I bought it since it wasn't much more expensive than just buying the Krieg alone, the fact I can now play kill team matches is just the added bonus
If it’s the minis you want (either krieg or Ork) this is a great way to get some bonus scenery and minis for a bit extra
@@cat_or_rabbit yeah, i mean shoot plastic Krieg are $60 and this set only cost $40 more for what's bound to cost a couple hundred if bought individually
@@Sgt-lott10 it’s a really good saving either way!
@@cat_or_rabbit The Core Book plus the Essentials (measuring tools, barricades, tokens) cost nearly the same as this whole kit.
Three months ago, I had to order the starter set, from my local WH store, because they can’t keep it in stock. I felt like I was disappointed with the paper board but everything else was great value. I do not regret the purchase so late in the game. Totally worth it and gave me a gaming chub. I did buy the compendium afterwards and plan to buy Soulshackle. Gonna preorder Soulshackle today.
I can see why the paper matt is in there to keep costs down, I think it holds up really well and overall has just enough of everything in to feel like a good amount, but not overwhelming
awesome review, just got into kill team myself after finding 40k a bit of a chore / boring to learn / play. Visited my local LGS and managed to snag an octarius box for 105 pounds, super happy :D
Good deal that! I like kill team it’s a lot more snappier and quick to play - and bar a few extra ability words (which in comparison there isn’t that many) it was really easy to pick up - also painting a squad is a lot more easier than an army and it’s alot more personal
i am thinking of getting the starter set next month, my friends has only enough time to play skirmishes and want to try WH40K so this is definitely a good start for me. my intent was starting with Hierotek but the fact that i have 2 teams right of the bat makes this a worth considering tbh
Every game I’ve played this year has involved bits from the starter set still, I play Ork Kommandos but this set still holds up imo. Alright some of the rules might need updating etc but if it’s 2 people out the box as is. This is spot on and balanced
For the price they charge it's quite worth it. The Kommandos and vets are both great models and the barriers are generally useful and the book sare still mostly correct?
Even now, a year later I think this is a great set, if not for the squads and terrain alone
My son (6yo) and I have played the 40K Recruit Edition and I’ve been looking for something to get into with him. Necromunda seems too complicated but this seems like a good option for him. Thanks for the video!
With its concealed/ action mechanic you could remove a lot of the rules and almost play an Jr version which wouldn’t be too different from the main game - then just add little bits here and there when ready. I’ve played this a few times now and I’m rubbish with rules and things but on my 2nd game I was going 99% of everything correctly so it’s really easy to pick up.
@@cat_or_rabbit thanks for the response!
@@niallcampbell do hope it helps - I have 2 kids (11 and 7) and we play a very stripped down version with kill team it feels like not much is lost just playing with the basics - always hopefully that they make jr versions of some of these game systems
I do really like the idea of joining in with kill team, but I think I might have to wait till next year for my next box set. Do you think you’ll ever do a battle report with your amazingly painted minis?
I think with small games like kill team it’s a big possibility and something I would really like to do with how quick the games can be played maybe over a live would be good?
@@cat_or_rabbit I'd tune in if I was free but a rewatch option would be good too.
@@general_crap Yeh you can save lives to rewatch might just have to be in a bit of a streamlined format, might need to get a board ready I think 😉
I love the little words you added like the YEET.... awesome man! Thank you for the review.
My humor knows no bounds
Just bought this box myself and it's great, with some really great minis and la the stuff you need to play the intro scenarios included. However, there is one massive problem with it. In order to have the full rules for the Kommandos and the Vet. Guardsmen you need to purchase the Octarius rule book separately - otherwise you don't have the rules for building a kill team, or the spec ops and tac ops rules for each faction. That would be annoying by itself, but the place where it really takes the cake is that the Octarius book is not longer in print. It is simply not possible to even purchase the rules for how to use the kill teams which are included in the starter box.
Yes I also have since realised this, and have wrote to GW - nothing back yet at all, as I would like the full rules for my team, having said that they are around online and I’ve found a few good website that have everything laid out really well.
@@cat_or_rabbit Yeah, I've found the rules online as well - shame that they're from source which GW don't approve of.
@@badasbob4761 it is, would be nice to have the offical rules in a book however this is the only route people who want to play them can take atm, hopefully a big compendium of all the data cards and rules so far will be produced so we can have it all in one place
What are the differences between this starter set and octarius?
@@leonidaspereirafilho499 aside from ocatarius having more scenery in and more rules not much - but also worth noting you can’t buy ocarias anymore unless you find someone with existing stock
I bought the original Octarius set for the plastic Krieg but now KT2021 has been the only official gw ruleset I've been playing since
I’m a little unsure at how the additional rules play, I don’t thinking’s much different just some extra actions like ‘interact with terminal’ etc and I know there’s a ceiling rule (makes sense being in tight corridors etc) need to do some poking around and find out a bit more
It’s an amazing starter box. Only downside is not enough terrain to start
I dunno, I would say it’s very baby bear - just right, especially if it’s your first foray into miniature wargaming not so overwhelming
Dollar store hot wheels track sections are perfect catwalks and shoeboxes/other stuff do in a pinch for now :/
3D printer to the rescue😂😂😂
Excellent review, only thing you missed was that tac ops, and stats for each team were left out
I probably could of gone more in depth with the book and stats - however seeing as I picked this up fairly late (in a manner of speaking) I didn’t k ow what (or if any) had been FAQ’d and was still relevant - I’d like to do some more killteam box reviews in the future if I’m able to
The stats for each team is in the Recruit Book?
@@ObsceneSuperMatt Sorry, I mistyped when I meant Stats, I was speaking of the necessary equipment, tac ops, ploys, etc.
@@ObsceneSuperMatt yep!
I don't know why
but the "mini" core rules book made me irrationally angry when I opened the box
Ahh I don’t mind it, but since getting into kill team and having the proper rule book, it does feel a little odd to use it now
It's a great set I got the special edition of this with all that extra terrain.
ocatarius? (Or w/e it’s called) it’s a cool set although I would argue it’s a bit much especially for first time players - however the ork fort things is ace
@@cat_or_rabbit Yeah ocatarius
@@ondarkendwings defo going to grab that scenery for an ork themed board
Awesome starter
It really is!
What's the difference between this and the kill team octarius set??? They both seem to have similar stuff
Octarius has more scenery - however is no longer available to buy as was a limited run, so unless someone still has it grab it
@@cat_or_rabbit are the minis the same as these? Or are they new sculpts or something
@@tonydiazist nope all the same - these are also the full killteam multipart kits
I want the big box, why dont GW make more stuff when theres clearly people buying it?
Hopefully now 10th is out we will see an increase in the new KT boxes being produced (personally I can’t always afford the new boxes there and then só having more of them gives me an opportunity to get my hands on them)
