The mystery surrounding actual Kholat is extremely interesting, and what I've seen so far regarding this game makes me very excited to see how it might be pursued from an interactive fiction standpoint.
Real horror should be derived from a fear of the unknown. As long as this game isn't filled with cheap jump-scares and capitalizes on the already impressive environment on display here, I'm hoping to be impressed.

Night darkness, freezing cold and fearful forest. The atmosphere is perfect, the music is perfect, the horror elements are perfect. It is one of the best horror games in my opinion.

Still, I have to admit, this looks a LOT more thoughtful than Falldown 4. Maybe I'll buy it. At least it's not being sold by Bullshit Softwerks... oops I meant Bethesda....

I think they should have added a yeti because it's one of the theories to the mystery and probably would have been much more scary as you see it in the distance and it stalks you and gets ever so close so the more time you waste the closer you come to a inevitable death

По словам разработчиков, следователь сможет свободно передвигаться по горе, используя карту и компас. При этом никаких монстров там не планируется и единственное, что будет угрожать герою, это холод.
Как не странно я пал от руки монстра в пещере с водопадами. Темная тень в виде прямоходящего существа типа раскалилась и напала на меня)

I liked from begining the idea of game on this story,I'm dissapointed that what I see game is turned into ghosts,monsters and magic mystic powers. I hoped for real horror but I see game that is scary for children 12 AGE rating :( :(

Lemme tell you about this game,but before that I must also say that I finished it and I knew what I was getting myself into,or at least I thought so,meaning that I knew this was going to be an adventure game with no action in it.So to put it shortly this game is bad,how bad? well for those 20 bucks is as bad as you can get,I hope so at least.The atmosphere is really creepy,it keeps you on edge,especially at the beginning,then after your first encounter it fades away,the mechanics are there,somehow,but not entirely developed(e.g. there's a section where you gotta hide in a closet,but that's about it with hiding,I mean you can crouch but it's not effective,not as sprinting anyway),the story,which is supposed to be it's core feature,is sometimes kinda interesting and sometimes kinda not so,if you read the pages,cuz yeah...pages,new stuff huh,you may get involved and start to care about the story and wish to find the truth,well good luck with that,the ending was like this:

The game is not even worth 5 bucks at PSN sale,i want my money back.And re-name the game in "Pathfinder Beginners guide:How to Use a map with a Kompass "That isnt fun,its the type of realism that kills a game.There is nothing of value in the Game,no Rewards.Why should i learn real navigation?I have a fucking smartphone with Internet !
I take it that you probably didn't like Dear Esther either...but granted the developers could have labeled this as a walking simulator from the beginning.
Would I pay for the game right now at the full price of $20? No, the most I'd give is half that amount knowing now what I know about that game.
Still you have to think about the fact that your in the middle of an icy wilderness, so it's not like having a phone would make much of a difference. The only thing you'd be able to use would be the pre-built/downloaded tools on it which can include a compass and map; things the game already gives you with some other tools which to the best of my understanding wouldn't exactly be helpful where there's probably not anybody around for miles.
It supposed to be a frustrating experience trying to navigate. If you knew where you were the whole time, sure you'd have a better getting around but then you'd lose the dimension of being lost and not knowing whether or not your safe.
Without this basic component of psychological horror, one that fits very well with the setting, it probably wouldn't be nearly as good as it is at delivering its "stuck in the mountains I don't where to go and I think something's chasing me" brand of horror.
Basically what I'm saying is that the realism adds to the game and doesn't detract from it as much as you would think. Sure it's less "fun", but is a horror game based on a true incident supposed to be purely just fun?
Unless you equate innocent fun with what is genuinely scary I don't think so.
As for my opinion on the game as a whole, I think it's a good experience that probably could have handled its own horror a bit better, having its moments of terror feel less scripted and more organic.

This game is a big fucking Pewdiebait walking simulator.
I could only take about 20 minutes of it. Labeled as a horror game, I think not. It builds zero tension. You start the game as an unknown character who is literally plopped in the middle of an abandoned town for no reason. (Watch the beginning and you'll see what I mean.)
You basically run around aimlessly the whole time. When you get to big orange thing that picks up some rocks, don't look at it for too long or too closely otherwise you get a jump scare with zero context as to why or what the monster scaring you even is. From there you will get to the first monsters who also have no context to them and are also just plopped in the map for no discernible reason.
Changing the key bindings doesn't work either so if you are left handed like me don't bother.
Torrent it. Try it out free first, you probably wont like it.
Chase H Do you even know the story of Kholat wich is a real story of 9 person who died of an unknown power this is a real story, go take some info on this story and last thing if you played 20 minutes of the game it's only the first part there is nothing here they just set you up for what's coming next.
