      Well there is always a first for everything. Your the first engineer I've ever heard say that and I've worked with well over 100 of them. The saying we trades people have is a engineer will climb over 100 virgins to fuck a single tradesperson over. I've only ever worked with two who were worth their salt and they were humble and would go figure, actually talk to the trades people a out the design and what they wanted to see out of it as well.

    • @VantageWelding

      8010 brother. Not 8018. Although they make 8045 to be able to weld downhill. If it’s structural I’d rather weld with 1/8. On pipe I don’t weld with 1/8 unless I’m rolling out or welding 8” and up. Extra heavy wall pipe like .75 wall and up Ive used 5/32 lo hy to fill up and 1/8 to cap.

Y'know MIG has made welding so easy these days but there is something so elegant about stick welding that I practice with any opportunity I get. I’ve been acquiring angle iron and square plate shims of different sizes from work lately. Its new a construction job site, so it’ll all end up in the trash anyway. It’s driven me from TIG to STICK. been playing around, building a welding cart and a book shelf. Not going to make money with it...but I love “making.” Love seeing different methods and angles of weld puddles. I’m still verrrry new to the SMAW puddle. So every weld you make helps me control my weld puddles. Thanks for posting. Thumbs up everyone!!

      There's a lot of money to be made with scrap iron. It's up to your imagination, what I do is build stuff and post it on craiglist and someone will buy it. It's good to sell your stuff since its easy to build up a horde of finished projects. Plus it's a good way to learn more. HI there and thank you for the video. I'd like to ask you a question: I was told that when you do a vertical run when welding, you're supposed to start at the bottom? but I can see that you started at the top (4:30) and you got a great result. Did they lie to me? Thank you.

    • @VantageWelding
      @VantageWelding  3 года назад

      There’s vertical down and vertical up. Look up the meaning of the numbers in the rods and you will find out. There’s horizontal left to right and horizontal right to left. Up and down side to side. You can virtually do anything that is accepted within a project. Always check your WPS and follow the inspectors or QC’s guidelines. Thanks for dropping by

      It’s just a piece of 1/2 inch pipe on the inside it’s got a sliding bolt that’s got a point, that way I can rest it inside my center punch and at the end of the pipe I have another nut welded to it. That’s where the tip of the torch rests. I also added a roller from my plasma hole cutter set up for better stability. Sometimes you have to improvise. 😂

      You’re good brother. That’s the only way to learn. To ask. No question is dumb in my opinion. But yeah the welding works is big. There’s plenty of more work other than rig work. You got plant work. Pipeline work. Offshore work, aerospace work. Bridge work. Just to name a few. They all have their own specs and codes. Never weld downhill or use high cellulose rods on d1.1 and similar structural codes. This is an informational video more about arc shots and how to run the rods up and down. Two different rods. Two different applications. Hope this helps.
