Perfect! Thanks for documenting your findings. I have a 40D with a similar issue, I suspect the opto-interruptor sensors on mine are not correctly detecting the shutter blades as I can shoot in live view, but not otherwise. It's good to see someone else has experienced issues in the same areas. Thanks again!

Hi, mine also work only in live view, I suspected it was something with the mirror mechanism. Did you solve your problem? I would be curious what worked for you ! Thanks

@@lazarandrei8480 Yes, I did eventually find the source of the problem to be the lower shutter holding coil had gone open circuit (one of the wires had become disconnected from the solenoid wiring post), so as soon as it cycled the shutter it opened earlier than the camera expected causing the error. Fix was some *very* fiddly soldering of tiny wires, under a microscope but it works now!

UPDATE: I tried it on some other camera models. It works but you have to make sure you do not short anything while you reflow the joints. To be safe, put your multimeter in diode check mode,. You should be able to detect a diode with a voltage of about 1-1.1 V if you measure the upper or lower contacts of each sensor. If you see nothing, either the sensor is damaged or some connection is shorted.

Does it happen even when the lens is off?

@@craftingbreak2650 Hello, I have 40D and issue is the same. It does happen when the lens is off, no card, and immediately as I turn the camera on. I am hoping to take a look at it's internals today, first time working on a camera so I'm a little nervous but I have a shutter replacement just incase.

@@chsbadsly good job. I think you just need to be carefull. There are many videos online showing you how to disassemble the camera. Just be carefull when removing the sensor. The 50D has three screws holding in in place at the right angle and distance from the lens so it is very important that you mark them and possibly take a picture of them so you know how far to screw them back in.
      Whish you luck. Have fun!

@@leonardomazza8170 thank you, it sorta was a success. Camera turns on, however it can't seem to autofocus or commit to taking a photo in manual. Although I started with error 99 immediately when turning on the camera, now I get either error 1 or error 99 when taking a shot. Some progress..anyone have any ideas I should look into?

@@chsbadsly What lens are you using? That error can be due to either the lens or the shutter sensor

You did not said it was fixed?
