This song is fantastic. I prefer it more than Padam Padam. I genuinely think this song has the same power and impact as Padam Padam. In my opinion, the music video has some elements of ShowGirl, X era and Wow. I love it and it's one of my new Kylie favourites. Thanks Johnny!

She plays with her alter egos like in Did It Again and Never Too Late to see who takes control. My interpretation is that "real Kylie" and "Robotic Kylie" negotiate and agree to minimize "Showgirl Kylie" and maximize "AI/media Kylie". Then, the creative team's references to including symbols of Paris, Texas and Blade Runner 2049, is from a team that makes smart pop. She is one of the last bastions of living pop as we know it, and she has the formula of the diva that is always reborn.

Everyone saying the same - 2 listens or more and it’s fabulous! The video is the best she’s done for 20 years no question. She’s got a renewed confidence about her and moved beyond the soft/girly/flowing frocks look she’s peddled for the last decade. This is definitely going to reach beyond her fan base like Padam did but for completely different reasons
I also think this is a clear thread with a connection between each video. The Padam video featured some sets, such as the motel room from the Disco era, this has the same motel room and now some other worldly place. Don’t be surprised if we see some of these ‘personas’ in future work. Hopefully the showgirl! She looks absolutely stunning throughout. Even when singing about ‘touch me right there’ and grabbing her own ass, she’s somehow the epitome of class! God love her

It’s definitely not as immediate as Padam, more a grower, but I am into it! Pretty bonkers like 3 songs in one and a bonkers video to match. Lots of ways to interpret the video and lots going on so loads of replay value. Thanks for pointing out the blue light at the start pulsing with the beat I never noticed that. The opening shot looks like dark Kylie is inside a brain and is in command. She looks a bit like Astrid that Kylie played in Dr Who and it looks a lot like inside the Tardis. Sweet innocent Kylie enters the “box” (too on the nose? 😁) maybe on a journey of “self discovery” She looks very Maria in Sound of Music. Enters into a derelict room with a smashed disco ball (end of Disco era?) Glitter Kylie starts dancing under the command of dark Kylie (comment on Music Industry?) Pink Kylie starts copying her moves. Pink Kylie in hotel room direct reference from Paris, Texas. Also similar room to Padam and Dancing. When she pushes away from vanity to start dancing, possible reference to Crystalize video. On the nose reference to touch me right there - visual of thumb pushing up and down on wheel 🫣 Glitter Kylie coming out of screen and being giant reference to Giving You Up video. Showgirl Kylie (past era and maybe Vegas residency ref) at the table it looks like they are having a battle and Pink Kylie is fighting back much to the surprise of dark Kylie and seems to take some control. Different Kylie’s reference to Did It Again and Confide In Me. Could be the Kylie’s are different facets of her personality. Lots of Kylie’s at the end could be reference to Your Disco Needs You video. At the end she leaves as a mixture of them all.

Amazing how the parts of the song stand alone, restrained rather than thin or missing anything, and then come together for a huge sound that remains incredibly clean, no muddy overkill. And the video... wow. What a pleasure to see and hear what very talented people can do.

  • @mjb78
    @mjb78 10 месяцев назад +10

I don’t want this comment to get deleted, so I’ll just say that I think this song is about “self love” lol. Button down Kylie goes into this experience, which is run by a more hedonistic Kylie. Which leads her down a rabbit hole of self discovery. I don’t know every Kylie era, but there’s definitely some callbacks, as well as the film references you mentioned. Great track, not as immediate as Padam but still super fun and bonkers ✌️

There is no rivalry at all in the video to me personally. I think it’s meant to be camp. I interpret all the different Kylie’s as references to her career. The feather one is her light years tour, the disco red head is from the song your disco needs you, the screen with the eyes is confide in me, the machine Kylie is from Put yourself in my place esthetically combined with I think X. There is so much in this. The background of the mirror shot with the pink Kylie is from padam :))

Just watched the video a couple of times it has to be kylie and all her incarnations and gaining experience from them all and coming out the otherside 🤷🏻‍♂️ 80s, X era, the glittery effect is disco with the strobe light of say something... Learning the dance moves of the giant kylie, 'dancing' in the hotel room, showgirl, video gives nod to 'your disco needs you' she sings lalalala in the song, its cleverer than we think.... i think 😅

  • @ElectroFunkNinja

It's definitely a grower. However, I felt the same with Padam Padam it took me a couple of listens to get into this new era. With this one after the 2nd listen totally hooked! It does build the tension and when it releases it in the final 3rd it's just so epic! Just listening to the lyrics, and the way black and white kylie is rubbing the button on the top of that joystick, it's clearly as others have said about achieving pleasure by ones own hand, cough, that's why she's glowing at the end, :P. It's delivered it typical classy Kylie fashion as despite that the entire package is not overtly sexual.

This hooks you immediately with the house piano riff at the start, this is gonna be a massive club track,I think she is going back in this video through her eras the different Kylie's are like her video for Did It Again and the show girl I think is a nod to her Vegas residency it made me think of Madonna with bitch I'm Madonna with Kylie naming herself in the song there are references to the film Metropolis and Blade runner in this video,I love that the same hotel room in the Padam video is also in this video and shots of Padam red are also in this video this is instantly iconic and with some great remixes this will be a surefire club banger do excited for the new album (Matt)p.s I think that dance move where she grabs her own bottom is a reference to spinning around and those fanous gold hot pants

    1) The tiny yellow figure on the table seems to be her "Vegas showgirl" look. 2) The deck's controls say "Touch Here." Cute. 3) Is fuschia Kylie's hotel room the same setting as the 'Golden' cover? 4) The sparkly Kylie character appears in a cavernous room with a broken disco ball shattered on the floor. A reference to 'Disco'?

  • @SE16minge

Re the video, i think she is referencing her different recent eras. When she is dancing in the red dress in the hotel room its a throwback to the Dancing video (check it you will see what i mean)... the glittery Kylie is a throwbacknto the Say Something video. I think its just a clever follow up to the Padam video where her devil side is coming out and she is wanting to shag that guy in the club. Clever reference. Great video

This is a battle between Real Kylie (Pink jumper) and Kylie Jenner (Dark Kylie). She's having an identity crisis and Dark Kylie is trying to manipulate and take control, but she's imbued with the confidence of the giant Kylie, which is her public persona, and by the end of the video Dark Kylie is spinning out of control as the multiple Kylie's enforce Real Kylie's standing as a global icon. In the final scene she is walking away triumphant with Public Kylie shimmering within her.

I'm actually surprised that nobody mentioned the meaning behind the lyric she sings @ the beginning of the second verse, "Call me Kylie-ie-ie, don't imitate, tate, tate..." is a direct reference/jab @ Kylie Jenner who had the audacity to try and ©️ opyright the name KYLIE the year prior (although it was most likely due to naivete on her behalf). Regardless it was extremely insulting considering Miss Minogue had been making top notch pop/dance music for decades upon decades and shattering records along the way. My only hope is that Jenner got to at least hear this song and took it as an EFF U! She's not the only Kylie in this world!!!!

I totally agree with others on here, this track needs a few listens to get it, but I can honestly say I think this must be one of the most infectious dance tracks I've heard for a very long time.

To me, the whole music video concept does seem confusing.
Someone shared that the pink Jumper Kylie look was inspired by Paris, Texas, a film released in 1984.
You could tell the setting also represents it too. (Red phone, vanity mirror etc)

I actually thought your initial prediction was spot on. It may not be quite as instantly catchy as Padam but as a whole it is a better song. To me at least.
I mean for starters unlike Padam it is a full-blown song and she doesn't cater to the TicTokers as much. I actually love that.

The Kylie reference could be Kylie Jenner who wanted to trademark it. The minx there’s only one Kylie😅😅😅😅😅

To me it sounds like a track left off her X album. It's ok but I don't get why people are raving about it!

i think there's quite a lot of cinematic references in this video, apart from the blade runner 2049 hologram her pink jumper outfit is a reference to nastassja kinski in paris texas and the whole premise/style (with the green screened silhouettes flying around the screen and the giant screen) reminds me a lot of twin peaks the return

There are multiple Kylie's in her video for Did It Again. The ass grab is probably in reference to her Spinning Around video. I'll leave you to view both

I bloody love this. It took me a few goes myself to throw off the doubts but just let them go. Wow this is a banger. And as for the video in my head it is a kind of more sexualised, personally transformative journey of Kylie being manipulated (all be it willingly) by the man behind the curtain! With an alien twist.

This is gonna be one of her biggest albums ever. She is back on top like she is literally about to replace Lady Gaga as queen of the gays with this album.

Pretty sure the video is about prim and proper Kylie going to this place and the white-haired lady in black is the mastermind and is controlling the red-haired projected image (and doing the voice for it) to offer something to Kylie to make her cooler. That's my take on it. You can see Kylie dancing at the bottom of the screen when the chorus drops. She came here to change.

I agree it's a grower. If I overanalyse, the whole song is about herself. The line I'm Kylie, don't imitate would read as self-assurance; along the lines of "I've been doing this for 40 years, and I know what I want" and the tension that breaks is her doubts about the musical direction. The video and the against different Kylies bring "Did it again" to mind; you have a showgirl, a sweet, a club, and a sexy Kylie vying for attention, but they aren't fighting this time.

could also be a reference to her legal battle over the name kylie which she won
