This isn’t the way to go if you want a long lasting permanent shower. Flexseal flakes and peels off after regular use, or even very careful use. It’s also highly toxic despite what the commercial says. Short term, yes, but why go through all this trouble for short term. If you want something longer lasting, this ain’t it. Go with the more common materials van builders use to waterproof their showers. There is a reason why Logan is one of the few people with a video on using Flexseal. This is not a good solution. It’s experimental and after trying it myself, really wished I had not wasted the money and time. It will last a year at best, but it’s already getting damaged from regular and very careful use. I’m a full-timer in my van. I’ll have to redo it at some point which is a waste of money and time. Learn from my mistake listening to this “RUclips Influencer”. Don’t do it!!!
After wear and tear why not just re-coat with 1/3 Quart for $10 and get another year out of it?? True FLEXSEAL has a flash time (toxicity) but after it is set up, it’s not harmful for consumer use. I like to think outside the box and not fall in like with what’s popular. Sometimes that means testing a new theory. That’s why I’m an “Influencer”, a “mechanical engineer”, and an “entrepreneur” with 12, going on 14 van conversions on the road over the past 3 years without any issues w their FLEXSEAL showers….
@@biglogan3690 it flakes off everywhere! Like latex. It’s a horrible idea and it pisses me off that influencers like you try to qualify yourselves without owning mistakes and misinformation. A mechanical engineer has nothing to do with admitting flex seal is a huge mistake for a shower in order to improve your ratings. This product is not safe. If it was not toxic you could use it to store potable drinking water. That is warned against for a good reason. It’s toxic. This product flakes off in bits and pieces everywhere! This means if you have dogs or babies in the van it’s even more dangerous. You’re irresponsible and again, I’m a software engineer and industrial designer that’s as much a qualification as “mechanical engineer” when it comes to the proper use of flex seal. You’re not a chemist and you’re not a materials physicist. So let’s calm down on the qualifying. I’m telling you folks, this guy may have sold a bunch of vans but he has something to sell y’all and I don’t. Buyer beware.
What product do you recommend? Or is there a channel/builder I should check out? tia
When I rebuild I'll probably go with redguard & redguard seam tape over my ply, then when it dries liquid nails with FRP. This solution will eliminate the flexseal peeling off when something rubs against it. FRP seems to be what most people use in vans so I'll go that route next time. I've used redguard with their seam tape before and really like it. It's not good to breath in while drying, but neither is flexseal. You'd still need to wear a mask for protection, but the redguard is waterproof, doesn't peel or come off easily, and you have options of what can go on top of it. You can not adhere anything to flexseal, not even a suction cup. As the top layer, I think the FRP is a better option for folks who live in their van fulltime, or have kids and pets. It's not that much more complicated to go this route. Some vanbuilders skip the Redguard and just put the FRP over their plywood with liquid nails and caulk the seams, but I'm using the redguard for my own peace of mind. I got this idea from these folks who are even more cautious about waterproofing:

youre gonna find out real soon what a garbage product flex seal is.
Hey man great job on this shower pan. Phenomenal idea using flex seal. I’ll need to try that myself later on good job man
Huge fan bro!! Thanks! It has such a durable finish...
Used for my rv shower pan but the pan didn't have enough support so it cracked. The off gassing was horrible for about 2 days (think burning rubber). The coating is also slick so you can slip.

Curious if you have posted a one-year update on your flex seal shower pan. Cracks? Leaks? Did it hold up to shakes, bumps and general punishment of the road? Punishment of use? Did it rattle or squeak? What would you do to improve upon it?
Please share an update on the shower pan. This is very innovative and out of the box. Have you used it ? Are you happy with it ? Would you do it again ?
Stand up in the shower and see if the floor cracks or the flex seal. Nice work.
second this
How is it holding up so far? Would you still recommend this setup?
No frikin answer. Thanks. Time to unsubscribe
Well done and nice idea. For future reference (and for anyone else thinking of doing something similar) the flex seal coats actually bond together much better and create a longer lasting barrier when the second coat is applied before the first coat has completely dried (a very slight tact to the touch is ideal).
Thanks Josh! I would agree as smooth as this dries it would be beneficial to add with some tack...
Homie commented on your reply but didn’t read it…. But you both made a point, haha
Thank you for sharing, I’ll remember that
TACK, not TACT.
Amazing work! How is the flex seal holding up so far? any issues with mold or condensation?
Wait till you’ve driven around for a few months and everything has flexed. Those joints will leak.
ideas how to prevent?
@@cwr8618 Fiber glass and resin instead of Flex Seal. It works for boats so why not in a van.
Let me tell you flex all that product is excellent I used it to rebuild the heels on my boots instead of paying $45 of the shoe store
Love that you mitered the shower pan corners to prevent water collecting in edges & corners. Good to know that the Flex seal is goopy & uneven - but it looks nice after the 2nd coat.
Nice job the shower looks very professional! I thought it was a factory made unit when I saw the intro!
Thanks,
DC
Thanks Dan!
Very interesting! Love the idea. I would be very interested in the long term quality of this method. Thanks for sharing! Seems like a great application for vans/RV!
Man I really like how you explain it and then you go fast forward great job I just subscribed probably one of my favorite van RUclips's out there
Thanks Frank! Glad you enjoyed! I'm uploading the final build series episode this week! Thanks for subscribing! Lots of fun DIY goodness to come on the BLC!
Marine plywood I hope....
I think/expect fiberglass would have been longer lasting.
Same concern. I'd be worried that 200 pounds standing on that plywood would cause tiny cracks. I couldn't do this without some kind of heavy vinyl liner riding up the walls. Looks great, but if it does fail, it's gonna be a mess to fix. I like the simplicity, though and the dual purpose.
Awesome idea, turned out really nice. I’m interested to see how it holds up over time. Worst case can just add another coat if needed. I used flex seal for my maxxair fan install and it did the trick, has started peeling a little in a few places but it’s out exposed to the elements 24/7.
Try Durabak paint. It is a polyurethane that holds up to UV well. Hard as a rock and can also coat EPDM or TPO rubber roofs. Bonds to everything.
@@mjremy2605I actually used durabak on the floor of my van under the insulation.
I like the concepts you've Illustrated in building your own pan. If I may make a couple of suggestions. Instead of using the quarter inch Lauan you could use FRP. Also instead of using the Alex caulk you could go to a quad elastomeric caulk instead for a long-term flexible seal and a moving vehicle where vibration can be a serious issue. But once again great job on your project. I especially like the beep your plumbing parts underneath.
Love this idea and you saved quite a bit by not having to buy the shower pan and super impressed how nice this looks. Adding this to my idea list :)
Nice job big Logan! Always killing it with the DIY projects brother! Can wait for our van build on our channel to get the this point 🔥
I bet if you flex seal the van bottom up to the door windows your van will float like a house boat. You can use that idea if you like
I just sawed this Van IN HALF!!!
Really interested to know how that product holds up over time.... If i could suggest something, when i saw you cut the laminate floor around the drain, i saw you use a circular saw, and then chisel the corners, a multitool/osclilating saw would be a very useful tool in your arsenal, i use mine probably 4 to 5 times a week at work for the most random of things and they work amazing. I use it for everything from sanding to cutting to scraping/chiseling.
Thanks David! I got a leftover floor model oscillator at Lowe’s not long after the video! They are great and yes, use it so often... take care
Funny we are doing the same kind of shower. Glad I'm watch you make great content as well. Keep up the good work. I'm excited to see this flex seal work over time.

Very heavy....overbuilt for what is actually needed.....excellent effort but a lightweight "pre-formed" shower set-up is really the best way. Over time this will shift and flex and likely need a lot more maintenance.
Nice video. Great finish. Inspired my build, you’re invited to check out my projects. Best regards. Always follow your #HEARTNHUSTLE
There's just one thing I would of done differently on the drain part. I would of put down some water sealant and water protection on the wood before doing the other stuff. You can never be to careful.
Good idea for when it needs to be replaced!
Looks great. Nice to see an easy diy shower pan option work out
well without looking so diy.
Hello logan, happy new year, big hello from Ireland, thanks for all the great big ideas, just after finishing my work bench in my garage, 35 ft in length and have followed all your video ideas on making it, great to see you have ventured into the camper van as its my next project, onwards and upwards
Fascinating, I don’t know if probably want to try a Schluter product first just because I’d hope that thin plywood would hold up long term under weight of water however it’s a neat alternative, inexpensive and so happy you could fit the plumbing below the flooring. I just watched a guy (he’s a highly skilled woodworker/craftsman totally bomb on his shower plumbing by installing it above the floor which means his head is an inch from hitting the ceiling so I’m glad you have room, everything’s concealed and I hope this lasts a very long time
Hey Brother… I wanted to thank you for the video. I followed your advise and did the full shower in my camper conversion. I am working on the vid to upload either today or tomorrow. I am going to mention you in my vid and include a link to yours in the description. Thanks again!
You have given me a hopeful solution in remodeling my Winnebago View Preview shower/toilet bath to accommodate my disability. Actually, you may have simplified my shower pan build if your “flex seal” worked. Did it?
Great idea to put a shower in your build. It adds a huge step up in livability. Just a few thoughts , A boat through hull fitting might work better. They are engineered to provide good clamping compression in an application similar to yours. Did you compare the flex seal to aquarium paint? Does the Flex seal exhibit any long term migration of water through the paint? An Epoxy resin coating on all sides would provide an inexpensive seal against unwanted moisture intrusion from condensation etc. I believe you will have long term issues with your sub floor due to water intrusion I learned the hard way from years of boat building.
Hey I know I’m late on commenting but I was hoping for a quick update on how the shower was holding up now. I really think this is a good idea to use on my build
Love your shower system. Btw, I saw another system where they recycle the shower water then filter the water since the limiting factor is "fresh water". But, it doesn't have to be if you design a rain water collection system. :)
One thing I might have done different would have used cement(wonder)board for my side walls.
this dude is great and a skilled craftsman. But as an Insurance adjuster of 20 years, I promise you it will leak. It may be 2 years and it will leak for along time until you realize it. Still a good job. Why not just build an outdoor shower.
That's a great video. I live in Japan, but I've remodeled my car. Cars provide infinite enjoyment.
I like the idea on the shower pan. Where are you located? I'm planning a build for later this year on a short bus.
Nice job building the shower. Did you consider using epoxy? Is the Flexseal holding up to wear?
Nice work...well done 👍
Music name please 😇
Great DIY shower and it does look good. I wonder about longevity as your van bounces down the road. I hope if serves you well for some time. Subscribed!
Thanks Jay!
Making a test patch to test for dryness in the actual product is really smart.
Big Logan, you the man,you seem to have a very beautiful spirit,I love the way you explain everything, you rock 😎
Ficou muito bom, vou fazer exatamente igual no meu motorhome....
E mais uma coisa... Adorei os bonés que vc usou durante o vídeo.
That looks awesome! I’ve been wanting to put a shower in my truck camper but can’t come up with a good plan. There is a toilet space but no sink or shower. This might be the ticket. Maybe I could Flexseal the entire room and turn it into a wet bath.
Haha that’s an idea!
Very nicely done! If you could master laminating fiberglass, such as 1708 on balsa plywood, that would’ve been bulletproof. Also incredibly light. Nicely done.
Seen a guy use this, Flex Seal, on back cargo area of his Stow 'N Go minivan. I had forgotten about it, and settled for a 36x24" shower pan when I couldn't find a "budget friendly" 24x24" one for my shed to home project. What's up with RUclips? I've been watching #vanlife for years and finally got your feed. Glad I found you. Subscribed!
Thank u so much for this video. I'm redoing my whole bathroom in my rv like this. It's an overhaul cause I hate it rn & it's currently nonfunctional. U have a great idea for me to use.
NIce shower build was wondering if its holding up and is it hard to keep it clean , I plan on doing my own pan also so this would be very helpful
Thank you for this video!!! I’ve been slightly panicking about putting a shower in and this solves so many problems I was worried about!
I will be trying this. This is amazing.
Also maybe a handful of sand in the flex seal would give it texture?
Sure glad you did this. I have been using the Durastall-Mustee. I was thinking of exactly what you accomplished. I like your build better because my thoughts were to use the sticky tape in the joints and then paint over. My minds eye dais that it would not look good. You proved that!
Great video and a great van! Could you give a quick update on the Flex Seal? Does it have any off gas rubber smell still lingering around? I am thinking about using Black Flex seal in my garage area of the van but I am concerned to the toxins and smell longterm. Thanks!
Not at all an issue after 2-3 days. Same for Herculiner truck bed liner which I used for the garage area. Thanks for watching!
@@biglogan3690 Fast response. Thanks!
I have seen owner fabricated shower trays to fit specific spaces, all of which were created using wood/plywood and thickened fibreglass epoxy fillets on each corner, followed by epoxy impregnated fibreglass sheets to finish.
Yours is the first build I have seen using tri-sided fillet pieces in the corners and shaped plywood to guide water out and the entire tray sealed with Flex-Seal, all of which I thought was an excellent solution.
You have good presentation, narration and lighting, great videography and editing and a well considered and balanced soundtrack.
I particularly like your meticulous and precise high standards of workmanship.
Your enthusiasm and engaging character shine through and I am happy to subscribe to and support your channel.
Thank you so much Felix Cat!! Take Care and thanks for watching!
how did it hold up? Looking at doing this in our pull behind camper.
The real test is when you start using the shower ( wgt, plus movement, ) good luck.
If the flex seal doesn't hold, try using RV self leveling roof coating.
It's liquid rubber and dries as rubber and bits white and reflects heat.
Love the idea and the "flexibility". It brings regarding the possibilities of shape/size of shower floor.... I did a test panel first and although happy with the finish of even the first coat... the issue I am concerned about is cleaning it. It seems although it does look like a real tub/shower floor finish, it also looks/feels like it will be an impossibility to keep clean? Wondering if you have had any issues with that? And if not what cleaning products you used as not to degrade the integrity of the Flex Seal product! Great idea and video man... I appreciate you
I hope he responds because many people want to know if it is durable and sustainable.
Please lose the music
its such a good video, but i also hate when there's loud music playing over everything
This was great!! I've seen quite a few fiberglass campers without a shower. This inspires me.
Wonderful. Vanlife is fun. I live in Japan and enjoy remodeling cars.
Lots of questions about how well it’s holding up, did I miss the answer? I am considering using it but would like to know more about this products long term status. Thanks !
I have been watching a lot of videos on Promaster Camper builds. I caught your back door and saw a West Virginia license plate. I also live in West Virginia and was wondering about your location? I'd like to see your building person for sure.
Can I adopt you ? :-) I have a lot of work here in my Tiny house :-) Warm regards from wet Germany and stay healthy
Thanks Manuela!
Creative use of Flexseal. If you are open to a suggestion I would put a couple of layers under the drain and down the hole then reinstall the drain. The hole will now be lined so any leakage will flow down and out of the van instead of spreading across the under flooring.
that sounds like a pretty important deail
We sanded out roof down and used roll on flex sealed the whole roof . 1.6 years later and it still looks like the day we put it on. Everybody kept telling us it wouldn’t work
Did you guys post the video on RUclips? Saw someone clean with soapy water after at least a year and it came back to life. Thanks guys! Yes lots of doubters have chimed in along with lots of people saying this idea is/was genius. Take Care!
Great job. Loved how you sloped the pan. I build a wooden shower pan as well, sanded the crap out of mine to get a slope lol, but I didn’t use flex seal. Didn’t like the way it cures. After it cures, you can dig your finger nail in that stuff and create cracks in your rubber. I used polyurethane (boat paint), cures hard and hard to break. Also thought about using epoxy resin, but polyurethane melts at a much higher temp. Was worried about the hot water in the tub. You did a great job! Shower pan looks great!
Which Poly paint did you use?
Good stuff. The thing most folks forget for a shower tray outlet is that when you shower in the van, you're never level, so the water will run where it wants to run, no matter where you have the drain. :)
Definitely NEVER level, unless in Walmart parking lot! LOL
Agreed, but maybe it would be pretty easy to carry a squeegee that you could use to get the rest of the water out. This is definitely an upgrade for mine in my cargo trailer conversion. I have a shower curtain that has a heavy Walmart tarp coming from it. I drape it over the toilet, sit on the toilet and the tarp, and pour warm water over me. With a shower curtain, it sounds like he has a pretty good system. I hope that he will post follow-up videos on this.
Cool, i like that idea/setup. I was gonna do something more ghetto, like a 2x2 grow tray. But might just a route similar to this.
How can you tell if any water is leaking out the outer part of the drain and ending up between the floor of the shower and the floor of the van?
It’s a loaded rubber sea under the drain, typical instal for sinks. Knowing it is tight will prevent any leakage between the drain and the penetration through the van
FANTASTIC! I HAVE SKETCHED ALMOST THIS EXACT TYPE OF THING BEFORE. IT JUST MAKES SENSE, ONLY I LEFT IT TO DRAIN OUT UNDER THE RIG INTO A JUG OR TO THE GROUND IF YOU ARE USING BIODEGRADABLE SOAP AND IN AN AREA WHERE ITS NOT FROWNED UPON.
Espero actives los subtítulos en español para animarme a ver los vídeos por venir. Gracias
Gracias mi hombre muchos gracias!

Great job for sure. Question, do you not puddle due to no venting? Quick showers little water would be the remedy I guess. Sweet video.
Just doing my motorhome. I picked up a shower base as a second, had a chip on the outside front, right where I am putting a wall section. 1200 x 900 for $50. I'm cutting a door to fit the portapotti so I can mount the loo on tracks so it can roll away when I have a shower, keep the TP dry, and enough space not to trip over. Thinking about putting a skylight in and having growbags on the back wall for some fresh veges.
Love your spirit bro!!! Killer idea. And for @dualex to holla, he's another one I watch. Got a new sub here. Will be looking for more ideas that I'll use in my build soon, trying to do one later this year.
For a second, I thought you were going to build a custom fiberglass shower pan like I did.. Mine is a longer dual purpose shower pan because I don't have the high ceiling.. I can sit and shower w/flexible shower head.. Stall has a removable counter top and 2 rows collapsible/removable metal baskets.. No leaks in years but I may have to get some of that Flexseal.. Good job, I like..
@Ty Bell I'm curious about your custom fiberglass pan!!!
