- How does the iPhone 11 Pro video compare to the Panasonic Lumix GH5 4K video? The iPhone 11 Pro has amazing 4K video quality. I've always thought the GH5 mirrorless camera has excellent video quality.
In this video, I compare the iPhone video and Mirrorless camera video. I run video comparisons in 4K 60fps, 4K 24fps and HD 120 upscaled to 4K. In the last sequence, I add a simple color grade to the 4K 60 to see how that holds up on both the iPhone and GH5. Color grading the iPhone 11 Pro video footage can be tricky because of the saturated colors but I think it held up pretty well. Could the iPhone 11 Pro be a full-time RUclips content camera?

Caleb, I'm trying to stay away from big gimbals, I shoot interior real estate video walkthroughs, What would you suggest? should I use iphone 11 with osmo 3 gimble for ease of use??

i think the iphone would work really well on the osmo 3 for something like real estate. if you want a smooth shot a gimbal is a must have
Thanks for this. was helpful. Watched on computer with good graphics. Both look good to me. I am a Gh5 owner. Being able to put ND filters on with mist filters on the Gh5 is a big plus for me for b-roll. I use the iphone for filming myself as I walk along talking. The gh5 is too big and heavy for me to do that. So both cameras have their place. It has taken a long time for me to figure all of this out but am excited to start doing more videos again soon. I plan to use the Gh5 a lot more.
Yeah I would say I have a ND on 95% of the time when I’m outside even if it’s cloudy sometimes. I didn’t for this video so thankfully we had a super cloudy day. I agree both cameras have their place! It’s crazy knowing the quality of video we can have right in our pocket! Enjoy the GH5!
Great video man. Been using the iPhone 11 Pro for some video work and although it's been good, I've been desperate to get my hands on a camera and this has helped my decision on the Gh5, massively. I watched on 2020 MacBook Pro and the difference was very noticeable. iPhone shots look great, but a little too sharp and saturated, quite artificial compared to the beautiful colours and depth of field on the GH5. Yeah I definitely can't complain about what the iPhone is putting out! It's cool knowing I always have awesome 4K right out of my pocket.
I feel that the very obvious difference between the two is the depth of field and the dynamic range. Amazing video quality for the both of them though! Loved this comparison! Were you just using the native camera app?
yeah just native camera app. it would be interesting to test other filming apps tho and see how those perform.

@@CalebHoover Dude I am still trying to figure it out as well. I am terrible at titles. Another big deal is Thumbnails and I am also terrible at those. I keep trying to learn.

Yeah i was using nat color profile and using 4K 8bit. I thought that might be a better comparison than the 10bit. I might be wrong tho 🤷♂️

Damn the iPhone 11 has better dynamic range 😂 but of course the bigger sensor of the GH5 gives a better image and depth of field.. but for real those camera companies gotta step up their software game. The work that Apple is doing to make that tiny sensor have that great image and that amazing dynamic range, is insane. If apple made a super 35 or full-frame camera right now, they would kill every other camera company honestly.

almost all in the iphone is digital, i mean, the dynamic range really is"live edition" not really dynamic range. so, is digital as if you edit the vídeo in lightroom, the format is not RAW
Fantastic video, I watched on an iPhone XR, in my opinion both videos had a great cinematic look and feel, I did see a bit more detail from the iPone. I’m trying to go the other way however , I want sharper more realistic videos; would I be able to record GoPro quality videos on a GH5? Thank you very much for a great video.
the gh5 can get pretty sharp especially with some olympus lenses. i feel like those run sharp
the thing is, this video is shot at 4K, iphone can only reproduce 1080p...this video looks way better on a 4k screen..

I actually think smart phones are annoying for shooting but I have the new iphone 11 (not pro) and that wide angle is actually quite lovely. This video does make me think wow that iphone is handling it, but I still find smart phones too restrictive for your main shooting device.
Yeah I would have a hard time using it as a full time camera for content. It's nice having at a moments notice tho!
Watching on 21" desktop monitor. I thought the iPhone destroyed the GH5 although the GH5 in 10bit and color graded hopefully pulls ahead. Also, iPhones digital sharpness probably benefits from being dialed back a bit. Also, iPhone 12 Pro now able to shoot in ProRes and 10bit. i feel like the GH5/MFT would not be worth investing. I'm thinking iPhone 12 Pro Max and later maybe A7C and both focused on video not stills. Good video thx for testing un ordinary non-cinema places vs golden hr at the beach.

Interchangeable lens cameras offer lens choice, unlike current smartphone cameras. I sold my Panasonic 12-35mm lens after getting hooked on prime lenses with better image quality.

@@CalebHoover I much prefer to not have to switch lenses but my want for better image quality outweighs the convenience. On one occasion, I took pictures with my smartphone during a walk and was annoyed when I got home to not see the image quality I've come to expect, so I ended up going back with my ILC + prime lens to redo it. Things changed after I bought my first prime lens. I was happily fine with my zoom lens until then. Things actually changed when I got my first high quality ILC - before that, I was fine with smartphone pictures.
Great attempt. However, some takes are misleading because the GH5 is not in focus and there is no comparison with low light. Thanks anyway
GH5 is definitely softer but I don't think too much was out of focus. I had no intention of comparing low light with this video. That might be a future video tho! I'm glad you checked it out Best of Life!
I prefer the GH5. It has a more filmic look. The iPhone looks more digitally enhanced.
Yeah I agree. The iPhone has a really great image but there is something about it that makes it look different and that might be it

Just add a mist lens on it and you have the best film like footage you can get. It’s all
About lens ... if you want a super cinematic footage, apply filmconvert or film grain with some correction...
Do not see a problem in using iPhone as a main camera . End result is the only thing that matters

IPhone 11 pro looks more like those Sony TVs in the showroom kinda look. Gh5 is more cinematic.. Hands down

As amazing as the iPhone is, I'm still planning on buying a GH5s. I have an iPhone with Filmic Pro downloaded on it, but even with the added features it still doesn't have the robust feature set and smooth film look as a proper camera.
Same, I film with my iPhone native app. It's a good camera, but it has too much sharpness. And no depth of field. Pluw low light is meh.
I can hardly wait for November 6 to pre order iPhone 12 Pro Max.
I have a BMP4kCC but its cumbersome and has no inbuilt image stabilisation so I have to use the Ronin S Gimbal - way too much to carry around- but great for low budget films, the GH5 wins hands down when it comes to just about everything bar audio and image quality over the Bm4KPCC and image stabilisation on the GH5 is gimbal like or even better. A great thing is that I can use the same lenses on the BMP4KCC and the GH5. I also use use the inexpensive ZHYIUN Smooth with the Iphone 11 Pro 11 and it has great Image stabilisation for under $150 and performs some great special effects such as vertigo. If you want to get into filmmaking without breaking the bank upgrade your phone to the Iphone Pro 11 , buy the ZHYIUN Gimbal and you will get a very decent pictures and video. All in all, I love the image quality from the Iphone 11 Pro, its sharp and bright and has great saturation - to me it looks great straight out of the camera and you can get Vlog etc if you need, and when using the camera and video apps the Iphone competes extremely well with the elite cameras with very expensive lenses. I have seen some very nice film noir scenes shot on the Iphone 11 as well. All in all none of these cameras are quite good enough for A roll for film for Netflix etc, but they could all be used for B roll and get away with it. So unless you want to get into the big league and learn how to build decent rigs you may as well use an Iphone 11 Pro or a GH5 because in the long run they are cheaper and produce similar results. By the way the BMP4kCC is not a pro standard photography stills camera. If your into stills use the Iphone 11 or if you cant afford the GH5 use it because of how easy it is to use, but remember the GH5 is definitely not the best stills cam but its still pro quality - it is however a top quality low budget professional video camera .

I could never use the iPhone 11 Pro over the GH5 for the simple reason that you can't get a depth of field on the iPhone or other smartphone cameras. Sure the iPhone has an amazing dynamic range, but because everything near and far is in focus simultaneously, it makes the images appear more flat and because of that they have an artificial video feel instead of a natural film feel.
yeah having that depth of field that having a proper lens and camera setup brings just can't compete. if we're in a pinch tho, it's nice to be able to just pull that iPhone out.

Watching on a computer. Felt like you had a more dynamic range and detail out of the GH5 vs the iPhone. The footage looked better once you graded it. I agree it was overly sharp. I would also say that the stabilization was a little shaky on the iPhone but hand holding that lite Phone it is to be expected. Very impressive overall that phones can even get close to a GH5.....crazy. Cool video though. This one should do very well.
