    If you disassemble RX100 there is a rubber seal between the lens and camera body that blocks the dust. Doing what the video shows will cause damage to the seal.

    I had exactly the same problem. All I had to do was just to loosen the side screws (2 left, 2 right) and the lens started to work normally. So, THANKS for your video.

    Exact same here! When I opened the camera it worked again. I was able to reproduce the lens issue by pressing on the large cable which is bent two times 180°. I put a folded paper inside the folded wire to smooth its angle, tried different thicknesses to be able to close the camera and now it works again!

      Problem is the cable band. Its like in Old car Radios with such cable bands. My cable Band was bend to 180° and therefore the Band was broken at some lines now after 12 years. No hope for repairing this. A new cable band would help.

      thank you!! I have revived my beloved Mark 1 that's been sitting in the drawer for many years. after a couple of times of removing the cover and screwing it back on and not knowing what was going on, your comment really solved my issue!

    Your the man, I had the same issue with my new Zv-1 camera that I have had about for over a year, did the same trick with the paper and boom shutter unstuck, I really appreciate the video you made otherwise my dumbass probably would have sent it in for repairs just cause I was scared to mess and open up a 500-600$ dollar camera and cause more damage! Life Saver!

      With the zv-1, if the lens is stuck, does the camera still turn on? I just bought a faulty one because I like repairs, the lens is stuck and it shows a flashing light under the battery door. I'm wondering if it is related, but they did also say it doesn't come with a battery, so I'm wondering if the red light is because they're powering with only a usb and no battery. Thanks in advance!

      @@_MJ07_ Sorry I just saw this but, My power and everything was working just fine, it gave me the symbol to turn off battery then turn on, It was just the lens I even heard a click sound when I got it unstuck. (in short yes the camera still turned on it was just that the lens unable to open made the system believe it was an error that could be fixed with a reset of turning off battery than off)

    • @billmurray1199
      @billmurray1199 Год назад

      Same issue here and indeed it resolved itself as soon as I opened it up. However, when closing it up it would throw that fault up as soon as I closed the two screws on right side. I could see that those screws brought the housing in a fraction of a mm and whatever difference that made it threw up the problem again and again. I opened it up, jiggled the lens module about to no avail. Eventually, I thought it must be a bad connection with the ribbons, but in all my messing about I cracked some of the lines to the display ribbon. Camera is a paperweight now, must decide wether to replace or not. I think tge underlying issue here was a cracked connection on a circuit and opening it up closed the circuit temporarily. Camera gave me 10 good years of service.

    I read an explanation on a forum that it has to do with the badly designed placement of the red and black cables at the bottom of the camera. So place those back carefully and try not to put too much pressure on them when you put them back.
    Thanks for the video either way!

    I may have found the solution.
    If u look at the cables.
    There 2 cables that are folded.
    One is for the LCD, the other is on the right lower side of the lense.
    I folded a small piece of a paper a few times, then put it in between the folded part, so that it wont fully folded once the back is closed.
    Now it works even with the back fully closed.

    there are three hall sensors that tell the camera the position of the lens. any dust or lint in one of the hall sensors will confuse the camera. as it will not know the position of lens.

    • @UberMicroRepairs
      @UberMicroRepairs 6 лет назад +2

      Hall sensors work from sensing a maget. Dust will not affect it.

    When sand or other debris gets inside the gap, this starts the problem. Stuck zoom lens has always been the achilles heel of sony point and shoot. Once u have this problem, it is down the drain. Mine got repaired but a year later the focus mechanism stopped working. Sony refused to repair it further since it is out of warranty.

      I did this and the problem reoccurs when you reassemble the camera. There is a broad flat cable on one side of the camera that is bent 180 degrees. Someone claimed this sharp bent and micro-wear in the cable was the issue. And indeed when I reassemble my camera, but leave out the two screws on the cables’ side, it works for me. The resulting gap in the frame I then taped off. Not pretty, but works :-)

      I had this problem too. I fixed it for now at least. First I tightened the bottom screws fairly hard. It still worked. Then I tightened the left side as well. Still working. But it quit working when I tightened the right hand side. When I loosened up the left hand side it worked again. I then tightened all other screws some more plus I tightened the left hand side ever so lightly. Worked! I then tightened the right bottom screw firmly and after that the top one. It still works now. The sequence may be different for you but at least here is something to try. Good luck!
