no "how i woke up", no long winded intro, no super long anecdote about why he made this video, no cringe skit, just straight to why we're here. love it
Love the Meadows reference. I never had the pleasure to meet him in person but I considered him (and still do) one of my best mentors. Informative, entertaining, innovative. John had all these qualities but what I appreciated most about him was his never ending kindness, respect and open mindedness to learn from others, even after decades of experience. He was such a gentle giant and is still missed to this day. Thanks Eugene for keeping his legacy alive.
The minute u said that ppl are more concerned about progressing plates weight and losing all the other parameters of the performance as cadence and form I liked. I'm on the team of doing the exercises slowly to actually feel that mind muscle connection!
@@petrruzicka3461 weight is not an absolute indicator of strength. The physics of a given movement will determine the load and the relative leverage needed to overcome that load. If you have a plate loaded machine loaded with a platform at 30 degrees vs 45 degrees that will completely alter the relative load you experience. The reason why people think leg press is easy is because they position themselves at the top of the platform, shorten the range of motion and utilize their hips, whereas if you sit at the bottom of the platform and utilize heel drive, the emphasis shifts.
Consistency is so important, I’m a disabled lifter and I built decent quads by doing only leg extensions, abductor machines, and very light machine leg press, it took forever but got there eventually lol
The idea of challenge sets 1-4 weeks or so is a great concept to mention! As a beginner lifter I feel there’s a heavy misconception on how much volume we should start of with which results in a lot of beginners overtraining rather than approaching their training more strategically to maximize strength goals and recovery. I’m Greatful for your videos and knowledge ! I’ve been debating the past few weeks if I should take a break on back squat and just work on my leg press tech and hax squat strength but this video gave me the clarity I needed.
I was always told that “you are just gonna go into a resting position when you go all the way down” or “going pass 90 degrees won’t target on your legs but your butt.” I’m glad I never listen to them because it just feels good for me naturally to squat all the way down on every leg exercises I do.
I think once you fully grasp the mind-muscle connection with your legs and start truly feeling it when you're working is one of the most rewarding things I've ever felt in the gym over any other muscle group.....
I've never seen this split squat progression, would've saved me so much pain and mental gymnastics to force myself not to skip the leg day! I'm gonna shill it to people from now on
Even tho I’m aware of what I’m doing and is working and is right, definitely like to re check that what I’m doing is right and see what other advice I can take from videos like these. Appreciate it, very well put video . 🔥🔥
i honestly love this video style. short and informative, they are waaay easier and more fun to watch, especially when you dont have much freetime inbetween work and the gym :)
Great to know you don't have to chase the number on the bar. You can look at more sets or more tempo work too. Thanks to the Legend for the Bulgarian split squat "cowboy" fun!!
What I found extremely helpful was leg extensions where you start pushing when your heels are almost at where your glutes are, to get that really long and solid ROM
Putting timestamps on a 5 minute video. Papa Eugene really cares for our attention span. Respect!!! (I watch to the end, of course.) Btw that hoodie looks good on you, man!
Love your videos and I have learned A LOT from them. Getting up is what makes the champions! Wishing speedy recovery for you from Finland! Hitting my personal bests atm in the "soldier style" bench press (legs up, I haven't done the normal version in 2 years) so this was more than great reminder. And if someone is now wondering what my pb's might be: 5x5 110kg with 90kg bw :)
man that last one is so true! going to failure on say biceps is a great pump but going to failure on bulgarian split squats really knocks you on your butt :)
I’m 6’2” with long femurs. I CANNOT achieve full depth if my feet are only shoulder width apart. I have to go wider than shoulder width. So many people pick apart my squat form because I my feet are slightly too far apart for their liking. They act like I’m doing a sumo squat or something. You’re one of the first coaches I’ve found that recognizes that shoulder width is NOT wide enough for those of us with long femurs
I notice that most people are complaining they have small legs but are doing 1 rep maxes and low rep sets all the time for legs, I personally cant squat and dl supermuch, but my legs have grown pretty muvh by doing sets of 10 -15 controlled reps
Glad I found you! Just confirmed what I was already doing. Plus obviously the extra tips I didn't know. Subbed and I'll definitely be going through your video's. Thank you!
Great analysis! I would say though, In my experience that only a minority of dedicated individuals rely solely on compound free weight movements. I would say that most average gym-goers rely to heavily on machines. I would also say, that the lack of safety in some situations is a powerful motivation factor. One more point: The strict form demonstrated is near impeccable. I would also make a point to mention ankle mobility, and that focusing on that is worth some devoted time and effort.
Have you done any research or looked at the knees over toes? I ask because,I'm getting back into working out, after a nine month loss. 2 knee surgerys. Acl and patella tendon. I've been cleared from PT but I'm really looking at adding weight training for legs. As a runner I didn't use to do alot of weights for legs
Your spot on with your advice, as everything you said in this video is what i have been doing recently, & my leg muscles are feeling great after a workout these days. SUBSCRIBED!
I always do 4 or 5 barbell squat sets then go to leg extensions and burn out for a few sets(continuing with partials when cant do full range) awesome feelings!
My next leg day is today...yay! I actually have a plan that consist of free weights and machine exercises and I push myself so that I barely can walk...well in the peak weeks of my cycle. It is intense but afterwards I feel that I accomplished something great and I can see the development. This video is short but absolutely on point. Well done! 👍
Hatfield Squats were what got my quads to start growing. Back squats put too much stress on my glutes and lower back (long femur, short torso) and i couldn't seem to push though the sticking point in a hard rep without something shifting (mostly more forward torso lean). Belt squats are another great exercise
But am I the only one who considers the Pendulum squat an exercise that makes you perform an unnatural movement and therefore puts too much strain on the joints?
How long do you have to keep up this kind of training to get legs like the picture 2+ years? Been training legs for a few months and only really got my head around it the last 2 months. It’s no real fun to be honest 😂
I can't afford a gym membership atm but when i do i'll definitely utilize the various machines. Right now i do a range of exercises at home, started using a 10kg dumbbell (with interchangeable plates) that i use for goblet squats. Still too light and I've soon spent all my plates, what could you recommend, should i buy heavier dumbbells, buy kettlebells?. Thanks in advance!.
Bro straight up, 3 seconds in and this man is on step 1 already this felt amazing
🤣🙏
no "how i woke up", no long winded intro, no super long anecdote about why he made this video, no cringe skit, just straight to why we're here. love it
What if you don't have full range of motion in one of the ankles due to ligament surgery? I'm limited bc of that. Any tips?@@coacheugeneteo

Literally subscribed because of this. No wasting time. Brilliant information
I never clicked so fast, I have been watching old John meadows leg videos all day
Really liked the comment

So u have really small legs or something?
John Meadows still has videos uploaded on his channel
@@beewalk34 who uploads them?

Glad to hear it 🤗
