I discovered your channel this year, and it's been one of the best decisions I've done in my life. Your videos always have a way to cheer me up, calm me and remind me why I love reading, please never stop uploading videos
3:04 this mug is so romantic.... I mean in a Early Romantic era way. The beauty in the pain of love. That mug meant the world to somebody it was a token of devotion a way to express a love so strong that it was countless. And now what is left? What is left of that love that it was strong as all the multiverse put together... A cheap lonely mug waiting to be love to somebody again. But whom is going to love something so personal that now is impersonal?
James Joyce is one of my faves but only for his short fiction (the short stories and the novella you have). Ulysses was a long and arduous journey, but I guess now I can say I've read it! Happy reading!
I just have to tell you that I recently started watching your channel and you're such an interesting, passionate, kind and wonderful person, I actually love your videos so much and you're a booktuber I watch most eagerly now. I actually didn't have a favorite youtuber overall for a couple of years, I wasn't even watching youtube that much, since like a year, but you changed that and you are definitely my favorite youtuber now :)
Hiii from Turkey!! I saw a Turkish writer while watching your video and I was very happy for no reason😂I'm watching you with fun and I'm excited to write a review in English for the first time.❤️
I only read one poem from Elizabeth Barret Browining, “How do I Love Thee”, in college. But it’s one of the few poems I’ve read that I remember from start to finish, and it holds such a special place in my heart ☺️.
The part where you talk about The Bone Season; I really felt the same way about Priory of the Orange Tree, which I hated because it tried to come across as such a great story with great writing but all Samantha Shannon does is throw information and fancy character names at you and no, just no.
That is a cool collection of books from the thrift store. There are a lot of neat books there. I did see the movie of 'The English Patient'. It hit me hard. I think everyone should see that movie. But - I have never read the Novel. Maybe I should change that.
What a great purchase! ☺️ I wish I had such thriftstores where I live. Portrait of the artist as a young man is a perfect way to start. Stephen Dedalus is also one of the main characters of Ulysses. So knowing his background helps to tackle and enjoy this gorgeous brick of modernist literature
Lovely book haul! I read that collection of poems from Elizabeth Barrett Browning in my early 20’s and it really stuck with me. So romantic and full oh heartfelt emotion... I hope you enjoy it as well.
You are the best booktuber I've found on RUclips. I like the whole vibe/atmosphere that you and your book taste and all the books combine to give off. So gorgeous!! Even I like that you specifically majored in english literature.
I love thrifting books so much! Only problem is that there is only one shelf for english books in my favourite thrift store, and most of them are religious, so finding anything good in English can be a real struggle. The selection in norwegian is huge though, i purchased so many books just the last two weeks alone, 13 i believe. And pocket books are so cheap at 10 NOK, it's so beautiful 😌😌
I had to run an errand into the city twice in the last two weeks and piggybacked those tasks with trips to a large thrift store as well. Came home with a small bag full of new clothes and a BOX of new books. And a tea cup. Getting out and about, and the new treasures, were such a mood lifter! Also, I laughed when you talked about needing to get away from the sadness in your books and then you went for a walk in the cemetery - LOL, I would have done the same thing.
Thank you for taking us with you ☺️ Where I live we don't have many (or good, for that matter) thrift stores with books so I always enjoy to see what others manage to discover. Happy readings!
7 dollars for 7 books?! So cheap! There's no thrift book store around here. So I buy them online and the price is sometimes half price and sometimes only 20% or 30% off. But still most of them have fixed price and no discount 🤧
I have such a love and hate relationship with Pamuk's writing. I love "My name is red" and totally hated "Museum of innocence" but you talking about Snow makes me put it on my tbr.
Love birds -> angry birds 🤣🤣🤣 your mind is awesome An Irish novel I’d definitely recommend is History of the Rain by Niall Williams 🌧🐟📚 - pretty much a love letter to storytelling and community... lots of literary references (esp. Dickens!) and plenty of humour but absolutely devastating too... 😭😭😭 I was bawling by the end but absolutely loved it
i think you will really enjoy the portrait of the artist as a young man! i had to do some essays on it in uni and it was definitely one of my favourites that i read while studying
I literally loved this video! I'm so glad that you found that "series" you absolutely love and are willing to buy every single book no matter what :) It was so nice seeing the geese and the deer appear in the video whereas we don't see them a lot where I live :,)
hi i really like the book 5 feet apart. it was very emotional but very unrealistic in an ideal form of love kind of way. it got me out of a reading slump though :) whats yours?
@@gracepacker5871 Hi, my favourite is the picture of dorian gray. I just get along with wildes writing really well! I might have to try five feet apart soon
hi! i just wanted to say i just found your channel a couple of days ago and am bingeing all of your content, i absolutely adore your videos and just the way you talk about books is really inspiring me to read more. also got a ton of new recommendations!
Most of these books I have never heard of but sound very interesting! I would love to hear about any books by Canadian authors that you enjoy 😊 When traveling is safer Canada is one of the top places I want to go and of course I want to buy a book by a Canadian author in Canada 😂 🤷🏻♀️
Hi Emma, I love your channel. Thank you so much for all your videos. I think you will love ‘The English Patient’. The writing is just so beautiful. Anyway hope you enjoy all your books. Stay safe and take care. Love from Penang, Malaysia.
Can't wait to get back to going to bookshops in the UK, April 12th hopefully .... way too long. Wish we would have thrift shops like that in the UK, used to but not aware of any like that now (especially in Maidstone). I would just end up buying loads in there. Love those Dover editions, don't seem to turn up too often in charity shops though
I'm from Minnesota (in the US), so we are basically Canada and I hear ya on the geese chasing you! Been there many a times myself and those damn birds are fast and angry and their hiss is scary!!!!
I completely agree with you on how differently you feel when you finish a classic vs a modern series! Fortuna Sworn is high on my TBR. Can’t wait to start it after hearing your thoughts!
Even though I love The Bone Season series, I understand the problems some people have with it, it is pretty info-dumpy and Samantha Shannon herself has said that if she could go back and rewrite it, she would change a lot, including the info-dump. That said, the series gets better with every book (though the 3rd one is my least favourite) and you can really tell how much Samantha Shannon has grown as writer in the last book. I really think it's worth it to push through the first book but then again I am biased because I love it so much hahah I hope you enjoy it more this second time Love from Portugal 🧡
Emmie I really really enjoy these types of videos please do more and stay safe love you and your amazing channel love your number one fan John in Australia
just give bone season another chance, i promise it deserves .it could be hard to get into the book’s world but once you did it gets better and better 🧡
I dont watch other booktubers as they only talk about fantasy novels which I don't enjoy but even if Emma was to do the same- I wouldn't mind hearing about fantasy books as it would give me the sweetest chance to hear her honey-coated voice and her lush hair, her beautiful eyes, her tenderness❤️ Crush And Love Forever - To Emma With Love❤️
So jealous.. Here in London we have been in lockdown or Tier 4 which is almost the same since November and we wont be out of it til at least April . Thank you so much for this video so at least I can go bookshopping and thrifting via your trip and pretend I am.. :)
Portrait of an Artist is actually great, but I found the reading experience to be ruled by the book notes. Just be sure to put a tab in the back so it is easier to flip back and forth ;P
imagine finding this video as soon as you open youtube 💗💗💗
sameeeee
I did 🙂
I did
Best comment
same💕
Does anyone else’s thrift stores only have Danielle Steele, Nicholas Sparks, and erotica books? 😂
yep. You summed it up perfectly 😂
in Philippines, yes! 😂
yup
My thrift stores have great variety. I can usually find recent books even
Same. I can barely ever find a classic lol
Listen to Gran! Often pockets are sewn shut to preserve the shape and you just have to snip the basting thread. It's a real pocket!
I discovered your channel this year, and it's been one of the best decisions I've done in my life. Your videos always have a way to cheer me up, calm me and remind me why I love reading, please never stop uploading videos

It seems love wasn't that strong after all, it just decayed as everything else in human history.
You’re explanation is kind of heart breaking 🥲
your life seems so fairytale like with all the animals and the snow 😭💙
Right? I always see her as a fairy princess making content for us mundanes✨
unrelated: rn one of your comments has 14^2 likes and this one has 13^2 - 10^2. it looks very pleasing to the eyes
All the wildlife in this vlog has blessed my soul, I feel spiritually hydrated thank you ma’am
The Clothing of Books is such a cozy, warm ode to books and book covers 💕
Thrifting is always an adventure and you never know what you'll find!
Your voice is soft and it's actually soothing in my ears. Take care always!
James Joyce is one of my faves but only for his short fiction (the short stories and the novella you have). Ulysses was a long and arduous journey, but I guess now I can say I've read it! Happy reading!
Clothes, books, A & W and a big smiling dog. Perfect day.
It's true: The English Patient did have an Oscar-winning movie from 1996. But (as always), the movie omits a lot; the book is better.
I hated both the book and the movie. I thought it would never end. Did you see when Steinfeld made fun of it?
The English patient is so good, both the book and the movie.
having emma as a friend will be such a blessing. 🥺

I’m Canadian but living in the UK - you talking about Canadian Geese made me so nostalgic for home... gotta love being chased by geese 😂
Gosh all our stores are still shut in the UK so I’m feeling v sad at this, but what a beautiful video! ✨
Your channel is my comfort zone, never stop uploading videos, please. ❤
I needed an Emma video. Perfect timing!
The part where you talk about The Bone Season; I really felt the same way about Priory of the Orange Tree, which I hated because it tried to come across as such a great story with great writing but all Samantha Shannon does is throw information and fancy character names at you and no, just no.
The way I HUSTLED to my computer to click on this
you should try doing a podcast... would totally listen to it all day
Agreed :)

Lovely book haul! I read that collection of poems from Elizabeth Barrett Browning in my early 20’s and it really stuck with me. So romantic and full oh heartfelt emotion... I hope you enjoy it as well.
You are brave with those geese... they are VICIOUS birds.
You are the best booktuber I've found on RUclips. I like the whole vibe/atmosphere that you and your book taste and all the books combine to give off. So gorgeous!! Even I like that you specifically majored in english literature.
As a fellow Ontarian, I was actually so nervous when you were feeding the geese and they were closing in on you. 😂
such a wholesome video. those deers are really living their lives there
could absolutely never get tired of you and your presence emma!!🤍

I was extra excited to watch this!! You know treasure hunting is my jam! Loved it!! You’re beautiful!!! 💗💗💗
Was really hoping for an emma video when I woke up this morning, such a lovely video as always✨💗
I have “Sonnets from the Portuguese” in hard back and it is a really lovely collection, it’s also a very easy and light read. I’d start there.
That thrift shop looks like a bookstore!!! 💜 💜. Also, you HAVE to read/acquire The Color Purple. Start with that one!
LOVE Middlesex, just picked up Virgin Suicides at a library sale!
I love your videos - just how they’re filmed is so wonderfully peaceful ☺️ I’ve gotten into thrifting my books as well, it’s so much fun!
Omg I squealed in delight as i received this video’s notif. You make my day brighter.💜

I would love a video on what and why you tab your books while you read them
i think you will really enjoy the portrait of the artist as a young man! i had to do some essays on it in uni and it was definitely one of my favourites that i read while studying
Your intelligence and sweet manner are always great to experience. Also you really have the circle of life thing going on there about 30:20.
So calming and peaceful 🥰

I've only read the marriage plot from him and I was planning on reading the virgin suicides, but maybe I'll start with Middlesex

the bone season series is really good! But audiobook it it makes it flow better xxxxx
the title makes me so happy! 😍
When you saw the white dress I immediately thought GREAT EXPECTATIONS.
Love your videos ! 💙 Hello from France 😘💕
My favourite ondaatje is Running in the Family. Didn't love English Patient as much as I thought I would. The movie was amazing tho.

Sonnet 21 by Browning is my absolute favorite poem!!

Middlesex won the Pulitzer Prize. You should give it a read. It is an amazing book.
So relaxing 😊🙃
Everyone wants to love The Bone Season, alas I fear 2 stars was generous.
Hello from Turkey, i’m the new subscriber of this channel. I feel a little embrassed that i haven’t read Orhan Pamuk/Snow. 😅
Im so glad that you are reading ORHAN PAMUK's books. He is very talented and very populer in TURKEY
i admire ur beautiful energy so much emma :’)
