This bonus level dropped a lot of hints for whats going to happen in the next major update. Notice how the scientist 2 stated "three nests" and we just played as the nest we were faced against. So there are four Gene Thief colonies. The first one (storymode) survives the laboratory arc while the second one (bonusmode) perished and was scrapped. Colonies three and four have an undetermined future however I wouldn't be too surprised if they too were pitted against each other with the winner being taken with colony one.
The next Arc will be in Scientist 2's basement or something and the main arc there is to survive against whatever he puts the colony through, defeat the 3rd/4th colony, and possibly escape into the wilds where the last storymode arc will be to survive against the cruelty of nature and wild colonies. Once the last arc is complete, freeplay mode will be available and you can guess what that means.

If you play as the leaf cutters again I would recommend having nine medias and two majors just around the queen as this may protect the workers who will hopefully be able to place the eggs in a safer manner and they may finish off the invader or they can just Guard the nest

also mantz the scientist dude squishes the other colony if they are winning but he can end up squishing yours on accident just so you know
so i have played a few levels of difficulty on this and this is how I see the difficulty level strategies.
easy: anything works
normal: stay aware
hard: idk a specific strategy but how I got 80% through before dying was to:
get an average 19 workers and a second set for a 3rd trip for foraging and backup tube supplying along with maybe a few extra nursery workers. then unlock army ants buy 19 of them and make upgraded versions. unlock slave makers and build a few. then you will get overpowered by spiders tiger beetles and *le spitty bois* and use the queen abilities to win the fight (royal guard and hp refill + invincibility) buy and upgrade.
unlock the trapjaws build some aaaaaand die.
possible solution: I tried less workers with more army budget but I kept losing to supplying the tube. so a balance of workers and soldiers. also mini army ants aren't as good so build a few less than normal then sell them and buy more efficient ants.

@@hammyofdoom8355 Actually, on the forums, a guy asked the Developers for a new beta branch on Steam. They responded by saying that the "Freeplay Colonies" would be a good candidate for that. If they do decide to add them as a beta, then they will be coming a lot sooner. :)

It would be cool to have like a nuptial flight mission-- get as many alates out of the nest and into the air before time runs out.
Not currently. Next extra level is a tug of war style 1 on 1 where you spawn ants and the automatically fight (you have no control beyond what ants to spawn in)

Or a tip is always have 3 diffrent groups for diffrent purposes i dont care if i spelt it wrong
If he does this mode again he should try and maybe make 2-3 chambers of major army ants then put those major army ants in one group so it makes it easier to get the OVERPOWERED OVERRIDE CORRUPTION attack
You unlock them at the very end, they are stupid expensive so getting more than 1 Chamber is pretty much impossible. If you play your cards right, maybe you can get 30 lvl 1s. Quality is more important though, or else they die easy
well done. though i must say you could have improved a lot of stuff. First of all i did some experiments on this level and i can 100% confirm that in this level you want quality over quantity. also what you should have done is to save up some food to make the army ant majors because they are literally op. just 7 of them makes your whole army at least 3x strong. its insane how much of a damage boost it gives to all of your ants and you should always get them. you dont even need them in a high level. just get 7 army ant majors level 1 and then for the rest of the money spam trap jaws and normal army ant soldiers. The slavemakers are way worse cost wise than you think. they are like black ants but just a tiny bit better. but if you look at trapjaws they are insane cost wise. they do more damage then blackants and slavemakers. they have more hp AND most importantly they have a broken ability that makes it go out of combat for a while and heal massive amounts of hp. why i say you should use normal army ant soldiers aswell is because of 2 obvious reasons. first you need them to survive early. and for the second. well. they are broken as fuck. they cost so little amounts of food its insane. and they do a ton of damage. they melt through all of the early enemies they send at you. And when you get trapjaws its already a gg. Though on insane the hardest challenge is ofcourse the enemy colony. they have tier 3 mortar wood ants and all who play this game knows how those just melt through your soldiers. the best solution i found was to have them on not attack command untill they were inside the enemies (yes inside). this makes you able to reach the wood ants, sorround them and shut them down before they can be a threat. then without the wood ants to aid them the leafcutter majors are no problem. Then you just camp the exit and insta kill every ant that comes until they are out of food.
the slave makers are very very good at lvl 2 trust me even slug disco said i watch their streams and the small little ones cost so less because they have very low hp and like no armor do you even play this game because they said that in the army ant leaf cutter level
@@shmowpow5401 they dont have low armor compared to the black ants. They have about the same hp at least from my experience and not only that they deal about the same amount of damage. They are basicly black ants but cheaper. slave makers on the other hand are like black ants but a bit stronger. But from my experience they are not better then the army ant workers or the trap jaws.

@Igni make them fight in battle arena because black ant won with about 1/5 of his hp if i could test slave makers i would oh and fun fact the ants in free play are slave makers i believe because they do more damage then wood ants

A good challenge, and definitely do-able would be to use ONLY the army ants minims through the entirety of the level, with a maximum amount of 70-80
