im a pilot and when im not training at my schools simulator some times me and the other students will mess around needless to say even our instructors with over 1000 hours of flight time cant land this........these are the worlds best pilots.
This is one of those runways where you need confidence that your Captain has done it before, but then you get to thinking, ''if he has done it before, what on Earth makes him want to do it again"!
@@jamesharvey1212 I don't know the type of aircraft. It was a 12 seater. The Nepalese pilots were trained by Canadians in those days. They've been many crashes.
Thank u! I could'nt think of a BETTER word! That's what I call REAL FLYING-something we dared only on sims! Hope to fly up there one day, with the Capt!
Very nice place, very nice video too, you did a great job!! :) I like very much Nepal, especially Namche Bazaar, and Lukla. One day I will visit those awesome places. :)
Actually, I think they do have a go-around procedure. They call it reincarnation. With luck your second attempt might be as a bird or an insect. Ok, almost joking, but you need a strong belief in an afterlife to dare this.
Lovely. Great video & view! I saw another video where it said, children of that area don't know what car is but planes and they draw it often. Interesting! Gr Britain Sun 01 Sept 2019 1436
I'm not sure how safe it is Yksi, this is the second Lukla video I have watched and in each I identified a Dornier 228 that had subsequently crashed with fatalities; on this video it is 9N-AHE and on the other 9N-AIG.......
Se ve muy bien para el sitio. Que es pero el aeropuerto de lucra es en sí peligroso los pilotos se ven muy buenos y saben lo que hacen con estos aviones tan pequeños de acordé a ese arropuerto
Dear Monir Shrestha, I would like to ask for your permission to download this video and upload it to my Facebook profile ahead of my visit to Lukla next month. Thanks in advance! By sharing it directly on Facebook, more people would see it than just posting the RUclips link. I would mention the source, of course
I haven't checked the charts but according to interview with pilot on History Chanel Lukla has no go arounds. Land first time or die. From watching other videos it seems however there is escape to the right if you high enough. They probly have minimum abort landing altitude - to some degree analogy to V1 during take off.
Better have a few carrier landings for this place. It could get real nasty real fast. Those guys are pretty damn good pilots for this place. I know I be drunk as hell when boarding for take off as a passenger.
Man, I guess you just slam it down at the end of the runway regardless of airspeed. Either way, you're gonna land regardless of whether or not you can stop in time.
Mikey Strikey that’s how all the landings are in Lukla. There’s no time or enough length on the runway to flare an aircraft. Just have to be thankful that the plane touches down safely on the ground 🙏🏽
Nepal civil aviation should install an aircraft carrier like overshoot harness or net just in case of faulty reverse trusters . That landing alone will take your breath away due to fear .lol
Although it must be added, that these crashed elsewhere in Nepal, so maybe it's more accurate to say that flying in Nepal is hazardous, including Lukla
The airport was built in 1964 under the supervision of Edmund Hillary, who originally intended to build the airport on flat farmlands. However, local farmers did not want to give up their land, so the airport was built at its current position. Hillary bought the land from local Sherpas for US$2,650 and involved them in building the facilities.[4] It has been said that Hillary was unhappy with the runway's soil resistance, and that his solution was to buy local liquor for the Sherpas and ask them to perform a foot-stomping dance to flatten the land that served as the runway.[5] The runway was not paved until 2001.[6] In January 2008, the airport was renamed in honor of Sherpa Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary, the first people confirmed to have reached the summit of Mount Everest, and also to mark their efforts in the construction of this airport. I landen there in oktober 1980 and the runway wasn’t as modern as this on the video, neither was there an ‘ Airport building ‘ just a piece of landing ground and a few wood houses. Ruud, The Netherlands

Oh true 😢
That is not for the faint hearted & give me chills just the thought of it!
Absolutely commited, no go around options at all. Great, great pilots who fly this airfield.
One of the better Lukla approach and landing videos I've seen!

Watching this video I felt as I was also in the plane landing. Thanks a lot for awesome video.
Fantabulous Landing Capt!
Pls keep posting such wonderful videos for us Flying Fans!
Flew in and out of there twice 30 years ago in 1988 and 1989 when the runway was gravel
What plane did you land in ?

Got to love Lukla. Fly it straight into the mountain and stand on the brakes. Good ol slam and skid.
Excellent video, thank you very much for sharing with us.

Dam that landing was hard! Anyways still very impressive! The fact the pilot could land the plane in a very dangerous airport
Very nice place, very nice video too, you did a great job!! :) I like very much Nepal, especially Namche Bazaar, and Lukla. One day I will visit those awesome places. :)
in lukla theres no soft landing, what is important is to get the plane to the ground :)

John Doe funniest comment I’ve seen lately...lol
Lol
Dude I laughed so hard
Man! Quit that! My iced tea out my nose again! Slipped up on me with that! Hmm, go around procedure, then whammo! 😂. 🌈 Lol!
Anyone that can land safely on a 12 ft. long runway has my vote!
If only Nepal had an aircraft carrier, these guys would beat those navy pilots hands down. Best view till date of a Lukla landing by the way☺

Perfect landing
I remember doing this in 2006 - glad I wasn't looking out of the cockpit!
Beautiful!
Pretty good landing on a runway that is only 1600 feet long.
oh how i miss home more now!!! jai nepal!
That slope at the end is quite a clever way to slow people down.

What might be a little hard to observe is that you land on an upslope to slow the plane down. The incline is around the height of a 10 story building.
Bloody brilliant pilot
absolutely mannn No Room For Errors here on this Airport !!
thks for this video man!!

GRADE GOOD JOB
Did any one ever try to extend the runway with rubble or build a runway extension on stilts .a bit at a time ?

holy shit... the abuse that air frame must go through on a daily basis slamming it down like that
Man, I guess you just slam it down at the end of the runway regardless of airspeed. Either way, you're gonna land regardless of whether or not you can stop in time.
Well thats what this pilot did. Bit heavy landing I thought.
Mikey Strikey that’s how all the landings are in Lukla. There’s no time or enough length on the runway to flare an aircraft. Just have to be thankful that the plane touches down safely on the ground 🙏🏽
Awesome 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
that was hard landing!
Not too hard, probably a few loose rivets, and some underwear changes but it is down.
Just a quick repair to the cracks left in the runway and they're good to go :)
I would prefer a hard landing than going around if I were landing in Lukla haha
Oscar Radikoro Well fuck how do you do a smooth one on that fucking runway
This is where farcry 4 was based

That has got to as near to a trap on a carrier you can get without an arrestor hook.
really nice
That was a white knuckle landing...and I'm just watching on YT !
Jesus! What are you supposed to do if you have to abort a landing shortly after touchdown?
nice quality
don't forget about the other best well trained pilot who fly in Papua..
There must be...what?...six pilots in the whole world qualified - and mad enough - to fly into and out of this airport.
that landing hurt my jaw!
Good work, my friend. I like it. I'm a flight to Lukla three times.
Would there be any chance of a succesful goaround?
memez_r_dreamz Not when you’re already over the runway i guess.
That was actually a hard landing on the gear.
Holy Cow..! that's insane...lol
I have been there twice
Very good
Well.....just watched the takeoff video and thought that was scary....OMG

IRON BALLS..!!!

no flaring, no hovering over runway, just get on the ground and brake like crazy
It would have been very appropiate to show the pilot´s face!!!?¿?!
where is the beer store wow
I can't imagine knowing that I have to be perfect b/c there is no go around. Scary.
It's like landing on a balcony.
I'm not a pilot, but how the hell do you perform a go around?

How did they get the equipment there to build the runway
