The life of a Tech summed up in one video. Fix one fault, find another, run out of space on bench, have a healthy fear of being zapped and smiling, lots of smiling. Really enjoyed this video, thank you for sharing.
Glad I stumble across this. It's so satisfying to see you solder so smoothly and how the melted solders go straight to where they need to be soldered on. Didn't know that the gel you often put helps make you apply the solder smoothly, as if it's easy. I remember when I try to fix my own headphone, I burnt the board of it because the solder won't go where it's needed to be. It keeps dripping off the small copper wire.
It kept dripping because there is a coating on the copper wire used with headphones. You need to remove that first, with a naked flame or scrape it off. Then it will take the solder. Flux will also help with the solder taking more easily.
Hello I came across your RUclips channel a few weeks ago and I'm loving your content. I've been going through videos and I've watched all your videos from this one to 9 months ago. Many thanks and keep up the good work.
I've done this with my old PC I built. Forgot to ground myself before installing. A simple static shock fried my motherboard I just bought. Lesson learned!
A friend of mine also had the same model and size iMac. His hybrid drive also died, and he attempted to put in a new drive, and his screen wouldn't turn anymore. After 2 years, I asked him if I could buy it from him, as he had already bought a 2019 iMac. I bought it for $ 75, but he paid for the shipment, so it was even less than that. I suspected that the lvds cable connecter had been bent or broken when he took the screen off, so I ordered a new lvds cable, as well as a 1 TB SSD, put them in, and voila, I have a very cheap 2012 iMac that works wonderfully. I took a chance, but it worked out.
i have been working at a pretty sizable refurbished laptop shop for a little over 7 months now, we also do mail in/walk in repairs and at some point a customer came in with "Hey can you replace the LVDS connector on this iMac? i am afraid i will screw it up" and so i learned how to replace an LVDS connector on an iMac
If the 2012 iMac is anything like the 2009 iMac I tried to repair, the screen cost more than an entire working unit. I ended up just buying another used fully functional unit for the same price the iScalpers were charging for a USED replacement screen. I then parted out the originally unit and sold the parts individually for more than the whole unit was worth. Gotta love the economics of repairing certain Apple products.
Nice repair. So what does it tell us? Always...always disconnect the power cable and/or battery before working on elektronic stuff. Much better after disconnect power or battery, press long time on power-button to discharge elektricity on the board too. If not, this is what happens. Nice job alex, greets
I had one with a bad cable that caused this twice. I should have checked the cable, but it didn’t register with me that the lcd cable could have bent pins until I saw the pattern of it happening twice in a row.
Sad thing is all this is still cheaper then if the customer got Apple to look at this. He is doing amazing work but I almost feel bad for apple owners they get rung dry on base price then having these issues. Keep up the good work always informative vids best on RUclips 👍
Hello, i have imac2017 the issue is after shutdown then after 2days i turn on the imac will black screen but have chime sounds .what is the problem? TIA!
I have a 2015 27” iMac that won’t take the latest OS, I know there’s a workaround but it’s still a good computer as it is. I will work on my Linux laptops because I use old machines but I won’t touch my iMac or my decent Windows 10. As an hobbyist you need to know your limitations.
I've been watching the channel for a few months now and till this video I was enjoying the content. It's not the content exactly but the way you handled the two Switch mobos and the the PS4 and Xbox mobos. You said they were boards belonging to customers and I pegged you to be a uber professional. Upset😷
Hi, love what you do and i enjoy watching your work. Can you show on video how you put your meter on dial mode with beeping sound how to test caps and mobfes, and why you use only one probe and not two like you test fuses? Thanks. I have a similar meter and dont know how to put it on dial mode and dont know how to use it.
they could have used a power mosfet or more to bring power to the display....this design is intentional so that you will brake the display or the motherboard if you don't remove power before changing the display.
I really enjoy your work, I would like to suggest you to add a rubber or any soft carpet on the floor because I've seen that you always drop your tools😁 and they get damaged .
Just watch his videos. He is very descriptive about the parts and repair methodology, and no fluff. Way better than a certain other big youtuber that also do repairs like this.
It depends on the workload. For locals we offer fast service specially if repair is not motherboard related. Like phone screens you can pickup 1-2 hours. iPad screens 1 days. Motherboard repairs 1 week. For mails-ins Current time is 1-2 weeks unless customer wants expedited.

@@JiMiGj1234 you're welcome, usually they use unleaded solder which is hard to get melted since it's usually old and has no flux in it left after they manufacture it. I prefer using leaded rosin core solder to apply to the ends instead of wasting good flux on a dead component removal, though it depends heavily on the case since I'll gladly use flux on it if it's needed

He keeps one probe on a large ground pad and the one on screen to find shorts to ground. With fuses you need both probes for 2 sides of the component
