    We've reached a point in online fitness where the most fundamental concepts now seem radical. Get bigger to get stronger, get stronger to get bigger. It's always been that way and always will, kinda hard to market something so basic, so we get a whole lot of fitness personalities sending people off to "get after it and get growing" in completely the wrong direction.

      I disagree and if Matt sees this and wants to step in I would be glad to hear what he has to say. Conjugate itself is a hard concept to grasp. By no means am I saying it is impossible but there are SO many variables to that style that it is hard to program yourself. I am trying to do a basic conjugate myself with only a straight bar. Squat, box squat at diff depths, deadlift, sumo deadlift, deficit deadlift. Bench, incline, close grip, deadpress, floor press. Then you have 100 different opinions online. Go for max speed, no go 50% max then 60% up to 80, but only for this amount of weeks, then drop into a meso cycle. By the time I have taken 2 hours to write my own program I'm almost like screw it. Who is right? Which one do I use? How many sets is too many, how much rest is too long? SO MANY variables. You almost have to pay a person to write you a conjugate program and be able to coach you. I LOVE the style but I would be lying if I said I was doing it right or felt strongly that my program is even good. I just want to get as strong as possible. I am a regular guy who likes working out and conjugate is the most fun I have had doing it and I am getting stronger but like I said I would be lying if I thought I wasn't wasting time and not getting everything I could out of it just due to the lack of knowledge.

      @@FastingFTW here all he is addressing is :in order to get bigger you need to get stronger. When your squat goes from 250 for 8 to 300 for 8 .....you're legs are going to be bigger. You're stuck in "paralysis by analysis" . sometimes , as Bill Pearl said " just lift the weight up and put it down " .

    • @FastingFTW
      @FastingFTW 3 года назад +1

      @@samuelclemons508 Right but once you stall and need something like conjugate to make you stronger, doing it correctly would be the only way to progress right?

    1. Do an intense amount of volume. You have to be in good enough shape to this. Train them 2x per week HARD
    2. You need multi joint movements like squats and deadlifts for your legs to grow optimally. Get stronger in order to get bigger.
    3. Change and move around your positions. Moving toes on leg extension could be an example of this. Squat wide, narrow, and switch up your form on leg movements.
    4. BIG nutrition. Be in a caloric surplus to GROW THEM LEGS.
    5. I think I missed one 😅

    Awesome to see Wenning being realistic about the frequency that you can train legs. It seems like the squat every day fad is picking up alot of momentum these days.
    And although I respect the determination, willpower and discipline it takes to dedicate every single day to the squat. I think it is putting alot of guys at risk of injury overuse and quite frankly causing them to spin their wheels and lower their quality of life from overtraining and chronic fatigue.
    Twice a week is what I go for legs and I feel like its that perfect sweet spot

    I've been trying to build my legs since December (3,5 months). Been squatting 3x week, have been able to get my strength up from 0 to 60 lb on each side. Which is awesome. But I'm just not seeing barely any size growth (visually, although my measurements say I grew 6 inches). But I still visually can't tell laterally. It seems my medialis is pretty developed, but my lateralis is barely. Now my legs HAVE become muscular and hard, from soft. I'm on Keto but have been trying to eat 2K cal on leg days. Should I keep going or change something up?

    Matt, does volume matter or frequency? You noted 2x a week but if you dropped volume and did more days would that be okay in your view? Also, does strength and being clean vs. on gear make a difference for volume and frequency? If you squat 800 and I squat 300 maybe I can do more frequency and volume?

      @nickvoelker7180 3 года назад +2

      I'm just finishing up mass reduction on my legs. I've taken them from 29" down to about 23.5". I went over to primarily body building style leg training, very limited use of squats and deadlifts, lots of isolation work, and def wasn't pushing anywhere near 90%. Lost a lot of size, probably quite a bit of strength, but my legs are much more aesthetic and I can comfortably wear pants again.

      @@WenningStrength the 72 hour rule definitely applies.... Not denying that..... But i feel it applies only for fatiguing sessions. There are programs where you squat everyday but only 3 days will be close to maximal effort and out of the 3 only 2 will be back squatting sessions allowing you to recover. I feel like the light squat days done with speed are very important as an active recovery tool. Also big fan of your content man👌it's really cool you take the time to respond to your comments ✌️respect 🫡💯
