    Anthony, I saw you have a Miller Trailblazer. I'm a certified Miller service center and wanted to give you a tip. Never jump start a Trailblazer new or old. If it has a dead battery make sure the ignition is in off position. Remove battery and replace it. When you start it with the new battery, verify that it is charging at 13 + volts to make sure the voltage regulator works. It could save you a couple thousand in repairs. I see this frequently.

    I watch a lot of welding videos to learn and the thing I like about this one is that it is more typical of what I end up working with... rusty metal in the dark welding in whatever position I HAVE to weld in (though I do confess in my earlier days to actually tipping a trailer on its side to avoid welding vertical and upside down). Rarely am I welding brand new little billets on a pristine welding table in perfect temperature with perfect light and perfect hand support...
    The only thing I think I would have done different was that last angle piece you welded on top. I think I would have welded it V down (corner up) and welded both edges as I think that would have been even stronger and would have looked better. Others can chime in and agree or disagree...

    • @PasstheA1
      @PasstheA1 10 дней назад

      it may look better, though it doesnt actually add any integrity to your work to weld it corner up. you are only getting that trailer home at that point no amount of welding pieces of steel to the exterior of a rusted piece will absolve it of its greatest weakness.

    I'm not a certified welder but I weld decent and often. When I weld thicker plate to thin wall tube, I aim my rod mostly at the thicker steel and "whip" it into the tube real quick so I don't burn through. I can see there is good penetration, but if anyone who reads this is a pro can you please advise me if this technique is no good?

    As it is, water WILL get under the patch and start to rot it out again and not be visible and since it gets submerged it will get soaked under the patch and it is salt water (looks like it anyway).
    After all, it did already rot out from the water it was in.

    How do you make the judgement on what steel thickness to use. I assume the trailer originally was a thicker and of course box. But as a patch how do you insure that what you've chosen is going to be strong enough to withstand not only trailer weight but in this case the weight of a boat and the abuse of road travel?

    Best way to make money. Odd jobs like that just come up randomly. Got paid $400 to cut some trees down with a chainsaw took us about 2.5 hours and it was pretty hot but got it done.

    Nice repair man, don't always have to be pretty. Sometimes you just need to get it to work. Sometimes that rusty junk is a real pain in the ass. I deal with lots of rust daily. 🤦🏽‍♂️
