Had err70 on a Rebel T6. Formatted the SD card, and that fixed the issue. Every other video that I saw with this error suggested you send the camera in to get fixed, but it could cost up to $400. Your suggestion was the most helpful. And it cost nothing. I really appreciate the info!

I tried doing a lens firmware update for my EF 40/2.8 STM but got Err 70.
I formatted the SD card in my EOS 5D Mark III, copied the firmware file onto the card via my Macbook Pro, and then tried to do the update but immediately get Err 70, requiring a battery reinstall.
Corrupted firmware file from Canon?
That's what it sounds like to me. Does other memory cards work besides the one with the update on it?

Yes, even the same card works fine as a memory card.
I tried other memory cards as well, both SD and CF, and I tried the update also in my 7D Mark II. In that camera, no Error is thrown, but it says on the screen that a "Firmware File is required to update the lens", as if there's none on the card.
Very few of Canon's lenses have updates, and my 40/2.8 STM seems to be working fine, but this is disappointing none the less.
I've submitted an inquiry to Canon and I'm guessing that they'll require me to send the lens in so that they can charge me to do an update. We'll see.

I have a Canon 70d and my camera was fine a month ago. Went to take pictures at Christmas and I got lines across my live screen. So changed batteries. Now taking a picture I'm getting a small picture and is saying can not play back and image error but it's really small in live screen. Now I'm getting error 70 and 80. Bought new card same thing. Thanks for your help.

When I hold down the button, little green squares pop up, then it takes a Pic? Then a red right appears on the right side? Then it says busy and the pic comes out meh? I looked up online and go a good csrd..

Just subscribed to your channel. I am having a problem in my canon t100 with the red flashing lite on the back of the camera. It keeps blinking when I'm playing back video. Is this normal or could there be a problem? A friend of mine said it could be too small of an SD card. I have a SanDisk 32 gig ultra card in it 90 mbs class 10. Any help would be appreciated.
hi there, i have a canon eos 1100d. i was near the river with it this week and it may have got a few splashes of water on it - not immersed in any way. Since then the LCD display won't come on. I get error 70 on my Canon t5 and every time I try to take a picture it shows the error i do what it tells me to do, reformatted the card on my camera but I was wondering if that was the same as reformatting on your computer not sure I need help or advice please help
hey, i have recently installed Magic lantern on my canon eos M and shortly after i expirienced a wierd problem. Every time i try to turn off my camera there is "sensor cleaning" inscription on the display and nothing happens. i just can't turn off my camera without getting the battery out of it. would be great to know how to fix this one, thanks

Eric... I have a Canon EOS Mark 5D II. My lenses are all 2.8 (and 1.4) I can shoot, then it stops me from shooting with no error message. The red light in the front of the body continuously flashes. *not the one for the timer, as the camera isn't set on timer, but the one below it.* And I can no longer shoot . Please help.

I'd see if there is anything on the lens contact, where the lens and camera connect. Could also be a battery things too. If not, Canon may need to take a look. But the repair may be more then what the camera costs currently.

few questions, were you using the 60d in cold or very warm conditions? Did you let it sit a while and try again? It may be a battery issue too. If a fully charged battery does not fix you may need to send into Canon. I would try to set the camera to factory settings as well

The problem that I have with my 20D is in manual mode the exposure tic does not move but it works good in any other mode and also works good on bulb mode please help (I didn’t do anything with it it was just sitting in my bag

Hi nice Video. I'm wondering what happen to my Canon Rebel T2i, Problem is when power on all is good. When try to power off it seem the Sensor cleaning seem stuck. So the power off seem not complete. I cant power on right away and need to take out the Battery and reinserted it before i can power on back.
Do the manual sensor cleaning and its working normally.
Just sounds like you have an old camera unfortunately. Wouldnt be worth it to get it fixed. But if anything, just turn off in your menu cleaning sensor with power on and off. Just set it to off and dont worry about it!

Thank you for the information. However on the err 02 message, you said to make sure the memory card is not locked. I have checked and it is NOT locked. I removed and replaced it as well as the battery, as mentioned. This err occurred when trying to erase some pics from a full memory card, after trying to download pics with the software and having it freeze in the middle of the download process. Do you think I should just replace the memory card with a new one? Or is there another fix for the err 02?
Sheri Mousset I mean these are not definite. But typical these are the main causes for these errors. Hmm I would try another SD card or try setting your camera back to factory settings. Once again, not sure if its a fix but may help. If not sounds like a camera issue that Canon may need to look at.

Hi! I am one year late, but i just had the "no card... " problem as well.
I listened to Eric´s advices and moved the little "locker" to the lock position. Since it was locked, i would probably not be able to use it either, so i moved the little "locker" to the middle and .... bingo! It works! In the end i moved it to the full unlock position and still - works! :)
I am not sure, why this error came up, but after todays photoshoot at a friend, we were downloading pics from this card, which was plugged in her computer. She had some problem to take the card out in the proper way, so we did pulled it out in the in the "hard way". Maybe something happenned in that computer with my card and it caused, that also my other SD card didnt work (no idea, really), so my camera didnt recognised any of them.
If it doesnt help you anymore, maybe to someone else...

awesome, glad it helped!
With 01 errors, you can sometimes use the lens by NOT turning it all the way until it locks. This forces you to manually focus, and there is no change in the aperture so the lens is wide open, but it might save you in a pinch.
My camera won't take pictures without the lens turned in all the way without those connecters connected
awsome some gold plastic bands insidethe lens are making a small obstruction i guess, making it a bit more difficult to zoom n and out only thing is idk how to clear this as the are attatched inside maybe i can attach a pic or video

Hey. My canon 1000D whenever I set it to M mode the screen would black out and it would not shoot anything properly, everything is just black. However whenever I open the flash it would show the object I'm taking picture of. On other modes everything is fine. My M mode just suddenly went like that. Please help me.

I would try re formatting your memory card and see if that fixes it

Hmm, these tips are just general things to try. If its a deeper issue, Canon may need to actually check it out

every time wen iam swtiching on my canon 600d im getting error 6; is dis error effects the camera, how much they eill charge to sovlve this probem.
that may be a sensor issue. Does it still work? It may mean the sensor cant clean itself. If you can get the camera on, I would turn that off in the menu to see if it helps.

I honestly think its time for a new camera, like updated newer tech. I'm reading this issue happens a ton with older tech unfortunately.
Hello, please i have these grey lines at the top and bottom of my canon camera and it appears on the images I shoot, what do I do?
What does EXP.SIM means? It appears on my screen. Is this a big issue? I'm using 200D canon
Exp. SIM stands for exposure simulation. When it is displayed in white on the screen, it indicates the Live View image brightness is close to what the captured image will look like.
What about just err? My canon 7d has these problems now

can my canon 80-d be cautiously taken apart to try and clean the electronic card?? there is no other choice can it be done?
Is it still under warranty? If not, not much you can do. Sure you can take it apart but its not easy or recommended. Sometimes a repair may not be as much as you think either.

Hello I am having problems with my canon 70d , was wondering if you can please help me out. I was using my camera a few days ago I was recording and out of nowhere when I switched it to Pictire mode I tried pushing the bottom to take a phony and it wouldn't let me so I switched it back to recoding mode and it wouldn't let me record, I trekked taking out the battery and putting it back in, taking out the memory card as well .
So when I push the bottoms now it doesn't work at all. Any idea how I can fix this please .

Hey Eric Rossi I have a Canon 60D, when I have it under automatic sport setting for fast movement and shutter speed my photos are severely delegated by many seconds between shutter movements because it's showing a "busy" message. Once the message goes then it'll allow me to focus and take a photo then blink "busy" after every photo. I feel like it's a saving issue because once I turn it off it says it's trying to save a certain amount of photos still after I power off. Any help on this?
what kind of memory card are you using, how fast is is? Size and Class?
Eric Rossi I use many types but this one the other day is Maxwell Max Data 4GB SDHC. It's been formatted by the camera too and I just completed the newest firmware update by Canon website but still can't make a fast shoot no matter what the light exposure is and changing to manual on the lens has no improvement either.
My Canon 5D mark II, I can turn off the switch yet if I touch the button anytime any time period the camera is on. No error codes.

Hmm, its a pretty old camera at this point so may be an electronics issue. That really isnt an error code thing. I would either, just remove the battery each time, maybe send it to Canon or think about upgrading if at all possible.
Hey Eric! i just picked up a new 80D just yesterday. its brand new! but im getting the "01" error with the lenses ive been using for 9 years with my old XTI. I bought them both brand new 9 years ago. my xti NEVER gave me this error message, not one time- through 26 thousand shutter clicks. now with my 80D I get it nearly every time I click the shutter, especially on my 18-55. im gonna go out on a limb and assume the contacts on these lenses, and the contacts on the old XTI body wore out together...? the wear patterns "match" - so to speak. now that im trying to use 9 year old lenses on a brand new camera, the contact wear patterns no longer match, if that makes sense...? just seems odd that this tried and true lens is now all of the sudden dirty beyond use and no longer function properly just because I purchased a new camera body...
yeah err 01 is lens communication with body error. What lenses are they though? 9 years is a bit old though.

hmmm, Try formatting your memory card and testing. If that doesnt work, possibly try setting your camera back to factory. If those basic resets dont work, it could be something deeper that Canon may need to look at.

@@Eric_Rossi You were the only one of four whom didnt say send it in to Canon for error 70right away.... Quick update. Whilst the problem is solved it only lasts for about 20 min then the error repeats. I am going to try cleaning the contacts in the camera with a circuit board cleaning solvent (with battery removed...). if this is not successful then i think the issue is deeper. Will try to remember to post my results up. Cheers
Having this same issue - what pads did you wipe down? I’ve tried reformatting my card, restoring factory settings, off and on again to no avail & I’m in West Africa with no official Canon store to send it to 😔
@@ysmtravel7670 The sdcard pads.. I used isopropyl alcohol and an ear bud (cotton ear cleaner thingy). I did have the problem repeat eventually and the cam is now defunct with repair costs being to high verse new cam. A long shot and one I will try eventually (too many projects) is to do a complete disassemble and clean. Good luck.

Hey Eric , thanks for this! I got a question, the error 01 on my 70 d canon only shows when the lense has clicked and connected, i found that keeping it loose/ right before the click works , any idea what to do apart from cleaning the pin?
Hmm thats pretty much it, usually the pins or contacts can wear or get dirty. So taking a cotton swab and rubbing on all of them can help. Try the lens and the pins inside the camera. Does it happen with other lenses too?
Took my Canon 70D while the weather was Ok and suddenly it started to rain. Not sure it will survive. I hope it does. do you think that Canon could help in way? servicing etc.. or it is hopeless to deal with them. Any other camera that is weather proof?
ouch thats not good. To an extent some cameras are weather proof but really bad rain...not much can withstand. Always carry a plastic bag or something. I would try putting your camera in some rice but it doesnt sound good. Canon may not help but if you have a warranty i would give it a try

Eric or others, more specific help on the Canon 01 error code, please. I've had it happen more than once and know how to clean the contacts. It happens a lot more often with my Sigma add-ons than Canon starter lenses.
And now?
Bought a Sigma 120-400, used, a little over a month ago. And now, while the Error 01 has stopped, it is only shooting in manual focus. Simply will not fire unless I turn off autofocus. (Note: I have a Sigma 10-20, bought years ago new, that started doing the same about a year ago.)
I'm not a novice, and I've done basic cleaning, and tried both the lenses on other Canon bodies. Same problem. Could be a combo of old body and old lens, yes, but, at least part of the problem seems specifically with the Sigma lenses.
+socraticgadfly from what I am able to gather, its a form of lens and body connectivity issue. So somewhere there is a short and its not reading properly

Hey someone please answer this. My canon 77D keeps shutting down by itself whenever I press the Playback button. This camera is brand new. Is the battery causing the problem? or Is it the memory card causing the problem?
could possibly be the battery problem or a malfunction with the playback button. Do get it checked at an authorized service center.
My camera is doing thing where right after I take a picture the lenses stay closed for a few minutes before I get my picture, and then my picture looks blurry and really crappy. Anyone know how to fix it?
The flashing red light in the bottom right is the indicator that the camera is writing to the memory card. If you have shot in RAW this will take a little longer than recording a jpeg as the RAW files are larger. While this is happening the screen will go blank for a short time.

that is something wrong with the lens and body communicating. So with the lens off it will always work. But something is wrong with the lens, try taking the eraser of a pencil and cleaning around the lenses contacts. Does it only happen with this lens or others?

It seems like some sensor issue or theres dust somewhere. I would try cleaning the camera out a bit, using the clean sensor in camera and see if it helps. Maybe try a different memory card as well

that just sounds like your camera may be bricked, broken. You probably have to send it in for repair
Hi, I have a Canon Rebel Xs. I take a shot and the Err99 code comes up. I've taken the battery out, fully charged it., tried sliding the memory card door open then closed, cleaned the lens contacts, I've reformatted my memory card, changed my memory card, changed lenses, sensor cleaned many times...the Err99 Code keeps coming up whenever I try to take a photo. Anything else I can try? I hate the thought of sending it in for service...
what lens are you using with this? It could either be an issue with the electronic connections on the body or the lens itself.
I have a 500d. For some days, after I plugged it through the USB to the computer, it no longer memorizes the images, it does not go live view and if I try several times to take a picture, I get the error 70/80 or I get colored lines on the screen . Interestingly, sometimes I can take a picture or get into live view but very rarely, which makes me think it's a problem with the operating system of the device. I tried in all ways to fix the problem, formatted the memory card, reset all settings, updated the firmware from version 1.1.1 to 1.1.2 but so far I have not managed to fix anything. I mention that I used the Magic Lantern. Please tell me what else I could try?
sometimes magic lantern can either brick or corrupt a camera. It sounds like your camera has a serious issue, you may need to send it into Canon.
It's pretty old I do not deserve to send it to repair again, I thought I could handle the problem.

could be a lens connection issue, I would see if you need to clean the contacts on the back of the lens or on the camera

Victor Manuel Seco Martín hmm it could be two options. The manual focus switch might be active on the lens instead of M/A. I would check to make sure the lens is on autofocus or two, it could be a bad lens, thats why I asked if used.

I would try to use a different battery and set your camera settings back to factory. If that doesnt work, you could take a q tip and see if the battery contacts on the battery or inside the camera are dirty

An error prevented shooting. Turn the camera off and on again or re-install the battery.

Hi!! I have a canon 550d it was working fine but then now suddenly it’s showing error 30 I reinstalled the battery too but it’s just showing the same thing?! How will I fix it ???
how old is the battery? Sometimes its a battery issue? Are you using a genuine Canon one or a third party one

I would try a new battery, if not it could be an issue with the camera.
