I thought the DJI Avata is an awesome overall FPV drone for chase. This was great practice and I hope to fly with the RC pilots again in the future! Next time I'll try to get a tighter follow. Please let me know what you think in the comments!

The Avata is a SUPER fun drone and a great drone for learning FPV (especially if you are coming from a DJI drone) The ability to be able to brake and switch in and out of Manual mode mid-flight is invaluable.
I'm a professional videographer and engineer working in broadcast, pro sports, and film. Experienced with drones but new to FPV. Learning with the DJI Avata and posting tips along the way.
I highly recommend getting confident in the SIM before you go out and fly for the first time.

Is it GOOD for chasing? No! 🙂
But it can do better than shown in the video.
It very much helps to stand close to the plane pilot and ask him to keep talking about what he is doing next. That helps a lot, especially, when it is not just cruising at slow speed and soft turns. Depending on the speed, but if the plane is slow it helps to stay underneath it or at the same level. If it is fast from above.

This was my first attempt at chasing and ideally I'd like to fly closer. And communicating with the pilot would be key. Why isn't the avata a good chase drone? Cheers

@@WoolyProductions in fairness to the Avata I haven't flown it yet myself. But the two main reasons for my "no" were that it has to little power to escape and catch up, and it has problems in hard split-s manoeuvres.
But I didn't want to discourage you! Keep training with such a slow plane, that gives good experience and overall control.
Guess you are flying with the controller, not the stick?
