  • I know, I’ve created the most comprehensive 2 part Mastercourse on Freeform myself here on RUclips - if you haven’t watched it, here is a link. But I found out that Apple has another app, which could be a real Freeform alternative if not even a Freeform killer for you. It has about 95% of Freeforms functionality and comes with a ton of other great features itself.
    If you want to find out which app it is, what makes it better than Freeform and where Freeform still wins, stay tuned.

    Agreed the ability to bring over working copied sections from FreeForm into AppX and the other way around is imperative. I ran into this problem yesterday while collaborating and had to switch to another program all together (PC based). FreeForm was working but then failed completely on this point. Apple please enable this super important feature.

    So far, as of July 2023, Freeform now allows you to remove the background from an image, but it doesn't give you the option to reset the background, nor does it let you control to drag across colors to make them transparent like in Numbers. It's an automatic removal and it does a good job.

    Thanks for a fresh perspective on Numbers - hadn’t thought of it as a mind mapping / white board competitor to Freeform. While your title was intriguing I don’t agree with some of the other commentators that it is clickbait. I’m a long-time excel user, and I always appreciated numbers sheets & tables flexibility compared to excel.
    I think what this really highlights is Apple’s strength on developing OS-level toolkits and capabilities that any app can adopt and customize. I’d love for Apple to make Freeform part of the iWork family, and expand and enhance the toolkits across all respectively so there is better parity in functionality and capabilities.

  • @SajinKomamura-cp2zu
    @SajinKomamura-cp2zu Год назад +1

    @hansfrojowlski6413 Год назад +3

    Hah! I had a similar idea after playing with Freeform (after installing the beta, after watching your earlier two videos).

    • @patrickstoeckmann
      @patrickstoeckmann  Год назад +5

      Actually, Pages, Numbers and Keynote now have the same toolset than Freeform. The only difference is the canvas size and means of presentation. Pages is clearly defined by a printable canvas size, Keynote by a presentable canvas size while Numbers and Freeform share the paradigm of the infinite canvas size. That’s why I chose Numbers as the closest to Freeform.

  • @Thisnthat979
    @Thisnthat979 Год назад

    Your comparison basically says canvas in both app are the same but there are noticeable differences. If you try to organize 200 photos into 12 categories and import them from the photo app, you'll find that Numbers makes the task so much more difficult because it can only insert one photo at a time and lacks the ability to zoom out indefinitely. On the other hand, Freeform allows you to insert multiple photos at once and offers greater flexibility in manipulating the canvas. I am yet to test and compare other features.

    • @patrickstoeckmann
      @patrickstoeckmann  Год назад +1

      You can import multiple photos into numbers by drag and drop from the photos app into the numbers app. However, Freeform improved upon that by making the insert dialog within the app better, I agree. Also when you import multiple photos into Freeform they get auto-aligned better than in Numbers, where they are all lumped together.
      About the zooming out - well Freeform doesn't also allow for indefinite zoom out level. It stops at 10% while Numbers stops at 50%, so yeah Freeform is better there too. I hope they will continue improving on Freeform. Don't get me wrong, I love the app. My biggest problem is that you can't really copy objects from and to other apps like Numbers. If they would correct that, you could do so much more with Freeform by allowing to add stuff that it doesn't do (like Tables) from other apps (like Numbers).

    • @Thisnthat979
      @Thisnthat979 Год назад

      Thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise. Multiple photos drag and drop from photos to numbers only works on Mac. My personal preference is to use it on Ipad, there are folks just don’t have Mac and they nerves will. I would really like to see freeforms and numbers have some supports for database , Apple please give freeform smart folders, it’s very messy right now.

    can you do a tutorial on specifically mind mapping. like the app mind maps automatically makes the nodes by pressing tab and it auto sizes and moves things so perfectly. can we create the same experience in freeform??

    • @patrickstoeckmann
      @patrickstoeckmann  Месяц назад +1

      No, it is not possible to replicate that. There is currently no auto-aligning like with all these Mind-Map Tools. You can quickly create any diagram by dragging on the connectors and selecting any of the basic shapes, but you must align them by hand. So, while you can do Mind Maps with Freeform, you should go for other tools if you really want to have the Mind Map experience.

      Well, Apple doesn’t make money from Freeform as a service but by selling devices. Therefore I don’t expect them to release a non-Apple device collaboration feature. It is obviously another lock-in feature (like iMessage). And they suppose if you want to draw you are using the iPad as the drawing tool, not the clunky mouse. To be fair mouse drawing always is terrible. Somehow they won’t consider other drawing solution (which there are many for the Mac). Maybe this will come one day.

The "purpose" of an app doesn't matter, if the feature set allows for an alternative usage. And sorry to say, but take a look at the feature set, how can you call Freeform beyond all levels of superior especially when it comes to collaboration, when the collaboration feature is exactly the same in both apps.
