You’re so lucky to be discovering Bjork for the first time. Homogenic is a gorgeous album, and Vespertine is my personal favorite. Bjork’s Homogenic was an inspiration to Radiohead, and Thom Yorke loves the song Unravel off of that album.
Homogenic is one of the best albums ever made imo. It was so ahead of its time. The electronic beats on it were literally like 20 years ahead of the curve lol
Post is like Radiohead’s “The Bends.” Great with hints of whats to come. Its follow up is amazing too. For me, I prefer Vespertine and Vulnicura. The music and lyrics are incredible. The first is about the euphoria of beginning a relationship while the later is about the same relationships dissolution.
Welcome to the bjork world ! She’s my favourite artist along with Radiohead and PJ Harvey! You should react to the Homogenic album next ;-) (and maybe listen to Debut before and keep going chronologically) so excited to watch you !
I'm a lover of Rush, Led Zep, Supertramp, CSN, Fleetwood Mac, etc etc and a lot of folk-ish, Gordon Lightfoot, Denver, Dillan, Indigo Girls, but also, I just love ... Bjork! She just crushes it every time. So unique. So creative. So magical.
I'm so glad you gave her a chance and kept an open mind to her unique sounds. If you are keen to keep discovering more of her music try Homogenic, which is probably her most critically acclaimed album. I believe it was a major influence for Kid A. I would also suggest listening to Vespertine, which is more intimate sounding, but for me it gives most listeners an idea of why she is a brilliant composer, writer and producer.
Same Bjork album I started with, and it seems to have worked its magic yet again! It ended up my 4th or 5th favorite or hers, but I wouldn't have been ready for Homogenic, Vespertine, or later albums if I hadn't heard Post first. Bjork is a genius!
Loving this reaction! To argue your point in ENJOY. The lyrics are devastating and discordant, the orchestra hit every 7 and a half beats is really cool but is designed to throw you off. Your first reaction to it is to be thrown and you were. Anecdotally; it took me a couple listens and then time to realise that 7.5beat hit and “Enjoyyyyyyuhhhh😩” The OutKast instrumental of this is insane and was on repeat through my entire 20s
Thank you for listening to this. I'd forgotten how much I absolutely loved this album, listened to it A LOT when it came out. Very special. Will be re-visiting it!
Glad you reacted to this!!! I love the variety on this album and how futuristic everything sounds, especially for a project that came out in 1995. And of course there’s a good reason why tracks like Army of Me and Hyperballad are some of her most popular tracks. They’re amazing!!!
Ironically, Björk's debut solo album (if you ignore the Icelandic folk song album she released when 12 years old, anyway) was titled "Debut". Björk's sound is eclectic and erratic. She has such a diverse catalog that fans have said that if you don't like Björk songs, you just haven't heard them all yet. She makes music to match moods she wants to evoke, and has been compiling a wide array of moods since her early years. EDIT TO ADD: the "It's Oh So Quiet" track sounds so classically big band because it was originally a traditionally produced big band track; it is a cover of the German song "Und jetzt ist es still" from 1948, with English and French rewrites coming a few years later. Björk did such a smash with it that it's perhaps her biggest hit even today (in the sense of having achieved the widest and highest chart rankings of anything she's produced to date, if I'm not mistaken).
Jack! You need to finish the Radiohead saga with A Moon Shaped Pool. It's my personal favorite, the most mature and well-rounded in terms of sound for the band. I really think you'll love the sounds and spaces they create with tons of emotional, electronic, orchestral, and rock instrumentation. It's the best of all worlds IMO. Do check it out!
Don’t worry mate I will 100% get there They are now one of my fav bands and there is no way I’m gonna miss the chance to check out more of their work Just have so many albums to work through but dw it will come eventually Appreciate your patience You getting hype gets me hype
super cool to see more bjork reactions. her entire discography is so incredibly rich and varied. truly a one of a kind talent who is wholly her own artist. homogenic, the album that followed this one, marked a pretty huge shift in her sound and is my personal favorite.
Bjork is such a brilliant artist and musician, she infused her music with so many genres and styles, while always bringing her unique take to it all. Post is a phenomenal album, and she followed it up with my absolute favourite album ever, Homogenic.
I fell in loooooove with this Icelandic beauty with their album Debut. Yes, I was listening to Venus as a Boy, but Come to Me was the track that hooked me forever. Post is so fun to listen to because it's so experimental && my favorite track is Isobel. Reiterating what others are sharing, it's refreshing to see you explore so many different sounds, Jack. I was listening to Freudian from Daniel Caesar after your recent reaction to their latest project. Homogenic is the album that will hit you in all the fkn feels && the fkn music videos. Björk is a fkn legend. Always ahead of their time. Depending on my mood, I listen to a different album of theirs. Vespertine is also very beautiful. Medúlla is a gem! It's known for being an album that has little instruments except for the voice. Give it a try!
I cannot wait to check out more from her This album was so wild in all the good ways Loved the kid A vibes So awesome you were listening to Freudian That album is so special to me, very nostalgic Has been fun jumping from genre to genre keeps me and the viewers on their toes haha
@@cavemanjack it is exciting to watch you explore music. Freudian is beautiful && unsurprisingly, it's their eponymous track at the end that hits me in ALL the feels
whats amazing is she made this album without a sampler, sequencer or synth. all the sounds and loops are her building tone generators from electronics parts or taking a snipit of recorded sound, loops same thing made by her using a cassette recorder and splicing the tapes by hand and running them over the playback head. its an electronica album built entirely in analog.
Ok, you have to listen to the other two in her masterpiece triefcta: Homogenic next, then Vespertine. With Post, they're widely considered her three best albums.
One really fun thing to contrast is the production on the first 3 albums versus the rest. They are more pristine mixes. But with matmos on board, the sound became more organic with microscopic ripples.
These strings throughout the album are the work of Eumir Deodato, famous Brazilian composer who Bjork asked to work either her after she fell in love with Milton Nascimento’s album Travessia
Great reaction to one of my very favorite album of Bjork. Post takes you to a journey to the unimaginable world of Bjork. I would like you to go with her first album Debut, then Post, then go to her amazing 3rd album Homogenic to experience how she musically grew with a lightening speed and expanded like a big ban.
It's Oh So quiet is a cover song. Bjork likes to play with discordant sounds. I've noticed how a lot of her melodies etc sound discordant yet can be happy. It's very different to typical pop songs which are almost always "happy" in sound. Saw a video the other day talking about how she used Locrian scale for Army of Me. Isobel and Hyperballad are the highlights of the album for me. If you do listen to Homogenic, Bachelorette is considered the "sequel" to Isobel (watch the music video for it too).
Comment 2: please do the discography, she gets more and more out there and experimental as time goes and she is the true definition of that generational icon who gets comments like “I enjoyed her earlier stuff” “her stuff as a teen in the band was better than her solo” “I love her solo but prefer her newer stuff” etc etc
You should check out kate bush's the dreaming and hounds of love she's one of the very first pioneers of artpop (which is this genre basically there's lots of exploring to do)
Too enjoy "Isobel" even more, check out the Deodato Mix by Eumir Deodato, who arranged the original strings, and Björks's former bandmate Sigtryggur Baldursson from The Sugarcubes on drums. They take the song to a whole new level, much more organic.
This , Post, was her 2nd Solo album (1995) . Her Solo Debut album was aptly titled Debut,😉. I highly recommend listening to her discography in chronological order. It will Simultaneously Blow your Mind & Break Your Heart. For reference this album was the Ascension of her Electronics/Glitch/Deep Bass /Synths , All precisely woven together with classical instruments. She writes, arranges, composes the majority of all her works. P.s. Bjork also makes the most Amazing & Visually Alluring and Shocking Music Videos to fully Tell her story. Oh also Great job 👍 and your quick Kid A reference is Spot On. This album ,Post, but more importantly her 3rd album , Homogenic (1997) was the Inspiration for Radiohead's Kid A and the change in their sound.
My top five Bjork songs: Hyperballad, Hunter, Pagan Poetry, Frosti, Crystalline (Omar Souleyman Remix). My top five Bjork videos: Army of Me, Bachelorette, All is full of love, Wanderlust, The Gate.
Bjork is basically female Radiohead lol. You will not be disappointed trust me on this. Btw, please don’t forget to react to A Moon Shaped Pool. Thanks
the songs are recorded over a great deal of time, debut and post are kinda all over the place because she already had these ideas, lyrics and chords etc. way before she recorded them, thats why they sound "disjointed"
you should go back to check out debut!! i actually prefer its stripped back sound and its a lot of fun. Björk is one of my favourite artists and i think shes made a lot of great stuff with my favourites being homogenic, vulnicura and medúlla

Very exited and lucky to check out bjork for the first time ! Keen to check out more from her !
it’s actually his favorite song and they even said their sound for kid a was them trying to replicate the feelings björks homogenic invoked in them
Homogenic is one of the best albums ever made imo. It was so ahead of its time. The electronic beats on it were literally like 20 years ahead of the curve lol
The remarkable guitar in the chorus of Radiohead's 'Lucky' is strongly inspired by Björk's 'Isobel'
you NEED to do Homogenic and Vespertine by Björk!!!
Vespertine is trash
Post is like Radiohead’s “The Bends.” Great with hints of whats to come. Its follow up is amazing too. For me, I prefer Vespertine and Vulnicura. The music and lyrics are incredible. The first is about the euphoria of beginning a relationship while the later is about the same relationships dissolution.
She's her own genre
I'd start with "Debut" but man there's so much to discover here.. Each album has magnificence
Don't forget Gling Glo which came before Debut.
And not to forget Björk's previous band 'The Sugarcubes' :)
Welcome to the bjork world ! She’s my favourite artist along with Radiohead and PJ Harvey!
You should react to the Homogenic album next ;-) (and maybe listen to Debut before and keep going chronologically) so excited to watch you !
I reckon I’ll go back to debut
Sounds like she has quite the amazing journey through her discography
Bjork is a force of nature from another dimension.
Possibly Maybe is so stunning. I love how warm yet haunting it sounds.
Yes, yes, yes. Bjork and Fiona Apple were two of my first loves growing up.
So magical.

She made a feature length movie, Dancer in the Dark. It's a sad story but the acting and singing and dancing is great.
Her voice! When it cracks with emotion! So in love.... ♥

Thanks. "enjoy" is the reason I fell in love with her music at the time it came out. It's still my fave.
You should listen to homogenic or vespertine by bjork next! Both are 10/10 albums for me !
First album I ever bought when I was 10. One of the best bjork albums. She's a legend. Hyperballed and headphones are my faves
I envy your first album!
Mine is soooo embarrassing…
Such a beautiful album
Great reaction! I also love how intimate her vocals can be - no matter what the musical environment is. She's legendary!
Makes me feel so old that people are just now discovering Bjork
Thank you for listening to this. I'd forgotten how much I absolutely loved this album, listened to it A LOT when it came out. Very special. Will be re-visiting it!
My pleasure!
This was the first cd I bought with my own money (must've been in 1998 when I was like 11 or 12). Still love it :D
Me too, first CD i Bought and still love it!!!! I'm from Costa Rica
yeahhhhhhh!!!! we finally got here!!! thank you!!!!!
we will all enjoy this journey for sure
Please React to Homogenic by Björk, simply one of the most influential albums of all time, amazing production
"I'm not sure what her sound is" , i think it's easier to say what ISN'T her sound haha. Bjork is such an eclectic artist
Glad you reacted to this!!! I love the variety on this album and how futuristic everything sounds, especially for a project that came out in 1995. And of course there’s a good reason why tracks like Army of Me and Hyperballad are some of her most popular tracks. They’re amazing!!!
Homogenic it's a masterpiece of electronic music, praised by the critics and the public. We need your reaction, I loved this video!!
Just go forward from here.
Please do more. You won't regret it.
My wife and I were going to name our first born daughter Isobel.
We had two boys :(
If you love those minimal soundscapes you're going to LOVE vespertine
Sounds like vespertine would be up your alley. Bjork is such a boss
Vespertine Vespertine Vespertine!!
I hope you continue with the Björk chronology ❤️ Her albums are very different from each other, I love her
post is my fav björk record i know most ppl would choose Vespertine but every song on this album bangs to me.

Yeah I completely agree with this. Don't be put off if you don't like The King of Limbs, a lot don't. A Moon Shaped Pool is beautiful.

The music video to this is really good.

Honestly unreal !
This is making me want to see you react to Arca!
why did watching this make me emotional?!! lol.. youre in for a treat if you do the rest of her discography
Enjoy was coproduced with Tricky. This dark disjointed sound is very much his hallmark, at least, in my opinion😊
