Movie Summary:
In Virginia, high school football is a way of life, an institution revered, each game celebrated more lavishly than Christmas, each playoff distinguished more grandly than any national holiday. And with such recognition, comes powerful emotions. In 1971 high school football was everything to the people of Alexandria. But when the local school board was forced to integrate an all black school with an all white school, the very foundation of football's great tradition was put to the test.

Yo I Appreciate The Collab! Much Love.
Of course my boy ! If you ever have another one in mind ! I’m all ears ! 💪🏽
Seems like it might have to be training day 👀
Denzel Washington and Russel Crow. Super 90s but killer (when overlooking the graphics) is Virtuosity. Not dropping trailer just to keep curiosity
First time checking this channel out because of Mel's repost of his collab with yall. Will definitely be subscribing for more videos from you!
We need that Training day collab.
Definitely NEED THAT TRAINING DAY COLLAB!!!!!!!!
As the daughter of a 35 year high school football coach, I stan with Hayden pacing in the stands every game 😆😆 Always loved this movie.
Lol you were literally her ! Dope lol
Same here every game football season is the time where I need to be alone and watch the game
This is arguably the greatest sports movie of all time
No argument there, easily the best.
@@Seraphis1911 over rocky? over raging bull? over the fighter? I think not
@@Henry-fn1zw Yes
@@MySkybreaker then watch more movies
Definitely the best soundtrack, imo anyway.
The scene with Petey getting mad at Sunshine at the bar is more nuanced. Sunshine came from California where I guess he saw less openly racial discrimination. Petey didn't want his high to be ruined by racist BS and was trying to warn sunshine the bar wasn't going to let them eat there. But Sunshine in his ignorance thought he knew best because he can't fathom people being so openly bigoted (even though it's in their face everyday). The others were trying to get Petey to calm down and not take his anger out on Sunshine, but you can't fault Petey for being upset when he tried to educate him.
Facts
Frfr he literally warned him before they got in there
That scene annoyed the heck out of me. Petey was pissed that he was not accepted but he totally missed the entire fact that Sunshine was also rejected.
@@jeanb.5405Who cares? The whole situation would’ve been avoided had listened to Peter in the first place, which is the point.
The entire reason Sunshine wasn’t admitted was bc he was hanging with the Black players in the first place, so him not being allowed in by proxy is just a moot point.
This is literally happening now. Where Black people are trying to educate white people on how deep racism is. Petey was trying to educate Sunshine.
@@jeanb.5405but it was the only time for Sunshine. Petey and the other boys dealt with it every day. Sunshine meant well but he should have listened
We shot this movie in the fall of 1999. When I first read the script I thought it was a typical TV movie of the week story where everybody overcomes their preconceived prejudices and lives happily ever after. Apparently Denzel thought the same thing because he wasn't too happy about having to play this part. But his contract was signed and even though between takes he was obviously not thrilled, as soon as the director called action, Denzel snapped into character like a total pro. He gave it everything and his performance and those of his co-stars, helped lift the script to another level. It's great to see how talented actors can transform a project.
That's awesome! Were you a part of the film making process?
Shut up you didn’t have anything to do with the movie😂😂
Eddie Evans was in the camera department of the film and has 95 credits, including The Blind Side.
@@n2essence I was the Key Grip for Remember the Titans. We shot around Atlanta and on the campus of Berry College in North Georgia.
Did you guys actually film in VA?
Man on Fire is, I think, one of Denzel's best films. It also shows the amazing acting of a young Dakota Fanning. Unbeatable when it comes to child actors.
Great movie!
"Now, I ain’t saying that I’m perfect, ’cause I’m not. And I ain’t gonna never be. None of us are. But we have won every single game we have played till now. So this team is perfect. We stepped out on that field that way tonight. And, uh, if it’s all the same to you, Coach Boone, that’s how we want to leave it." I can't ever hear or recite this quote without getting goosebumps. Wood Harris' delivery of it is, well, perfect!
"Before we reach for hate, we always remember the Titans."
21:33 I think Petey was upset because he tried to tell Sunshine that things were different than CA and they wouldn't be welcomed there aka it would be dangerous - which it was lol. Obviously he knew Sunshine didn't mean them any true harm, he was just angry that he didn't listen and lashed out.
Exactly. I'm not sure how they didn't get that.
The movie with Keanu Reeves that Mel is referring to is The Replacements I’d live to see either of you react to it.
Facts.
One of my favorites of all time. Such an underrated movie.
The bar fight and leave my quarterback alone scene was golden
Another great, very underrated movie
Facts!
Sunshine doesnt know anything about this stuff, so him challenging the guy could've gotten the black players killed immediately. Petey's reaction was spot on.
This movie was a staple at my high school. It was a football school and everytime a class decided to watch a movie it was this one. you could count on seeing it at least twice a semester and it's still just as good as the first time.
"I used to put frogs in my pockets…" "I wouldn’t say that’s weird, I’d say that’s crazy…!" 🤣🤣
First time I saw the Gettysburg scene, I immediately thought of Denzel’s role in Glory. That is a great movie.
Remember the Titans, John Q and American Gangster as well as Philadelphia, are such good movies and if you want to see another will patton movie, Armageddon is another good one
I feel like one of the best lines in the movie got glossed over since y'all were talking about Julius's "I'm gonna get mine" comment
Bertier: "That's the worst attitude I ever heard"
Julius: "Attitude reflect leadership, captain."
That, in combination with the trek to Gettysburg battlefield in the next scene is just the turning point of the movie and so powerful.
Denzel Washington is a legend. A true icon. One of the greatest actors (black or white) of his generation. I definitely think his acting surpasses Will Smith.
Yeah def can’t argue with that at all just saying Will is my FAVORITE actor.. but that may be true sure
No offense to Will, but he doesn't belong on the same tier as Denzel.
@@blacksunday4231agreed
@@mrflickswatchesI can't get past WS stupia## character Fresh Prince with that goofy laugh.gtfoh
Will Smith is no where near Denzel Washington
"Petey" aka Donald Faison actually had a great career as the amazing "Turk" on the hit TV show "Scrubs". He was brilliant as a surgeon on that show, which was hilarious for almost a decade. This is definitely a top 3 performance of Denzel. I really enjoyed this reaction.
I remember reading that the casting of Bertier was eerily spot on for everyone who knew the real person. And that Bertier really was just a good-hearted, solid young man. Disney made this movie, but I think they did a great job not fully sugarcoating the characters. We saw their flaws, and we saw them have growth.
I'm really happy to have come across this reaction. I saw this movie in theaters with my parents. My senior class watched it on a bus en route to Obama's first inauguration. It's been in my top 3 for decades now. I'm glad you've seen it now and enjoyed it.
If you want a good Denzel Washington movie you definitely have to watch John Q, based on a true story
Thinking of that one too !
just saw your comment, I agree on John Q, them going blind to it would be a good one
Facts.
That is a HARD movie to watch. Especially for parents. But is a phenomenal movie that's SERIOUSLY underrated.
The scene of the guys trying to go to the bar def went over your heads. They told Sunshine what the deal was, but he thought he knew different than the guys who have lived there all of their lives. He even told then to trust him and that it would be fine. Petey, Rev and the other guy would have NEVER subjected themselves to that blatant racism, humiliation, and rejection...but Sunshine's mouth wrote them a check that his ass could not cash. He put them in a dangerous situation because he too arrogant in his assumption that he could control the situation.
A lot of scenes went over their head...the guy who was their guest isn't as smart as he tries to portray
Remember the little girl is the one who’s telling the story. She made herself a shining piece.
I don't watch Football or know any of the rules in the game, I'm not white or black and this is one of my favorite movies of all time. Thank you all for the reaction. 😁
Y’all all need to see Training Day. One of Denzel’s best roles. It’s so different than the good guy roles we’re used to seeing him play & he played it SO well.
We will homie !!
I loved him in Man on Fire. It's not a popular movie but it gets me every damn time.
@@MsWillowbayOrelse I liked him in that too but I wish it would’ve ended differently.
This movie is a true masterpiece. The characters have a true evolution and the story is incredibly well told
I watched this movie for the first time like two days ago. Might be the best football movie I’ve seen. Everyone involved did a great job with their characters.
Thanks for replying back to my comment on Saving Private Ryan and letting me know about this reaction 😃 when I was working for ABC as a photo journalist, I got to interview both coaches. What a treat that was.
NO WAYYYYY😭😭😭3:54-3:58 I said "love some Black love" cause i thought you wouldn't! I love how you two can joke w/ each other :) cute couple. Subbed!!
Ronnie “Sunshine” Bass played college ball at the University of South Carolina and big Lastik played at Austin Peay University.
As a Canadian, this movie as well as many others, makes me fall in love with American culture. Love this kind of stuff ❤
this was a great collab, amazing movie and i love it to this day. it's remember the titans and lean on me that live rent free in my head and heart. i could say so much about this movie, but there's already so much love on here that i know you feel it anyway.
I WILL share a theory though, i've always believed that it's implied the person that tossed the brick through his window was actually ray, or at least he was in the car and he yelled out the "coach c(oon)" comment before the brick was thrown. this is because the next scenes we see of ray is him getting booted off the team and he makes a point of saying "you gonna go tell coach c(oon) what to do?" to gary.
Either this or Gridiron Gang are my favorite football movies based on a true story. I have not found a single Gridiron Gang reaction on RUclips. It is an absolutely amazing and touching movie with the Rock in the lead.
The one you mentioned with Keanu Reeves is The Replacements. PLEASE watch that one, it's a MUST. It's HILARIOUS and has alot of well known actors in it as well. I know you will enjoy it.
This is my favorite movie of all time, all around it is really good, good acting, good story, good message, and on top of all of that it is a really good football movie!
My favorite sports movie of all time! The acting was incredible, the message and story was inspiring and still resonates today, and I wore this soundtrack out! Left side, STRONG SIDE!!!
Everyone should see this. Everyone. When people come together, nothing can stop us.
"We blitz ALL night" Great motivational speech.
Took me the longest time to know that Gerry Bertier (Ryan Hurst) was Opie from Sons of Anarchy, one of my favorite characters from the show. Julius also played one of my favorite characters (Avon Barksdale) from my all time favorite show The Wire.
Big Boy (Ethan Suplee) going from his character in American History X stark with his character in this movie. And somehow fits both _perfectly._
Really enjoyed this one B. Your boy MellVerse has a real cool vibe…Had us rolling. Not gonna front I got the sniffles at 22:15. Nice one!!
Love you dad 🤍
I love this movie and Hayden's character was the funniest thing.
pretty sure i heard this whole team was undefeated and steam rolled everyone in real life lol
Great reaction and collab. One of the best sports movies ever, Denzel Washington is arguably the greatest living actor.
Denzel movies to watch: Training Day, John Q, Man On Fire, He Got Game, Courage Under Fire, The Preacher's Wife, Antwone Fisher, Malcolm X, Glory. You can't go wrong wit any of his movies, but these are some of my favorites
The Replacements is the Keanu Reeves football movie you were thinking of
In the early 90s, Denzel had three movies in a row that remain all-time favourites for me: Much Ado About Nothing, The Pelican Brief and Philadelphia. He's the straight man in all of them and yet it's three completely different performances and he's so awesome in each of them. He's done so many others that are also mesmerizing (Malcolm X, Glory, Fences, etc.) but those are the ones that set up my appreciation for the artist.
One of my favorite underrated quotes from this movie is when Coach Boone is talking about the skinning playbook he has - “ it’s like Novacaine, just give it time always works“
To be fair the veer is usually like that. My freshman year our coach ran the wing T and we had 6 running plays, 2 formations and flip the plays and that makes 24 possible plays to choose from. But the good thing is the blocking assignments are always the same. So much so that the rest of high school our next coach kept the Wing T blocking scheme and we ran an early version of the spread option out of shotgun. People think he has such a skinny playbook but anyone who’s run the veer offense knows how true that statement is. The motion and the reads are all that matter.
This Collab was HEAT Hope y'all do more in the future
Denzel Washington is my favorite actor of all-time because of countless great movies and the variety of roles he has played. This is my favorite movie of all-time because of what it stands for and all of the unity and challenges it presents. It takes you on an array of emotions and when you can do that in a movie you have won me over.
Flight is Denzel's best flick by far. He deserved an Oscar way more for that than Training Day in my opinion.
This movie never fails to make me cry when they win the last game.
Hayden’s character reminded me of my cousin when she was younger.
This was the perfect feel-good sports movie.
One of the best Disney sports movies, I remember my 6th grade teacher played this movie for the class before summer break
I love this movie! Denzel is just so good in everything he does!
John Q and the bone collector are some more greats!
The football movie with Keanu is called the Replacements. It also stars "Otto Hightower " from HotD. He's the kicker.
My father played for one of teams that was obliterated by the titans that season. Love the story
I love Hayden Panettiere! I met here in New York once. She was really sweet! I'll always be a fan. ❤
Top 5 Denzel performance for me:
1. Training Day
2. Malcolm X
3. The Hurricane
4. American Gangster
5. Remember the Titans
I agree. If you can add two more I’d add Flight and Glory
Great list
One of my favorite all-time movies! Hayden’s best role ever!
Petey had every right to be mad about being refused service because of his skin colour, even after he told Ronnie that's what would happen.
They did a very good job on casting. This movie could have been horrible with other actors. They all were on point and so deep into their role, that can almost feel it. Great movie!
This is one of the movies I have bought because I can watch it over and over and I do.
*We are the Titans!!*
This is one of my all time favorite movies!
Omg y’all covered my all time favorite movie ❤
Training day, Deja vu and He Got Game are his 🔝3 flicks 🎥 🔥
The big guy that played Mr Lasek also played the big guy in American History X. (Yeah THAT guy.) A versatile actor to say the least.
Never seen it which is why I’m not familiar with him lol but It’s coming on channel I wanna see that too
Love this collab and love this movie, and for Denzel Washington’s top 3 movies I would have to go with The Equalizer, Training Day, and Man on Fire
Showing my age here but Glory, Malcolm X and American Gangster are my favorite Denzel roles. All are a must-watch.
Awesome job on the collab movie reaction guys! I can’t wait to watch more of these with @MellVerse in the future! Subscribed! Remember The Titans is one of favorite sports movies and/or favorite movies in general of all time PERIOD! This movie is GOATED in my opinion! Denzel Washington is the man!
Man when Julius hears about Gary, and says no coach don't say that to me it gets me every time
My favourite Denzel movie is Glory, but this and the Equalizer come in a close second
Top 3 is Remember the Titans, Training Day, and American Gangster. Close third is Crimson Tide for sure.
Out of the ones that I've seen, this is ABSOLUTELY in the top 3 Denzel movies for me, along with Unstoppable and Training Day.
One of my favorite Denzel movies but his best acting performances, I feel are: Training Day, Malcolm X and Glory . All of them are Oscar nominated movies . But all of his performances are amazing
Malcom X is a great movie! Denzel deserved the Oscar for that performance. There were parts in the movie if you wonder if it's Denzel or Malcom.
A movie that featured Denzel that not too many people talk about is "A Soldier's Story" You talk about a movie with a strong cast of performers! That was it.
The daughters did hug and then they realized it was awkward so they stopped lol.
This movie came out when I was in high school and since it was a movie with a message it's one that we watched in school a lot. Luckily it's a really good movie.
The movie Mel is looking for is called The Replacements, it’s a great football movie as well highly recommend
Damn good movie right here fantastic performances from all the actors. Ain't nothing wrong with puttin frogs in the pocket 😁😁😁Great show guys keep up the wonderful work 👏 👏
Great +1 reaction!!!
Top 5 Favorite Films of All-Time
1. Lawrence of Arabia (1962)
2. Casablanca (1942)
3. The French Connection (1971)
4. The Sound of Music (1965)
5. Day of the Jackal (1973)
Far and away my favorite Denzel Washington film is Spike Lee’s epic masterpiece Malcolm X.
3rd fav movie of all time. right behind LOTR & Jurassic Park 🥰🤘🏽
19:22 "ima move past that..." is going into my phrase bank for the rest of my life. Subbed
damn I swore I've seen every Denzel movie. 5 mins into this vid I realized I havent seen this movie lol BRB going to watch it now.
My favorite movie of all time right here glad to see y’all reacting to it!!❤
Glory, Training Day, man on fire, and flight is some of my favorite of Denzel
This is one of my favorite Denzel movies and it’s in my top five favorite movies of his.
I really enjoyed your reaction keep up the good work.
Remember the Titans is my favorite sports themed movie of all time. However my close second, also based on a true story is A League of Their Own! Love that movie!
That black love different
I mean ours great too 😂😂😂😂😂
🤣🤣
A shtty comment to dog his woman publicly but everyone’s laughing it off.
It’s funny he brought up saving private Ryan as the actor who played bertier was in saving private Ryan
The great thing about this movie is, IMO at least, you don't need to know anything about football to appreciate it. Football is just a setting around the issues and friendships that are formed from it.
This movie made my cry, the first time I watched this I immediately loved this because of all the singing part. That was the young me but when I rewatched this at work. I cried, and I cry everytime I watch this esp the part where Gerry accident part. 💔
As a Titan, I would visit my school everyday, what down the hall there was a poster of all the original Titan signatures on it, sometimes I forget how much history my school has it's cool people still remember for what it stands/(although it's way off from what actually happened) it's still cool to see so much history, and yet we still could learn a thing or two from this historic event wow
1 of the Best movies of all time!!!
Keanu stared in the replacements! Fantastic movie!
The soundtrack to this film is one of the best ever. Personally I think it's right up there with the Young Einstein soundtrack.
The movie that Reeves was in was another movie based on something that happened in real life. It was called The Replacements. It was about when Pro Football players went on strike and the teams hired replacement players, tho it is a little more light heated than this movie.
Friday Night Lights (2004) is another amazing football movie
an underrated Denzel movie is The Great debaters would be nice to see a reaction by you guys
