I live for these moments in Eugenes vids.💀
That was so funny to see lmao
Try this cool exercise on my next back day. Looks great.
Hahaha
Nothing to add, I'm simply commenting for engagement/algorithm purposes because this amazing channel deserves all the love
Thank you! 🙏
You're the best! 🙏🙏
Always gotta remember to drop that supraphysiological dose of Algorythmol for engagement gains

It works thank you so much butter pecan rica
Bro this feels like the weight lifting version of Hybrid Calisthenics. Super relaxed, super informational, and super positive. Instant subscribe.
except that his advice is polar opposite to the advice hybrid calisthenics would give 😂.
(not knocking on either of them, they just have very different goals)
@@martinshoosterman whatcha mean?
@@martinshoosterman Why would it be the polar opposite?? I'm sure that their advice wouldn't be too far off if they were talking about the same type of training
Let's take a moment to appreciate this content is free, uncle Eugene puts time stamps for short attention spans and responds to everyday comments like this. Been subscribed before 100k glad to see it's gotten this far. Legendary 💪

Let's remember he gets paid from these lololol
Uncle eug I like that
@@bozley149 And? we don't pay him directly
hope he sees this bro
Love the polyphia shirt bro, and honestly my back gains have been slacking cuz of lack of grip strength. I think doing pullups till failure right off rip and then hitting the row machines is my issue. I'm gonna hit back today and save the pull ups for last as they really do tire out that grip strength.
I've got the same problem and I'm doing pull ups first. The thing is if I do pull ups at the very end of my back trainig session, I won't even be able to do 4 x 4 pull ups lol
@@MrEysox I recently tried hand grips for the first time on the lat pull down machines from 115lb 4x12 to 160lb 3x8 and I couldn't believe how much emphasis was placed on my back as opposed to my forearms. I couldn't even pull the bar fully down without the grips at that weight previously lol. I always would joke that back day is forearm day and I didn't realize how much using a closed grip was limiting my back activation. I'm definitely gonna keep using the grips for very heavy loads to keep my back development on point and I recommend them for certain excersises.
you're not training forearms hard enough perhaps? maybe I've just got good genetics that way though (but I do make sure to give them a lot of love)
That gym style looks SO peaceful and captivating! Id want to train in that all day everyday.
What a breath of fresh air to hear someone talking about the importance of elbow positioning and the axis of pull. So many "experts" these days, great tip!
Reminds me of Johns videos, love that his impact has inspired other creators to continue in his footsteps
Yes!
Very well spoken. Just like the great man Mr.meadows.
really carrying on John's legacy here. Cudos.
edit: also, wicked shirt! love that band.
I know polyphia he is herman li if herman li played guitar and went to gym .
@@goatox9595 I thought Herman Li was in DragonForce?
@@SweetPappyJones yes he was and is in dragonforce I am just talking about the shirt band name .
Disrespecting John
Been working out for 8yrs and have always diligent about good form and slow controlled movements focusing on the mind muscle connection. But this single tip about using the free grips changed my back workout entirely!!
Thank you for the knowledge. 💯
Love the t-shirt! I've been playing guitar for over forty years and I only recently got into Polyphia, thankfully I found it inspiring rather than just bursting into tears and selling all my gear 🙂🎸
Yes! hahaha
Same 🎸✌️
Thumb overhand grip is the best thing I've done for pull ups I can do more reps and feel my bacc
Same here, what a waste of effort the thumb under grip has been for me. Having grip limit your training is pointless. Thumb over is the way.
Plus it just feels a little comfortable.
Really appreciate how you're taking the stigma away from machines. I used to think poorly of them because I used to listen to the hive mind but I never took the time to think about the function they serve and how that can be better for us.
The algorithm gods have blessed me with suggesting this video. High quality, calm delivery, great tips. Subbed.
Thank you! 🙏
yeah I really lost my shit at 3:22 watching him lol I think we can all appreciate the things Eugene does to make videos for us
@@davidharcot220 wtf are you saying
@@davidharcot220 nah you make zero sense
I literally came right to the comments when I saw that lol, knew I wasn't the only one
I must be a framelet, because I feel fantastic lat engagement when I use the neutral grip v-bar handle on my low cable rows. You mentioned at the beginning of the video that you want to avoid pulling your elbows too far back when targeting the lats, because that will shift the tension to your rear delts. So, given that the close grip v-bar prevents you from pulling your elbows super far back, I would think that makes it an ideal grip for targeting the lats. That's how it feels when I use it, anyway.
Agree to that. The V grip gives me far better feeling in my lats than wide grips. I still use both nevertheless
Agree.. and disagree with the whole "this grip is garbage" definition in the video
@@max-cs4pz Thats because v grip is a neutral grip and neutral grip engages lats 10x more as this video has said. Wide grip LPD don't actually engage the lats well. This is the biggest mis info within the industry. Neutral grip rows of anytime witll activate the lats more whether its a V bar or not.
@@max-cs4pz. Agreed, I like using the vbar at the end when I am fatigued.
@@benjamartinez704 i’m seeing more and more fitness influencers calling random exercises, grips and even rep ranges garbage or not optimal. I think its just another way for them to build controversy as well as an ego thing. its like these guys have no concept of individuality and the fact that different things work for different people. most influencers have no idea what optimal even means they all just name exercises that make it easier for the roids to work and they call everything they dont like/cant do with good form, trash. seriously annoying isn’t it?
first time ever seeing your channel and im extremely impressed. thank you for this information I will be applying this to my workouts from now on. been lifting for about 6 months now and have struggling with the back really hope this helps.
I have to comment on how well spoken you are and how kind and intelligent you seem. These are important attributes for teaching and it shows. Your videos are extremely educational and explain things clearly. You're the Feynman of fitness! :D subscribed.
Thank you! 🙏
“In spite of what they were doing not because of what they were doing” - There is so much truth to that. Eugene conveyed the phrase “not optimal” in such palatable way.
I'm so glad I stumble across this video, not only for the good advice on the exercises but is such a good video. Really well explained and executed. I'll be sure to keep following your content
Thank you! 🙏
The grip strength tip is going to change my life, my grip ALWAYS gives out on the last few reps on the last few sets and I get frustrated, just never noticed it until now.
Yes!
Same. I recently got new straps and noticed that I've been able to push out a couple extra reps compared to before i got straps
One of the best things I did for my back was slow negatives really feel the pump better
I always perk up when sharelle makes a brief cameo
😄😄
I don't know why or how this video ends it up on my feed, but super welcome. What an amazing explanation, and it truly opened my eyes about it. Your last point makes so much sense.
Nice shirt, just saw them live! Also love your delivery of info!
Jealous!
I've made almost all these mistakes this was a super informative video thanks!
Dude! You’re epileptic lat pull downs technique had me roaring with laughter. Great vid!🤙
thank you!
Saw a dude doing the entire "stack" on the pull down.
Love this channel AND that SRR shirt. Best fitness channel on RUclips because you provide useful information without being condescending about it.
I’m a year late but the v handle is awesome, spam v bar pull downs, get a full squeeze at the bottom by touching your chest, keep your elbows in close throughout the range and stretch your lats at the top without letting your shoulders move up, Finish your last set with partials. I use this as a second movement on back day once I already have a pump.
Do you have any tips for feeling your back?
everytime is workout my back i can only feel it in my biceps and forarms, many people have suggested to use lower weight and slower and higher reps but i still can feel my back for whatever reason (And i do use straps)
@@JebrilKessler what was most important for me was just trying a bunch of movements out until some felt good, for me it’s pull-ups, chest supported dumbbell rows, v bar pulldowns, dumbbell pullovers, some machines work nicely too, this could be different for you entirely. As for cues, thinking about driving your elbows back is the best one, finally sensation isn’t always necessary, just cause you don’t feel your back doesn’t mean it’s not working, it’s very likely if you do everything with good form and slowish negatives you’ll eventually feel it once you find the right movements.
@@claybowman1242 ok i will try the movements you did and hope i feel something :)
Wow. I've had my suspicion of the v-handle for cable rows because I figured I could be moving my elbows with a far greater range of motion. Definitely going to try it out next day for back.
Facts, it doesn’t hit the same for me anymore. I use two d-handles just because you can bring them together in the eccentric and bring them further apart on the concentric
I’m able to get a better contraction
The ending was spot on. Once I started using the suffocator machine (idk the actual name) my back grew significantly
I love this, something I have been really focusing on lately is adjusting the movements to properly work the muscles I'm trying to work and not focusing on "strict form" that would be important in a competitive lifting environment. Obviously still making sure the movements are safe but there's a lot of flexibility to isolate and emphasize the muscles you are trying to work.
Thank you for sharing these tips and tricks, man. I can't tell you how many friends I plan on showing this to given their complaints about not being able to grow their backs.
Glad to hear it
Dude this is one if the best channels for this topic thank u
Thank you! 🙏
Thanks for explaining hand and elbow position.
Makes more sense.
Thank you Uncle Eugene 🙏 (let's comment for the algorithm so this legend can keep sharing his wisdom )
Much appreciated!
Great video. Not too long, straight to the point, well explained.
Polyphia fan AND he knows his stuff in the gym! What's not to love? Keep up the great work Eugene!
Thank you! 🙏
what a Legend !
finally someone who summarise everything Im telling my friends, co-workers ect. You explain it so well and calmly.
You are an underrated RUclips Fitness Coach. More people should watch your content. It's pure quality.
Thanks for this, I tried the v handle for the first time at the end of my lat workout just to experiment, I watched some techniques from John meadows on good form and execution but just didn’t fill my expectations. I’m getting really good muscle feedback from the individual cable handles. Watching you go thru the movement really helps understand visually what muscle I’m trying to target. I’ve always struggled with back exercises. Thanks
Could also try a pull up
For people who don’t have machine wouldn’t using heavier weight with partial range of motion make it harder on the initial part of the left making it an alternative solution
Absolutely!
Love that seated row machine. For those of us with lower back pain and disc injuries, it gives a way to train back without making it worse.
Dude, I now use single handles for my back rows ever since i saw a video youve done about it, and man my back hypotrophy is siiiick
Your band resistance back exercises have helped me with mind muscle connection.
I think bands are great for that in general
Glad to hear it
You can feel the Meadows vibes. The good vibes. You're a real pioneer of the industry Eugene! Much
Dont compare him to the one and only Mountaindog..John was not in it for ego.

Really enjoying having discovered your site. Having trained for many years I find your suggestions, explanations and then demonstrations excellent. Many thanks & keep up the good work.
Honestly that triangle helped me build so much definition compared to other variant pulls you showed. Interesting video tho.
But “definition” comes from being lean tho..

Ahhhhhh the most calming, helpful voice on the internet!
Always so glad when eugene makes a vid and it reinforces what ive been doing.
Yes!
Nice video, I experienced the same with the v handle so I never use it . But my "problem" is that I find it hard to train my back muscles, even on machines. The first set is always good for my back. The last sets feel like they work my arms more... which is not my goal. Can you give me a tip or do you think or know what I probably do wrong?
Try retracting your shoulder blades and squeeze as hard as you can. Also try lowering the volume and prioritize more reps so u can build up some mind muscle connection. Like i said, u have to squeeze your back every rep as hard as u can. And maybe another tipp i have is to tilt your torso a little more to the back this way its more achievable to retract your shoulderblades
Subbed. Love the 1% improvements I’m making to my lifts thanks to your insight 🤛🏼
@Matejko108 you good?
@Matejko108 good reflection in the end. Wish you well 👍🏼
I went out and bought the V grip after watching this. It gave me an idea for clinical upper limb rehab which turns out, is beneficial. So thanks!
I have comfortably sat with you next to these stairs for awhile now. I’m glad they’re back.
🙏🙏
Oooh you're wearing a renaissance polyphia t shirt, love it man !
Yes!!!
If you know how to use V-BAR you can build an insanely wide back. I use V-Bar and my lats are even more developed than my upper back now. The key is the form
I was going to comment on this but you beat me to it. I bring my elbows as close as possible to my torso and I get an incredible stretch on my last. All in the form especially posture of torso and elbows.
3:22 I'm so glad I finished my coffee right before this segment
😂😂😂😂
This is amazing, super insightful and these little tweaks will forsure improve my physique!
Absolutely dying at the momentum section 😂😂😂😂😂
Great advice! Implementing these actions on my next back routine.👍🏾
🙏
Great comment on straps. Especially for deadlifts, just double overhand grip until grip fails... Then put on straps and finish your sets.
The V handle row absolutley lights up my lats.
Uncle Eugene, and men like John Meadows that paved the way before him, taught me that teaching comes as an act energized but an insatiable hunger for learning. Fitness encompasses Mind, Body, and Spirit unconditionally. It has a learning constant to it that seems indefinite; and I hope it is. The journey of being wrong, and the euphoric moments where things just "click" after being guided along different paths in this endeavor is why I love it. Thank you Eugene! All the best in growing the channel
0:22 Sad to think I first learnt this from John Meadows years ago.
Subscribed, you told me im stupid without making me feel stupid. Good tips i will learn alot from you
Thank you! 🙏
I LOVE all the machines you are using.
the old t-bar row done correctly hits back extremely well imo...can just grab the bar directly or use that v shaped attachment... mixing grip up different ways is great also..form and intensity is the key imo
I think you just sold me on machines. Makes perfect sense. You're limited by not being able to get the exercise started at higher weights due to the hard part being the beginning, rather than the end like at squats and other exercises
Clicked on the video and liked it without even watching it just because of the thumbnail. Glad to see another upload from our favorite Uncle, Eugene!
Thanks Eugene always appreciate the thoughtfulness and the care that goes into your content
I thought a high elbow position would work more rear delts and a 45 degree angle is more mid back
There's a crossover between them for sure
I believe this seemed like a really great and helpful video especially for me and my back development.
But somehow when i get to the end of the video i just forget everything you just said.
Lucky there's a replay button
Love the content. Please keep it coming!
Only possible thing to add, which I am sure you or John have covered in the past. The role the fingers play when doing certain back movements.
Great video mam, really love how soft spoken you are for such a big dude. It's strangely comforting lol
In my opinion, the lat Pulldown is the ultimate lat exercise. It is simple to get the right muscle engagement using both wide and supinated grips. It’s the foundation of my back training.
Eugene wearing Polyphia merch ??? When your favourite RUclipsr and favourite band meet!
Yes!!
Thanks for the tip on the wide grip, I'll be using next back day!
RUclips algorithm led me here and I ain't even mad. You're one beautiful human being! Subscribed!

3:29 I bet those are the real reason why our back ain't look like yours. Gotta confuse those muscles

I love using the V-bar, it works the hell out of my back. I can do bent over rows with 7 forty five pound plates, mostly with 5 and 6 plates.
Super useful Tips. Thanks very much 😀
Very informative, Eugene, and thanks so much for explaining your instruction without profanity like so many "fitness experts" feel the need to do on some of these You Tube presentations. You show you don't have to be a dumbell to lift dumbells.
🤗
This was good Gene, thanks. For me though, nothing seems to blow up my lats like the straight arm pulldown (on a machine). It's an isolation exercise and a great finisher.
Another one for the algorithm. Thanks dude 👌🏻

@@coacheugeneteo Well I have seen plenty of videos showing Arnold, Ronnie and Rich Piana using that but apparently you know better about this one.
Right ok i was using the v bar in school and i could never properly feel the contraction this is really good to know

Eugene, I go to university in the states and love lifting more than many other things. I notice a lot of my uni friends don’t understand quality form, how different machines and weights affect them, etc. I think if you ever have time, teaching a seminar at my school would help so many people. We are all so eager to get better and many college students just don’t know where to start. Your information and simple delivery has improved my lifting like nothing before. I hope one day you can do a university tour.
