To share another heartbreaking story, when Denzel was awarded the AFI lifetime achievement award, one of the speakers was Chadwick Boseman, who played T’Challa the Black Panther. Though it was not known at the time, he was noticeably thin due to cancer, but stood to thank Denzel for inspiring a generation of black actors, like himself, and for literally paying for many of their college tuitions… including himself. As Chadwick said, “There is no Black Panther without Denzel Washington.”

The two lessons to remember from this movies are; 1; What a person is doesn't matter, it is what a person does that matters, THAT is who a person truly is. It doesn't matter what you are; Black, White, Gay, Male, Female or Transgender, all that matters is how you treat others. Herman Boone saw everyone as the same & treated them the same so they in turn saw each other as the same, with the odd exemption. And 2; A battle is never lost until you give up fighting. Gerry Bertier is a perfect example of this, he could have been a victim of that car crash & given up but instead he saw it as a new challenge & became a survivor & an Olympic Gold winner.

In my opinion, most sports movies are primarily inspirational movies with the sport simply being the framework of the deeper message built in. I'd highly recommend A League of Their Own as another great sports movies. And the movie Training Day is the quintessential Denzel movie to watch! Thanks for the great reaction and all your hard work that goes into these reactions!

There still is a lot to overcome. People can be no darn good when they live in ignorance and embrace hate. This is a wonderful story/movie. (And it's shocking that this is your first Denzel film. The Hurricane is another that would probably make you cry. Antwone Fisher as well. The list is crazy long. I would strongly recommend that you continue viewing his work.)
