    Jeff. Van’s coming on and looking good. Some interesting innovations and new thinking in the build and the fact that you test out techniques and materials before the instal gives confidence for others to use your solutions. This is a great series for prospective van builders to follow.

    Nicely done! So what, to figure out the right length of door to order you subtracted 3 inches off the total hight of the van for the bottom and a 2-3 inches off the top, so you ordered a 58" door?

    This series has been awesome and so helpful, I have been planning my own build for about a year. I found your channel about 3 months ago. I have watched every van build video and it’s helped me gain the confidence to actually do my own build, I ordered a van a couple months ago! Unfortunately it keeps getting pushed back, I’m hoping it comes in the fall. Thanks again for this series, I can’t imagine how hard it is to film and edit everything, but without you I don’t think I would have moved forward with my build!

    I am looking for a solution for doors over a shower in a bench. I’ve seen some people make a privacy wall around it by making a trifold door that can be stored away to the side when closed but idk how they will hold up with the water. And then I thought about these screen doors on both long sides of this” bench. I suppose with both screen doors opened I could make some sort of bench seat that will fit right over the small groves in the guide rail, anyone have some advice for me?

  • @GOLDVIOLINbowofdeath

    Your first mistake was looking at the instruction manual. Those are just suggestions. Any man knows you can do it anyway you want to. As for switching the hot from the left to the right I think some of these people don’t understand that you intend on having a companion and they won’t know that the hot is on the right. Course you could color code it with red and blue. I do agree that you overdid the height of the shower handles but obviously since the hose is attached directly to the handle area if you lower it down you also lower down the hose making it problematic at times. The one thing I wondered as I thought about this is what breaks the vacuum so that the water in the hose can drain out when you finish your shower? You don’t wanna be getting any legionnaires disease. that’s reserved for legionnaires and they don’t take kindly to people who are not members stealing their diseases.

    Jeff, I have to ask you and can’t believe I didn’t already. Since obviously money and labor were no issues in your decision making on your van build, why don’t you have tiltable solar panels? You only have so much real estate on your roof and solar panels are so much more efficient when they’re tilted towards the sun it just seems unreal to me that almost nobody does that. I have watched hundreds of build videos on RUclips and I’ve only seen one where a person did this and oddly enough it was on the channel for the Bob guy who interviews people who do the extremely low budget conversions. I’m going to do it in an ingenious, trust me, way that will cost me almost nothing to install electrical tilt-able panels, so for me it’s a no-brainer. As a matter of fact, because I bought a passenger van that has a rooftop rear air conditioner that I have no intention of removing, I’m going to mount my solar panels on the tilting device over the top of the air conditioner and thereby allow me to have two very large 20” x 40” skylights cut in the rooftop. These skylights will allow me to climb onto the roof from inside the van. My van is already like 10 1/2 foot tall because it’s a tall top 4 x 4 with rooftop air conditioner so what’s another few inches going to matter? It already can’t fit in the local manual car wash bay without jostling the dangling plastic pipe warning and ruffling the feathers of the daytime attendant causing him to threaten to call the police. Guess I could go back over there at night because my van is fine except for jostling the plastic pipe a little. My two skylight Placements amazingly only required the cutting of one crossbeam.

    Very Inspirational. Hubby and I want to build out van and you have wonderful ideas and videos. We want sliding solar panels on top and I just can not figure out how to make this happen What do you think about sliding solar panels on top of van?

      @@iamsamiam2753 Thanks, that’s what I assumed and what I am building. Mine will tilt too. I will probably be selling the kit in a few months when I get this worked out hopefully in time for the September Overland Expo. It’s mine boggling to me that instead of very useful things like sliding and tilting solar panels people are more concerned about being able to tap dance on their panels. I think that will change when they see what I am doing. I’m curious would you tell me what else you’re going to have on your roof besides the solar panels? I’m curious what people prioritize on their limited roof space. What’s the point in making the inside of the van so comfortable and nice if you just want to stand on top of the van with no protection from the elements and not even a guard rail to keep you from breaking your neck?

    You better put a sign on the door. What if you have someone “sleep over” who wakes up before you and tries to get in the shower and doesn’t know it’s not a hinged door. If it turns out they’re a transgender former bodybuilder your door’s going to be toast

    It just dawned on me. the obvious question is why are you looking at the instruction manual for an all in one shower faucet? You are letting the commenters psych you out. Have Winston give me a call cause I’m getting worried about you

  • @tonynotstated695
    @tonynotstated695 Год назад

    I respectfully disagree with your shower handle orientation. The arguments you put forth, 1) many pictures show the threaded part pointed up, 2) the arrow points up, 3) hot is on one side while cold is on other all have actual other explanations. First, if the handle set was installed at waist level, which would give the flexible hose a few feet of vertical travel without turns to overcome flow resistance, and the same hose was probably going to be used out doors so it would likely be longer, thus a greater amount of hose linear feet left to store that extra hose. In your case, you introduce more problems. You mount the handle high, water goes up for no reason, then takes a sharp turn creating back pressure all for no reason. Flip you handle and solve that problem. Second, many pictures showing handle pointed upward assume a mid to lower lever mounting location. Third, the arrow indicates water flow not vertical orientation. Lastly, those handles are interchangeable. Thus left and right handles can be switched depending upon installation.
    Still don't believe me? Ask a simple question. Why would water need to first go up and turn 180 degrees backwards for a shower when a simpler and shorter pathway exists which does not over bend the tube?

    Jeff I need some of your commitment. Just a little bit, maybe 10%. Can you spare it? It won’t hurt you to take a day off now and then, and might even improve your social life, and Winston’s because frankly he’s not meeting any female dogs or male dogs hanging around you, and I need to get in gear and work on my van. I’m really good about designing in my head with amazing ingenuity trust me I’m really good about ordering parts from the best suppliers for the best price but ever since my roll over car accident I’ve been pretty lazy about physical things and getting laid off from work to the covid for over a year didn’t help my motivation. So do it for me and for Winston. Give me 10% of your commitment to finishing a van. Think of it as international diplomacy. We don’t want any World War III between the US and Canada. Hey if you don’t take me up on my Americas Test Kitchen idea for you, which I thought was brilliant, maybe you should start a Zoom Boot Camp for DIY van converters. I bet you’d be good at cracking the whip
