I love the little cues that certain scenes have that lead into others. In this one after Gale leads the three in, when he turns to the camera you can see the knife in his hand for a split second. He's not the focus of the shot so you can miss it. It's like when Hanzee orders the drink, if you look to the side, you can see the bartender duck beneath the viewer's view, as that's when he spits in the drink. the deep meaning behind every scene, the music, the acting, the characterization, and above all the sense of realism are many reasons why Fargo is the best show on television
Great visual storytelling in the lift without a word of dialog. In around twenty seconds we can interpret: 1. The undertaker is a bit of a dick, if not a racist one, having his Asian orderlies doing such menial tasks for him as pushing the elevator buttons. His superiority over them is more physically present in his height too. 2. He's armed and his murderous intentions for Mike are clear by his checking of it's ease of draw from his coat pocket. 3. From the expression of the most camera-featured 'servant' (the one on the undertakers right, who pushes the button) neither of them want to be there and have a disrespect for their 'master'. The little looks he shoots him behind his back and to his partner make it clear he at least has a distain either for how he's treated or what he's doing. Also the fact that he failed to push the button without prompt might tell us he's new, as does the way he checks his uniform in the mirror. Adds a bit more impact to his collateral murder.
@Audrion Irks Who the hell is "Morrigan Aensland?" Can I assume you have no reason to call Varga an antihero other than you were upset about some other incident completely unrelated to this one?

@@PeterKuypers And here we are with season 4 about to be set in Kansas City 1950. The Undertaker works for the Kansas City Mob in 1979. So, everything we need to see a young Undertaker.
The Undertaker calls Milligan an “eggplant” while the Italians in S4 refer to the black syndicate as “mulignans” which is an Americanized version of the Sicilian word “mulignana”, meaning eggplant.
+Da1tonTheGreat Actually it came up in the previous episode where that Fargo mob boss called him a 'Blackie' and pointed out very racistly that the only reason he has a top job in the syndicate is because someone important recommended him.
No one seems to have caught the additional bit of visual irony of the scene. The Undertaker walks on and immediately calls Mike an "eggplant", an old racist name used by Italians back in the day. Mike is wearing an eggplant colored jacket...
I don't think there's any doubt about it. It makes you wonder though, how long ago Hawley was putting together the Mike Milligan story line. I remember back in season 2 thinking 'Milligan' was an unusual name for the character.
This was such a fucking great bait and switch. We hear about this Undertaker character all season, only to be wiped off screen in a flash. Show's genius for subverting expectation.
"Gentlemen": You don't know what's coming. *Extends his hand for a handshake*: You're starting to know. The Undertaker doesn't know what's coming. *Raises hand*: You know what's coming. The Undertaker is starting to know. *Gun appears*: The Undertaker knows what's coming. You drop from your seat. The Undertaker drops from his mortal coil.
1:47 Never really thought about it but the Undertaker's only the second person Mike kills with this particular gun. He also used this same move to kill the nurse when he and the Kitchen Brothers ambushed Otto and killed his guards at the clinic back in episode 4.
I reallllllly really really hope they bring this dude into season 4 somehow. So many characters from season 2 are gonna be popping up. Please show me the undertaker!
Anyone worthy of being called "The Undertaker" wouldn't walk into an ambush like that. There were 1000 different ways to execute Mike and the remaining Kitchen brother. This was NOT one of those ways.
That must be the strangest feeling, walking into a room planning on murdering someone you know is planning to murder you, who blinks first is up to fate.
This is not canon. The Undertaker never died but instead retired after making an emotional farewell at the conclusion of the Survivor Series on November 22, 2020, commemorating 30 years of high-octane, turnbuckle slammin' badassery.
This song is a cover of "Oh Death", which was originally featured in the soundtrack of _O Brother, Where Art Thou?_ Yet another Coen brothers reference in this show full of them

+Da1tonTheGreat Actually it came up in the previous episode where that Fargo mob boss called him a 'Blackie' and pointed out very racistly that the only reason he has a top job in the syndicate is because someone important recommended him.
+Da1tonTheGreat
You just wore the Internet's anonymity as a mask to call someone racist for no reason.
*****
"Why, because you're a racist?"
lol
I get it, "I wasn't actually calling him a racist" and all that, but you made some huge leaps with that one
Happy Birthday Bokeem Woodbine🎂🍾
04-13-2022!
This season deservedly has 100% on Rotten Tomatoes
No one seems to have caught the additional bit of visual irony of the scene. The Undertaker walks on and immediately calls Mike an "eggplant", an old racist name used by Italians back in the day.
Mike is wearing an eggplant colored jacket...
Oh so it’s just a black power fantasy lol
@@SladetheBlade.. isn't season 4 just that
0:18 Did the henchman just fucking talk?!
he can talk, but they dont like to talk much. You should have seen that they whispered to Mike's ear several times in show.
Never noticed the mirror work in the elevator. Brilliant.
Bokeem Woodbine was MAGNIFICENT in this show. Totally sublime
Undertaker: Where's this eggplant that cant stop shitting the bed?
Mike Milligan: Gentlemen.
Boom!
Freaking brilliant.
Is this the only time we hear Gale Kitchen speak?
[Username] Blank really bro was that called for. Or were you just desperately trying to look cool since you probably are unpopular at school
Ha ha fucking hilarious
I love how people are crediting Tarantino for this scene. Lee Van Cleef and Klaus Kinski, baby.
Taxi Driver
@@tennisthelegend a few dollars more was first.
@@1newbert I don't remember that scene from the movie, which scene was it again?
@@tennisthelegend ruclips.net/video/I2E8wW-YGBA/видео.html
it was at this moment that I knew that I knew that Mike was the best villain on Fargo.
Definately the great-son of Django
Season 2 was a masterpiece
Mike’s cadence is awesome.
RIP Mark Calloway
I have a theory that he is Loy Cannon's youngest son from the new season. the one who was traded to the mafia...
Same. Rabbi Milligan probably runs away with him after the two families fight, then renames him.
I don't think there's any doubt about it.
It makes you wonder though, how long ago Hawley was putting together the Mike Milligan story line. I remember back in season 2 thinking 'Milligan' was an unusual name for the character.
Good call
Just realized this is the second Coen brothers related media to have O' Death in it
This is definitely the Taxi Driver reference. Milligan looking in the mirror, and that hidden arm-gun.
A Coen Bros reference in this scene I just noticed: The song is "O Death", and it's from O Brother Where Art Thou
Mike was one of my favorite characters in that season. And I think he had the worst fate of anyone in that final episode: office work.
Payment for a life of being a murderous scumbag
@@ruger51995 Could be - or maybe just all his boring analogies. ;-)
@@EliChristman i really didn't like milligan i was wishing he would get wacked the whole season. He kept getting lucky
1:47 Never really thought about it but the Undertaker's only the second person Mike kills with this particular gun. He also used this same move to kill the nurse when he and the Kitchen Brothers ambushed Otto and killed his guards at the clinic back in episode 4.
Mike Milligan is the beezneez baby!!!
I reallllllly really really hope they bring this dude into season 4 somehow. So many characters from season 2 are gonna be popping up. Please show me the undertaker!
Mort Kellerman and Joe Bulo appeared so far, so maybe The Undertaker will too. That'd be awesome.
@@MoshTMA I wanna see more of Mort. He seems like a funny character.
Rabbi, the Irish guy, his last name is Milligan
@@justherefortheviolence Yeah and Satchel is (most likely) Mike Milligan.
@@pierceferraro2680 that’s what I’m thinking. Wonder if we will see the kitchen brothers at all, I wonder if they are too young
Anyone worthy of being called "The Undertaker" wouldn't walk into an ambush like that. There were 1000 different ways to execute Mike and the remaining Kitchen brother. This was NOT one of those ways.
Season 2 of Fargo was The Wire level great.
One thumbs' up is not enough for this scene I come here to watch it myself, share with other's at least three times every other month.
I've never understood, why so many people accept their fate..like this Skip: "Go into the hole"; "Lie Down!"
This song is a cover of "Oh Death", which was originally featured in the soundtrack of _O Brother, Where Art Thou?_ Yet another Coen brothers reference in this show full of them
SPOILER FARGO 4th season
Rabbi failed with him :(
@Man Please He wanted to save him from the underworld
This was one of my favourite moments in the entire franchise.
Imagine it was the actual undertaker
Great moment. Can’t say it’s the best in the season cuz geez man, there were so many. Don’t know how a shows considered the best season of a show ever, but just for my taste Fargo S2 and True Detective S1 are at the very top. Brilliant from start to finish. And the music in this is top shelf. Will never be able to say enough about Fargo S2.
Ayyyyy Silent Bob spoke, didn't notice before.
Well that escilated quickly
Pretty close to being the best scene in an amazing season!
Fck! That was one hell of a move even in slow mo!
The look that one henchman gives the Undertaker when he can't be bothered to press his own elevator button!
1:36 Gale Kitchen walks in with a bloody knife already in his left hand.
Hanzee is my favorite character from this series. Malvo and Milligan are my 2nd and 3rd favorite.
Surprised nobody mentioned that the handgun that slides down Mike's arm and into his hand was just like Travis Bickle.
Haven't seen this show but judging from clips like this, I need to.
I binge watched the entire season after watching 1of these clips. Its worth it !!
Oh, you do! The season is an opera mated with a western mated with high comedy. Really gritty and artful. You will be knocked senseless.
The Undertaker has been undertaken. That old bastard is just all bones and no action
They call him the undertaker for a reason. He's probably killed people in triple digit numbers. But in the end he's just a man, and a man can be killed
Mike Milligan is brutal...
He is such underrated actor one of the best
The shot in the lift with all the reflections, how is that achieved?
Is it shot through two-way glass so the camera isn't visible, or is it done using CGI?
Just a two way mirror.
That's after effects. wouldn't be possible otherwise.
