  • The Folkstails have a unique structure in the Irrigation Towers, that are meant to help create more arable farmland in Timberborn. However the towers from what I've seen are not that great in my opinion and I'll explain why a long with pointing out the better alternatives to the Irrigation Tower which include creating water channels and using a water dump. After all we need the beavers to work smart not hard!

Reached the point where I need to expand, and Googled 'Irrigation tower'. And this video appeared. Concise info on why it's better to research explosives, vs. building Irrigation towers. Thanks!

Thanks! Also as another commenter shared, Levees work well as well before you can get explosives for making your own little water spots via water dumps.

Old video but I hope you've realized the music was way too loud.

Using it as an alternative before dynamite unlocks is also bad. You can use 4 levees to surround a tile, and just fill the one tile with a water dump. The science and construction costs are roughly the same, but the effect is much greater, and uses much less water. The only downside of the levees + water dump is a slightly larger footprint.

Yeah when I made this I hadn't learned about the Levee system for doing the same thing. Learned about it shortly afterward though. Since yeah the tower is just so bad, its like adding 12+ additional beavers to your town but not getting any additional labor for it just a drain on water.

Even early game i build a square of levees and a water dump on top larger area than the tower and uses significantly less water.. and yes does take up more space but the trade off is worth it..

I hadn't thought about that, that is a rather clever use of levees to create your own irrigated spot before getting access to Dynamite. Hopefully they change the Irrigation tower as it really should be a viable method and not just a water sink.

    Am I missing something ?
I always needed the irrigation tower mainly for during a draught..
If I didn’t irrigate the trees and the crops at least for the moment then the trees would die.
How do I properly farm trees without the irrigation tower to keep them alive thru the draught?

At the time instead of the irrigation tower people would just use 4 levees to create a pocket where you could have a water dump fill a square with water which would irrigate almost as much land as the tower. And it lasted far longer as the irrigation tower just tore through water supplies.
Though they have nerfed that method of irrigating as well since Levees will impede irrigating the land.
The big thing to do though is to dam up the river to keep irrigation going and as the game progresses use unlocked tech to alter where the river flows. So you can maintain irrigation and water as well as prevent badwater from killing your crops.

@@Tazkar so your saying by both damming up the river and altering where the flow goes I can maintain irrigation even during the draught and dry season

I do hope the Irrigation Tower gets improved as Early Access progresses, though right now I only see very limited use for it given the amount of additional beaver power it needs. Since one Tower pretty much needs a dedicated water pump just for it.
Also I hope they add more unique buildings to the factions as well as more factions with differing playstyles!

2 years later, the answer is nope. The irrigation tower is now gone.
