My parents who are from the Caribbean grew us up keeping the sabbath. Even after we left religion, we still keep the sabbath. There is a total blessing from the Creator in that! Thanks for your video on sabbath keeping and it helps me to appreciate it even more!

The timing of this video is no coincidence for me. I’ve been struggling with the concept of down time lately. I’m self employed and feel as though I need to make as much money as I can while clients are bountiful. The pandemic hit my business hard so I feel like I’m playing catch up but at what cost?! Thank you for a lovely video.

I love this! I was raised an SDA Christian, and kept the sabbath every week! I stopped a few years ago, and I honestly haven’t had the same sense of peace since! ❤️

Rest is important, Glad you mentioned how rest is more than just sleep - But we sacrifice rest at the detriment of our spiritual, physical and emotional well being.

I'm glad you mentioned this because I'm learning that rest is also very productive. When one rests, then they are able to fill their cup and in turn have the energy to both take care of themselves and help others. I think that in this capitalist society, we always feel like we need to be on the go. But resting really allows you to see the beauty in each moment that so easily escapes us. We should all learn to invest in memories more than solely material possessions. This is a great reminder; thank you for sharing!

The first line I resonate with. I grew up in a Baptist church where the Sabbath was not practiced. I thought it was exclusive to SDA and Orthodox Jews.
Reading the old testament made me love God even more. God created the Earth 🌎 and saw it was good and rested on the 7th day. And even through Israelites that followed Sabbath, it meant so much more than just not doing work but it was foretelling the coming of Christ. Jesus is the Lord of the Sabbath. We go to him for rest! I'm grateful to God for the rest he gives us! May you all find rest in Him♡
    Thank you, Kelsia😊

I grew up keeping the Sabbath as well (although I'm Christian, not Jewish). It's crazy how vital that rest has become for me even my adulthood. I truly cannot imagine dealing with life 24/7. If God could take a break during creation, you best believe imma take one too lmao. We were not created to work all day everyday!!

Yess!! I agree. I recently decided I would pick a day out of the week to not do anything including no T.V (Netflix, HBO, RUclips, etc.)

I was hoping you'd mention what you've been reading/listening to on the Sabbath. A few recommendations in case you haven't come across them: 1) Walter Brueggemann who has written extensively on links between exploitative and extractive systems in the Old Testament and the contemporary world (find numerous talks of his right here on this platform); 2) Marva Dawn, now of blessed memory (she passed away a few months ago), who has also written extensively on Sabbath-keeping and empire; check out her talk on "Worship as a Royal Waste of Time"; she is also author of the beautiful hymn "Come Away from Rush and Hurry"; and 3) one of my favourite sermons by Barbara Brown Taylor called "Sacred Downtime". Also quite insightful is Katrina Onstad's book _The Weekend Effect: The Life-Changing Benefits of Taking Time Off and Challenging the Cult of Overwork._

    *What is the Gospel?*
The true gospel is the good news that God saves sinners. Man is by nature sinful and separated from God with no hope of remedying that situation. But God, by His power, provided the means of man’s redemption in the death, burial, and resurrection of the Savior, Jesus Christ.
    Ephesians 2:8-9
For it is by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of GOD, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
    Romans 10:9
9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
    JESUS CHRIST can come anytime!
Just Believe ❤️ Love you and GOD BLESS

I appreciate the message that there is a need for balance, but perhaps you should call your rest day something else. Sabbath days literally were days set aside, not for self interests, but God's day. It was a way to remind the Israelites that they can't live their lives and forget about him. Their whole culture was built around work, so it was a rest from work but a day to be with family, sing songs to God, go to the temple and worship together and reflect the whole day about what God has done for them. I agree that the rat race of the world we live in is extremely unhealthy and there needs to be a huge shift in work/rest balance.
