It hit me hard with rambutan (the red hairy fruit). You just need to twist it to peel it open. Im pretty disappointed that Aki rank it pretty low in the list since it is one of my fav fruit... xD
Tips for eating Rambutan: Peel all the fruits, then put the pulp in a container and keep it in the fridge for at least 2 hours (overnight better). Eating cold peeled Rambutan IS HEAVEN!!
I think you should retry starfruit and ciku, Probably ones that are more ripe or the right one. Starfruits when good is sweet and sour with lots of juice, while ciku has a very aromatic smell when it is really good. The reason of why I say this is that you may not have had the good ones.
Something interesting that I found out throughout my life: 1. Starfruit - if you sprinkle a little bit of salt and rub on it, it will taste different. But if you just like that when it is very ripe (almost light orange colour), it is quite sweet and it is good for the heart. (cholesterol fighter if not mistaken) 2. Dragon fruit - If you eat like half to 1 dragon fruit (without blending), the seeds will actually cleanse out your bowel, the corners in your bowel that might be hard to clean out. To me it is a cleansing fruit. 3. Rambutan comes with season. The one you had that is a bit green at the "hairy area" means it is not 100% ripe yet. Choose the ones that are all red. It will have a very fragrant and juicy sweet taste. (but remember to drink water. It can be a little dry for the throat) 4. Buah Salak, the snake type fruit. I don't 100% like it either haha. The rest are simply delicious. And Passion Fruit is full of Vit C and I think good for people with gout (?) according to local fruit sellers. (Another small facts about papayas. The papaya tree that bears fruit, the leaf's juice it self can help built platelet if for dengue patients. It is SUPER BITTER, but super effective)
Buah Tampoi, rambai, bambangan, beruas, kemunting, senduduk, chempedak, buah kulim, limau bali, bidara, buah setar, buah remia(gemia), buah merapuh, buah nipah etc etc
All those grassy, tasteless fruits like starfruits and kedondong usually be eaten with 'cicah' like 'kuah rojak', 'asam ko' or 'asam belacan'. Try it, aki! Oh, by typing this already makes my mouth waters😂
The camera work is astonishing. The editing is even better. Really professional work. Aki improved acting skill is shown in this video too when he ate the papaya. Can't be, Aki have not eaten a papaya before, papaya seed?. Great acting. Here are a few more fruits that are planned in our gardens, common Malaysia fruits. 1. Guava (Jambu Batu) 2. Jambu Air 3. Custard Apple (Nona) 4. Soursop (Durian Belanda) 5. Jackfruit (Nangka) 6. Mulberry - Can't purchase this, pluck and eat from your garden. A lot of people do not get to taste this fruit because it is not commercialised.
Hi, I'm from Malaysia. The hairy fruit is called rambutan. The name came from the word rambut which is translated to "hair". There is also one fruit that look alike rambutan which is pulasan. If you have chance to try it, you can just get the flesh by twisting the shell.
The video was well shot - sound & lighting was excellent. The opening 30 second segment was especially impressive. Don’t worry about not cutting the fruits the way locals would do it, as long as you enjoy eating them!
I really like this style of video, its very clean, the way you edit the fruits between the cuts allow us to see what it looks like. Your explaination is very clear. Amazing work Aki
More common Malaysian fruits for you to try : Manggis, duku, langsat, rambai, pulasan, buah Nona, durian belanda, cempedak, nangka, jambu air, jambu Batu, kuini, mata kucing, and my favorite : buah kundang.
Most of the fruits like mango, starfuite and kedondong we ate with side source, like mixture of soy sauce, sugar and salt or add chilli and belacan. This is how we enjoy the fruits
For unripe starfruit, young mango and kedondong, we Malaysian usually dip those fruits in rojak buah gravy or mixture of sugar, soy sauce ketchup and cili padi.
At Malaysia you can buy fruits like snacks/junk food. I remember when I was I high school (like 6 years ago), I used to eat rojak buah (fruit mix) almost everyday and eat with spicy sauce. The price is RM1.00 (~25 yen) maybe
Aki, for the start fruit, if you want to make it delicious, u need to make a special dip ; mix together a few cili padi, 1 teaspoon of sugar, soy sauce and a bit of dark sou sauce. With this, you can eat 2 star fruits.
That 30 seconds early in the video is advertisement worthy, nice editing, good video angle, good timing, good shading, i bet it took you atleast two days to take those shots.
I am always love domestic fruits... Durian, bananas(pisang) passion fruit(markisa), dragon fruit (buah naga), mango(mangga), rambutans, cempedak, jackfruits(nangka)
people who eat starfruit for the first time always says it tastes like nothing or really sour, actually if you get the right starfruit or maybe if you eat more it is very juicy and sweet, I used to order starfruit drink every chance i got when i came to Malaysia because it was so yummy ;)
Eat the "kedondong" with "rojak" sauce.market shelves selling rojak sauce or 'DIY' at home...ingredients mixture of shrimp paste, dark soya, chilli paste ,sugar lastly some toast 'belacan".
The way the video is edited and the color hue makes it look like high in production. You should definitely do more food review like this in the future!

Nice video and the way aki described the fruit is pretty much precise. But where is my favourite fruit longan, durian and mangosteen?😂 Suggest you might need a cup of plain water intermittently in order to get the oringal taste , cause often I can't taste mango after having longan as one sweetness superseded the others.
You can also eat kedondong with soysauce and add sugar into the it. im afraid you'll add inaccurate amount that is needed but you still can try it aki. Thank you so much for your love and support you show for Malaysia!
I like the way the fruits are edited. Looks beautiful. Anddd salak (the snake skin) is one of my favourite! Maybe because you're not used to it, it might not catch your heart yet. If you're lucky, you can eat the sweet ones. I also recommend you to try the salad pickles. The tastiest pickles ever! Papaya pickles and mango pickles are delicious too! But don't eat them frequently. hahaha
You seem to do a better job in promoting Malaysian food, what more this video about local fruits than our Ministry of Tourism. You can definitely be our food ambassador.
Aki please do another series of Malaysian fruit! Another fruit you can try out later is buah mata kucing, mangosteen, jackfruit, jambu batu & pulasan. 😊

If the fruit has other colour than green, it means that the other is the ripe one. Like the starfruit, look for the yellow ones instead next time as the midori one can be quite sour. Just like the mango green cousin, mempelam. We use them to make fruit pickle or just eat it by itself when we crave sour things. Also store do have the unripe one (midori) just in case you don't want to eat it immediately. Can leave it on the table counter to let it ripe 👍🏼. Fruit101
wowww..you make a beautiful b-roll of Malaysia fruit. so nice. If you love mango I bet you will love to eat mango called "harum manis". The best mango in Malaysia.
