    Hasselblad X2D 100C at SDP.io/X2D
    Hasselblad 28mm f/4 at SDP.io/H28
    Tony & Chelsea Northrup review the Hasselblad 28mm f/4 lens, which is a 22mm f/3.2 equivalent prime lens. It's the perfect walking around/general photography lens, and combined with Hasselblad's 100 megapixel medium format mirrorless camera, you can do DEEP crops, allowing it to function like a more versatile zoom lens.
    Tony & Chelsea review it for design, handling, sharpness, contrast, flaring, bokeh, and portraits. They also demonstrate how the 1/4000" leaf shutter is superior to a traditional focal plane shutter. This is really a camera review and a lens review all-in-one.

    Interesting video. I would suggest when you compare the two pictures side by side in the minute 9:03, you would postprocess the Hasselblad one so you can show in real life how much dynamic range of the picture you can recover. For example, just brightening the shadows would show a much more comparable picture to the Nikon one. Thats just my suggestion, you could do more if you want of course.

    I had a flash-related question with the X2D but I think you confirmed my thoughts…. I shoot sony, with sony-centric flashpoint strobes (many!). I also use the Sony-branded Flashpoint R2 wireless trigger.. IF I purchase a Nikon-branded Flashpoint R2 trigger CAN I mount the Nikon-R2 trigger to the X2d and fire my Sony-centric Flashpoint strobes?? I don’t want to buy into a different flash system; love the Flashpoint system.

    Nice vid
    FYI - Max sync speed of Z9 is 1/200 not 1/160th and there is also 1/250 TTL FP (which deploys a slightly different flash process). The same can be said for the A1 when using electronic shutter and full frame (obviously the A1 offers faster sync speed shooting crop mode or using the mechanical shutter.
    Clearly Tony if you bought better strobes than the "lousy cheap" Godox you used (unless it was the AD600 series -- and yes I do mean Profoto or Broncolor strobes) then you would not have "suffered" the lack of flash power issue you did using the leaf shutter (and yes obviously no speed light can deliver the power to support such shutter speeds - not even the 76Ws A10) - a B10X or D2 (in studio) with 500Ws and 100Ws can. You loose 2 stops with the light modifier you used as well and could easily have moved the light closer or changed to a more reflective and less diffuse modifier, with obvious downsides; but ok. Point made. One can freeze action/movement with 1/4000th that one can most certainly not using HSS or 1/200th or even 1/400th
    It would be interesting to see if the X2D or any of your other cameras suffer banding when using HSS at 1/2000th or faster and your godox.
    What is "interesting" to me at least as an owner of an X2D-100C and most XCD lenses (including the 4/28P as soon as it arrives) is the fact that Hasselblad appears to have "fixed" whatever the issue was with the new shutter design that it can be deployed and deployed cheaply in a new lens like the 4/28P, while we are still YET to see the first delivery of the 2.5/90V -- launched over a year ago but plagued by "not good enough for Hasselblad to release".
    Lots of pathetic rumours that DJI is dumbing down H and the X series in particular, that we have not seen what other V or P lenses will be coming and endless complaint that H has not delivered promised firmware that allows LV while tethering OR hoped for features like continuous AutoFocus (because this is why we are buying the new V and P lenses -- they autofocus faster (albeit in single AF mode only currently)

    • @andreasstolten9179
      @andreasstolten9179 Год назад

      I assume that the issue of reduced flash power at fast shutter speeds is not due to flash duration but due to lag of the wireless transmitter (so called "propagagation time"). At least at low flash powers = fast flash durations). Do you have more details about this? At what shutter speeds to you see a reduction of flash power? (At what flash duration?) And yes: I also do not understand why the 2.5/90mmV ist delayed so much.

    In the brief exposure to the Hasselblad camera I see it as a studio and portrait specific camera. I am impressed with the crisp and detailed photos this camera takes, along with the crop ability, and retaining the sharp image. If Sony had a medium format camera with a 100mp sensor, it would take photos in the same caliber of presentation as the Hasselblad camera. Each camera is designed for its purpose. I have not ever encountered the bubble bokeh until I have viewed this video, if it is the effect you are going for awesome! The Hasselblad has its strengths, however it also has its limitations.

      There are some scenarios where you will see a difference and many where you will not see a difference. However I think making it about simply technical image quality misses the point of the Hasselblad system. Every time you pick up the camera, you feel the differences in the thoughtful, minimalist design.
      Driving a car isn't always about simply getting from point A to point B. Sometimes, a car's design can be beautiful. The sound of the engine can be inspiring. The feel of the materials can be luxury.
      Photography, for most, is not just about capturing beauty but also experiencing beauty.

    SSD NAND storage is a part that wears out depending on how much you write to it additionally to the general aging of electronic components. Sure hope that Hasselblad doesn’t use the very same user-accessible SSD as the location for their camera operating system.

      @TonyAndChelsea  Год назад +2

      I'm sure the OS is on separate flash memory the same way their previous cameras without internal storage worked. But computers and phones use similar storage for their OS's and we don't see constant storage failures from them.

      @@TonyAndChelsea Apple’s latest MacBook Pro models have moved their basic EFI firmware (the stuff that manages everything from the moment the system powers on even before the regular operating system) from being on a separate chip to the general user-accessible SSD. When the SSD NAND fails the MacBook can be thrown into the trash, unlike earlier you can’t boot off external storage since the basic EFI firmware is then gone, too. Disgusting electronics design.
      Wouldn’t be surprised if other manufacturers made similar cost-cutting decisions, too - “The SSD is in there anyway, why not just use it just by itself to save space on the logic board and cut cost at the same time?”

    Those flares, the bokeh, the smearing are atrocious. I think we can stop sucking up to hasselblad (or leica for that matter) and labelling every piece of crap lens with its aberrations as "character". You know what characteristic people who pay 10k for fashion items want? Perfection, inside and out. I dont believe for a second any of those are "desirable". Apologist nonsense for a 1700usd lens.

    what kind of flash are you using , looks expensive but works like shit , i use Yongnuo 658 i think , and i can perfectly use it in high speed sync , so i can get things done on Canon 5D classic . I think its not the camera its your bad or not utilized properly flash , i really doubt it cant do the same thing it done on Husselblad on nikon , shit it can with chinese flash and 5D classic , how cheaper can you go and it all works fine no problems what so ever , except that i usually forget to put it in high speed and i get overexposed shots , until i figure out what's wrong . I think this is your sale thing on Huselblud and i really do hate those phase detect pixels , its juts looks bad , pretty much ruins all your photos for landscape where you have sun in front or strong light , yeah you can correct everything in post even blown out sky you can replace it , and you can shift the color cast and make skin look good even in that picture . But i dont see the point , for1 my clients dont need more then 2 mpix , or 4 mpix . Everyone is on their phone or printing small 6by4 inches prints or smaller . And even with 5D classic there is plenty detail there . And yes it has better 3D effect then Husselblad , a lot better , but you can downsample the image from Husselblad to 12mpix and get that pop , or most of it , but then why have 100mpix , i cant figure it out , cant imagine one scenario where you need it even if your picture needs to cover a sky scraper , people are going to look at it from far , so 12mpix is still good enough , i watched magnum photographers work , no they dont need 100 megapixel nor such a big camera . And i would hate processing 100mpix , that takes time .

    Hi from Finland = in between sweden and russia often invaded by both, not really scandinavian. I really like many of your videos but this one is a full on commercial. • @HR-wd6cw

    Well, it does seem that the MF camera market is heating up between Hasselblad and Fuji at least. Which is good for consumers because I think the two will drive prices down in a race to the bottom so to speak. With bodies costing $5000 to $10,000 that's a bit more feasible than what they used to be (like some of the PhaseOne models, which could easily cost $15k or more for the body). So this in a way is good news, but still far too expensive for my tastes (and probably most people's) as it seems FF is still a very good option for 90% of people out there.

    • @TonyAndChelsea
      @TonyAndChelsea  Год назад +2

      Hasselblad is a luxury brand so I don't see it becoming commoditized and devalued... Any more than Rolls Royce and Bentley have driven prices down. The Fuji medium format cameras actually feel terrible in the hands, IMO. The menu systems are archaic and overly complex.
      Does that change the images? No, but for many photography is more about the journey than the results.

    • @HR-wd6cw
      @HR-wd6cw Год назад

      @@TonyAndChelsea I'm not saying it was going to be. It's just become more affordable to the masses than it used to be, which is a good thing in a way. I, at least, don't see that as devaluing in any way. MF is still considered a "premium" format regardless of the actual price to get into it, in many people's minds.

    My question is why Mr. Northrup picked up Nikon Z9 to make the comparison with Hassleblad medium format cam? As you are a Canon or Sony lover why stops you tell the same thing that fullframe Canon R5 or Sony A1 portraits do not look as professional as Hassleblad one. Will they stop paying you money for bashing Canon or Sony fullframe cams? Seeing this I can 100% say that you are biased reviewers

      The Z9's sync speed is 1/160, the R5's sync speed is 1/250 (with e-1st curtain), and the a1's sync speed is 1/400 (mechanical shutter). The Z9 is the weakest of the high-res flagships in this area and that made the function of the leaf shutter easier to demonstrate.

    • @cse0355
      @cse0355 Год назад +1

      I don't think it's completely correct statement that nikon z9's max sync speed is 1/160s. It should have been said as the default sync speed for Z9, however it could be tweaked in the settings menu to set it to 1/250s also as far as I know. So terming it as weakest of the competition I don't think would be the right statement.
