  • This gate has seen better days and worse welders along the way! Now it’s up to me to correct the shoddy repair work left by another welding outfit.
    Here’s some tools I used
    Temco Toe Jack - amzn.to/41vysFN
    Bocomal Welding Jacket - amzn.to/3L6M7hu
    Black Stallion welding gloves- www.amazon.com...
    3m welding respirator- amzn.to/3L28jsO

    That's a great repair job with the inner pipe too. For any new welders you should know galvanized metal is toxic when welding so weld it outside, not in your garage without good ventilation.

      💯 the respirator is essential

      I was an electrician/welder. My foremen were always electricians, but rarely did they have welding experience. One job my foreman came and took the fan out of our prep shop while we were away getting materials. We were making pipe racks to hang from the ceilings from galvanized angle iron. My foreman had taken the fan because he thought I was just using it to keep cool. He tried to fire me because I refused to weld galvanized metal without a fan or respirator. The superintendent came walking through with the rep from the plant we were working in about the same time as I was telling the foreman to go fuck himself in front of his fan. After a heated discussion, the plant rep told the super he didn’t want that foreman on that job because he was dangerous. We recovered our fan and went back to work, that foreman went back to the hall to find another job.

    • @andyf1235
      @andyf1235 Год назад +7

      @@dangroce82 All of that could have been avoided if the foreman just asked what you are using the fan for. Sometimes the people in charge are morons. It is so easy to just ask!

    • @dangroce82
      @dangroce82 Год назад +3

      @Andy F actually, it couldn't have been avoided because that foreman was an ass. We explained why we needed the fan and he just kept saying we just wanted to keep cool. He needed to go.

    • @strizzy239
      @strizzy239 Год назад +7

      @@dangroce82 even if alls you guys wanted it for was to keep cool; wtf is the problem. A comfortable employee will get better, and more work done. A fan is a very low cost item to accomplish that.

    Nice job as always. I didn't notice, did you weld in the insert? like plug weld it or something? Those wheels on these gates are always screwed up. I live in Northwestern Canada and the snow, the salt and freeze and thaw cycles kill those wheels (even the ones with bearings) pretty quick. There's a local company that makes them with good seals and boots that cover the hub to keep crap out but they want a fortune for them.
