Easy money right? I don’t think so! Problem after problem on this job. What should’ve been a quick 20 minute job tunes into 2 hours real fast! Under equipment and over tired ! This is what a emergency welding call looks like. Being a mobile welder isn’t all dollar bills and melted metal! Sometimes things look easy through a picture but take a turn once you arrive on site. I had to pull out all the tricks for this one! Do I get it done? Watch and find out!

We always think it’s gonna be a 30 min job than it turns into a 3 hour job lol but awesome work bro 🙏🏼
Always multiple by 10x what a customer says it will take to get the job done has been my experience, LOL.
After that it's back to them to let them decide what they want to do.
Then charge accordingly. ( without ripping them off )
Every welder says this lol 😂 quick fix always the end into a 3 he job ur right lol
You have to be realistic too😂
@@E_Rico Of course need to be realistic.
Just funny when most phone calls from a customer start with ?
It' only needs a small weld.
Shouldn't take to long to do ????
Sometimes i think to say.
Ok if it's such a small job maybe you could do it 🤣
As an electrician, I can confirm this. That receptacle that was broken off, I would’ve called it a 30 min job to re set it, but seeing the arc on the pole and the pipe, I would’ve had to run completely new wires to the outlet, and new pipe because are flashes are a no no to inspectors.
When he said "the rest of the poles are rotten so it probably wont make a fucking difference" I was dying laughing.
Same here, I lost it
That was great lmaoo
I'd leave them my card after the job. LOL
Bro... lolol
I agree with you I was laughing too if you were going to do a welding job do it right that's the way I was taught or don't do it at all doesn't matter if the bottom was rotted there's always a way to fixing it right specially when it is a support column not trying to say anything wrong it's just that's the way I was taught
Way to make the best of a bad situation! I really admire your 'get it done' attitude and hard work. Good video.
I appreciate that!
"Probably won't make a fucking difference"
Ouch... my life.
😂
At least he's honest. The main reason jobs go south is because the material you're working with is useless. I'm a Mechanic so it's different in my field, but anyone will tell you that. Maintain your equipment, and more importantly the structure you have people and product under.
If it keeps the roof from falling in long enough to fix the rest of it properly (and preferably without paying emergency rates) than that's more than nothing.
If they don't bother trying to fix anything until the roof falls in, then all you can do is make sure they know what you know. Beyond that is their choice, and their problem.
Floor jack and a ratchet strap
Looks like they need an electrician as well.
Just reading what you said and looking at your profile picture makes me laugh
well said Patrick
Not bad. Got a saturday call out guy had run concrete saw over a water main. Took longer to roll my leads out and back onto the truck than the job took to weld up. Minimum on saturday is 10hrs and $100 an hr.
Use the $1000.00 for a good come along and a sledgehammer !!
Exactly what I was thinking! It’s good to learn how to rig before you learn how to weld
Yes but If the hourly rate is acceptable well a man's gotta make a buck sometimes a man can be to fast for his own good but yes ur ✅
This dudes a fucking joke. I guess being a union pipefitter for 8 years has taught me so much about everything on my rig at all times.
Looks like he's at Lowe's. Walk inside and grab both to make it a 900$ job.
@@Grant-vk6zo exactly what I was thinking where the hell is this sledgehammer hell you're at a home Depot or Lowe's 🤔🤦♂️
OSHA watching this having a field day
I was thinking the same thing , if you ever had to fight osha the first meeting you have is all the findings and potential punishment you face lol this meeting would be hours long
"All the other poles are rotten so it probably won't make a difference" Lol bro
😂😂😂😂
Still got paid!

“Won’t make a fucking difference”
its true i used to work on lowes greenhouses for a while a lot of there greenhouses are in disrepair like that they just dont fund most of the fixes for it edit let me say at least all along the east coast there not in great shape dont know about west
realistically, all the columns need replacement lol. the building inspector needs to make a visit lol

wouldn’t this video be a lawyers dream when that roof comes down?

I think he means because of your hack attempt at welding.

A good tip to keep in mind before you start any work check how degraded the steel is because if your there to repair 9/10 it’s rusted out. Bring a brace tack weld it on cut out the bad steel weld in the new. Use your brain an trust in your skill.
Fellow boilermaker. Be proud of your work clean it up an polish it out. Love the vid keep it up. 💪🏾
i like the difference in tone from start to finish lmao, thats how you know it was a bitch of a job
I've been a welder by trade for almost a full year now and only now is youtube giving me the videos I wanna see

I have no idea why I watched this, I’m not a welder or anything near that field but it was entertaining. I might just come back to watch more of this. Welding seems pretty cool might try it out sometime. Nice video.
Great video! Working with what you got, that’s what makes it fun!
This repair was an adiquit emergency repair, and probably the only strong base in the whole building. Great choice 😃😃😃.
You have gotta love well trained fork lift operators, I hope you tipped him $20.
Dang good real world repair.
pole was rotten, should be able to take a bump.
Excellent job for this circumstances 👌. Stay safe and healthy
That 6010 is certified for downhand welding, you’re good! Keep it up
I pray this was a lowes. I can imagine the managers getting a little twitchy with you using milwaukee tools 😂
😆
looks like lowes price tags to me
Awesome catch, I didn't even think of that, if they get too upset they could give him some free Dewalt tools as a bonus ;-)
Use the same fork lift that ran into the pole to take the weight off the roof structure so you can move the post. Nice job.
not allowed to they said it was a liability😂
Right that's what I would have done but if they say no then I bust out the 2 ton chain hoist. Good job ether way sometimes these "easy jobs" turn out to be a pain in the a$$
@@MeltinMetalAnthony i think hitting that pole was a liability too. and. well, having those rusty columns as well.
getting it done Anthony...fantastic

thats a good instinct to have :)
If other columns in that structure are compromised with decay like that then the whole structure is suspect. I'm sure the HD or Lowes this was at had only one concern and that was bot losing sales. Get it done overnight quickly and open up the next day on time. Safety was way down the list.
Exactly. I am meeting GC for a quote on replacing all columns in that area today.
I worked at hd and im 100% sure that someone on the night crew hit that post with a forklift, stuff like that happened all the time
@@aaronsink2259 same... but even the EPJ would have taken out a column that bad. just give the forklift a home for revealing safety issues

Great job! Everything in florida either has mold or rust on it 😂. Good thinking on using what you have I always find your videos interesting. Keep up the great work your Mom must be proud 😊
Cuz they use cheap china crap. My building is on the coast of Texas, zero rust. Alloy oxide dipped Steel all day baby. Last 200 years before it even gets the idea of rusting.

Dont stop son...the trade needs yah.
I used to do a lot of swimming pool enclosures, 16-14 gauge post, they were all rotted like this due to the chlorine water, it was a nightmare, especially getting close to them with welding leads in apartment complexes, our truck had 20 footers if you can believe what they gave me...I went and bought my own...and even sometimes carried 100 footers from home with me..I roamed from SSt Augustine to Tampa to Bradenton back over to Melbourne, Kissimmee, Daytona, Orlando, ect, I would drive up to 400 miles in a 8 hour work day and they would ask why I only got 3 jobs done, morons, it was an Access control company, gated communities, [big ass gates that cars had torn up, I had to replace the pickets and reinstall, with no crane on truck, by myself, parking garages, swimming pools and neighborhood gates and fences.....great fix Anthony, Paul in Orlando
Doing the job by yourself sounds very familiar when working for someone else.
Hate getting those jobs that at least 2 people should be doing.
Typical bosses.
Send you out to do everything using nothing.
I went down the same road many times with one boss.
Great money, crap job.
Mostly because they send you out to do a 2 or 3 hour job by yourself that would need 2 people for the same amount of time.
Then have the balls to complain because you took to long ????
Glad i work for myself now.
Might as well..
You finish up doing the same amount of work for a boss but for less pay ????
You're hard not to like, I appreciate your work
thanks man!
Good job bro. Haters ain't shit
Did you think about grinding the old weld off the base before trying to pull pole over looks like old the weld was fighting you
I was thinking that. Easier to prep the plate with the pole out of the way as well.
Seemed to happen a few times. Much harder to prep stuff when there is a piece tacked in the way

still working on this truck. only took it instead of El Caracol cause the customer said " all you need to do is weld it, my men already put in place"
@@MeltinMetalAnthony nice would have told them more because you had to move it more but what can you do

This and maybe some rigging and maybe a come-a-long instead of using a ratchet strap
That’s what I was thinking.
And some longer leads.
i use my foot instead bc of the larger surface area it has a lesser chance of putting a memory into the metal, if youv ever had to do that with your foot it works as well as a hammer would, but yeah i dont think kicking that metal feels too good

I wonder if those plants could do the ol' photosynthesis on the light from his arc 🤔
😂
My guess would be yes, arc lights can give you sunburns.
@@AlmondFisk Yes I've had a few flash-burns myself. It's what made me ponder the photosynthesis
@@arenna7596 The light that plants predominately use for photosynthesis ranges from 400-700 nm wavelength. If those welders are putting out photons of those wavelengths, then yes it's causing the plants to photosynthesize. According to this research paper, www.jstage.jst.go.jp/article/indhealth1963/23/1/23_1_53/_pdf , they do indeed release photons of these wavelengths.

i was thinking 1000usd was overpriced but when i saw your lincoln then the gas then the electrodes, then the time, then the squaretube, i think you should charged 1500usd ,:)
All of that is paid for, and probably already made its value in profit.
The excuse that equipment is what drives up prices is correct in the beginning, but that equipment will be paid off in profit at some point, and thus that excuse is no longer applicable.

A $1000 job?? He didn't even grind off the rust dirt and corrosion on the top of the base plate for a clean strong professional weld smh
I noticed that too tho it probably wouldn't make much of a difference with how badly corroded it is
The whole pole is rusted through, it's not going to last long enough for that to matter.
@@collegestudent6071 It does matter. You must always sand or grind any metal at the surface when doing Torch / Stick / MIG / TIG welding to ensure a 100% clean surface removing any possible elements including oxidation to ensure the best possible bond. Good job brother.
Charges way more than his skill level and thought process is worth. A band aid repair at best.
Band aid repair only because he used 4" box rather than 5". Short of either cutting all the columns off at a certain height and replacing the bottoms, sleeving is the best option. He should hav used 5", so he could have had a full sleeve rather than leaving gaps at the cut corners.
Time costs money sometimes welding to shit metal that’s as good as it’s gonna get. It’s clear you’ve never worked in the field before if it’s to much do it yourself 🤷♂️
What would you have done?
@Garth Land your welding background is from where? If you don’t have any experience in the welding field you’re opinion means nothing.
