@ClassicRollPlayer Vince Vaughn was that jerk player who redeemed himself to Rudy at the end of the film. He was super young in that, might have been his first big Hollywood film. Interestingly enough he met Jon Favreau during that film and they went on to do Swingers together.
This is one of the greatest emotionally charged movie of all time. As a white Australian kid who missed a lot of the culture surrounding this movie, it made my young ass cry. My family and I traditionally watch this movie together every few years as a family favourite.

The only two named actors who were actually teenagers when this was filmed were Ryan Gosling and Kate Bosworth. All of the rest of the main players were at least 20 and if fact the guy who plays Julius Campbell was 31 and the one who played Garry Bertier was 25. In the scene where Denzel Washington picks a player up by the seat of his pants, that is Ryan Gosling.
I was 16 years old in 1971, and even though I didn't live in the south, I remember how people had these kinds of attitudes and how they acted on them back then. I have gotten to see change come, but it is still not complete. I am SO GLAD to see young people like you get a chance to see movies about how it was and what it took to move forward from where we were, because today I see people, for political reasons, trying really hard to break us apart again and trying to keep us even farther apart than we were. Keep up the good work Asia and BJ. We are ALL Americans and we need to see each other just like that.
@@michaelfernandez1342 Thank you! I remember Ryan all the way from the Mickey Mouse Club. You right about the young part. Have to keep in mind when chatting online.
@@niceguy7171 Ryan was first nominated for an Oscar in 2006 for the film Half Nelson. A number of his films after that gained him awards recognition so, it's been well over 5 years.
A classic movie that holds a special place in my heart because I knew all the real people the movie depicts. I was a senior at T.C. when those events happened. Some old-timers don’t like the movie because it takes great liberties with the facts, but most of us love it because it is great drama with an important lesson. Julius died just a year or two ago after spending many years traveling around the country, giving inspirational talks on race relations. Some truths and untruths: Alexandria was not a southern hick town but a cosmopolitan, metropolitan suburb of 110,000. T.C. had been integrated since 1965 and at the time of the events (1971) was 30% Black. Hammond (Yoast’s school) had just two Black students because it was in the rich end of town, and G.W., in the poor end, was 60% Black. Race was not the main issue at T.C.; school rivalry was the issue, due to the merging of the three schools. Boone was not new to the school. He had been assistant coach at T.C. for two years preceding the events, and he was my P.E. teacher in his first year, when I was a sophomore. I liked Boone a lot and had a good relationship with him even though I was not a football player (I was varsity cross-country and track). As most people know, Bertier’s first car accident was not as shown. It actually occurred in the post season, but the movie changed it for dramatic purposes. T.C.’s hardest game was not in the State Championship, but in the regular season, 21-16 versus Marshall. T.C. had 9 shutouts in 13 games. I saw all the regular season games. Oddly, the team’s best star was not in the movie; he was a running back who led the state in yards and touchdowns. Yoast was one of the best coaches in the state at the time, and there was widespread resentment over Boone’s selection as head coach. It is true that the training camp at Gettysburg transformed the team, and students were marveling over it when they came back. Boone was a hard-driving coach as depicted, but he had a great heart for the game and for his athletes. Singing among the Black athletes (including some basketball players) was a longtime tradition at T.C, usually done in the locker room. The players were allowed to wear their jerseys in school at any time, and they actually acted as a calming influence as depicted briefly in the film. I witnessed an incident where a player used moral suasion and school spirit to stop a fight that was starting. My favorite true thing in the movie is an event I witnessed: Ron Bass’s arrival. It actually occurred at T.C. in the first week after training camp. I was with the cross-country team, warming up at the end of the track straightaway. At the other end, a fancy car drove up the ramp from the parking lot and onto the track. Everyone was amazed; cars weren’t supposed to do that. Ron (with very long hair) and a military officer in uniform (his father) got out of the car and talked to Boone, who had stopped practice and came over to them to see what was going on. Later we learned that he was a hippie quarterback from California. He was terrific, both a fine passer and a great runner. It always kept our opponents guessing. Bertier was a great success in the wheelchair Olympics in the shot put and discus throw. My brother met him in the gym in those later years and they played ping pong. Bertier won, because he was excellent my brother says.
That's awesome ! Thanks for sharing man, Remember The Titans is one of my all time favorite movies and it's interesting hearing about the place from someone who actually lived it.

In the actual title game in the real life story, T.C. Williams held the opposing QB to negative-5 yards of total offense en route to a 27-0 anticlimax and a state championship victory. The Titans finished their season ranked 2nd in the country.
@@bigt9972 That game happened in the middle of the season. Hollywood twisted them around for dramatic affect. Including the game winning 75 yard td which actually happened with 5 minutes left on the clock.
You’re both correct. TC beat a team, Andrew Lewis, from Southern VA in the championship and shut them out. It was basically a home game for TC’s opponent. Marshall was the closest game they played all season and it’s probably why the producers set them up as the opponent but Marshall is also in NOVA. They would have met in the regionals.
The school scenes were filmed at my old high school (Druid Hills) here in Atlanta. Watching Asia trying to recognize "Alan", famously known as Ryan Gosling, is funny!

I will say, I am a white man who grew up in the suburbs of Sacramento, CA. Everyone was there and we got along just fine. I never saw people in color, I always see people for their character, who they are and what we all bring to each other.
One of the best movies I have ever watched. I'm a 41 year old man and I cry every damn time I watch it even after seeing it so many times I know it word for word.
You two watched a special one. Remember the Titans will always be in my top 5 favorite movies of all time. I was struggling with cancer when this movie came out but I went to the theater on a day when I felt good. The story and the message resonated with me and gave me so much inspiration to fight and to believe. The songs became the soundtrack of my life at the time, especially, "Ain't No Mountain" and "Fire & Rain."
The guy that yelled "fight" is Ryan Gosling. He grew into his hotness quite nicely! And "Petey" was played by Donald Faison. He was in the TV show 'Scrubs'.
Love this movie that was loosely based on real people and real events. The thing I like the most about it is that it shows that BOTH the whites and blacks had serious prejudices towards each other and yet they both worked hard to overcome it together instead of trying to bend others to their own will.
Here are a couple of the historical inaccuracies from wiki: Alexandria City Schools were desegregated in 1959 and T.C. Williams was created by merging three racially integrated schools The film omits that in 1979 Boone was relieved of his coaching duties by the Principal who felt "a change was needed." The principal denied it was related to any allegations of player abuse
Great reaction. Great movie. I graduated from T.C. in 98, and during my time there, Coach Boone was my drivers Ed teacher, and Petey was a hall monitor. Love my hometown school. Once a Titan, always a Titan.
This is hands down one of Denzel's best movies, and sadly it is also one of the more underappreciated films as well, as I rarely see reactions for this in comparison to many of his other works(is it less discussed due to the racial topics, maybe?). And not only was the main man great, but everyone here in the supporting cast was "A+" as well, just a truly amazing film from top to bottom.
Feel good movies never get taken seriously by "serious" movie watchers. Which is dumb, because most of them are mediocre while this one is clearly top tier.
I lived down the street from the original high school back in 2007. Still so crazy to think back on that time to see how messy and scary things were and how inspirational these people were.
This film came out when I was just 10 years old and I still remember every scene. I first watched it on a charter bus ride. It's the kind of film that will have us to believe again and will always remain a childhood classic for me to this day.
This is the first time I’ve seen your channel. Loved it all. You guys give a great reaction. Love how you just absorbed what was coming and let the story play out.
Alexandria Va. is right across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C. I was raised in Maryland just south of D.C. and also across the river. I was 11 at the time in 1971. And I remember the Titans always on channel 4 news. We went across the river to a couple of home games. What is not shown was the huge crowds they had. Many people came across the Bridge from Maryland and D.C. to cheer on The Titans and support Virginia's new anti-segregation in schools policy.
A beautiful movie that moves me to tears each time. Tons of stars in this movie. And Ethan Suplee plays the heavyset kid (I'm eligible!) and he has made an incredible transformation of himself into an absolute unit.
He looks familiar. Ryan Gosling is a huge star now. He just looks so young here. Also, the linebacker is Avon Barksdale from The Wire. The little girl is Hayden Panettiere who became huge in Hero’s. “Save the cheerleader, save the world.” Petie from Scrubs. So many great actors.
Coaches were a different breed in the past. My husband played soccer in our high school in western Pennsylvania. There was no such thing as a tie game in the 80’s. He once played a game with 11 overtime’s. He literally passed out cold in the last overtime before they did call the game because it was so dark. It was for the championships and for the first time two teams were awarded 1st place. His coach was old school. My husband broke his nose during a game. His coach set his nose and asked one of the female classmates in the audience for a tampon. He jammed it up his nose and put him right back in the game. The craziest story I ever heard is the team was traveling home from an away game and they were in two vans. The kids in the assistant coach’s van encouraged him to drive by the coach’s van and back then they called it “pressed ham” to the kids in the coach’s bus. The coach, nicknamed Hitler worked as security at the local horse track in town. It was 11:00PM all of the parents were waiting back at the high school to pickup their kids, but that didn’t stop his coach. He stuck his hand out of the window and signaled the van to “follow him!” He got into the race track even though it was late. He drove right onto the track and told the guilty boys (including my husband) and lined them up. He said “you think that’s funny? I’ll show you funny! Strip naked and take a lap” they all got naked and ran repeatedly around the track through horse sh*t. My husband says he’ll never forget one well endowed friend who he could literally hear him run in the darkness. After they finally got back to the high school and parents heard of the stop over at the track…no one said a word. My husband’s Dad who was the nicest man told him “you should have known better, son.” Could you imagine that today??? Things have improved in some sense and yet that coach never had a losing season as long as my husband played for him. We didn’t have the talent of other teams necessarily, but could out run and last longer than any other surrounding team. There is something to be said for the discipline instilled in kids. My husband got a full ride to play for Pitt. So, it ultimately was a financial gift. Crazy!!! Personally, I would have NEVER succeeded under that coaching style.
Great story. Thx for sharing. Even though authority was somewhat abused at times, it taught that generation respect and hard work. The youth of today are mostly weak minded and lazy and though we can blame the parents who raise them, thinking they want better for their kids; the youth of today should be wise enough to choose to do the right thing. Everyone chooses the easy route which, a lot of times, in the long run turns out to be more difficult. I prefer the old way...more respect and less selfishness. Nowadays everyone seems to feel privileged as if they're owed something.
I love this movie. My adoptive mom grew up in Northern Virginia during the 60s-80s. And her high school Chantilly High School played T.C Williams many times. They were rivals. And she was in high school during the late 70s. She remembers the Titans chants. She also remembers a Titans fan getting into a fight with a fan from her high school during a football game and the Titans fan got stabbed under the bleachers.
One of the best head coaches I've ever worked for (17 state champs) would throw up before every game. He always drank a strawberry milk shake before games because it was the best going both directions.
This one of my favorite movies showing we all can come together as one. Tonight is the night they always remember the night they played the Titans. And Asia, this movie always tears me up
This is my son's favorite sports movie. It is so good. It also opened up his eyes to what the world is like outside of where we live. It also allowed us to have conversations about how if you put other people ahead of yourself and treat everyone equal the world is a much better place. And most important that loving one another like the Lord taught us is more powerful and more important than anything else.

As shane gillis said "this was during a high school football season, that's 8 weeks and they were all brothers by the end is how powerful football is"
This movie is so good 🏈
Love Asia trying to recognize baby Ryan Gosling 😊
DJ showing how his daughter would have dodged the ball cracked me up 😂
Incredible film and timeless film, it never gets old.. one of the best sports films and it's obviously more than just a sports film..
One of my all time favorite movies! Boy, this should be a mandatory movie in school!
Love This Movie!!
Great Story! Great Acting!! Great Soundtrack!!!!🏈🎼💕
He stuck his hand out of the window and signaled the van to “follow him!”
He got into the race track even though it was late.
My husband’s Dad who was the nicest man told him “you should have known better, son.”
Could you imagine that today???
"that's my brother"
Hit so hard in the theater. Especially since I saw it with the racially diverse football team my dad coached.
What’s the expression, “people are hard to hate from close up”. So true.
That "Who's your daddy?" conversation get a whole lot more real once you realize Gerry's dad is dead.
Yooo, I've seen this movie so many times and never thought of that LOL !!!😵
46:08 Invincible's a great underdog football story, too. But nothing hits like the Titans.
Wow that’s sad
💔
One of the best head coaches I've ever worked for (17 state champs) would throw up before every game. He always drank a strawberry milk shake before games because it was the best going both directions.
That's Ryan Gosling who looks familiar to you Ms Asia.
This one of my favorite movies showing we all can come together as one. Tonight is the night they always remember the night they played the Titans. And Asia, this movie always tears me up
when Asia clocked a young Ryan Gosling, I was dying😂😂
This is my son's favorite sports movie. It is so good. It also opened up his eyes to what the world is like outside of where we live. It also allowed us to have conversations about how if you put other people ahead of yourself and treat everyone equal the world is a much better place. And most important that loving one another like the Lord taught us is more powerful and more important than anything else.
👵🏻👍🏻♥️
This movie was a big hit for many up and coming young actors. Check out who all the actors are. You know them from today just all grown up.
A young Ryan Gosling and a young Hayden Panettiere!! Aloha from Hawaii!!!
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. I was sitting here getting weepy eyed right along with Asia! LOL
I played football all through junior and high school. This movie means a lot to me on so many levels. What’s great movie for everyone.
The soundtrack for this movie is great.

Louie lastik Ethan Suplee has lost a lot of weight and is a total badass now !!!!! Please watch Lean on me with Morgan Freeman, and Shawshank Redeemption With Morgan Freeman one of the best movies ever made
I love how much the two of you appreciated that movie. Definitely in my top 5 of sports movies. @Asia I was crying too at many parts
The kid yelling fight at the beginning is Ryan Gosling
You guy's definitely need to watch, "Rudy"," and "Cinderella Man!" two great ones! Great reactions!
I love Rudy too!
Another vote for Rudy!
I`ve always been proud of this movie mainly due to the fact that my hometown high school is in Virginia also and it has a legendary football team as well...I`m still waiting for them to do a movie about our team...Maybe one day...This is an awesome movie.
Miracle.. another movie by Disney.. the story of the 1980 men’s Olympic ice hockey team.. makes me cry every single time.. it’s amazing..
We Are Marshall had me sobbing 15 mins in & I’m not sure I ever stopped..
Rudy is a staple..
Cool Runnings is about the first Jamaican Olympic bobsled team.. it’s perfect!
All true stories.. all giants in their own rights!
i could watch this 100 times and still get all teary eyed ...
This has been one of my top 10 favorite movies for the past 20 years.
Some of the football championship scenes were filmed at Sprayberry HS in Marietta GA.
A lot of kids from local high schools were extras.
One of my fav movies 🫶🏾🫶🏾 I still get emotional during the hospital scene even though I've seen this movie numerous times. Great reaction 👏🏾👏🏾
Another great sport's movie. Thank asia and bj. Another great football 🏈 movie is invincible , that film is also based on a true story.
Another old great Disney movie is Miracle the story about the 1980 USA Olympic hockey team
Gary portrayed by Ryan Hurst, also starred in FX series Sons of Anarchy (Opie) , Saving Private Ryan, We Were Soldiers, etc.
Ethan Suplee who played Louie Lastik (the cool heavy set white guy) is now in supreme shape and super into fitness. Lost over 200 lbs, and put on a bunch of muscle. 180 degree difference from what he looks like in this movie.
This has always been one of my family's favorite movies! Brings me to tears, every time lol.
One of my favourites growing up, coach Carter is also good. Great reaction!

This movie is a testament to the ideology that we are all human beings, start with respect and then continue with love and understanding. It is, indeed, a great film. Great reaction, you guys are the BEST!
That’s mega movie star Ryan Gosling Asia, the guy you said looked so familiar to you. Ryan showing off his dance moves, too. He’s got rhythm. 😂
This is one of my all-time favorite movies. If I ever see it on, I always end up sitting down to watch the entire film. Excellent cast, the best music, and the lesson (hopefully) learned one of the most important ever. The story is told well.
Invincible, Rudy, We Are Marshall, Cinderella Man, The Rookie, The Express, Friday Night Lights, Hoosiers .... yall got plenty more sports movies to choose from
