Thank you! I have spent decades in canoes...stupidly have bought expensive sit on top and sit in kayaks in the past couple years - what a disappointment they all were. (No space like a canoe has!) And now... I want a 12 ft Jon!
@johntony6974 yep, 100%. Plus we got a couple grandkids that may want to go soon... nove to have a little extra room for hauling in bluegill.
Thank you! This video is one of the most important videos out there for helping us chose the right one! I wanted a 12 but now I know I need a 14+ ! Again thank you ( battery weight or out board says it all)
I've got a 1232 with a 9.9 hp outboard and 6 gallon fuel tank, it does real good
I literally wanted to show my fiance how stable a 12 foot flat bottom aluminum boat was and here you are jumping around in one for 8 minutes.
John vs kayak is apples to oranges man
Jon boat the only way to go.
Young Man THANK YOU FOR THIS... I have a big boat now I'm going to get a little one also!!!!!!!!!
I think a 12 or 14 foot Jon is one of the most versatile boats you can get, I hope you love yours cause I certainly love mine lol
They're pretty hard to sink. I've done some pretty sketchy stuff in my 16' but never been close to swamping it. I surfed some wakes. On one I thought for sure I was toast but boats want to float. The worst thing to do is weigh the front down. The first wave will wash in and the second one will swamp it. I had that happen in a canoe that had too much weight in the front. As long as the front comes up you're good. Now you could broach in the stern but I don't let that happen. Things have to get pretty bad to swamp a jon boat.
Great video, jon boats are great, my gf and I have a 1040 Lund, had a 1448, but easier to always use the smaller one, we both stand up and cast all the time. Will try a 1236 this year, Lowe makes a 1240 though, but hard to find.
You just answered the question I've been trying to figure out for weeks.
Impressive I feel even safer now in my 1444 Jon boat!!
This video answed every question ive been wondering for months now.
I like these Jon boats, definitely a great inexpensive option and well made. I do disagree they're better then a kayak unless you're not into kayaks or paddling. That's totally a personal opinion and not a fact.
Many fishing kayaks including mine are very similar in width, length and bouncy/stability. I can't forget to mention that fishing yaks have far better seats from factory and technically most sit on fishing yaks have more storage option since you have on top and inside storage space. You can stand and move around on both options, my yak also floats in only a few inches of water. Both options are very comparable in my opinion, although I do believe rough water is handled better on the kayak.
I feel both Job boats and Fishing Yaks are better then each other depending on personal preference. As long you love what you choose it's a great buy.
Good video and I enjoyed watching and hearing your reason for choosing the Job boat, I love Tracker stuff. :)
Sask Yak Fishing I like them more than kayaks for when I’m fishing with others
Liked the video, subbed. Flat bottom boats to me are more stable, that's why I build flat bottom boats, only difference is mine folds up and fits in bed of a truck with tailgate closed. My last one is 10' long, 4' wide.
The ART in WOODWORKING how do you get it to fold??
You should stand and practice blocks like sandafloor and paintdafence to improve balance
I am going to buy Jon 1040. It's good for carrying on the rack.
good video, being a kayak fisherman moving to jon boats this helped thanks
Year old comment I know but having done both, which do you like better?
Got the same boat built a front an back deck for it have 3hp pusher for it she will jump logs run through muck I have fell twice never over though thankfully me an the boat have pulled up many many fish I love it
Find a Jon length that you’re dead certain you & a buddy can load all your gear in and fish comfortably in THEN buy one two feet longer. It also cannot be too wide either.
Solid recommendation, but still need to consider where to store it and transportation. Thanks !
thepbw 2 ft. Shouldn’t break the bank.
I have a 16ft vhull for larger waters, the 1236 is my small boat for streams and smaller waters, where trailer isn't optional.
+thepbw if ya can't store the extra 2ft and haul that much more aluminum ya shouldn't get a boat at all
U.S.Slave that's kinda dumb. It all depends on what you fish for and where you fish. Many places I would much rather have a smaller boat. Something 2ft longer then what I want can make things more of a pain in the ass, especially if I'm by myself.
Thanks your video made my mind up on Jon Boats. Really helps.
+edd B no problem. What are you buying?
Please try out for the USA Men's gymnastic team. Awesome video and just the one I was looking for to help with my decession.
Funny stuff man!
I have 3 kayaks (one I can stand in but not jump around) and I am now going to add either a 1436, 1236 or a 1036 to the group.
Don't waste your money! Get an alumacraft 1442. Way better built and wayyyy more stable
@@luketilley9137 exept u cant launch a 1442 in smaller ponds.. u can have a lot of fun fishing smaller lakes where the expensive bass boats cant fish.. if u want to fish where bigger boats are get a 1442 atleast..
Im convinced, this will be my next boat project. Good demonstration!
Mr. Owl, if you have Facebook look up " tiny boat nation". It's loaded with people fixing up these smaller boats.
I got a 12 foot john boat a while ago, but it was one of the really narrow ones. I didnt realize and bought it, for a high price too. It's real tip easy.
V bottom probably
@@suavelifestyle9094 mines a flat bottom, but I modified it to where it's more stable
Even though I like Jon Boats, a proper fishing kayak is way more stable than a 1236. The only Jon that’s actually pretty stable is a 1440 or a 1448.
i agree 12 foot Jon is NOT stable unless you weigh 100 pounds lol
Or my 1244
Yeah I don’t have the balls for that here in Florida. Don’t get me wrong it looks nice and fun but I’m not taking a chance of falling off that thing with these gators. It really does suck that thing looks awesome
If you put both of your batteries in the center of the boat by the center seat, then your boat won’t be so close to the water’s edge whenever sitting down running your electric motor
A ft pedal kayak like Hobie Native Jackson 3k-4k New, a 10-12 ft Aluminum Jon boat with trolling motor cost only 600-1k
Thanks for the video. I'm considering purchasing a 12 footer r from Academy.
You got better balance than me…I’d be soaked by now.🤣
You think this would be good for potential flooding areas
Good job..an Thank you
I have the same boat
All good to know...
Same with my kayak i have a 30 #Minn kota and 35 amp hr 🔋 and when i have all mt stuff on the boat is dis places more water so it seems more stable but its just tigher but closer to tipping water in the boat.bettet is defined by the owner
My 12-44 fiberglass, modified V gamefisher is amazing. Rated for 14hp, so, gotta 15 two stroke on it. Yikes!!
Nice testing! Hopefully will be able to upgrade from my canoe one day
What kind of canoe you got?
Did you ever consider a plastic jon boat? I have a 12ft square stern fibreglass canoe w/trolling motor. Stable but would love stand up and move. Can see it in my vid: ruclips.net/video/3N1X-HY_V9g/видео.html
I had a 12ft coleman crawdad, two years ago. Pretty stable and you can stand up, but not as stable as the tracker 1236.
@@thepbw I have the Coleman scanoe and a 1236 Jon and the stability difference is insane
Should’ve tried both of your batteries in the middle of the boat where you put that single battery
Thank you for sharing
If I did that that boat would flip so fast! Lol
Stability is always width weight length priority in that order
Would be a nice rig to run around the marina early in the morning and fish and not too expensive either
Just picked up a 12 footer today. I'm 280 hope it works the same for me lol.
Don't try it. I'm 260
@@richh9904 I've got a 5-hp Nissan and a trolling motor I'm putting on the back where I sit do you think it will be all right? Going to try to run the battery up front if I can get some long enough cables
It looks like it would be easy to build a deck up front for that boat...
Great video 👍🏾
I keep reading how people claim these "topper" sized jons are tippy but this visual evidence sure says otherwise!
He is 130 lbs, I am 230 lbs
Yup im 275-280 i guess i need to work more on my balance ,i do have a flat bottom and it help alittle more with my weight.
He weighs 130 lbs. I weigh 235 and am 6'2 !! Do you think it will make a duh difference?
He's 160 lbs (300 less 140). It won't make a huge difference, unless you walk to the front of the boat.
10/4 1442 Alumacraft! Wayyy better boat and wayyy more stable for grown men like us!!!👍
I bought a small 53 CC 4 cycle motor. 23 LBS is a lot lighter than 3 batteries. If you're handy: 1. Move the flywheel keyshaft and retard the excessive advance. 2. Change the centrifugal clutch springs for much slower trolling. The motor is a Tomking TK144FC. $275 no tax no shipping. Aluminum prop.
Why not go electric.. lithium is cheap as dirt these days.. 200 bucks for a battery and ur done.. my battery weighs about 20 lbs.. does about the same as 3 old lead acids.. (probably even more). Have had the same battery for over 5 years..
@@larsvegas1505 Run all day? I don't think so. Most lithiums cost big bucks.
Should you consider your weight when purchasing this boat? My girlfriend and I will be the only users. I'm 172 she is a bit on the heavier side round 200. Thanks in advance.
Meanwhile me and my brother almost dumped our 10fter like 10 times last time we went out. looks good for an empty boat though.
Jon boat stability in a pond is fine... The stories I always heard about Jon's being unstable and flipping was in rivers where the water was flowing ...I'll further add that as long one knows that a Jon boat should never be anchored with the flow of water coming at it broad side the chances of flipping it are minimal also turning a Jon while under power should be done at idle as as the center of gravity changes in a turn ... Flowing water doesn't help either...in short if you use your Jon in flowing water ..familiarize yourself with the rules of operating a boat and if possible you your Jon in a pond ...also it worth noting that boaters in they're big high powered bass boats often don't give a flying fuck if they cause a person in a Jon boat to get flipped or capsized... My suggestion is stay far away from from the bigger boats
My Jon boat stays in a river and I’ve never felt unsafe using it
All i can say is tganks for stating the obvious, but how you get that on my Corolla and how far can i cary it?
Question... weight capacity... do not go over it or small amount? It's a worry to overload it, but a 450 lb weight capacity for two guys, motor, batteries, and gear is rough.
I have this boat. the capacity says 350 which I'm over by at lease 100 every time I take myself and another on it with gear. No problem.
How do they react to choppy water on a very large lake?
that my only reservation on getting a flat bottom, is like fishing big lakes for kokanee. do they make v-hull john boats?
I have the exact same boat and mine isnt even close to this stable. If I stand to one side just barely moving it damn near flips. I'm 190 and it was just me in the boat with a battery and trolling motor.
Aye do u know the weight limit on that i want to get on for me and my dog for duck hunting,
StalkerXkiller X you would be good man I got a 1542 now started with 10ft had me a two buddies in 10ft once and were big old boys lol lil tippy but gets job done
What’s the best price for this boat. I’m from Canada
Hello from west ky
The full dimensions of the boat .length, width, height.the width of the nose.please
So would a 12ftr be ok for 640lbs of people 3 of us me my wife and my son
yes pleny.. i go with 2 friends and the dog.. and they have stuff with them aswell.. But id get a 14 foot boat thats a bit wider if u have the room for it.. u can carry a 12 with 2 people.. its about 100lbs in weight.. thats the big thing about a 12.. u can put them in lakes with no ramp.. fish where no big boats go like a canoe... if u aiming for bigger lakes then get a bigger boat/v hull.
how to you think the 1036 would be might get one soon
It will be very similar to this video if the bottom is a true 36 inches wide. Thanks for watching..
Tippy
You look like a big guy as well, how much do you weigh ?
10 more batteries and it will be really good
And some yaks are 36 in wide
ithink it runs around 550,bass pro sells them
I want to know how these handle when another bigger boat comes by and sends a huge wake.
They Rock like crazy I been in that situation it's time to pull up your anchors and get out of harm's way I swear some big boats do it on purpose I've learned to fish Waters that the big boats can't get to and I stay off big lakes
I have a 16' and surfed wakes. They're hard to sink. As long as the front comes up when you hit a wake, you're good and on mine the front always comes up.
hello, what is the width of the boat at the front?
The more weight the greater draft
Look. Jon boats are nice. But not better than a kayak. They both have their places. But Jon boat isn't better. It's good for the weekend warriors or those who have injuries which won't allow them to paddle/pedal a kayak.
I agree both have their pros and cons I'm thinking about getting a kayak so I can get to spot's that my Jon boat can't get to
i thnk they are better for turning into a duck hunting boat rather than a kayak!
What size trolling motor
I would have been impressed if he would jump from side to side not just staying in the middle long ways
It's called jon boat but not jump boat! just kiding. but 1236 max weight capacity 480 lbs. if you want to test stability of it which you have to load to max weight then shake it or jump on it. you have three batteries total 180 lbs cause 60 lbs each, trolling motor 20 lbs and you160 lbs. so totally you have just 360 lbs which not heavy enoght to do the stability test!
Is the beam on this boat 36” or 4’4”?
It’s 36 inch
Can I try? I weigh 300 pounds. =0
all depend on your WEIGHT
You think you could put a 9.9 on there?
Daryl Gaskins Music definitely
What do you think of the Lowe 1040? Any disadvantages of it being so wide at he base?
It will be more stable.
Nope
sea game john boat best last long
10 foot pelican bass raider is still more stable
Patrick Ferguson exactly
I weigh over 25lbs. so that throws off the stability.
you know anything about old Mitchell boats ,like 14-16 '
Only if you have a trailer, something to tow, more money to spend
They're called car toppers for a reason.
I like how he stops cause he knows exactly one more hop will flop it over
I'm looking to get one of these on Craigslist, my budget is about $100.
You're not getting one for $100
@@urgey978 It's possible but it won't be in good condition.
I just found a 14 flat bottom with no leaks for 100 buck so you can do it just keep on eye out.
Would the 1236 be ok for two 250lb people?
Also what does that boat weigh?
It’s about 109 pounds, two 250 people I would get a 16 ft boat the gear ads another 100 pounds.
thepbw would it be ok for one 250lb person
Would be perfect.
Thanks bro.
No problem. Just think of a 12 ft jon boat as the most rugged version kayak!
How much of a difference would you see between this at 36” wide and a v-hull at 52” wide.
I have a 16ft v hull it’s more than 52 inches wide and it’s much more stable. I will make a video on it when the warmer weather comes around.
thepbw cool thanks
Yes there is a big difference I have a 1444 and my brother in law has a 1652 maybe it's 1654 but anyways we use his boat on bigger lakes and rivers
I have a 10 foot johnboat it came with decking on it it is extremely unstable if I remove the decking does anyone think That would help
is the decking sitting on top of the seats? if so, that's riding pretty high, and I bet removing the decking would help for stability.
Hell-On-Wheels Wild it was so I removed the deck and boat is stable enough for me 200lbs and my brother 250lbs plus electric motor n battery
Destoryed?
What size and brand Jon boat was that?
Tracker 1236.
Parkor of Jon boats.
do you work for tracker?
No I do not, but I have owned several trackers and jon boats.
Eddie Knox
How much is the boat cost?
Is there any where to buy from melaysia bintulu.
Don’t know to trust your STUDY. You said battery was on port side, clearly it’s on the starboard. Lol
Mistakes happen.
Fool you scared the fish
I would have liked you video but the music was very annoying.
a jon boat is better than a kayak and a yacht is better than a shrimping boat
You gonna build a deck?
Not this one. The 16ft Bluefin is my project with decking.
which is more stable, the boat or the owner. leave a like
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
