thoughtful I'm entrepreneurial I have a sense of humor I'm resilient and I don't give up "I'm 21, and I think I'm as successful as my friends." Thank you!
[07:48] “Let’s create a new culture. A culture where we all get to grow up feeling good about ourselves; a culture where we can rewrite our histories; we can create new stories about ourselves.” Great TED Talking, Niko Everett. Thank You. Actually we should thank the creators of social network and the internet that we are able to feel so close. It feels so beautiful that I am able to praise Niko for her work straight.
I've always believed and still believe that self-esteem builds up self-confidence.And self-esteem can be built not only by ourselves, but also by the people around us. I've seen many people that tend to give compliments to their friends, they just start sending positive thoughts to them by the idea of acknowledging them and believing in them. That's usually what makes people think positively about themselves ignoring the negative thoughts that are usually brought up by their enemies or friends.

I loved my self up until I was about 12 or 13. I could list what I was good at and what I was proud of. I never thought I was ugly or worthless until I downloaded social media. Social media and our society makes beauty standards so high and makes kids so self conscious and makes them feel so unworthy of love and confidence. I am 17 and I've just started my journey on self love and spreading kindness.
I also hope you are still on your journey of self-love and spreading kindness❣️ I can feel your beautiful heart. I am 63 and just starting to dig deeper to see if I have a self-esteem issue. Happiness and self esteem r so elusive they come and go. I remember from about 16 to 20 i was very confident. Now its been a couple years of losing my mojo. Life happened and it took my self image with it. Trying to build it back up again but it seems easier to wallow in self pity. Its easier when u have a busy social life and get out of ur comfort zone. High school helped cuz there r so many people to talk to. It takes lots of effort. 12 step groups helped alot too cuz i could use many mentors. Sad thing is u have to find ur own way cuz 90 percent of our daily conversations have nothing to do with how we truly feel about lifuuue and urself but these r conversations we need to have. Be willing to listen to others who seem to have self esteem if u don't have it.

If you're a kid or a teenager reading this, I hope you learn to love yourself. Your self-worth should not be in the grades you make on a test but it should be within yourself. I thought I was dumb and stupid as a kid/teen because I always failed tests, didn't know how to study effectively and barely made it out of high school. Looking back I now know that the reason why I did so horrible in school was because I didn't believe in myself. I actually really believed deep down that I was stupid and worthless. The most important thing you can learn is how to love yourself, respect yourself and honor yourself. How to believe in yourself even when no one else does. How to be kind to yourself as well. I hope you will take the time every day to develop your self-esteem. I'm 27 now and I WISH that all of this was taught to me as a kid.

Important Clippings: - Self-esteem is based on our own thoughts, and we can control our own thoughts, so we should be able to control our self-esteem. 1. The first thing we can do to feel good about ourselves, is to hang out with people who make us feel good about ourselves. 2. The second thing is we can turn up the volume on that positive thinking. We can build up those thoughts about ourselves that are good and delete the negative thoughts. 3. The third thing is starting to tell the people around you what you like about them. Jump start their own positive thinking. 4. And the last thing is that when we receive a compliment, stand our ground, and just say: “Thank You.” - To Do: 1. Be somebodies support and help them find themselves 2. Get out a piece of paper and write down 10 things that you admire about yourself. Even things that somebody else might even be jealous of.
Researching your roots and staying rooted in your culture helps! When I learned about the Celtic culture and what they stood for, that helped me jump in to my warrior mindset!

star light WOW! Thanks, that made my day. I am so honored that you took the time to watch this. You know, as much as anyone, i have my doubts still every day. Today I was sitting down to write about something new and all I could think was, "I am not good at this!" and I am so clear that that is not going to help so I took a break and got to read this and now I am powered up to get back to writing about things I think will help other people find a little more joy. Keep telling people what you love about them, that is changing the world, one joyful moment at a time. it changed my world today. YOU are the kind of person who celebrates others and makes their day!
Your welcome!! 😀Thank you so very much for responding it means so much to me. I try to be positive in my life and weed out the negative. It's very hard to do sometimes. I try and surround myself with positive people. I showed my daughter this video as well. She's 14 years old and as you know it's hard to have a high self esteem at that age. She's always comparing herself to others and she cares a lot about what people think. I know being a teenager isn't easy. Thank you again!!😀hope your having a good day.
This made my cry so much… I struggle so hard to just be myself and to love myself that I, more often than not, try to hide by using labels and titles I have. “I’m the caretaker” “I’m the coordinator” “I’m the…” or maybe with external validation. But it’s never “I’m me, and I’m pretty dang cool and I love myself so much.” It’s so hard… but this helped me and I’ll take my first steps after 20 years of living. Thank you!
When I watched this, I cried. Thank you so much. For this. Thank you so much for what you are doing for young women. I never realized how I dis guard myself because I compare myself to the "idea of the Ideal girl" But even to my friends, who are more successful than I am, there's this quote I have on my wall, that I regard it to my relationship status and friends even to family, because by my age, all 3 of them have one of the two things what I dream of my life to be like at this age and that wasn't business success, but really I should just apply it to my whole life. When I get together with my friends next week, I want them to watch this and I want to make an everyday effort to make sure they know they are beautiful inside and out.

Beautifully articulated! Niko has done an amazing job helping to boost the self esteem of hundreds, if not thousands of people by her exercise and sharing it here on Ted Youth! It isn't the "cure all" but it is a darn good start! I did this exercise with my 7th grade health class that I teach and they absolutely loved it! Thank you Niko for this great idea! And thank you for being someone's Julia! :)
I would love to hear more about how you have used this video in the classroom! I am thinking about using it as well and am on the fence. How does it go with your 7th graders?
1- Im hella good artist 2- i can learn whatever I'm into 3- I do care a lot about my friends and family, and do my very best to show it 4- Im strong 5- Im good looking 6- I do my best to have good grades 7- I do my best to change for the better 8- im smart 9- im hardworking 10- I have a beautiful body
This hit me hard even as an adult I have struggled to find value in myself and have allowed others to cast me aside and use that as reinforcement when I would think about myself and my worth. I mean if I had value I wouldn't be cast aside right? Or so I thought. Its been a long battle to get better, but it is possible. If you've just starting that journey please don't give up you deserve to know what is like on the other side of your fear and doubt. YOU define your worth not others. YOU are capable of changing your thoughts and YOU have so much to give to yourself. We have no need to compare because we are all different in our own beautiful ways and we should take that and lift ourselves up. And if you know someone who is struggling themselves send them here, help them find the tools to challenge their thoughts and just be there for them. Please be an ally to your friends and loved ones struggling to see their worth, it could really make all the difference.
I resonated with the idea that self-esteem stems from within. I am focusing on trusting and respecting myself, believing that this inner acknowledgment will contribute to my overall growth.
I have had a real problem with getting the thoughts out of my head verbally in times when it seems the most important, and in an effort to learn how to be more confident in myself, I have started a personal experiment. I am recording myself speak. I absolutely hate to see myself speak, it is extremely hard, but since exposure to what scares me seems to work, I believe that by forcing myself to practice speaking to myself instead of in my head or through writing.. I may be able to speak my mind more clearly. My body language screams lack of confidence, and maybe by being aware and changing what I see I will be able to better communicate with others. This is a good video, thank you for the tips.
I don’t have paper around, but I’m trying to improve, so here 1. I love to learn and collect information 2. I was able to listen without protest last week when my friends told me how I’d hurt them; I don’t think I could have done that in high school or even in college 3. I’ve stuck with a 4-days-a-week workout schedule for 6 weeks straight this year, more than ever before 4. I try to be kind to everyone 5. Sometimes it goes too far, but I feel my emotions very deeply 6. I’ve never lost my childhood love of reading, even though I have less time to indulge in it 7. I’m always willing to hug a friend who’s struggling, even if I don’t always have the capacity to listen or advise 8. I deeply love my whole immediate family 9. I don’t consider myself brave, but I did have the courage to leave home to work my dream job 10. However long it takes, I’m determined to be fluent in at least three languages other than English before I die
This made me cry. Thanks for this message. I have been dealing with low self esteem since I was a teenager. I'm almost 30 and still have negative thoughts about myself. Wishing I was beautiful and I feel unwanted cause I constantly get my heartbroken. I Feel like no one wants me and I feel worthless. Some people say " God has blessed me with a beautiful heart because I'm such a sweet person." He also blessed me with red hair which is my natural color.

Parabéns:) e muito prazer,Priscila:)
You're a good person bro keep up
It's so unbelievable that there are a lot of people out there who's so beautiful, talented, inspirational can still find reason to unlike themselves ,I hope people can all realize how beautiful they actually are .
It's surprisingly common among thinking people.
You've given us an awesome reminder. Thank you.
Connie Lee self talk is really powerful and if it's constantly negative then this affects self esteem. I talk a bit about this on my channel in videos too but it's really sad and I hope we can change this in more positive changes socially to make ads and marketing and conversations less focused on people feeling like they are lacking.

Connie Lee thank you

Bravo.

Hah!! :)
Fully.
Jack Dragonshield totally ... cause and effect :)
Yes!
That is the best thing I have ever heard. Thank you!!!!
Love it❤️

7. Although imperfect, I admire my commitment to be empathic and kind to others, so they may never suffer; and I admire my capacity to feel guilty over the damage I've done, and to try to rectify it.

@@isabellafilby3931 Hi how is things going? I would like to talk with you about your therapy experience.
Me too, I remember thinking I was beautiful, strong and confident but my ex would always tell me I was the opposite, It's tough and I'm currently at my worst but I know it'll get better. We can do it guys I know that we're all so much better
We are all here because of our exes 😐
I actually cried. Even the comments are making me cry with joy and realization. I'm depressed and I believe that I'm fat and worthless but this video just told me that I'm defined by what I do and not how I look. I love this video and I love all of you!
I struggle, I struggle, I STRUGGLE SO HARD with this issue!!
Allison Bentler you are a beautiful and strong individual. You have control over your own mind. You can easily release things which do not benefit your well being.
Allison Bentler
I have never liked myself.
Diamond Louis XIV Nope
Youre not alone
Every video I try... its just like... The people are completely untreatable. I wanna hear from someone who was completely fucked and addicted to drugs and hating themselves but turned it around. But I don't think that's even a fucking thing
Thing I like bout myself:
1- I have great ideas
2- I can be alone and go to places by myself

7- Im creative
8- I have a great music taste
9- I am able to understand others emotions
A good way is to pretend you are talking to your younger self whenever you say negative things. So if I say "You're such a loser" to myself, Instead I think of my younger self. And I think, ifmy younger self was a different child, would I still say to them, "You're such a loser." Would I treat other people like I treat myself? Why should I treat myself like crap, when I even refrain from treating actually bad people this way?
Gex Gekko awesome statement
(Y) thats a really good point
Dude that reminds me of Rclbeauty101 and that video she made about self love.
Good advice, it's what I'm currently using at the time
her face radiates so much positivity and joy.. great video
the 10 list is very helpful if you do them everyday before bed
This video should be aired in schools....
I'm watching it in English class right now.

[07:48] “Let’s create a new culture. A culture where we all get to grow up feeling good about ourselves; a culture where we can rewrite our histories; we can create new stories about ourselves.”
Great TED Talking, Niko Everett.

Years later I’ve grown and I’ve come to admire myself. I love me and nothing was ever wrong with me. I actually find it hard for someone to not like me. I’m amazing!!
Today I accept myself for who I am, I am proud of myself for the accomplishments I have done.. I came to this country a few years ago, and I hated the fact that I spoke wierd.. I'd hate to speak in public .. i was so hard on myself and i pushed myself so hard that I overachieved. Now when I speak, people actually think I'm from here.. and when I tell them I am not from here they compliment me on how well I speak that kinda helped my self esteem.. but im still struggling with self esteem.. and I am finally thankful for accepting me for who I am. Thanks to Niko I enjoyed your talk.

Found this comment a year later. I hope you're still on your journey of self love
I also hope you are still on your journey of self-love and spreading kindness❣️ I can feel your beautiful heart. I am 63 and just starting to dig deeper to see if I have a self-esteem issue. I think I do too!! Now I’m going to work on it!! Let us know how you are doing!! Sending you love and hugs 🤗 💝

I love myself very much. I love that I don't let other people's opinions guide me anymore. I am proud of practicing forgiveness and inner peace instead of hatred and anger. That when I'm starting to hurt, I acknowledge it, I accept it, and I face it. I will not run away from it. I'm strong enough and I can overcome anything. :,) I love you, Nancy.

Your points about comfort zones and conversations are so true. Hope you’re doing better now g

I can relate 100% I always was an underachiever in school my whole life, that I struggle with confidence even now in my 30s

Important Clippings:
- Self-esteem is based on our own thoughts, and we can control our own thoughts, so we should be able to control our self-esteem.
4. And the last thing is that when we receive a compliment, stand our ground, and just say: “Thank You.”
- To Do:
1. Be somebodies support and help them find themselves
2. Get out a piece of paper and write down 10 things that you admire about yourself. Even things that somebody else might even be jealous of.
Researching your roots and staying rooted in your culture helps! When I learned about the Celtic culture and what they stood for, that helped me jump in to my warrior mindset!
Thanks for lifting me up. I have always been pulling myself down and now started to realize only thing wrong is that I dont love myself enough. This video reaffirmed that for me. Thanks a lot. Keep spreading the message and helping people.

I really needed this. Thank you so much. This is AMAZING! Your awesome!!
star light WOW!
I really did too.
When I get together with my friends next week, I want them to watch this and I want to make an everyday effort to make sure they know they are beautiful inside and out.
great ted talk, remember everyone. you are a gift.

I admire the fact that I'm able to build , change, heal , and to work on myself.
YES YES YES.
I don’t have paper around, but I’m trying to improve, so here
1. I love to learn and collect information
2. I was able to listen without protest last week when my friends told me how I’d hurt them; I don’t think I could have done that in high school or even in college
3. I’ve stuck with a 4-days-a-week workout schedule for 6 weeks straight this year, more than ever before
4. I try to be kind to everyone
5. Sometimes it goes too far, but I feel my emotions very deeply
6. I’ve never lost my childhood love of reading, even though I have less time to indulge in it
7. I’m always willing to hug a friend who’s struggling, even if I don’t always have the capacity to listen or advise
8. I deeply love my whole immediate family
9. I don’t consider myself brave, but I did have the courage to leave home to work my dream job

Gods sake I fucking wish I had an unusual haor color like yours
