Mick Hucknall (the singer) wrote the song when he was just 17 years old. Amazing! Maggie I'd suggest also watching the original video with a much younger Mick singing. It was how the world was introduced to Simply Red.
You have to listen to him sing this when he was younger. His voice was so much stronger. Always loved this song. Plus listen to him sing "You Make Me Feel Brand New."
Hello from Germany! Mick's voice is incomparable to any other! Especially the people who lived through the eighties, especially in Europe, when they close their eyes everyone knows who that is! Greetings Nephilim
You are really missing out if you've never heard Sade (pronounced Sha-Day). Her vocal style is not flashy or overly technical. But her voice is ultra smooth and emotionally charged, and her songwriting is top notch.
Another great reaction, Maggie. Sadé is a smooth bluesy singer from about that same era. “Smooth Operator” and “Sweetest Taboo” are probably her best known songs. She’d definitely be worth a look-see. 😎
Sade....Oh my lord. If you've never heard this voice of a Goddess then you've not lived. You simply must check out her and her bands work. It's all just simply stunning.
Thank You for a well done video! I was searching for this song, I havent heard it in years, and Your Video came up first. I have enjoyed your videos and comments before, so I did not hesitate to click on it! I was not that familiar with Simply Red, except for hearing his two hit songs here in the US, thanks to you I have a new respect for him and his music. I Love the parts you like and when you rewind. We get to hear the parts all over again, THANK YOU. Love Your channel, love your videos, cant wait to see and hear another!
Wow. Was not expecting this reaction either. All of that setlist I sponsored made it to the channel. Who knew?!?! I loved this song so much in my younger days. So happy Mick's voice has held up through the years. For those who are asking. Maggie has indeed reacted to Sade since this was recorded.
Thank you for your lovely comment. 🤗💖 Hope to see you on our livestream in less than 1 hour as we are doing Anne Murray reactions and many, many more: ruclips.net/user/live41ZNlGfjjcE
I saw Simply Red a couple of years ago. Just hit after hit after hit. And that voice! And as I walked out of the London O2, a woman near me said, "He's put on a bit if weight, hasn't he?" Some people you just can't please.
My favourite song, saw them live last year and flew to Yorkshire as soon as I could to see Whitby and Goathland, where the music video for this song was set! Absolutely amazing❤️
Mick's mother deserted him when he was young and he desperately wanted to meet with her (he did some time later). This song puts into words the feelings he had on the matter
I think the term “Simply Red” comes from when he was asked what football team he supported being from Manchester and nothing to do with his hair colour 😊
Thanks to react to Simply Red . As usual your are so nice and honest with your anàlisis .Mick one of the best singer with the best voice. from 80s , fantàstic , fresh and so clean. Check some more like Jericó, Star , If you don't know me by now , Keep on rocking ❤ Greetings from Barcelona. Excuse my english.
It was 1985, was dealing with a recent divorce. I was driving through Michigan and this song came on the radio. First time hearing it . . . had to pull off the Road and deal with so many memories.
Apparently, the original name of the band was "Red" but at one of their first gigs the emcee asked what the name of the band was and they said "Red", the emcee responded "Red what" and they responded "Simply Red". They go to get on stage and they were announced as "Simply Red". That name became so popular they kept it.
Mick Hucknall's voice is unique and awesome just as Dolly Parton's is. Serious fans there...I'm pretty sure I heard some of them sing the harmony on "I keep holding on..."
I think someone was saying Sade, which is pronounced, Sha Dey. At least that’s how I always heard it pronounced. Simply Red, especially this song was like an old friend to be by yourself and listen and simply reflect! Holding back the years!
Sade is pronounced 'Shahday'. If you haven't heard the song 'Smooth Operator', I will be shocked, shocked I tell you! She had a ton of other hits that you'd probably recognize.
I think Mick Hucknall has one of the best live voices. I've seen Simply Red several times and he's really good live and even after all those years. If you liked his voice and the high notes in this one you definitely should check out some older live vids. :) Really like your reactions! :)
If you think he sounds good in this, you should have heard him 40 years ago . MICK is one of the few singers that has managed to keep their voice, Tom Jones is one of the others that has kept his voice very well .
This is a SUPREME CLASSIC SONG THAT REALLY CARESSES THE SOUL. .... LOVE THIS REACTION ...THANK U LOVE. IM SOO GLAD I RAN INTO UR CHANNEL. YOUR. A LOVELY DOVE. PLEASE REACT TO NICKEL BACK SAVING ME
He is older here and still sounds as great as the original. this is more of the great rock from the golden age of rock that a new generation is being exposed too.
Oh, Maggie! Have you NOT heard the smooth, sultry Sade (actually pronounced Shar-day)? As you would say, "Holy Cheese Muffins!" Sade, a Nigerian British star from the 80's, is COMPULSORY listening! "Sweetest Taboo", "Smooth Operator", or "Jezebel" are all excellent starters - I'll be first in line to sponsor a Sade reaction video!

Please react to Aurora x Pomme Live Rhythm on Modzik, mindblowing i am obsessed with that song♥
Paul Rodgers (Free, Bad Company, The Firm, Queen, etc.) an amazing singer
Mick Hucknall (the singer) wrote the song when he was just 17 years old. Amazing! Maggie I'd suggest also watching the original video with a much younger Mick singing. It was how the world was introduced to Simply Red.
I can't like this comment enough! His voice on the original recording was incredible. She really needs to experience it.
He owns this audience. Nails it. Even after all these years
I'm loving this. He's one singer I never mistake for anyone else even w/o visuals.
just remember he is 60+ in this concert. and this song is usually sang in the second half. he is active professional singer for over 40 years.
I saw Simply Red live back in the 2006. It was absolutely magical, probably the best concert i've ever been to
His voice was/is pure relaxation
You have to listen to him sing this when he was younger. His voice was so much stronger. Always loved this song. Plus listen to him sing "You Make Me Feel Brand New."
Hello from Germany! Mick's voice is incomparable to any other! Especially the people who lived through the eighties, especially in Europe, when they close their eyes everyone knows who that is! Greetings Nephilim
Mick is one of my all-time favorite singers. So many beautiful songs 😊
You are really missing out if you've never heard Sade (pronounced Sha-Day). Her vocal style is not flashy or overly technical. But her voice is ultra smooth and emotionally charged, and her songwriting is top notch.
Pronounced Sha-day'. Love ya
Yes shes awsome. Think she did that song smooth operater?👍🏻
Sounds just as good (if not better) than the album version... He is awesome!!
Good, but certainly not better than the studio (album) version. Live versions rarely are.
Another great reaction, Maggie. Sadé is a smooth bluesy singer from about that same era. “Smooth Operator” and “Sweetest Taboo” are probably her best known songs. She’d definitely be worth a look-see. 😎
Yep, 'Smooth Operator' is a timeless classic. :)
Pronounced "Sha-dey"
Legend vocals are to die for ❤
It’s incredible how this still sounds so much like the original recording. Not perfect, but remarkably close!
Maggie. You mentioned a singer, Sade. What person never heard of the great Sade? She killed it.
Point out also he's old enough to be your grandfather Maggie! He's killin' it.
What range anjelic beutifull soulful heavenly 😊❤❤❤😊
For 30 years, the Stars album has been my go-to when I need inspiration for a writing project. Wrings every ounce of creativity out of me.
Sade....Oh my lord. If you've never heard this voice of a Goddess then you've not lived. You simply must check out her and her bands work. It's all just simply stunning.
Everyone loves a crooner and he is one of the best
What a performance! I actually cried 😢

Saw them live last year, Micks voice hasn't lost anything as hes got older, it was a great night out !!!!!
Wow. Was not expecting this reaction either. All of that setlist I sponsored made it to the channel. Who knew?!?! I loved this song so much in my younger days. So happy Mick's voice has held up through the years. For those who are asking. Maggie has indeed reacted to Sade since this was recorded.
This and "If You Don't Know Me By Now" have been in the top of my personal playlist.
Classic SR song. Just beautiful to hear them still singing it and sounds just the same!! Great job Maggie!
SADE ADU IS THE ICONIC QUEEN OF SMOOTH MUSIC ❤
This was recorded many years after the songs release. He was much older and still held it together. Awesome baby.
Just pure beautiful ❤ lm 67yrs old and it's nice that you young people can listen to our beautiful music of years ago😊
Thank you for your lovely comment. 🤗💖 Hope to see you on our livestream in less than 1 hour as we are doing Anne Murray reactions and many, many more: ruclips.net/user/live41ZNlGfjjcE

One of my top 10 most beautiful songs.
While i was a teenager that band and that song was one of my favorites!
It brings so many memories back to my head…!
Great years…great music!
GenX! ❤️
I've seen Simply Red live twice, and to tell how long ago it was , the first time had Terence Trent Derby an American singer open for them.
I saw Mick at the Montreux Jazz festival in 1992. He has an absolutely incredible voice.
Stunning song - stunning performer!
I believe this live show is his best voice ever.
He's in his 60s and his voice is about 85% of what it was. That's rare.
My favorite Simply Red song is Stars. So simple, so sweet. You might like it. If you listen to Sade, check out her No Other Love
You said that you love when the crowd sings along I can just imagine the crowd at an opera start singing along
Just LOVE the look on your face, big-up.
My mom got me hooked on this band when I was younger and yes his Voice is the band. 🌹
His style & sound was amazing in the 80s.
Hes just one those singers thats kept his voice. Hes so lucky. But they do say move ot or loose it. I simply love Simply Red ❤️
Just noticed you're in a concert at one of the sites where i work this weekend. Welcome to Sweden and have fun!
Loved this reaction! :D cheers!
Thank you!! 😁
From the same concert, try "Fairground"....Stunning feelgood song!
Man what a voice.
You should hear him when his young singing this song in his music video. Great voice. Had a great voice when he was young
As a teen I couldn’t stand Simply Red. I do realise now what a fantastic voice Mick has.
Thanks to react to Simply Red . As usual your are so nice and honest with your anàlisis .Mick one of the best singer with the best voice. from 80s , fantàstic , fresh and so clean.

Greetings from Barcelona.
Excuse my english.
Mick is Simply Red. He brings in the musicians he needs for the recordings and performances. The lineup of the "band" has always been fluid.
I can see the comparison to Sade (pronounced sha-deh, if I am not mistaken). Listen to her Sweetest Taboo and ... a bunch of other songs.
I've been concert going for over 50 years and he is the best live singer I have heard. And that includes Art Garfunkel.
It was 1985, was dealing with a recent divorce. I was driving through Michigan
and this song came on the radio. First time hearing it . . . had to pull off the
Road and deal with so many memories.
classic jazz/blues club singing along lines of Sinatra, Neil Diamond etc.easy listening...
Always soo smoooooooth.
Dude still has a really good voice.
There is a fabulous acoustic version of this where he just has the one guitarist accompanying him.
🎼He's in his Sixties now!!! Voice has not changed one iota!🎶
I remember when this song came out. Loved it.
You really need to listen to Stars at the same concert 😁 you will love it 👍🏻🤩🏴
Thanks @maggiereneemusic for the review. My favorite Simply Red song is "You Make Me Feel Brand New". I hope you give it a listen. 🎶💙

Maggie, as you love distinct great voices, you should listen to and analyze Sade (pronounced like shaadeh). She is fantastic.
The guys in his 60’s. Singing live like that! Crazy!!
You might want to check out R.E.M. 'Everybody Hurts'.
Group covered Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes' classic "If You Don't Know Me By Now".
Yesss he was amazing 😂
should give the first release a listen,,,, gold.
You need to do the video or album studio version. And their cover of If you don't know me by now.
Mick Hucknall's voice is unique and awesome just as Dolly Parton's is. Serious fans there...I'm pretty sure I heard some of them sing the harmony on "I keep holding on..."
You don't know Sade? Smooth Operator? 😲 You have to react to her and that song.....
He is actually Simply Red, he founded the band together with 2 friends and sang this song when those bands you mentioned where in kindergarden. 😉
I think someone was saying Sade, which is pronounced, Sha Dey. At least that’s how I always heard it pronounced. Simply Red, especially this song was like an old friend to be by yourself and listen and simply reflect! Holding back the years!
I’m glad you love blue-eyed soul.
Sade is pronounced 'Shahday'. If you haven't heard the song 'Smooth Operator', I will be shocked, shocked I tell you! She had a ton of other hits that you'd probably recognize.
Now that is a good voice! Good video, good reaction. 🌹
Must listen to Stars
It would be interesting for you to seek out the original studio recording & official video. I think you would enjoy it as a comparison. :)
...A signature voice
If you don’t know me by now … another good simply Red tune to check out
if you don't know me by now❤one of the best numbers ever

Maggie you are the best
Will you please do a review of Mr. Mister 12/14/1985 Ritz? You will really love that performance.
Sade is pronounced Shardai, a Nigerian born female singer who married blues, creole and pop styles together.
Well done Maggie ❤
Doesn't know Simply Red and doesn't know Sade? Oh geez, you have some good stuff coming.
He is older here and still sounds as great as the original. this is more of the great rock from the golden age of rock that a new generation is being exposed too.
Simply Red actually refers to Manchester United football club!!
MAGGIE!!!!!LOVE YOU "GREAT BIG"....PLZZZZ Check Out Patsy Cline....You are Gonna Love Her Truly Unique Voice.. From the "OLD TIMEY" 50"s
The only singer that sounds better live than in recording. Saw 2 concerts back around 2000
Just to add that even his voice is stil beautiful, it is not the same magic as 20 years ago
Saaaah day - not Sade listen to “Sad Old Red” but from the 80s. Voice was/is legend.
