Shoes Made From Dead Outlaw!

  • Big Nose George was an infamous outlaw in the Wyoming area. He may be more well known after death rather than before. George has an unusual story in the Old West because he has a pair of shoes he never really wore. At least I don't think?

    Rhett, thank you for this unusual, but interesting story about Old West outlaw, Big Nose George. It's very interesting how a prominent physician and later politician wanted to study the brain of outlaw, Big Nose George, and the physician had shoes made from the skin of this outlaw. It seems as though the physician should have had his own brain "examined," period. Happy holidays to you and your family and subscribers. Take care 🐎

    • @RhettyforHistory
      @RhettyforHistory  2 года назад +1

      There were different measurements taken in this time period as they believed that abnormalities of some sort determined their criminal behavior. This is ultimately how they were able to identify Elmer McCurdy. They did measurements on him when he was arrested the first time. The behavior after George's passing is what is bizarre and twisted. You're right him needing to be examined. It's scary to think of how much power he had. Thank you for watching and commenting Brenda!

    This was very interesting. Can you imagine doing that to a body today? I’m sure there are laws now against what they did to George. It’s kind of morbid and sick when you think about what they wanted to do with the skin. But that’s also makes the old west very fascinating.

      No it really was reall. Seems strange that a prominent doctor would do that and then someone who was successful in politics. There were no laws preventing that back then. I supposed people would now if it was allowed. Thank you for watching Kirk!

    I sure do enjoy your videos Rhetty! I have my G'Grandfather's Colt 44 that he bought in 1864 and very similar to the Remington .44 in the video. Also I love that music at the start of this video .. could you please tell me the title of it? Thank you :-)

    Rhetty I am going to say something I never said before on your site. Yuck,gross,ewwwwww, disgusting. That doctor was some kind of Dr. Frankenstein for sure. But what’s even worse (if that’s possible) is how excepting and equally ghoulish everybody else was. And I bet they considered themselves civilized.

    • @RhettyforHistory
      @RhettyforHistory  2 года назад

      It is gross and he should have never done that. We as a society put our trust in doctors and politicians to do the right thing for us. He did not do that. I don't feel the Dr Heath did either. I really don't feel either felt ashamed about. It's a story similar to Elmer McCurdy. Neither should have ever happened. Thank you for watching.

    Well , I will say there sure was some sick people back in those times ! It wasn't good enough to just kill a person for their crime, they had to hang them by the neck for entertainment and then make shoes out of their hide and cut their head off and remove the top of their scull out of curiosity and then pass it around for others to ponder ! Seems Kind of radical maybe !
