actually Simply Red wasn't the original. It was originally recorded in 1982 when Mick Hucknall was lead singer in the Frantic Elevators, they had a much more punk and raw sound

As a young man growing up in So. Cal in the 80's we were lucky to have one of the few "alternative rock" stations in the country. This was at a point of a new "British Invasion" with bands like Simply Red, Eurythmics, Yazoo, Madness, The Untouchables and English Beat tearing up the airwaves. Damn I was so lucky.
