    Even back in analog days with the first body I had to include "P" mode I've found it a great place to leave the dial for general photography. You can adjust exposure using the under/over expose dial, get the photographic effect you want (freeze/blur motion or control depth of field) using the Programme Shift dial and the camera does the rest all with just those 2 dials while looking through the viewfinder. With an EVF or LCD screen you can get a good idea of the final effect - even more so if you have a stop-down button - and shoot away. Saves my spouse having to wait around on our travels while I get a good shot, choose mode, set up etc. So the extra tip is a real bonus. Thanks Peter for continuing to promote this great little camera body.

For newbies or those who had not to change to dials to use those options , it will be timely and a useful reminder of how flexible and adaptable our Olympus gear is to use .

    I use the multifunction button for magnify (and the record button behind it for focus peaking) because I often use manual lenses.

    Mysets assignable to the mode dial is an ingenious functionality in E-M10 II. I never use iAUTO, ART, SCN or collage so I have these four set to Myset 1-4, starting with Myset 1 on iAUTO. I wish E-M1 II had this functionality which would give it also a C4 on either iAUTO or ART. Regarding Fn2 as multi function: I use it as such all the time on both cameras (mostly for highlight/shadow). And I always have exposure compensation on the rear dial. Your tip!

  • @hedydd2
    @hedydd2 3 года назад

    I use the multi function button fairly regularly, or I did until the plague curtailed much of my travel and camera use. Yes I use the curve most but also sometimes the colour creator believe it or not. Use the screen as a targeting pad much more often on the Olympus, Panasonic and Sony cameras. Once you get into the habit it just comes naturally.

    I assigned some mysets on my em5ii to mode dials. It is fantastic to be able to switch so easily from say natural to b/w, or from s-af to c-af. Looking for a sweet deal on a second hand em10ii. The mark II camera’s of Olympus are all iconic.

    4/27/2021 I have the OM_D 1 M1 and the OM-D 10 M2, My preference is shooting with the Om 10 M2 cause of the weight, size, and feel in your hand, the only thing I added was a bracket for the handgrip to make holding it easier. The only feature I wish it had is to lock in the focus in the center as iI tends to move it when using, I guess this is my way of having used film cameras for years where you would use the light meter and autofocus centered in the viewfinder, and then adjust the framing when taking the photos, old habits are hard to break.

    Hi Peter
    Many thanks for your informative videos about getting the most out of Olympus cameras. I have both the EM10 MK II and the EM5 MK II, each with the most recent firmware updates. With regard to the AF targeting pad for use with the EVF, please could you advise if this feature is available on the EM5 MK II? It’s not an option in Custom Menu A, but I thought I read somewhere that it can be activated. Any help would be appreciated.

  • @c.augustin
    @c.augustin 3 года назад

    Tip #5 was a revelation! I had no idea that I can put MySets on the mode dial with the E-M10II, and I can instantly think about at least 2 configurations that could suit me. The AF targeting pad I had once activated on my Pen F, and I got lots of problems with it (because I was at some point not aware of it and involuntarily shifted the focus point - perhaps with my nose, I don't know); I might give it another try at some point, but I prefer my AF point in the center anyways. The multi-function button I don't like, I prefer 1 button = 1 function, and I re-assign my buttons to give me what I need (especially the record button gets re-assigned immediately, because I don't want to record movies, unless I set the camera to movie-mode).

    • @ForsgardPeter

  • @HilbertHotel

    The targeting pad was the first function I deactivated as I always had the focus point jumping all over the place. I guess my nose is too big and I accidentally shifted it all the time 🙈

  • @Hrumpy
    @Hrumpy 3 года назад

    If you are touching you display with your nose too much, you can disable the Targeting pad by double tapping on the screen while looking at the EVF.
    This small trick saved a tone of frustration when I give my camera to a friend : )

  • @Lordvader330
    @Lordvader330 3 года назад +1

    I use a lot of manual lenses with EM-10 MII so I use the multi-function button for focus peaking. It's easy to find when I'm looking thru the EVF. Don't tell Robin Wong.

    Hi Peter,
    Hi Peter,
    Goods tips as always. I regularly use P mode and then make adjustments using the dial. Ps is really useful. I have multi-function set to allow quick access to Magnify. As for MySets, I have been using them ever since I discovered them. I used them in two ways. First they gave me exactly what a custom position on the selection dial provides. I never use the PictureStory so I assigned it to MySet1 and this is my custom mode. I hardly ever used Art filter on the selection dial so I assigned this to MySet2 with monochrome picture mode. So I have a Monochrome and a Custom position on my selection dial. Second I save my 'standard' settings to MySet3 and assign this to P on the selection dial so these become its default. Now if I change the settings P during shooting all I have to do is click the P selection dial and I have my standard settings again. I find it really annoying that Olympus has removed the MySets on later cameras meaning that this easy reset to standard settings is no longer possible. I came a cropper missing them a few days ago. I recently purchased an EM5 Mark III which does NOT have MySets. I was using it when I saw some people skateboarding and set the EM5 to ProCapture, This captured some mid-air shots really well. When I had finished I clicked P mode on the selection dial forgetting I no longer had it assigned with a MySet and only fifteen minutes later did I realise I had continued taking everything with ProCapture and had hundreds of pictures to delete. It was a very a backward step of Olympus to remove MySets. Adding a Custom position to the selection dial was not enough to replace them.

    Thanks for that P-mode tip, really useful.
    Unfortunatelly my E-M10 Mark II screen is malfunctioning so after almost 6 years of using it I'm thinking on doing an upgrade, though I'm not sure if I should bue the new E-M5 Mark III, or try to get the E-M1 Mark II for a good price instead (or, since I love that camera since I first saw it, try to get a bargain Olympus Pen F). I'm just an amateur photography enthusiast that likes to take photos, especially during trips, and play with some vintage adapted manual lenses.
    What do you suggest? What do you think will be a better investment?
    Keep the great videos, best regards from Portugal.

    • @ForsgardPeter

      It is hard to say for sure which one is better for you E-M5MKIII or E-M1 MKII. I would get the one that is cheaper. The differences are not that big. E-M1 MKII has a better grip out of the box. So the usability is a bit better. Other than that not much differences what it comes to use that you are going to use it for.
