2019 Ducati Panigale V4 S Review | MC Commute

  • When it comes to superbikes, no one does it like Ducati. Case in point, its new red-hot (both figuratively and literally) Panigale V4 S. The Panigale V4 S is Ducati’s top-shelf, 190-hp road-legal sportbike that’s engineered for experienced riders who want to smear Pirelli rubber on the road and track.
    --
It’s powered by Ducati’s recently engineered 1,103cc V-4 engine that was engineered using its vast MotoGP experience. In typical Italian fashion, the engine delivers an exhilarating experience like few other motorcycles made. It’s paired to an electronics package that is near the top of the class with a re-engineered chassis that is vastly more competent than the 1199/1299. Together, it’s the ideal recipe for eating miles of asphalt.
But don’t take our word for it; watch the Ducati Panigale V4 S in action as we ride to the Motorcyclist office in Southern California. Make sure to leave us a comment and share with us your thoughts on Ducati’s latest and greatest sportbike.

Panigale wasn't really build to be used for commute.
Got my friend V4R for a month as a lease to test it and damn it didn't took me 2 weeks before I return the bugger back to him back ache, palm and shoulder hurt the most but its a fun bike.
Also its not highly suggested to use this bugger in time of summer due to its nut cracking hot wind blowing.

Nobody wants to admit it... but how good a bike looks IS important... and that bike looks GOOD. As much as I love wheelies... that little head wiggle when you land with the front pointed a bit off is definitely pucker inducing... steering damper is your friend.

    Good review.
Only thing i would say is that the heat is actually not that bad. 1299 was way worse than this thing. Ive been riding mine during the summer down under and its not too bad as people make it out to be. But you have to know what your in for when you buy this.
I guess depending on your size i actually find it more comfortable than the s1000rr. Heaps of leg room on this thing especially if your a taller rider.
On the street its very tamed when you put it into other modes such as sport and street.
But yes agreed on the point that this at first a track bike. Thats where this things feels at home the most

Camrides, the riding position on my 4S is actually not all that bad. I have some room but it is still "tucked". It has this great EC 2.0 dynamic suspension that is obviously rubbish for the street. I have no idea what you mean by calibration from Ohlins, the suspension is always going to be calibrated by the manufacturer based on the bike. It sounds like its set to track or sport by default, so a manual adjustment for preload etc.. based on the weight of the rider etc... is always going to give the best results and for street use, Road settings for suspension are not just more comfortable, but safer.

As an owner everything that Adam said here I agree with.....my experience is very similar to his...although at a much lower rider skill level! I laughed when I saw him struggling to find the kickstand lever, this is VERY common on the V4 and one of my favorite mods is to install an extended kickstand "bar", makes it much easier to find. Also, he mentioned the HEAT this thing puts out. I just would not recommend this machine as a commuter or "one and only" motorcycle. It is a second motorcycle, particularly if you're going to track or just keep it as a weekender. Even at that if you've been riding a while and need to stop at a light or stop sign, your gonna cook.
Neutral is very easy to find if you pop it in just as you're rolling up to a stop. A lot less easy to find when you are already stopped, my opinion.

Had a '19 R1M, and the Ohlins shocks were amazing! Made this track beast livable with on the road, other than it got hot if you didn't ride her hard. Thes V4 Panigale look beautiful though.
NOt sure that I like that he did a "street commuting" revie on track mode.... again, from my experience with the Ohlins supension on my Yammy, having that on Dynamic made potholes and bumps smooth. Also, From what I've been of Ducati's, Street and Sport mode have plenty of power, and they smooth out the throtle response...
Again, wish he woudl have tried the rider modes and talk about the difference, Not all of us are Macho gusy who need to have 100% of a superbike on the road...

Thanks for the review. I do like this new Duc v4 and considering a purchase very soon. One aspect of quality that confounds me: all of the v4's that I have seen have misaligned subframe on the left hand side. That is, the black subframe seems to be fractionally too wide where it meets the silver main frame. Why? The heat problem appears to cook the quickshifter and sidestand relays - 2 years and still not addressed by Ducati. And seems to be a consensus among track riders that front springs are too soft and the rear too hard. You didn't seem to find this for road use? Laughed when you hit the rough road mid commentary - "Jesus!". 😊

To my knowledge for my model year '18 there have been something like 8 recalls. Some are relatively serious but many are small tweaks. That IS a lot, granted. I don't want to make excuses for them but it was the first model year and I guess we can allow some new release issues. But, can't argue that 5-8 recalls is quite a lot.

It must be the desmodromic valves that create all the heat. Other manufacturers have v-engines and L-engines but ducatis are always so hot. I have watched dozens of ducati reviews and thats a constant theme. It has to be the valvetrain. But ducati will not abandon desmodromic valves no matter what. Personally i rather have a monster or streetfighter than this bike. In fact i plan on buying a monster this year. But if i was wealthy and did track days often i would buy this bike.

A couple of suggestions on the Commute Reviews: We don't need to hear all the specifications, we can read that from written reviews or the manufacturers website. What I want to hear is more of how it feels to ride, how it compares to other bikes, how well the controls work, if you could ride it daily etc, things you can't really tell from a short demo ride. (and some bikes you cannot get a demo ride on). Also, 29 minutes is a long time to commit to a video, a little editing would make it more watchable and I would watch more of your videos.

  • @c138599

It's a wierd thing - and I haven't seen it discussed anywhere - but Ducati made a lot of fuss about how their V4 sounds like a twin due to the firing order or phasing they have adopted. And yet compared to the Aprilia which literally "sings" the Ducati sound is flat. It's not good really. I'm more interested to know if Ducati has achieved performance gains through this initiative but I haven't heard anybody talk about what the unusual phasing contributes to the power and torque curves, or tractability perhaps. Surely it isn't just about preserving the "twin" sound to appease the twin-crazed Ducati purists (with respect)?
