I’m glad people like his work, but the comparisons of his work being on par or exceeding the excellent hand-drawn artistry of the many 90’s anime are either intentionally misleading or from a place of ignorance from someone who is probably too young to have seen the better work from the 90’s that they are comparing it too. Or old enough and desensitized enough to what excellent animation looks like to have forgotten.
Reference Cyber City Oedo 808 or Ninja Scroll for two of many example of better works that that perhaps inspires these computer drawn images in the video.
The styling, while similar, is definitely not the same and is drastically different in some ways (character movement). Which makes the comparison even more odd to the 90’s anime.
The degree to which the different style appeals to your personal preference and is as good or better in your subjective experience is great for you.
The degree to which you want to compare it to the anime of the 90’s according to the styling of 90’s anime….it’s not comparable…or it’s objectively worse.

Which is what it does in the first film. There's a few instances where it more or less acts with disinterest towards the crew because it can just bide it's time and kill them at it's leisure. It gives it a very malevolent unsettling feeling that isn't really matched by the some of the later more animalistic depictions where it's scuttling around like a rabid dog.
The fact that it moves with purpose more like a serial killer than an animal is what makes it extra terrifying.

Love how this gives a unique spin on the original Alien movie. There isn't an apparent villain aboard, like an Android, who sold the crew out as test subjects for the xenomorph. I expected the AI to be behind it, that it was hiding something from her when it recited the cargo log for example, but when it complied with self-destruct, I realised it really just had no idea, and it must have been some third party that screwed these people over.
It avoids openly naming a villain, which I think benefits this greatly.

@@Jedzelex Overall it's more 80's, but the character designs might lean more 90's with the larger eyes and pointed noses. They remind me of Yoshiaki Kawajiri's later work like Ninja Scroll. Although tbh there's not a huge difference between 80's and 90's anime aesthetic, lol.

I'll gladly compare this to Redline, because it's a labor of love and done excellently.

But I just want to point out how awesome it is that not only there is no sound during the scene with Ashlin in vacuum, other than her own breathing and subtle vibrations you would hear in such an environment. Not only is it a nice attention to detail, but shows that you can absolutely use such an environment to add suspense and unease to the viewer by the very lack of sound.
