This song is timeless..Hucknalls vocals are so soulful
Yep, still crying for my one and only love. After all these years . Miss you babe.
This was so big on MTV...makes me cry everytime.
Mick's voice is angelic. Never get tired of hearing this song. His cover of If You Don't Know Me By Now, Stars, Sunrise are favorites.
She should take a bit of mandi/molly before listening to the songs, realy does enhance them😂
Excellent point! Did you ever hear The Isley Brothers version. It's so beautiful as well. Just to let you know that Ireland/Scotland/England have had some amazing Blue Eyed Soul Singers. Him, Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran, Dusty Springfield (Born Mary Catherine Elizabeth O'Brien), Duffy, Amy Winehouse (RIP), Nadine Coyle formerly of Girls Aloud and of course Adele. Growing up when Rhythm & Blues first became popular, UK Artists were more "Vocal about their passion unlike America in the 1950's. Also did you ever hear them do "Sunrise" Sampling Hall & Oates "I Can't Go For That". .
and "Money's too tight..."
It's Only Love is a great cover cut too.
Mick was abandoned by his mother at age four. As a teenager he wrote this song about the pain of childhood years.
at 3
Yep, at 3.
I was going through a nasty divorce when this song came out. I related this to losing my kids. Which I related to losing my Mom who gave birth to me.
@@seacrete56 goodness... are you better now?❤✌
😔😢 beautiful ❣️
I never get tired of listening to this song. One of a kind for sure.
I have it signed by 2 original member's!
Oh wow! That’s awesome!
@@TexasRose50 Tim Kellett the trumpet player in the video and Chris Joyce the drummer.
That is SO cool! You’ve got a real collectors item there!
@@TexasRose50 i have LOADS! I'm on instagram if you want to see my museum of signed stuff lol
Mick Hucknell has one of the most unique voices. Check out " Moneys to Tight to Mention", "If You Don't Know Me By Now", "Stars" or "Fairground". Simply Red is still one one of my favorite groups.
Another classic of their's is "Sunrise." Mick took that Hall & Oats beat & made it his own.
Just watch his concert at Sydney Opera House, I thing from 2010 or 2012. It's even better than a studio album.
Don't know why you fail to mention Night Nurse, but I can definitely imagine the reason.
His voice is so outrageous it's piercing.
This redheaded soul singing brother has a voice like no other. check out his version of "if you don't know me by now", a classic. Tks for another great song choice and genuine reaction 💕
Clarinet 👍🤣
His name is Mick Hucknall
30+ years later, this song and his voice still give me goose bumps... amazing
Absolutely right even as ex an military man this still gets into my soul,
Saw Simply Red live several times and Mick’s voice was just as good live as in the studio
Insane to think that he wrote this when he was 17.
Absolutely.. the dude was only 17yrs old when he wrote and cut this track. Used his momeries of his mother leaving him at a young age. An absolute classic
we definitely dont see this kind of singer songwriter anymore.
He should have kept making licks like this! So much soul!
Holy cow- abandonment is torture for a lifetime for a man. How can you relate to and trust woman when this happens to you as a child? How do you ever let your guard down?
Mick is The Man!!
This is a "Signature" song of the 80s. Also Bruce Hornby's "The Way It Is" & Joe Jackson's "Steppin Out".
That pain in his voice comes from the abandonment by his mother in the age of 3.Incredible deep-souled artist.
Yes especially in the last scene on the train , it’s the despairing cry of a child for his mother !
True story. His mom left the family for another man when he was very young. Voice....Phenominal! Never tire of this one and I was 30 when it came out. Loved it then and love it now.
One of the great soul voices that got even better as he got older
Stick a pin in the Simply Red songbook and it’ll be a gem but Stars will do for starters
Agreed, his voice is like a fine wine, just keeps getting better with age
Stars has to be my fave from their songbook🤗
Yessss- love this! His song “if you don’t know me by now” is another must of his Jayy- 🥰💖👍
Diamond of a voice. "Moneys to tight to mention" showcases his amazing range of vocals like you wouldn't believe.
Yes smart person and so many more
The greatest soul song ever written and performed is by this white guy. It tears anyone's soul who has one.
His voice is something else, if I hear him on the radio I have to listen till the end even if I am at my destination I sit and listen.
this guy has such an awesome voice , he still does
his voice is haunting, that is the only word I can find to describe it
Such an amazing song. Touching. Nice to see others discovering it.
Aaaahhhh... I've loved his song since it 1st came out. Yup, I'm older than dirt! LOL. When you had to back up to hear that note, all I thought was; I can't wait for her to hear him at the end! This song is so beautifully sad. 💙
I could hear, in his screams, the voice of an abandoned child. We all carry our childhood with us, for whatever reason. We have to protect that child, whatever the cost.
indeed
😥
Don't allow them to be vaccinated if you care
@@annother3350 what the heck? What is wrong with you? By the way Mick is vaccinated as all his family is. So get lost!
@@nataliyakolesnik1671 The vaccine is affecting childrens hearts. What is wrong in warning people. You get lost
You nailed it. This song is fiddlesticking phenomenal! 😍
We went to the same high school. Audenshaw high school in Manchester, same music teacher. Bout 10 years apart though and no I can't sing for toffee! Great memories listening to his music when I was younger, don't care what anyone thinks I love me some simply red!
I am 11 years younger, did not go to the same school, was not raised in the same country, but I am feeling like I know Mick all my life. The man is not just a genius, he is an old beautiful soul who loves life so much, regardless. I am happy to know he is settled now and is raising a wonderful daughter. Wish him and his family to stay safe and healthy.✌❤🙏
It's a trumpet! This song slaps!
With a mute in it
Sunrise is another banger by Simply Red!
Simply Red, Simply Beautiful ❤️❤️❤️❤️
You are spot on. Mick Hucknall had a difficult childhood and he wrote this song in his bedroom when he was 17. Amazing.
From what I have read about Mick, he did have a hard life in that his mother left him with his father when he was very young and didn't make contact with him. Later he did make contact with her but the experience was disappointing for him.
.
Yes, she was the one who found him when he was very popular and lied to him that she had cancer to make him come. He did and then found out about one more betrayal... it was very hard on Mick. Lucky he has a good family now and is raising a daughter who looks like him. ❤✌🙏
This song always made me feel so sad. I loved it and when it would come on the radio, I'd always turn the volume up. Now, more than half a lifetime later - it still makes me feel very sad.
I remember when this came out stands the test of time great song
His voice is amazing and has only gotten better❤
Love his voice so unique ❤️
‘It’s Only Love’ is another blinding Simply Red song.
@Norman David Tidiman: I actually preferred the album version of that song better than the single version they released.
You should check him out singing this more recently with a symphony. Sounds just as good!
agreed. he hasn’t lost a step.
Check out their version of I You Don't Know Me By Now.
I saw him sing this live when it first came out in the Hammersmith Odeon in London and his vocals were as perfect as on record. Best I've ever seen and I only got the tickets to please my girlfriend.
I love Micks amazing voice. For Your Babies, and Moneys Too Tight To mention are two more great songs.
Try “Money’s Too tight To Mention” next, for a slightly different vibe by Simply Red! Such a great band!
I absolutely love it when you younger cats get to see and here the music that us gen X folks grew up on... The look and reaction on your faces and responses of joy is absolutely priceless! That baby girl was from an era when REAL MUSIC and timeless classics were made... Glad you liked that, because to this day at 50 years old, I'm still cracked out on this dude and that song... He does concerts in Europe, UK, and Australia... So get your dollars and passport together and go watch him life because his voice still sounds the same to this day...
Spell check is a pain in my previous comment...Even after a proof read, stuff gets changed afterwards...🤦🏾♂️
So much soul in that voice....AMAZING!
Never get tired of hearing this song. Love, love, love it. ❤
Mick Hucknall the singer wrote this song when he was only 16 pretty awesome!! His mother left the family when he was very young and his father was quite harsh hence the lyrics "strangled by the wishes of pater hoping for the arms of mater. Get to me the sooner or later, oh.". A timeless song!
I can’t believe you haven’t done this before
Glad you used the official version AND that you got the lyrics.
The instrument is a trumpet with a “mute”. Like a cone you stick in the “horn” , gives it a VERY distinct sound.
Great number - never gets old.
Some background. It was filmed in and around Whitby, Yorkshire (UK). The ruins you see are Whitby Abbey, a 7th., Century monastery which became an abbey. It was also the inspiration for Bram Stoker's Dracula. The railway is the North York Moors railway - a UK heritage line.
You simply cannot go wrong with Simply Red. Every album, every song. Even the ones I don't like are really good...lol. 👍🏽
1986, my junior year in high school. Classic, blue eyed SOUL. What we during that time was appreciate the musicianship of the artist. It brings back a lot of memories of simpler times. Thank you, Queen Mother, Jayy.
That was a trumpet with a bung/muffler (?) placed in the end to give it that muted high pitch.
I was lucky enough to see Simply Red in concert, and he sounds sooo much better singing live. The consummate professional.
I loved hw you soaked up all that soul he was giving off.
Cool reaction, thanks for sharing 👍👏👏👏
I was living in the UK when this song came out and I loved it. I finally found out who sang it and got the Simply Red album. I still play it and there are a lot of great songs on it!
The album picture book is phenomenal, especially the vinyl, the crackles of the needle just brings the atmospherics to a whole new level, The newer generations are really missing out.
Such a beautiful yet heartbreaking song...his voice is mezmerizing! thx for sharing Jayy :)
he is the song after we pass through all this ....dilema of life and happenings and hopeful we can reach to that ....its so soothing .....
Glad you got to hear this song as he has a wonderful voice! I’m satisfied you listened to this again afterwards!
Everyone asks for ‘stars’ next by simply red but ‘for your babies’ is another great song by them as well
I've always loved his voice.
Hello @all, greetings, from Germany. Still have goosebumps from Simply Red..... Wonderful
17K views and just 4 dislikes pretty much says everything about how popular this song was then, remains now, and will be forever.
Love this song! Amazing voice!!! They put an album out in the early 90s called Stars that is incredible!!!
Such a beautiful and unique voice, love Simply Red 💕
Mick wrote this song as a teenager...iconic voice singing a story song about his growing up years...sad, touching and yet gorgeous
Mick teamed up with B.B. King on Please Send Me Someone To Love. Really worth listening.
Such. A great song jayy!! Still loving all ur reviews and lives!! Much love ❤️. Simply red has many good songs !! “ STARS”. Is a favorite. It’s a more upbeat song but soooo good
After all these years I can still the feel the pain in his voice.........
This is an amazing song!
Fine Young Canibals/Drives Me Crazy
I mean no disrespect but up until about 2 years ago i thought a woman was singing this. What a voice on this man.
Hi Ms. Jayy, This song/video is about Mr. Mick's life growing up.. All Simply Red songs are very good,
as someone below suggested U should review his cover of Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes featuring
Mr. Teddy Pendergrass (R.I.P.) "If You Don't Know Me By Now".. ♠W.G.
Finally refreshing to see someone who doesn't keep stopping the song to hear there own voice. Thank you for being professional
I get a lump in my throat when I hear this song every time.
HE FROM MY HOME TOWN
Love this song!
His version of If you don't know me by now is great too.
'Holding Back the Years' my all time favorite.❤
Angelic voice, Simple Red - Mick Hucknell, such unigue voice. Love this review.
Omg that takes me way back to when I was a little girl. Your hair looks pretty by the way. 🙂
hi jayy you played never never loved for my late wife and now you have reacted to this classic. but I would strongly recommend so beautiful live in Cuba. from john.
LOVE SIMPLY RED !! Great Music !!! 👍💜🎶
Omg. The memories!! Lovin it!!
Even now at around 60 years of age he still sounds the same.
The instrument on the solo was a trumpet but he was "lip syncing" it. The trumpet that you hear has a mute in it which gives it that kind of buzzy sound. The mute is usually made of aluminum and looks like a plug that is put into the bell of the trumpet. But in the video, there is no mute; (the trumpet is not muted to put it another way).
Que voz maravilhosa, que canção... Tudo de bom, Simply Red! Amo...! From Paquetá Island - Rio de Janeiro - RJ! ✨✨✨🙏🙏🙏🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
I like your song choices, you stole my record collection.
This song was huge couldn't turn on the radio without hearing it
Mick Hucknall, the lead singer here, has such an amazing voice. It is almost jazz, blues, and pop rolled into one. You really need to react to For Your Babies. I've not heard anyone else react to it and it's another such an amazing song. Also Something Got Me Started and their cover of If You Don't Know Me By Now are amazing songs, oh and Stars as well. More Simply Red please. They were a huge band here in the UK, but didn't really get that will known over in the States I feel, apart from a couple of hit songs.
I'm not sure if the instrument was a cornet or a trumpet but, it was one of those.
You were right about the meaning of the song, the singer, Mick Hucknell's mother left him and his father when he was just three years old, the song is mainly about this and the time he wasted wishing she would come back.
Jayy your hair is freaking amazing!!!
Soul is UNIVERSAL! Those who have it, recognize and find kinship with each other.
Do the English have the most incredible vocalists in history on a per capita basis? It sure seems like they’ve been bursting at the seams with them my entire life.
Agreed something in tbe river Thames or somethin😒
@@ninawildr4207 Mick would argue that it's the water in the River Irwell rather than the Thames 😋
It’s the damp and constant pi55ing rain, that kinda gives us an edge! 😳🤣🤣
Possibly all of the practice singing for one’s football team? 🤔
@@ninawildr4207 Hes a Northern English man not from London which is down south , we have many other towns and cities in the UK not all English either haha .
This guy has absolute voice control !
Mick Hucknall has such a beautiful, unique voice. Check out Simply Red's cover of "If You Don't Know Me By Now".
Good song
I almost cried watching your reaction I love it when kids of today love the music of our time its crazy but thank you for making our time so important to us!
One of my favorite songs by Simply Red! Love his voice!!! ❤
A favorite of mine...glad you got to hear it.
Stunning! Great reaction!
This is another one of those songs I have a hard time listening to. This soul piercing voice of his
I remember as a sad reminder to me of ??? Well... The One that got away... 1988.
She told me, she had to move on, and I promised her I would be right where she left me, in this little God forsaken town, if she ever decided to come back.
1986, what a year that was, nothing but great memories.
From Aotearoa, New Zealand, I soo Love your energy and reactions thank you Jay...
have not heard this since it came out in 1984 its aged perfectly
Been Lucky In The UK To Have Been Blessed With So Many Lead Vocalists Down The Years Who Are And Were World Class..Mick Hucknall Sounds Exactly The Same Live And That's Praise In Itself..Amazing🇬🇧
