  • Sony Cybershot RX100 mark 1.
    Use a JIS00 crosshead screw driver to take off the button plastic cover then unscrew the 5 screw's on the side and open the camera from the back, take care of the little speaker and the 2 thin black and red wire, and specially TAKE CARE of the small blue flex cable and just take it out, it's NOT necessary to take off the other flex cable's .
    GENTLY peel off most of the black tape from the sensor board BUT TAKE CARE of the flex cable's !!!
    unscrew the 3 screw's and turn the sensor over so you have full access to clean with "Eclipse" and lens tissue or a "Visible Dust".

    Thanks! it saved me a lot of time and $100 for sending it for a lab to clean... I was little afraid to do that myself, but thanks to this video I knew where to be cautious. BTW - I didn't disconnected the cable on the right side - simply kept the cover at right angle with some box.

    Thanks a lot, I fixed my RX100 with a dust on the sensor, now it works like new.

    Thanks for making this video. I had a blob on the images on a RX100 it was to the bottom edge of the frame so I wasn't too concerned. If I had seen this video back then I could have cured it!

    Great video. I've had a large piece of dust on the sensor for ages, and virtually accepted that it's going to mean an expensive repair, or even replacing the camera, but I'm now going to DIY, as I already have a VD sensor cleaning kit.

    Thanks for this great tutorial, it is very encouraging. Just a question, what was the error that the camera showed on the screen that made you decide if cleaning the lens was the probable solution?

    Thanks for the video! It helped me to clean a bit of dust on the sensor of my RX100. It is such a great little camera, but I just couldn’t use it because of that blemish (particularly when I stopped it to f5 or more). Now it works just like new! Thanks so much!

    Great show with very detailed instructions. But it is too much work for me ! I will put my camera in the dishwasher and afterwards in the oven to dry it at low temperatur, 60°C in hotair oven, not microwave !
    It worked with the tv-set RC !

    Hello from Spain. Very interesting tutorial, thank you very much.
    Question... I recently dropped, from about 1mt and a half, my rx100. It was off, lens was retracted, and it was in its cushy bag/case. I've tested everything and it all seems to be working just fine. Except... The multipurpose aperture, focus, etc. ring in front of the camera, around the lens, became stiff. It still works, but it's uncomfortably stiff. Manual focus, out of the question. Any ideas how to return it to its silky smooth original state? Much appreciated.

    Hello, Great detailed video. Quick question, is it possible to replace the sensor with another rx100 version on sensors for example place in an rx100 mark 2 with the rx100 mark 1?

    • @mikeno62
      @mikeno62  6 лет назад +1

      Well Don, without knowing it, I'm not sure if it will work or not, at least the circuit board has to have the same connection from sensor to mainboard, and when change the sensor you will need the repair manual. But if it work's I think it would be a great camera, so give it a try Don :-)
      Cheers

    I heard you can just put a vacuum cleaner up to the lens and then let the lens open and close for a bit and it'll clean the dust

    any tips on a stiff control ring? mine was ok.. the ring is fine, works like a charm but half of the turn is too stiff and the other half is just normal. mine is a mk5 btw.

    Hi Mike! I was wondering if you could help me... my rx100v has a problem with the focus ring. It is not smooth, is somewhat bended... it goes from smooth to ultra Hard to smooth again and so on.
    Have you ever disassembled yours or know how to do so? The thing is that the ring alone costs about 30$ and I could replace it myself, but I've never seen a video of how to do that. Seems that it's not neccesary to dismount the rear part of the camera...
    Thank you so much Mike!!! Subscribed! 😊

      I had the same problem. I sprayed the tiniest amount of WD40 under the focus ring and it smoothed it out nicely. I feel the ring was dry and it felt a bit gritty. 4 years on and the ring is still good.

    I have a tiny Sony DSC-wx300 with the dust on sensor, or inside the lens. Vacuum cleaner doesn't work on it, could it be treated the same way, as RX 100?

    • @mikeno62
      @mikeno62  Год назад +3

      Many of those small digital cameras are in many ways made in the same way, but of course there are also diffences, you just have to be very careful with the sometimes very thin flexcables and sometimes it's also good to set, at least 2 marks around the sensor assembly, BEFORE you unscrew the sensor circuit board. Some cameras also have some thin spacers to make this adjustment of the sensor circuit board.

    is it possible to clean the sd card holder mine keeps saying it cant read the card i even got a brand new one and same thing im thinking i might have to clean it?

    • @Cekios
      @Cekios 6 лет назад +1

      First I would try clean the card holder buy blowing air, try and have a look and see if any damage, if its still not reading the card I would then take the camera apart and have a better look. but just focus on the card slot. thats where your problem lies.

    One thing is for sure: having a camera with a fixed lens is a bad investment on a long term. And I'm talking about much more expensive cameras as Ricoh GR, Fujifilm X100,S,T, F, X70, etc. because eventually, the dust will find a way to go on sensor. Regarding the easy access, durability and replacement, the film remains by far the best option especially for people without your great repairing skills..

    • @mikeno62
      @mikeno62  6 лет назад

      Thank's Peasant, ther's a good point about the use of fixed lens on a camera, but on the other hand it also good on vacation's, the bad thing is when the camera is broken (and the small camera is very easy broken because of very thin plastic and thin construction, specially in the lens...!).
      When I'm travelling, I always bring my Nikon D3s and some lenses, and another camera (Fuji X-M1 with some adaptors and old lenses)
      Cheers

    I had such a high hopes with this video! Right until when you peeled off that black thing covering the sensor, it was really uncomfortable to watch. Now I'm questionning my abilities to pull off this repair. On the other hand I have this disgusting speck on the sensor that's ruining all my videos. Though choice!

    • @Benzin0

      You could mask the rest of the camera with heat resistant tape and apply heat on the black film to help it come off. Just don't apply too much heat.
